I appreciate this video!! You're the only person to give detail on the sanding block grit!! And you're the first to specify the time it takes. I began painting my couch today & felt bad to not be done be evening. Thank you! 3 days is very doable. Cute kiddo, btw.
Thank you so much for your positive feedback! 🥰
ABSOLUTELY!! @@ThediyGrind
Looks awesome. I'm happy to see floral vintage upholstery getting painted this way bc I have a huge floral vintage chair that's like super comfy but of course it's outdated. I wanna paint it charcoal but wasn't sure how the texture would end up. Your couches look nice n smooth. I'll make sure to sand between layers
Love when kids are only too happy be patient and helpful. She is adorabe🥰 Thanks for the tips!
thanks so much!! 😊
Love your no nonsense approach...my kinda deal. Looks great, I am attempting my first upholstery painting today, but I'm going a bit lighter than existing fabric...so ya we shall see. Thankfully there are real people like you and no glam drama tutorials.
Thank you so much!! Please share pictures I’d love to see it!
Your daughter is adorable. For her age she is so helpful.
Wow!!! They both look gorgeous! I was just looking into having a sofa and loveseat reupholstered, but I had no idea it would be so costly! I am SO painting mine instead!! LOL! Thanks for the video!!!
No problem! Thanks for watching! And let me know how it goes! 😊
The diy Grind I will! 😊
Same
Wow! You have the eye and the creativity and the talent!!! Best one I've seen.
Nice and a big transformation especially with the large couch. How has it held up now that a year has passed? Any cracking?
I'm curious about this too! An update would be great!
Sorry but I do not have an update. I gave the couch to someone in need and I just learned through social media that person has passed away! 😔
@@ThediyGrind awwwww!
so pretty. love it. I could not decide what color but now I know grey is it!!!!!!!!
I LOVE grey! Go for it! 💪🏽😊
LOOKS AWESOME!! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR INFORMATION. I’M STARTING A PROJECT SOON. I’M GOING TO PAINT A RECLINER & I WANT ALL THE TIPS & HELPFUL INFORMATION I CAN GET. 👍👍👍
Amazing! I especially love the 3 seater - what a transformation!
Thank you so much! 😊
It looks so good.
Thank you! 😊
The hairbrush in the couch!! The story of having girls. This video was so great! Thank you!
emilythequeen1 I know right! 😩😂 thank you! 😊
What a cute little helper!!!
Isn’t she?? Thanks so much! 😊
That big couch is amazing! What a steal!
Thanks so much Karine! 😊
I like that you're down to earth and very budget friendly. We can save so many people oodles of money by teaching them to upcycle. Im a huge supporter of it.... I painted a old sectional hide abed once. With extre interior paint and some over priced liquid from Micheals which is made for paints to go on fabric. I was disappointed. It was a good learning lesson anyways. But I have a microfiber couch to tackle as I really don't enjoy the shade of brown. My life needs more blue in it 😜.... I am however wayyy to chicken to post videos... though maybe I'll muster the confidence. Good job and good finds. 🙏
Tabitha Ostaffy I am also wanting to paint my microfiber sectional couch lol 😬
Tabitha Ostaffy thanks so much! You should definitely post a video so I can see how it turns out! And I love saving money and turning things that are considered trash into treasures! I agree! 😊
love the video...going to paint my bed. Little mama is so cute.THanks for sharing
Thanks for watching! 😊 let me know how it goes with your bed!
Haha! I was listening to your video while cleaning up my kitchen and I had to pause my work and SUBSCRIBE when you told how you didn’t paint the back. I’m like, this channel is for me!! 😂😍🙏 Also, in all these upholstery painting vids, I have not heard of the fabric softener before. Definitely going to try that! And, yes! Your daughter is so cute and precious. ❤️
you’re awesome! Thank you! 😂😊 I’m definitely lazy sometimes 🤷🏽♀️😂
Your little princess is so helpful and sooooo beautiful 🥰
😊 thank you
You’re so funny lmao i can’t believe you just did this whole thing with a duster 🤣🤣 meanwhile all the other tutorials have like 8394 extra steps lol 🙄🙄
coolchicks57 I didn’t use a duster the whole time lol but it was effective 🤷🏽♀️😂
Thanks! 😊
I’m painting a leather lazy-boy now & want to paint an Ethen Allen club chair & ottoman. Thanks for the tips!
Ooh nice! What color? And no problem! Thanks for watching! 😊
Absolutely gorgeous...
Thank you so much! 😊
Thank you for doing this. I have an old wicker couch with removable cushions. I painted it with fabric spray paint and it came out hard. I will try spraying it with water and fabric softener and repainting with the chalk paint. Hope it comes out soft.
