      Definitely,nobody would have thought that this was possible.I've been a Nascar fan for 50 years and Never saw a move like this.This move could only happen on a half mile track like Martinsville for one or two laps without blowing a tire or both tires.Still wonder if it would work without the soft walls?Great move just the same.👍👍👍

      I disagree. The 3:00 one (once you know where to spot him) lets you clearly see his speed relative to everyone else, and visually track all 5 cars he passes.

      @@anonymousinc6330 he was going 130 on the wall of a 60mph track, the tires weren't damaged, didn't hook the fender into the wheel or the wall. Those cars aren't good for all season and that one is ready for more. 40 little bumps but the frame is probably fine.

    for me, what I took away the most from this transcending moment, not only watching something done within the rules of the racecar world, or sporting domain - it is a very inspirational to see someone risk making decisions vs. not trying at all. If Ross performed this move and failed, and lost to the 11 car by a nose - I would still be blown away by the move and tipping my hat for the attempt, the fact he pulled it off is absolutely amazing. It is something that resonates for everyone - in our daily lives, jobs,family, and whatever - we all should be inspired by this.

      @@nicolep7241 He basically just said fuck it and drove the car into the wall, hit the highest gear he had, and let the car drive itself around the track. Because Martinsville is such a short, paper clip shaped track, drivers usually have to go very slow around the turns, and because of that, Chastain’s car was just that much faster riding the wall, and he was able to go around five of them. It badly damaged the car, so it’s something that would only be attempted in this specific last lap scenario, and luckily for him it paid off.

    For everybody out there who don't understand what happened (I had to check the news to understand), Ross Chastain pinned his car to the wall and was driving 70mph faster than everybody else in the last curve. He was 10th place before the curve and ended up 5th place crossing the line.

      Carl Edwards tried it too about 10 years back, but at a Speedway (Kansas or Fontana, somewhere like that) and the speed loss hitting the wall didn't work there. Edwards said it worked in games, but not real life, looks like he should have tried it at a short-track!

      @@tangentfox4677 it doesn't ruin the car. It ruins part of the cheap fiberglass shell that they buy in bulk, though. Literally the cheapest, most easily replaced part of the car, that gets replaced every race anyway because there's always gonna be car to car contact during a race that breaks the shell. That's why they're so cheap and mass produced.
      Edit: looking at the car's POV cam, it appears they might also have to change a tie rod end. Again, they would do this between races anyway.

    What's crazy about this is that wall riding is not a new idea, people have tried and failed to make it work so it was dismissed, but somehow Chastain pulled off "video game physics" in real life. Incredible.

I loathe Chevrolets but Ross is one of the best drivers in the series - Hamlin is one of the punks and the dumbest one out there.

    What's so amazing is that we're decades into the sport where people have been trying everything to get any advantage, but nobody has ever seen anything remotely like that move. It's amazingly novel and unique but at the same time beautifully simple, the engine had more to give than the wall could take.

      @@itzanopinion much respect for Ross, but at the same time, plenty of respect for Chase (guessing it was him since it would be pretty crass for anyone on his team to say it before him) as well for being able to acknowledge it without being salty about losing positions to it. I'm no fan of NASCAR, but I'm pretty sure his move had a hefty price tag for everyone behind him, so it shows some real sportsmanship and love of the game to react that way.

      I don't honestly think they will... until or unless someone else tries to do it, and fails. The amount of balls it takes to do that is insane, and it also could never work besides on the last lap, because you just will absolutely destroy your car. I don't see this becoming a thing really.

      That's not giving up on them... it's called being emotionally invested. Everyone there looked like they had been punched in the gut when he was 10th going into that final turn. It's like if your team is in the superbowl and the opponents go up a TD with 20 seconds left on the clock. As a viewer you are going to throw your hands on your head and look sad because you really care about your team and that's a physical reaction. You can still hold on hope that the hail mary will work to save the game but you probbably aren't going to be jumping up and down cheering.

    My grandfather used to be a racecar driver back in the 70s and he would've loved to see this move but unfortunately he died 2 months ago so it's extremely sadding to me that he didn't gett the chance to experience this moment in history with me
