As a p.a. technician I've seen many concerts, and it's very hard to see one where something important is really happening, where history is being made, I'm pretty sure that this was one of those and I wish I was there to see it! TMV for life!
I saw TMV a few days prior at the Auckland, NZ leg of big day out.. Delivered the same "history made" high-powered performance... An absolutely jaw dropping performance.... I miss big day out and the high calibre of bands that performed at that festival back in the day.. good memories, good times
I agree as all of us I’m a huge fan. I used to love playing this video on repeat. Love this band and this performance. I agree that Jon Theodore made this live performance. His bombastic sounds were incredible and part of why this band was so good. Of course, the other iterations were good to, but all of it. Rip ikey. Love you all. Thanks ❤
Incredible amounts of practise. They are all absolute masters of their instruments. Just because they aren't classically trained, they are still absolutely insane. Fucking love when Omar plays solos out of key.
Absolutely. Prog musicians throughout the ages have been showing that classical training means fuck all. You just need a passion for music, and a desire to push the boundaries of what you can do. I'm biased because they are a band that I've been listening to for many years, but Omar's improvisation does remind me of Steve Howe's tbh. Like at 5:45, it really reminds me of how Steve Howe approached his solos, especially if you listen to stuff like Close to the Edge or anything else shreddy by him.
To think this was 10 years ago. No one will ever relpace TMV, but man, there isn't even a band out there today that can at least carry the torch. WTF happened to music?
MozVolta Money. Thats all. It really is that simple. Money ruined music as it has ruined and will continue to ruin everything worth a damn on this planet
I think Dance Gavin Dance is doing ok for the new times. Swans style of composing guitar riffs reminds me of Omar Rodriguez a little. Still nothing like TMV they were a historic band.
Something that no one’s really noted, the way their drummer perfectly improvises to fit those guitar solos is absolutely insane. Seriously talented man on that kit.
I was just think this while listening the song, Greeta knows how to sound in studio like Zeppelin, but the Mars Volta Jam like Zeppelin used to do which is the real essence of Zeppelin the live jams
ESTA ES LA GENTE QUE ROMPIO TODOS LOS MOLDES DEL ROCK Y LO TRANFORMO EN EL ESPIRITU DE LIBERTAD VERDADERO , COMO FUE SU ESENCIA HASTA QUE LAS MULTINACIONALES Y LO DOMESTICARON Y LO TRANFORMO EN LO QUE ES HOY OBEDIENTE AL SISTEMA
I stopped listening to them in high school cuz they were too good to be true. They woulda ruined all other music for me, but now there is no good music to ruin so I'm glad I can enjoy this like the 1st time again 🎶🎸
They are both amazing drummers.. I seen them live with Thomas Pridgen.. He is amazing with the songs of Bedlam. I think it would be great if Jon played there older songs. And Thomas played their newer songs.. We can only dream? Listen to One Day As a Lion to see what Jon is getting up to these days.
I wonder if cedrics suffered vocal damage since this. His highs are soo good, no effects. yet any later videos i watch of him performing he needs effects to sound good otherwise its bad.
dude when your stoned that guitar solo makes you cry and that dancing all makes since. thats whats good about them they say fuck you to anything normal and and just play off emotion...bet it was 10 times better to actually be there
becuase him, along with the rest of this band are some of the most unrecognized, greatest musicians to ever touch the face of this earth. people dont appreciate this kind of phenomenon enough.. its so sad..
I love these guys, but know that there are definitely people in that crowd that probably wondered if Cedric needed immediate medical attention after that performance.
Just got back from big day out. Mars Volta ruled, although I'll say it took a while for the sound to be right (for audience and Cedric, etc). Fantastic set. Anyone got any vids of 2010 BDO?
Yeah, that always caught me off guard too. Then I saw Omar's face at 03:44, and thought "Oh, he's probably just fucking baked out of his mind". Good shit.
The drummer you see playing is Jon Theodore, the original drummer who played on Deloused in the Comatorium// Francis the Mute; Thomas Pridgen is the new drummer.
@PsyShpongle My thoughts exactly. ."oh you like The Mars Volta, maybe you'd like this band called Mu.." "No!, Just fuck off!" "Leave me the FUCK alone" :D
20 years ago. TWENTY YEARS!

