Looks good! Love the hair! I've done a bit of experimenting with this. I've decided not to spend the big bucks on chalk paint and sealers anymore as a result. I buy flat wall paint and add dissolved calcium bicarbonate to it and wow, homemade chalk paint for cheeeeeeap. I tried waxing to seal and other more expensive products. But I found that watered down polyurethane sealant with a little bit of same color tint comes out nicely. I did not use the poly on velour yet, my pieces were all a heavily textured upholstery. After it fully dries I us a plastic scrub brush to remove any roughness, I found it is less harsh than sanding blocks.(but the blocks might be better for velour?) I really enjoy your channel! It's so much work to do furniture up-cycling, so it's super impressive that you also put together so many nicely done videos . That must add so many hours, lazy me hasn't even tried! Thank you for all your hard work!
Thank you so much for such a thoughtful comment, Aubrae! I have heard good things about adding calcium bicarb but haven't tried it yet. Good to know that you've had success with it! I doubt you're lazy -- I started making videos when my job changed and I was only working 15 hours a week. I had the time then but now I have way less time haha! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching! Comment and let me know what you think I should try next. If you like'd this video, I have a whole playlist of furniture flipping videos here: ua-cam.com/video/FpIAChEMmdY/v-deo.html&ab_channel=KnowCanDo
Thank you so much for showing us how to paint fabric! While it looked like a lot of work it out turned beautifully! Good job...you can definitely be proud of this project!
😱 You are daring!!!👍🏿👍🏼👍🏽 I would have messed up the white wall next to the chair for sure. LOL. Thanks for the tips. I'm too chicken to try new technique unless I see someone else do it first. Hair and chair came out beautiful.
Just want to send kudos to you for the truly gorgeous transformation of the chair. Purple is probably my favorite color (tied with aqua/teal) and this is a sumptuous aubergine. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💜💚💜💚💜💚
This is the exact chair (color, style and fabric) I want to paint at my mom's house! I've experimented so far on a velvet type study buddy cushion to see how the fabric will react, not with chalk paint, but with interior house paint, fabric softener and water. I saw someone use a scrub brush (right after, while the paint is still wet) rather than sandpaper. So far I find that method better, in my case. It's a small 2" brush with a long skinny handle. On my study buddy, I also find it helpful paint in the direction the nap lays the smoothest. I've read a fabric medium is best to keep it from transferring to clothing so I'm gonna get an inexpensive one at Hobby Lobby after I'm finished with the paint. It's all an experiment for me at this point before I move on to furniture! You did a great job on your project and I'm feeling more confident now about doing the same after watching your video! Thanks for sharing! You have a face for short hair. Would love to see it all Halle Berry style!😁
I have that same chair. Mine is a mauve/pink. It is in much better condition than the one you are working on. However, my cat did scratch a bit on the wing portion. Anxious to see what come of your work.
Great job looks amazing. I been thinking about doing this also and selling on facebook market. I'm just not sure how to go about describing the product. How do you go about listing it? Do you say its been painted? I would imagine that would deter anybody from buying it. I been looking everywhere to see how people list these painted furniture.
Great job! Looks wonderful. Just FYI, I saw DIY Danie mix the paint with fabric softener. Maybe you wouldn't need to sand so much? creating less pink dust? Just an idea.
Thanks for the tip! I think that Danie used something other than chalk paint? Or maybe not. The video I saw of hers she was trying to get it to be leathery, so this was definitely a different project but I would definitely be curious to see what fabric softener could do! Thanks for watching :)
If you ever need a larger indoor form of floor protection Harbor Freight sells drop cloths with a tarp attached. If there's not a Harbor Freight near you they have reasonable shipping. Other stores probably sell something similar. I own 4 from Harbor Freight, I haven't owned any other drop cloth/tarp combo.
It turned out fabulous! I honestly thought it would always bleed paint. Now, I have similar chairs that have patterned fabric. Would chalk paint cover those? ,
Thanks, Judy! Yeah, gotta use a top coat if you don't want it to bleed! :) Chalk paint would work over patterned fabric, but if the pattern is raised at all, that pattern would still show through, if that makes sense.
Great job!!! I just found your channel and subscribed. The paint you chose matched perfectly with the previous chair color. I am going to go follow your Instagram. Most importantly though your hair cut is AMAZING!!!!
Thanks so much, Tia! I'm glad you're here. And oh my goodness I was SO excited about the color match of the paint and the chair haha. It was great! And thanks!
Hi! Loving your videos today, but I had a question. I just watched your "9 Sales and 1 Fail" video and your fail was attempting to chalk paint a chair, now you've done it so successfully here! I was wondering why you gave up on the other chair while the chair here was so successful? I really like that you tackled it & succeeded!! I like your hair, but you have that nice shaped head, so it looks cute on you!!
Thanks Vera!!! I actually did this one (the burgundy chair) before I did the other one. I was successful with this so I thought I would be with the other one but if you watch that one again you'll see I had some issues with the paint interacting with the chemicals from the cleaner i used (I THINK) and I had so many projects I just gave up haha. Thanks for watching!
This kind of synthetic fabric probably won’t work well with dye, which is absorbed. Paint sits on top. Synthetics don’t absorb liquids well or evenly (which is why they are great for upholstery, it makes the fabric stain resistant)
This is awesome! Love that chair! How has your experience with that spot cleaner? I'm looking for something like that, but some reviews of that one complained about leaking.
I just redid my chair that looks exactly the same but u did a dark teal but I'm wondering what ratio did you dilute the petina? I'm stuck on that step if the process
I really love the burgundy color you chose. Would you think a 3rd coat and then the clear top coat would have given a more even tone? I still see some color variations after 2 coats of paint or is that just the lighting or camera angle? Jo
Thanks, Jo! I love the color too. I think that’s probably just the camera angle. It looks pretty even to me in real life! But I’m sure a third coat wouldn’t have hurt. I was just too tired by that point haha. Thanks for watching! -clara
I've seen where a textile medium has been used with paint. Not sure it can be used with chalk paint but maybe then there wouldn't have been a need for a topcoat.
I am planning to dye or paint two loveseats. I am a little uneasy about it. What I have heard is paint tends to harden with time. I have had issues with dye. Like when the fabric doesn't accept the Dye. Either way I am concerned about it. It's too late to turn back. I am already committed but which one? Does paint harden in a year or two? Is there a dye I can trust to come out the color it suspose to? A dye that WILL ADHERE TO THE FABRIC? Can you tell me honestly which process will give the best chance of success? I am.already hearing all kinds of negative remarks from my friends and family. I must succeed in this project. I am thankful for your assistance or anyone's who has done this. Please no hearsay. Thank you This is very important to me. I am going to video the project from start to finish. I hope to answer some of the many questions I have and have read from others doing these projects. Sincerely Susan P.S. I am remodeling a 5th Wheel RV. I have no skills. So far its been trial and error after error after.......
Jen Dove - In the 1970s I dyed upholstery with Rit dye. Correction - I attempted to dye upholstered furniture with Rit and failed miserably. Indirect sunlight quickly leached the dye from one piece, another piece in a windowless room quickly faded due to a nearby 60 watt lightbulb. Hopefully the formula has improved. I would like to see a video utilizing the current formula Rit dye. I was thinking about experimenting with a pillow but this is even better - for me.