Diana Baskin let me know if it works! I’d be interested in seeing how it works on wicker! Thanks for your positive feedback! 😊
Wow wow wow. You did an amazing job on both couches and the pillows are great.
Thanks so much! 😊
I’m a little late but I’m so glad I found this , fabric is very expensive I love my couch but the fabric is all ugly now even tho it’s clean I’m definitely doing this thank you
No problem! Let me know how it turns out and thank you for watching! 😊
Wow! Very nice!
Thank you very much!
oh my I love it, good job lady, looks like leather sofas. You saved thousand of money
Thanks so much hun!!
You did a great job. Amazing!!!
I hadn’t even seen the whole vid, had to give it a like for your daughter. She’s such a sweetheart!
😂😂 thank you she is!! 😊
Hello😊 your sofa turned out absolutely gorgeous!
I wonder if you can help me, I also painted a sofa, with the same technique, it looks really nice but if you sit on it it's super dusty and you have paint on your body. I don't want to sand the last coat because the sanding removes the brightness of the color, and I don't want to wax it because I like the way the fabric feels right now.
Do you have any ideas or tricks on how I can make that sofa usable after painting it?
Your daughter is adorable! Thank you for the tutorial. I just did an old chair with with horrible fabric, worked great! Look forward to more videos!
Rachael Sherrer thank you so much! 😊
You painted a chair this way? How did it turn out? Crusty? Does the paint come off on your clothes? I want to paint my ugly couch but I'm scared
Wow !!!! That was amazing ... I’m so subscribing to your channel . Yay!! I’m going to try and paint a little couch I have in my DEN
Yeah! Thanks so much! Let me know how it turns out! 😊
Thanks for posting this! I am going to paint my cushions on my boat (interior) and came across your video,,, Thanks again!
Sounds fun! I’d love to see how it turns out! 😊
Wow... They look nice! Now that you've had them for a while, how are they holding up? Does the paint come off onto your clothes? And finally what happens if you get them wet, does the paint come off?
Tiger Lilly hi! Thank you! 😊I actually gave them away some months back. But, the paint did not come off on clothes and you can wipe water spills right off! That’s why it’s important to seal the paint too.
Did you sand it again after the second coat? What did you “seal” it with?
@@rex-atom If using chalk paint or fabric paint there is no sanding. You use a wax or polyurethane to seal it but if using a light color paint like white it's best to use a wax because it won't turned to furniture yellow..
@@michellegomez5429 water based clear coar does not turn yellow
@@colourful64able that's not necessarily the case, i painted my kitchen cabinets in white water paint and used a water base polyacrilyc and not even a year after they were all yellow.
Am do you think this would work if you tried to change the colour off carpet and it turn out beautiful and how’s it keeping up
Thanks for sharing! What did you use to seal the couches and your assistant is adorable!
Thank you!! And I used clear paint sealer that I put in the description box I think but I wish I would have used wax instead.
U did amazing looks a beautiful high end leather set ❤❤❤
omgosh thanks so much!!😊
Wondering if you used a wax on top of the chalk paint after it dried and if you did, what kind. Looks amazing! Very few tutorials showing this kind of thing that are actually entertaining, yours was GREAT!
I didn’t use a wax, I used a sealer. But if I were to do it again, I’d use a wax and after the chalk paint dried, yes. Thank you! 😊
Hi hun great video! Which sealant did u use please? I want to paint my chair using frenchic paint thank u
I’d appreciate knowing also! I’ve been dying to
do this ❤
She's adorable! Those eyes
Thank you!! 😊
😍😍😍 you did an amazing job!! I want a new sofa but heck this is way more cost effective. New subbie
I am SO SORRY I am just seeing this, I don't get notifications for some reason when I receive comments. But thank you! it was a challenge but definitely fun and you should definitely try it! :)
@@ThediyGrind
Did you seal it with something after you finished painting?
Yes I did. I used a satin clear coat, it’s mentioned in the description but I honestly do not recommend it. I have experienced some chipping I feel would not have happened if I didn’t use the sealant or if I would have used Annie Sloan’s chalk pain instead of Rustoleum. So if you’re going to use chalk paint instead of fabric paint. I recommend Annie Sloan’s instead. 😊
@@ThediyGrind but did you use a sealer ;+?
Your baby girl is stunning!
thank you! 😊
That looks fantastic....Amazing job.
Allison Hower thank you hun! 😊
This is beautiful thank you soooo much... I’m currently painting 2 chairs happy to see rustolium chalk paint used. I’m going to try that. Let you know how it works out❤️❤️😇❤️💕👍 also loves the use of a duster for paint brush.
cathy herring thank you! 😊 and yes please let me know how it goes!
Did you ever do it? I'm so curious how it turns out after being used for a bit.