+MistahLightningBolt Dude this had me rolling!!! LOL "I threw it on the ground!" Andy Samberg reference, haha.
+MistahLightningBolt YOU are a genius! hahahahaha
Haha this performance is the best and most fucked electric I've seen for years.. I wonder if the cedric is on LSD?
You weirdo! Totally correct, though.
😝 after being a ATDI & Mars fan, that is 💯% spot on about Cedric!
Jon Theodore is a magician.
As a p.a. technician I've seen many concerts, and it's very hard to see one where something important is really happening, where history is being made, I'm pretty sure that this was one of those and I wish I was there to see it! TMV for life!
My Brother showed me this years ago... I fell in love with The Mars Volta and At the Drive-In
probably the truthest truth ever :)
I was there. I was 19. It changed my life.
All bands have their peak period. When TMV was peaking though, they were Peaking through to another level. Truly special this
I saw TMV a few days prior at the Auckland, NZ leg of big day out.. Delivered the same "history made" high-powered performance... An absolutely jaw dropping performance.... I miss big day out and the high calibre of bands that performed at that festival back in the day.. good memories, good times
Still my favorite youtube video of all time.
Reiter ASMR same been watching it here and there for the past 5 years
2020 here..
2023❤
At 2:40 when Omar swung his axe around and the whole band hit that drop note with Cedric hitting that note was amazing .. TMV

I'd call it dissonant rather than out of key.
This is potentially the best performance they ever put on of roulette dares
the spirit of the 70`s - the heart of the 80`s - that`s the MARS VOLTA
This performance lives rent free for the rest of my life. I don’t believe there will ever be more pure energy on stage ever again.
To think this was 10 years ago. No one will ever relpace TMV, but man, there isn't even a band out there today that can at least carry the torch. WTF happened to music?
I use to say this and then Volta came about it'll happen at some point you just have to search for a bit

My life won't be complete until I see them live.
I'm absolutely set on that fact.
Did you ever get to see them?
they're backkkkkkkk
13 years later, you get your chance
greta van fleet needs to take notes on how to channel influences - not copy. these guys were the REAL new zeppelin.
i agree completely
This guys are better of led zeppelin no doubt
I was just think this while listening the song, Greeta knows how to sound in studio like Zeppelin, but the Mars Volta Jam like Zeppelin used to do which is the real essence of Zeppelin the live jams

1:57 and 9:41 are some of the greatest live moments in music history.
I love the Mexican flag in the amp.
On the amp.
Viva Mexico cabron!!! 🇲🇽 this video is timeless!!
2020, 16 years later. Still don't understand how his guitar came back to play at 2min40.
Best performance ever...
Astounding, pure energy. Cedric's vocals are just beyond celestial. Would have given my left kidney to be here.

Looks like Cedric may have had a red bull before the gig.
A little more than a red bull…
14 years ago........

Meth
3:14 when I see a big arse spider bout to bite me.
Gotta love Cedric's mic tossing skills lol
my slow computer makes everything sound like i hooked up a tremolo pedal to the computer and its actually really fucking cool
For years I have been coming back to this video mainly to hear 2:41 to 2:48 over and over again and it never gets old.
i cant get over this performance. its incredible.
I stopped listening to them in high school cuz they were too good to be true. They woulda ruined all other music for me, but now there is no good music to ruin so I'm glad I can enjoy this like the 1st time again 🎶🎸
De los Músicos mas completos. , Arte

2:38 PAY ATTENTION TO OMAR AND WHAT HE DOES WITH HIS GUITAR.
how does he even do that? fuck
