he is one of my favourite musicians. Not just because he is a great guy and played in TMV but also for Pedals and Effects, his work with Mr Big and Big Sir. All great.
Flea recorded the bass to everything except televators. But Ava wrote all the parts and she commented in an interview that she was stoked that he didn’t change the parts that she wrote.

the early Volta gigs are my favourite things ever man.... Jon and Juan are soooo tight in this...I love when Omar has the big hair and is really getting into it. Ikey is coming out with some mad sounds in this one too... Cedric cool as always.
i hate how you can't really here Ikey's keys in ANY vids... when I saw them live during the Bedlam tour he brought the house down on a few of his solos. There was a particularly huge climax when he took a solo on "Goliath" before the fast part... it was SOOOO good and I feel like he never gets credit in the mix (unless you're actually there live)
Their best lineup. Everyone is just a beast. Jon is great but can we get more Ikey, Juan love? bc all are just killing it. Juans such a great underated bassist and Ikey is just so free and talented too. This fucking lineup🔥🔥🔥.🙌🙌🙌
yoyoyoson and its funny because he hated being in this band. Of course their later drummers are good but none of them quite had the same finesse and nuance as Jon
@@TheMeatballMen Didn't he hate the relentless touring and a few other aspects of being in TMV? Doubt he hated the music (not that your comment says this), given the amount of work he put in creating some of these grooves, specially on Frances the Mute that was the first album he composed fully with them and I read interviews saying he really enjoyed the dynamics of playing without hearing the rest. TMV seems like a important band in his career but I doubt much good stuff would come from such strained relationships, Omar and Cedric seem really hard to work with; and they regretted losing him as well
the cool thing about mars volta is that if you go back a couple of months before, they are playing that same exact song differently live. you get a different experience everytime you see them
Man, people always got some random crap to hate on. These guys were and are great. Playing music for the music of it. That's what it's all about. You can see and hear the passion. R.I.P Volta. You were great in all your eras, and it was a wild ride. And in all your future endeavors, Bosnian Rainbows and whatever else, keep that passion. The right people will see it. Feel it.
+SUCKRPUNCHED ya to a degree. you should check out his previous band Golden. great stuff, very fusion/African in nature. long solos etc... there's also a great version of Coltrane's Niamia by them floating around on yt under the band name vato negro
well, if u listen to them live purely from the perspective of how close they sound to the studio records then it's a semi-fail, but when u look at the amount of the energy they put out and how much they enjoy being there at that exact moment then it's a totally different story, u gotta feel it in a way. no band in the world can do what they do live. if u only focus on somewhat bad Cedric's vocals and Omar not hitting the right notes every now and then, ur missing out on something very special.
Thomas was okay I just hate that he always overplayed. Jon could lay the ultimate groove showing perfect in the pocket timing and swing. What more could you as for?
That moment when Omar and Ikey can't help but lust over their instruments. RIP Ikey. (Also, one of the best Volta live vids where Cedrick didn't inhale helium before singing, or throw boiling hot water at random people for that matter.)
i love how they only need the one hihat hit to know when to all come in for that first chorus, they seem to do it like that in a bunch of videos of this song ive seen

Actually it means Ectopic Shape-Shifting Peneance-Propulsion, it is explained in the Deloused in The Comatorium novel/book. But of course what you are saying is totally valid. Im just stating what they wrote..
They don't want to sound like their albums live. They want to deliver an experience. They are a jam band as well. They would be bored as hell just playing their albums straight through.
If there is a reunion (Cedric has hinted on the twitters there may be one), hoping it's Theodore back there...with all due respect to Parks, Elitch and Pridgen

True story
Whenever I see Omar do his thing my knees and ankles cry in pain
You just need to do the amount of drugs they are, then you're apparently invincible
Afros, Tight Pants, Drugs, Dancing, John Theodore, Ikey, Jeremy

Probably The Mars Volta's best performance and crowd ever

Bug your local promoters! Cedric has been urging fans to help promoters realize there is a demand for them to come to towns that aren't scheduled.
Theodore is amazing. So much funk and groove and energy without overdoing it like Pridgen or underdoing it like Deantoni.
Jon Theodore is FUCKING KILLING IT!!!!!
The whole band actually. This video is perfect.

JON THEODORE
Jon Theodore brings that shit to an 11. Not even sure what it is about him but its amazing

My name is Jon Theodore, I'm the best drummer in the history of The Mars Volta.
When Ikey hits that high note at 11:55 that is peak trip lol
Japan for me is where the Volta shine particularly well. This and the Sonic Mania performance from 2005 represent the band at their peak.