❤❤❤ good job there. Im painting my sofa and dust is coming off. Now im thinking to use wax on it. This video saved me❤😂
Yay! Dealing with wax is an important step!
great cut. like work on chair. was unaware of patina sealer. good to know.
Glad it was helpful! :)
Way to test that paint! That chair looks amazingly great. Thanks for giving this a try and showing us the outcome.
Thanks so much, Linda!! It was my pleasure. Thanks for watching!
I painted my couch in the 1980s with screen printing ink. It looked fab. Nice job on your chair the color is great!
That is so awesome! Never heard of that but it 100% makes sense that that would work. Thanks for watching!
I love that you just experiment and see what works. That's right up my alley!😉
Thanks so much, Chris! That's the only way I know how to do it haha!! Thanks for watching :)
This is wonderful just in the aspect of saving a piece of furniture from the trash dump. It is great for the environment. And the chair looks great.
Thanks so much! I was impressed with the results!
Wow, the result is really impressive! And you look great with the new haircut!

Finally another YT channel that flips furniture. I flip/upcycle furniture for profit. Keep filming. New Sub.
Thanks! Excited to check out your channel!
Did not know cloth could be painted! Wonderful video! You did a great job! Pretty!!
Thanks! I didn't either... until I did! haha. it was a fun project :)

I was skeptical too haha! Thanks for watching!
Hi! I plan on using your tutorial on my thrifted yellow velvet chairs! Where can I buy the liquid patina?
Amazing! The chair looks great! BTW You look fantastic with the new haircut! All the best :)

I would like to see you do the same thing again, but this time using an actual DYE, made specifically for fabric!
Thanks, Abigail! That. could be fun!!!

This is awesome! Love that chair! How has your experience with that spot cleaner? I'm looking for something like that, but some reviews of that one complained about leaking.
Thanks Midori!! I like the spot cleaner a lot, I’ve used it on probably 15 chairs with no problems at all!! Haven’t had any leaking issues so far!
Love it
Thank you :)
I just redid my chair that looks exactly the same but u did a dark teal but I'm wondering what ratio did you dilute the petina? I'm stuck on that step if the process
Amazing! TBH I don’t remember but I think probably 1 to 1 water to patina?
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Thanks! :)
Hell yeah Clara!
Thank you my friend !
I was wondering about the clear patina, did you dilute it the same ratio as the paint?
I think I did about 1 to 1!
Never mind my comment. This answers it!
Fantastic
Thanks Renee!
Wow that was gteat👍 what is the ratio paint and water?
Thanks Caroline! 2 to 1 water to paint!
I've seen where a textile medium has been used with paint. Not sure it can be used with chalk paint but maybe then there wouldn't have been a need for a topcoat.

Cute hair cut
Thanks so much!
Hello, how stiff, soft and ot crunchy was the result.?
Very soft. Due to danding
Sanding
Does it end up a crunchy fabric after painting it
Nope! If you use light sandpaper or a sanding sponge between coats it’s nice and soft. I was shocked!
