@Natdl It's weird to see how many Americans are painfully aware of the situation yet nothing much changes. But then again, that goes for other countries as well. They just don't have these expressions like : land of the free...lol.

the American dream used to be real, all my grandparents were immigrants born in the 20s with no money, yet both sides made exceptional lives for their families. idk what happened, maybe its cause the last decent republican was Eisenhower, and the democrats are simply weak, because in reality they're all on the same team, the "big club".

@@FupaLipa Carlin explains what happened in the video, really. What happened is the big business and corporate interests took over. When I was a kid, my dad earned a lower middle class wage as a Union assembly line worker and he could afford a nice house with a big yard and support a wife and 3 kids that he sent to private school.
I make a lower middle class income now at the age my father was and yet I can barely afford a condominium and I’m single with no kids.

Labeling him as just a grumpy old man does an extreme disservice to this man who's Been doing comedy for 40 plus years. He's been doing counterculture comedy since the 70's. American and political humor didn't just come when he got older. His 7 words you can't say routine was taken to the supreme Court in 1977,the first host of Saturday night live, guest host for johnny Carson on numerous occasions,2017 rolling stone magazine ranked him #2 out of 50 of the greatest comedians ever! Office Bloke Mike commented about how Carlin wouldn't miss a beat in his routines. A few years before this performance he gave an interview in which he compared stand-up comedy to ancient Greek rhetoric. He also compared it to being a musician; that the vocal changes in pitch and tempo comprised the melody of the performance, and the melody could be changed akin to how a jazz musician riffs around the melody.

Carlin was doing TED talks disguised as comedy at this point^^ He's old and grumpy. This bit is from his last special before he died. Most people by that time had grown up with him. He was doing Comedy for like 50 years and has gone through several phases. There was the suit and tie carlin in the early days, there was counter culture carlin in the seventies and so on.. several generations have grown up with him knew where he was coming from with his raving and ranting and knew what they expected from the show.
70s-90s- Carlin walked so Bill Burr, Louis CK & Dave Chappelle could run. Anyways, I think there's more Carlin bits that are worth checking out and guy on the left will find some he'll like more too.

Carlin has switched style of his comedy a few times during his long career. His earliest work consisted of constructed jokes and impersonations, after he got famous he had a few renowned skits that he did. When he got to middle age and beyond, he started doing major topics and derive multiple jokes in each and when he got old, he took the witty old man direction and focused on rants about society with impeccable logic.

For the red head guy, if you paid money to go to see George Carlin in 2005, you more than got your money's worth here. The man is a genius and at this point in his career he was really pushing the line. If you would've wanted to go see a comedian joke about dating, their families, and pop culture you'd go somewhere else. The man had been doing comedy for about 60 years at this point. He can bring whatever he wants to the table. Again, what he's saying here is also well ahead of it's time.

George Carlin actually was “super funny” at times. He was the perfect mix of philosopher and goofy. This special was at the time that he was basically forced to continue to work, at the end of his rope and seriously fed up, so he didn’t hold back. I had a hard time watching it at the time, when I was younger, but now I get it. There are many, many hilarious GC bits that you have yet to watch until you truly appreciate his genius.

The point of Carlin is to make serious issues funny and raising awareness to it. He could be like any other comedian and make generic made up jokes about whatever. This is exactly why he stands out and is regarded widely as the best comedian. Also his earlier stuff was more standard comedy. When he got older he got more cranky and his boys come off as rants but ran are just nonsense. He was making point after point rapid fire.

The only thing that's really changed is that we no longer have shopping malls in the US - they all closed up as more & more people bought stuff online. So now everyone stays home, pushes a few buttons on the computer, orders crap from Amazon & other sites, & eat & grow even fatter, because they're (we're) not getting the exercise we used to get while at the mall.

Carlin's stand up is not actually meant to be particularly funny... it's a modern day philosophical eye opening. There were only about 3-4 comments made by all three of you about Carlin's actual points that he brought up... everything else was just taking the piss out of the stereotypical "ranting old man", but there's making jokes and then going back and actually taking his points seriously and listening to him and Dave you really seemed to have failed with that (maybe because you thought Carlin is meant to be the most funniest stand up comedian ever or something?). Carlin's a philosopher, remember that for future reactions.

He was putting across serious points from the very beginning of the video to the very end of the video all of which are true. Rewatch the video by yourself when you have time once of twice more and you will start to fully understand all of his points and your eyes will be opened (at least a bit more than they were prior to watching the video).

Carlin is one of the all time greats. This was three years before he passed. It is a serious bit but he was always a counter culture comic and had some health issues already going on, pretty sure he knew this was his last go at it . Also he was and still is correct.

Esquire magazine in 2001, he said, "Because of my abuse of drugs, I neglected my business affairs and had large arrears with the IRS, and that took me eighteen to twenty years to dig out of. I did it honorably, and I don't begrudge them. I don't hate paying taxes, and I'm not angry at anyone, because I was complicit in it. But I'll tell you what it did for me: it made me a way better comedian. Because I had to stay out on the road and I couldn't pursue that movie career, which would have gone nowhere, and I became a really good comic and a really good writer

It's not a rant though... It's philosophy.... George Carlin was known for his modern day philosophy.... if you guys react to Carlin in the future please bear this in mind and maybe give your opinions on the subject matters HE brings to light? Instead of you know, disregarding all of that because it's not funny. It's not meant to be particularly funny, it's meant to open your blind eyes to some truths about the subjects Carlin talks about. Simple as that.

Some people find checkers to be fun... Others like a bit more, and prefer chess.
Carlin's fanbase grew up (and older) with him, putting his demographic at the age and intellect where nut-shots, sitcom humor, and swear words weren't as stimulating or funny anymore.
I agree Dave, that if you want to spend the night rolling on the floor laughing, George isn't your guy, but at this point of his career, NO ONE bought a ticket going: "Who is this guy?... I hope he's funny"... We all knew what he had to offer, and looked forward to it..😉
