What about going for the sheep port in this game and building down to the 8 3 sheep to connect? IT prevents him from connecting, it wins road guaranteed, and you have lots of sheep to trade.

there's more production in the middle and dominating the 11 ore was definitely the priority. 3:1 is good enough of a port to flexibily manage all that middle board production
