- The Dewalt Stealth Sonic Quiet Shop Vacuums are amazing. I was doubtful when i came across this, but after turning it on for the first time I was sold. This unit and others like it from Dewalt have great build quality, design, suction power, and are extremely quiet. I persoanlly will be using an upgraded hose because the on it comes with is a standar "wet dry vac" hose that is a little too short and has thin walls that can kink and crack over time. I tested this with. my rigid crush proof vacuum hose and it fits great! This is a fantastic shop vacuum and if you want to keep the noise levels down, then this wet dry vac may be the perfect option for you... ENJOY!!!

12:00 The decibel scale is logarithmic. Hence, it doubles in volume every 10 decibels. 7db difference is rather large, especially comparing values above 70db.
Might be worth mentioning that an increase in 10dB is actually a doubling of the sound so 7-10 dB is HUGE
I use the size 1 and 1/0 Mustad hooks to freeline for snook ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 and they have been fantastic. The points are super sharp, and the hook is small enough to blend with my baitfish, yet large enough to land fish 30" or more. I also use these hooks when I'm pier or surf fishing with my kids. They tend to catch tons of smaller snapper, whiting, and catfish, and we get far fewer gut hooks with these Mustad in-lines, which means more of them survive after release. I was actually using these hooks when I caught my friend too, but I think that had more to do with the bait I was using ;-)
The decibel scale is logarithmic. 80dB is 10x louder than 70dB
You are correct sir. A quick Google search confirms it. Good information.
exactly what I was going to say, most people don't know that which makes dB numbers confusing for them
Every 10dB is twice as loud, not 10 times louder
Oh thanks for the info, good to know!
@@brendangrimace wrong... 10db is 10x. 20db is 100x. 30db is 1000x, etc.
Decibel is a logarithmic scale. The DeWalt being 10Db quieter than the Ridgid does mean that our hearing perceives it as half as loud.
Every 10db increase is a doubling of perceived volume.
I bought one a few weeks ago. I work in a body shop and absolutely love how quiet it is.
Sears horsepower will never die! Automakers are missing the boat when it comes to peak hp specs.
Bought the DeWalt Stealth Sonic after watching this video. Best purchase of the year!
Been using it the house and it is quieter than our upright vacuum.
Sticking with my ridgid nxt and the upgraded hose which I love
But great review..thank you
Totally sold! Just the fact that you can talk, easily, and still be heard with the thing on. Great idea Dewalt had to make these things quiet.
Thanks and yea I think the talking portion really showed just how quiet it is in comparison
I like that you compared it to different but similar vacuums. Very useful video.
Compared to the must used brand shop vac
Nice comparison, thanks Josh 👍😁
Dewalt makes quality stuff! But I have to brag on my rigid. That thing is a tank! And has lasted me 3 years with absolute 0 problems and has been basically abused 😅
Just got the dewalt and I love this vac
Another great video thanks for sharing this Josh
Great video Josh! Thank you sir.
The noise levels of vacuum is important for us. Awesome review.
Especially dealing with Karen type customers who expect water tanks and generators, but the same type of customer will ask about quietness
Wow! Thanks for this video!
I was in the market for a shop vac and bought this based on this review. It’s awesome so far and super super quiet.
Would you say its more quiet than a typical household vacuum?
I would say it’s about the same. Maybe a little quieter.
Was literally looking at this on home depot and your review popped up.
I just went to Lowe’s and bought me one! Thanks for the review!
You bet!
Detailed my buddy’s truck yesterday late evening and ended up finishing the interior right before getting a noise complaint since it was 10:20pm… might have to switch from my rigid
Dewalt does make an aftermarket hose that is crush, kink proof and is made by dewalt, i have 2 connected on me really shopvac, great video, happy new year also
Best shop vac you can buy!
I would totally get one of these, but my rigid vacuum has lasted me over 10 years and I use that thing so much. It’s probably the best, hundred dollars I’ve ever spent in my life.
Yea the rigids are fantastic
I love Dewalt products.
was going to get the rigid, but now looking at dewalt
Ridgid made a wet/dry vac with snr quiet tech on it. Sounded about like the stealth sonic
I love dewalt products
vacmaster beast 5.5 hp it is the best one I ever bought. a little loud but as far as suction. nothing is better. please test it
Hi Josh, I was wondering if you had any chance to check out the Milwaukee Air Tip vacuum accessories? Useful things to get into the hardest of areas to reach. Lots of options. Thanks.
Remember Loudness is measured on a logarithmic scale. This means that an increase of 10 decibels (dB) represents a 10-fold increase in sound intensity and a doubling of the perceived loudness.
I bet they measured to decibels at the length of the hose. Even though it is quieter, you probably appreciate it more if it is as far from you as possible. I'm using mine with the Rigid hose. You can't hear the vac when you are working inside the car.
Is it possible to remove the sound dampening foam that’s inside the exhaust vents to clean it? I would imagine it gets clogged over time.
Yea I had a Dewalt vac also and I loved it. But the hose did suck and break. But the suction is good. At least the one I had. I haven't finished watching this video yet thoigh
On avg how much water do you use per car? Sedan, midsize/truck?
Dewalt LOVE 😜💛
70 is a huge improvement over 80, but 70 is still undesirably loud. It's getting into the loudness levels I like to listen to music at - 70 to 75 Db - where I'm looking to have the music "take over" my environment. Good levels for music, sounds I want to listen to, lousy for sounds I wish would go away. All that said, I'll thank them for the huge improvement they have made, and may well buy one of those since my existing shop vac is way louder.
the decibel chart is not linear. 80 decibels is twice as loud as 70 decibels; and 90 decibels is 4 times as loud as 70 decibels. a decibel chart should help to clarify the audible differences.
