I lost my boyfriend to a car accident, two years ago now. I've often envisioned a scenario similar to this, and now I am a mess of tears and snot. I was really expecting Soren to say "Who's Mara?" and the knowledge of a daughter who never existed to further his already terrible mental state.
Not only the knowledge of his counterparts parted daughter, but the knowledge he will never truly know the purpose *his* Nia found in her work.

Nia described the worlds branching like coral- that is, they were all the same until they were different, which for this Soren and that nia was where the bomb fell, meaning his nia had the same reasons and they had the same daughter die at the same time. They are only different because we are not the product of our biology, but the product of our experiences, and that was the first experience they differed

I just found out about your channel by a mere coincidence, if there are any at all, and I'm thankful for this so called coincidence.
The part where Soren was constantly writing her, and getting more heartbroken, hurt, saddened, and angered really touched me. With all honesty, it almost brought me tears. It was very powerful.
It's even sadder because I can tell what made them fall for each other, and I can tell that he knows she isn't myopic or avoiding civility. The Nia he's writing to... is living embodiment of hyperopic pragmatism avoiding a sentimentalist's unbending streak. Soren's just forever in denial. And sadder is, I agree with Nia and sympathise with Soren. But what else can you do? Nothing but cut off and move on.

The only thing connecting the world lines is Nia and her superposition messaging system, and if the reason driving widowed Nia was the daughter she lost to cancer... what reason was behind the happily family version's invention? She was always going to discover this method of communication for better or for worse. Both Soren-less Nia and the to-be cremated Nia were simply stuck on finding some semblance of a daughter.
It's sad really. She wanted to find her daughter and realised even before talking to that spitting image of pragmatism that she was never going to find her... she was going to find a version of her so distant and removed that the child knew humouring Nia would be torturous and cruel. And so she realised humouring Sorens out there who had lost their own Nia would be torturous and cruel for her to do. She said it felt weird to receive his message. Even after being contacted by 500 others, she said it was weird. She cares, and that's why she cut it off.

Don't worry. It's an irrational fear. Though the smell may fade from sheets and clothes and everything else fabric, your nose and your mind remembers the smell because it is there in your synapses forever. On a day in an alternate universe, the wind may pick up the scent and carry it into your nose and you will remember everything. Nothing significant dies in your memories. It just isn't around for you to remember it anymore.

Years ago when exurb1a was taking off online, these videos used to make me feel something. It's been so long now that I couldn't even say when the last impactful video was. I keep watching these because they're funny and a bit unique, but I fear I've lost the ability to appreciate what used to make them special to me. The videos haven't changed, I have.

One thing I love about your videos is how before watching a video I can just look at the thumbnail and title in confusion and after watching it and going through the same but unique emotional roller coaster I go through every video I look back at it and it has a whole new meaning this video is straight down my alley I love this kind of idea of multiverses and stuff And you did that in the most poetic way I've seen yet

It baffles me. How do you come up with these ideas and write them so elegantly into stories? I'm always in awe.
He talked about this in one of his videos, but tl;dr is behind every video there's hundreds of hours and scripts, ideas that didn't work and refinement of those that "sort of" did.
It’s actually like surrendering to a void and a stream of ideas come to him and he’s just jots it down and then he refines it later to his liking. This happens a lot with great writers, it’s very easy but very hard and only they will understand that is true

@@Exurb1a We are still free to imagine that scenario, but that Nia would be quite different from the pragmatic one. Too different. I reckon you didn't think of it because you know the characters more deeply. The current ending suddenly gives a new perspective that puts a thousand leagues between a happy reality and the character we'd been following and that's neat too; it's something we aren't likely to envision so it's a great choice for the ending

To me this wasnt terrifying or creepy.It was just sad. He was grieving for his wife while his world was destroying itself. The only comfort the only light left was nia. So when he got what he thought was a do over. He jumped before he looked. I think he stayed at that house and died at that house. Waiting for a letter that would never come. From someone who wasn't his wife. This broke my heart.
Yeah, made me cry. I thought, let's listen and think of philosophy as I wake, now I just want to go back to sleep and forget about Soren and Nia and their daughter.
@@aaronedvalson104 I dont know whether nia was in a better or worse place than Soren. Soren waa in a doomed world and only had one comfort left, a false comfort but he didnt understand that. Nia Has had over 300 version of her dead husband try to contact her to connect with her. And it never works because she KNOWS, she understands that the person on the other side isnt her husband. Just a person who is so much like him she cant help but hurt. That's one of the reasons I think this is so sad.
I like the way that you worded "he jumped before he looked".
The famous danish philosopher "Søren" Kierkegaard said that we have three ways to exist.
The first two describes the lifestyles:
"the aesthetic way". This way is tragic because the person does not live in line with the human situation / lives like an animal and only goes after desire.
and "the ethic way" is tragic, because one is unable to make subjective, existential choices, and follow authority.
But the last one, "the religious way", is described as a leap into a great depth, without knowing whether one can swim or not. But that you just have to have confidence that you can swim. It is, in fact, impossible to live a human life without being guilty in the eyes of others.
This story really explains all the bad sides that correlates to these ways to live, which can't be random. How it is not possible to live off the desire of someone you have lost, how he becomes completely dependant on this Nia, who Soren thinks is someone he knows and can trust, as well as how he had to leap into this last light that he clings to, rendering him blind for what is real.
Long answer, but i just really liked this way of thinking

It reminds me of this book I discovered yesterday called "Moving Through Parallel Worlds to Achieve Your Dreams". It combines the Many Worlds theory with some spirituality. It's like a philosophical self-help book.