Wow!! looks fantastic!! Your daughter is a cutie!! Yes, I have painted 4 chairs total and doing my sofa as I write!!
Kimberly Espinoza thank you! 😊 and nice! What’d you seal with?
Thanks for sharing! Very helpful
Thank you hun! 😊
This turned out so well! I may just stop by goodwill and see what I can find just to paint it! Your baby is adorable!!
AK90 yes do it!! And thank you! 😊
Ok, this tutorial is for any of those beginners and know that they don't have to pay the high price times to do something on a very tight budget. So good for you. I've never heard about adding fabric softener. But ok. May try. I've done it with several type of brands, from the Walmart bargains paints, to the Home Depot paints, can't remember the brands, and I've upgraded to DIY which I love, and the brushes. But I am older and have an older budget. LOL.. I'm sharing with my niece who just got her place.
Anna Ibarra I never said this video was for experts lol! Or beginners for that matter. I just showed the method I used to paint my couch and what worked for me! Also, yes! It’s VERY budget friendly and also the point of my video and DIY’s! In my opinion, DIY’s are for people who like to do crafts, art, creative things themselves, and also like to save money. I don’t think it matters very much what brand anyone uses or how much money they want to spend on their items, if that’s what they want to do! 🤷🏽♀️ No one has to follow the method I used and I encourage anyone to try their own method or others! This is just what worked for me and I enjoyed doing it! Glad you have methods, paints, and brushes that work for you! And thanks for sharing with your niece! 😊
@@ThediyGrind Oh yes Of course, my opinion that you don't need the high price of materials, as many will add that having good quality brushes, etc, is worth buying. I never did, even though I could afford it, but I felt why should I. I have many friends have been stirred away from doing it period.
This was my reason for saying that I feel it is a more friendly version for beginners and not scaring them away. I was not being a troll, I don't do that at all. Never done it and never well.
great job! love your assistant also :) what a cutie
Thank you so much! I definitely think I’ll do more projects with her! 😊
I love this and up your daughter is really cute. Good job girl!
Thank you so much! 😊
OK that looks incredible! I think I'm going to do this now.
You totally should! and thank you! 😊
Wonderful Wonderful Job!🌸
Thank you! 😊
You did a great job!
thank you! 😊
You’re so real and funny. you’ve got a fan in me!
Arwen Brimhall awww thanks so much hun! 😘
I painted my computer chair today! I was fortunate enough to have a good paintbrush🤣😂
That duster actually seems like a great idea.
It was a cheap one from the dollar store so it wouldn’t have lasted long but it did help distribute paint evenly!
That looks like the crunchiest couch I have ever seen.
Do you even do DIY’s or care about home decor? Why are you here? 🤔
Thanks. I'm definitely trying this
Try it!! 😊
Keep baby wipes around so when you get paint on the wall it'll come off with the baby wipes. Works really well.
Wet rag
Hello I loved the video. Can you use a paint roller ? I was thinking if I wet it then did the paint it might would work. Lol I don’t know help 😂
Hey that came out amazing. I want to redo an old settè for my mom for Mother’s Day. You said at one point you were going to seal it after but you didn’t show that part in the video. What do you use to seal it? Love your videos thanks for taking the time to film while you do all that. Girl I barely have the patience to finish a project more less film and edit the process. Much love from New Orleans ❤️⚜️
Abram Ojada thanks so much!! I appreciate your positive feedback! I used a paint sealer and just painted on like I did the paint but it did crack a little on the non-textured couch so I suggest using a wax to seal instead. Hope that helps!
It looks like it is a leather couch after.. has like a shine to it..
WideAwake * I agree! I loved that about it!
Ya I just peeped that I LIKE IT
Hi there, any ideas on how to paint steel buttons that are attached to a sofa. I love your bravery, open artistic mind. The sales person could not believe o would do such a thing...lol . Anyhow I would love to paint the buttons. Any ideas
Hi! Sorry for just seeing this comment! I would sand and prime the buttons! I have painted steel knobs and that’s what I did and it stuck! Let me know how it goes! 😊
And thank you for your positive feedback and for watching! 😊
Amazing!!!💖💖💖💖💖
Thank you!! 😊
Love this couch. You did a great job!
kelly collins thank you!! 😊
Thanks for the tips!! Going to try this on the couch in my camper..... love the music too, who is the artist??
Thank you! And I apologize I don’t know the artist for the music I got the music off UA-cam from music that isn’t copyrighted.
Looove it!
thank you! 😊
Looks beautiful! Good job!
Jodi Xo thank you! 😊
This is awesome 👌 👏 😎
Thanks 😁
Looks absolutely amazing! Did you use a wax after painting? Did you find any paint transfer, onto clothing when sitting?