Wow that thing is pretty silent. Was looking at getting a Ridgid but might have to get the DeWalt now.
These things are so loud that it's important for us to think about hearing protection. Go with the DeWalt Stealthsonic if you care about hearing your kids when you're older.
Hi, after watching this video i am planning to return my 6 hp ridgid vac and buy the dewalt as i have ringing ears and need to wear ear plugs when working.
My question for you is, should i buy one vacuum and use for both dust and extraction with the DIY mytee kit and change the filters from wet to dry when needed.
Or should i buy one vacuum just for extraction and the other for dust?
"its way quieter, it doesnt seem like its just 7 decibels" yeah thats how log scale works lol
How about a performance test?
Phenomenal
Great review! I'm impressed on how quiet it is! Put an exhaust muffler on it and see how quiet it is!
Not a blower
is there one of the Wet Foam filters for this shop vac? Or do they only have that for the rigid shop vac from your other video with ripclean test
Does DeWalt make this in any other size?
DeWalt now sells these with an upgraded hose, and it looks like the Ridgid one.
Do you have a link to one with the upgraded hose? I looked for it, but I couldn't find one with the upgraded hose.
@@MrTapp34Thank you!!!
Can you also put a filter bag in the tub along with the hepa to help keep larger particles from clogging the hepa filter for longer periods? I couldnt find anything on this?
The answer is yes, you can use the filter bag and the hepa filter together.
I use a RIDGID... lifetime warranty. And just wear shooting ear protection.
Once you plug in the orange detailing hose in the shop-vacs it almost neutralizes/ limits their power because of its smaller size. So any mayor power difference between them will be diminished. If you want to test/feel their real power difference you have to use the wider hose. Great video comparison tho, keep up the great content.
You should announce in your title that your focused use is for car detailing. A close up of the unit's head assembly is needed to see if there's a seal between the bottom and top. Quiet is nice although 100% filtered air is the real concern. Is the motor in a sealed area from rest of vacuum? Most vacuums I've seen are actually moving fines back through area at top when shutting off and bottom junction and/or out motor location during use.
Do they have smaller versions than the 10’ for the stealth sonic versions?
No that's the only size Dewalt has.
I use a lot of Dewalt products. Not sure if I would upgrade to this or the Rigid yet. The shop vac I use now is called The Beast.
Just stopped using the beast tiredof the noise 😊
@@matthewmiller1882 So loud! With that and the generator going, it's definitely loud.
I can't use my beast without sound deadening headphones lol. Although the water lift is so good Im selling my mytee Spyder and using it as a diy extractor so I'm thinking this DeWalt might replace it for dry duty.
If you care about hearing your kids when you're old, get a quieter one...
The rigid probably has more power because it’s a blower also
I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find it, but can anyone point me to in the direction of which foam wet filter to use for this vac that will fit?
Did you ever find out what foam filter to use? I just emailed Dewalt about that. Can’t seem to find it online anywhere. Haven’t heard back from Dewalt yet.
Thanks
What is your opinion on this model with StealthSonic vs a model where you will use a kind of muffler to lower sound. Is this one way better? (I see mixed comments searching fast about muffler, some saying it doesn't lower noise much, but maybe there are different ones and if you have two, I guess you compared?)
I have an older Craftsman with a long 15" muffler. Doesn't do much and I still have to wear hearing protection. If the DeWalt is as quiet as they say, it's worth the upgrade.
How much do u charge for a full detail???
Could you put the muffler on it? I wonder how the ridged with the muffler compared to stock whisper dewault.
Is this for real?
@text-5675 hey Josh what is happening?
Q: How do you wash/clean truck roofs. I just washed mine for the first time and was clueless.
WHAT?
🤣
Sorry, but no. I'm still using a Ridgid shop vac I bought '21' years ago. No joke, its 21 years old and I use it weekly for one job or another. So far its been simply indestructible.
I didn’t hear anything you said, what did you say? 😂 👂
Good machine
Hose 2 short same as cable..
Paper bags too delicate -even if you very carful they split and you got all of that dust blocking filter -very disappointing 😞
u have to understand dB, its not a linear scale
Decibels do not work that way. 7 decibels is a lot of difference. The scaling is I believe on a squared relationship. Not linear
You are right!
I'm always lookin to upgrade my Hoes!😁
Have three of these in the shop they all have gotten loud eventually I really don't like them. Personal opinion
Interesting and good to know. I’ll keep an ear on this one and see what happens. Thanks!
@@imjoshv that'd be awesome hopefully do an update video on it in the future so I know your experience. This just happened to be the one our boss invested in. Don't get me wrong it gets the job done but the hose like you mentioned isnt great, became extremely loud eventually and the power is significantly decreased after few months use. But we do use them constantly on a daily basis in our shop and it's always hectic and busy, busy, busy they have been used hard on disgusting vehicles so naturally have to take that into account. I really appreciate your content and all the effort you put into it. I've learned a lot from your channel.
Are you running filters in them? Every shop vac gets loud when the bearings eat themselves from either no filter or a 1 layer shitty one letting all the fine dust through
❤❤❤❤
sounds like you have the flu or a cold
You have allergies bro!!?
