    I appreciate this video!! You're the only person to give detail on the sanding block grit!! And you're the first to specify the time it takes. I began painting my couch today & felt bad to not be done be evening. Thank you! 3 days is very doable. Cute kiddo, btw.

    Looks awesome. I'm happy to see floral vintage upholstery getting painted this way bc I have a huge floral vintage chair that's like super comfy but of course it's outdated. I wanna paint it charcoal but wasn't sure how the texture would end up. Your couches look nice n smooth. I'll make sure to sand between layers

    I like that you're down to earth and very budget friendly. We can save so many people oodles of money by teaching them to upcycle. Im a huge supporter of it.... I painted a old sectional hide abed once. With extre interior paint and some over priced liquid from Micheals which is made for paints to go on fabric. I was disappointed. It was a good learning lesson anyways. But I have a microfiber couch to tackle as I really don't enjoy the shade of brown. My life needs more blue in it 😜.... I am however wayyy to chicken to post videos... though maybe I'll muster the confidence. Good job and good finds. 🙏

    Hello😊 your sofa turned out absolutely gorgeous!
    I wonder if you can help me, I also painted a sofa, with the same technique, it looks really nice but if you sit on it it's super dusty and you have paint on your body. I don't want to sand the last coat because the sanding removes the brightness of the color, and I don't want to wax it because I like the way the fabric feels right now.
    Do you have any ideas or tricks on how I can make that sofa usable after painting it?

      Yes I did. I used a satin clear coat, it’s mentioned in the description but I honestly do not recommend it. Ok, this tutorial is for any of those beginners and know that they don't have to pay the high price times to do something on a very tight budget. So good for you. I've never heard about adding fabric softener. But ok. May try. I've done it with several type of brands, from the Walmart bargains paints, to the Home Depot paints, can't remember the brands, and I've upgraded to DIY which I love, and the brushes. But I am older and have an older budget. LOL.. I'm sharing with my niece who just got her place.

    • @ThediyGrind
      @ThediyGrind  4 роки тому

      Anna Ibarra I never said this video was for experts lol! Or beginners for that matter. I just showed the method I used to paint my couch and what worked for me! Also, yes! It’s VERY budget friendly and also the point of my video and DIY’s! In my opinion, DIY’s are for people who like to do crafts, art, creative things themselves, and also like to save money. I don’t think it matters very much what brand anyone uses or how much money they want to spend on their items, if that’s what they want to do! 🤷🏽‍♀️ No one has to follow the method I used and I encourage anyone to try their own method or others! This is just what worked for me and I enjoyed doing it! Glad you have methods, paints, and brushes that work for you! And thanks for sharing with your niece! 😊

    • @annaibarra3447
      @annaibarra3447 4 роки тому +1

      @@ThediyGrind Oh yes Of course, my opinion that you don't need the high price of materials, as many will add that having good quality brushes, etc, is worth buying. I never did, even though I could afford it, but I felt why should I. I have many friends have been stirred away from doing it period.
      This was my reason for saying that I feel it is a more friendly version for beginners and not scaring them away. I was not being a troll, I don't do that at all. Never done it and never well.

    Looks absolutely amazing! Did you use a wax after painting? Did you find any paint transfer, onto clothing when sitting?

    Thanks for posting! I was just thinking if it was possible to chalk pain a couch so I googled it and your video came up. I loved it. Your daughter is adorable. I saw that you suggest to wax for the top coat, would it stain the clothes? Thanks again!

    • @ThediyGrind
      @ThediyGrind  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much! 😊 the wax definitely won’t come off onto clothes, I personally didn’t use a wax but I have watched videos where they used it on chairs and couches and it didn’t! Google Annie Sloan she has a few tutorials out and she is the originator of chalk paint if I’m not mistaken.

      White will go perfectly over brown, or suggest getting a paint that has primer in it as well though or chalk paint! Thanks for the comment! 😊

    I love your ingenuity and eagerness to tackle a project like that. Turned out perfect! Can you tell me approximately how many ounces of water and fabric softener you added to the paint? Doesn’t have to be exact but maybe the ratio ? Thank you.

    • @ThediyGrind
      @ThediyGrind  4 роки тому

      Robert LaFountaine thank you so much! I honestly can’t tell you exact because I did eyeball it 😩😂 BUT I used more paint than water so if I had to give a ratio maybe 2:1🤔 I didn’t want it to be too watery! But you need enough for it to spread and not be too harsh on the fabric! Hope that helps! 😩

    Annie sloan isn't the creator of chalk paint.. She just brought it back. It was THE way to paint before mass production paints were a thing. Chalk milk paint has been around for centuries.

    • @ThediyGrind

      Thank you! No it does not stain your clothes and if you stain it/seal it it lasts. But it also depends on the fabric of the coach to avoid cracking.