Thanks for posting! I was just thinking if it was possible to chalk pain a couch so I googled it and your video came up. I loved it. Your daughter is adorable. I saw that you suggest to wax for the top coat, would it stain the clothes? Thanks again!
Thank you so much! 😊 the wax definitely won’t come off onto clothes, I personally didn’t use a wax but I have watched videos where they used it on chairs and couches and it didn’t! Google Annie Sloan she has a few tutorials out and she is the originator of chalk paint if I’m not mistaken.
Can u paint a velvet bedframe inhave a silver I hate it I'd love it a different colour and do it make the material hard or feel the same soft
sorry for the late response! I definitely believe you can! UA-cam painting velvet fabric I’m sure there’s a video out there that has more info on velvet than I do! 😊 good luck!
Wonderful job thank you for the video
abigail joy thank you! 😊
Pretty cool video. Thanks for sharing it. How is it after one year? Is the paint still holding up.
Hi! Thanks for watching! 😊 I no longer have the couch I gave it away to someone in need and unfortunately that person has passed away so I couldn’t find out to tell you sowwy! 😩
OMG ! I am so going to subscribe
Carol Bohm thank you so much Carol! 😊
This is amazing!! I'm planning on doing this to my brown leather couch but trying to find a good white paint to do it xxx
White will go perfectly over brown, or suggest getting a paint that has primer in it as well though or chalk paint! Thanks for the comment! 😊
Frenchic paint
Thank you!
I love your ingenuity and eagerness to tackle a project like that. Turned out perfect! Can you tell me approximately how many ounces of water and fabric softener you added to the paint? Doesn’t have to be exact but maybe the ratio ? Thank you.
Robert LaFountaine thank you so much! I honestly can’t tell you exact because I did eyeball it 😩😂 BUT I used more paint than water so if I had to give a ratio maybe 2:1🤔 I didn’t want it to be too watery! But you need enough for it to spread and not be too harsh on the fabric! Hope that helps! 😩
The diy Grind Thank you so much for your reply. I was thinking that might be the case but I just wanted to make sure before I got started. I can’t wait to begin. I live for this kind of thing so I really appreciate your ability to do this type of project. Your daughter is such a doll too!
The into music alone made me want to subscribe. What instrumental is that? Btw good job on the diy girl!
J thank you and let me go back and check for you and I’ll post the link!
Annie sloan isn't the creator of chalk paint.. She just brought it back. It was THE way to paint before mass production paints were a thing. Chalk milk paint has been around for centuries.
thanks for that drop of knowledge! I didn’t know that! 😊
Yassss beautifully done! Are you having to wait for each coat to dry before painting the next coat?
thank you! 😊yes ma’am I did wait for it to dry. I let it dry overnight
sis did that ! wow
Thanks hun! 😊
Can you please tell me the finishing wax you used on your couch? I can’t find a video telling me which one I should use
It came out Great!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much!! 😊
Hi, now that it has been some time, how comfortable does it sit now?
All looks great. I bought a ugly striped orange, brown and cream loveseat. It’s beautifully made though. So this is the next project.
Thank you so much! I’d love to see yours when it’s done!
looks great!!
thanks so much!! 😊
So inspired righttt nowwww!!!
Heather Ashmus yeah!! 😊
Did you wax them? They look fantastic!!!
no I didn’t I should have! 😩
How did you use the satin clear protective wall coat listed in your directions?
I painted it on lightly with a paintbrush and even coating! Hope that helps!
Hi! love it! does chalk transfer on clothes? how long is this expected to last?
Thank you! No it does not stain your clothes and if you stain it/seal it it lasts. But it also depends on the fabric of the coach to avoid cracking.
Love it!!! Thanks for making
Thanks hun! 😊
How much paint did you used for the large sofa? 1lt
how did you find it when you cleaned the sofa ? did anything come off?
Do you mean when I cleaned the sofa before or after I painted?
The diy Grind i mean in general with every day cleaning like if u got a stain on it for example x
Great job!
Tiffy Gal thank you! 😊
this couch was so cute noooo
Thanks hun! 😊
I noticed you have the satin clear coat in your description, where did you use it
I used it on the entire couch to finish it but I should have used a wax.
Thank you
Great work. Have you tried painting faux leather?
Fayliza H no I haven’t but I’d love to! Have you?
I haven't. I'm considering painting my red armless couch. The other option was to cover it with duck cloth, but it looks weird being armless. lol
How is it holding up? I want to paint a denim sectional to look like camel or cognac leather.
that sounds like it will look good! and sorry I don’t have an update I no longer have them! 😩
Can you update and say how the paint lasted on the sofa's.
Did they wear well?
They look amazing what was your topcoat?
The satin clear coat but I should have used wax. Thank you! 😊
That feather duster works better than the brush
thanks, I think I would definitely use that instead if I did it again!
