DJI Drones Flight Experience With iPad Mini 6 and iPhone 13 Pro Max

- In this video, we are testing out the display and flight experience using Apple's new iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPad Mini 6 while flying DJI drones such as the DJI Air 2S and DJI Mini 2. Sometimes when new hardware and new operating systems are launched existing apps do not behave as intended or expected. If you are wondering if your new iPhone 13 or iPad Mini 6 can use the DJI Fly App with iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 installed without issue...rest assure everything appears to work as intended with my testing.

Great video!! After flying more on the IPhone 13 have you noticed it over heating? I got the 12 Pro Max and it overheats quickly but if they fixed it on the 13 I’ll probably upgrade. Thanks for the insight!!

Both new iPhone 13 and iPad mini 6 look like great new devices. It's just a shame they didn't screen any brighter on the new iPad mini. Great review Shawn.

Good review.... as a drone pilot(MVA2) I was very excited to replace my old mini with the new one !! I bought it and returned it the next day. The screen is not just not bright enough,even in moderate sunlight. It needs to be at least twice as bright, the new 12.9 inch pro is the only ipad screen bright enough to really do the job properly. Trpltech makes a good bright screen but the tablet itself is both outdated,EXPENSIVE and a one trick poney. The Crystal Sky doesn't work with many drones and does not offer anything other than a bright display.... at a huge cost. The new smart controllers screen is to small and doesn't perform as well as the stock controller...and expensive !!
Thank you for mentioning the comparison of the smart controller versus stock. This was THE question I had when I was contemplating purchase.
Was that the mini 6 WiFi model or cellular?, does the WiFi model work perfectly with the dji app especially the map within the app as I believe it doesn't have built-in GPS......

Great reviews and informative as usual Shawn. What about the charging options for IOS on DJI Fly app with the particular iPad Mini 6 since it using USB-C connector port? Is it any differents?
Good info, thanks. Does the Air 2S come with the small adapter that allows an iPad Mini to be held by the controller? Also, can the little icons around the perimeter of the display be enlarged at all so they are easier to distinguish when flying?
Unfortunately it does not come with an adapter you do have to purchase that separately to mount an iPad mini they’re fairly inexpensive they can be picked up on Amazon for about $10. As for increasing the icons that is not an option but definitely a good idea they should make that an option
@@AirPhotography Thanks, I ordered the adapter from Amazon. Yes, the icon size should be adjustable. What good is a larger display if the icons aren't larger also. People in their 50s who see fine at a distance don't focus well up close and no one wants to wear reading glasses when keeping a drone in sight. A big miss by DJI.

My iPhone goes dim in the slightest heat. It’s very annoying and can really ruin your day and maybe even cause an accident. Does the iPad Mini do this dimming thing? I have a mini 5 and it has not dimmed on me, but I have not used it a lot for flying.

I do , I bought this iPad mini (5th gen) to use for my Dji mini2 )which I lost about 1 year ago ) but I use it with my FIMI x8 2020 and it works great . If you want to use the map feature you just tether your phone to the the iPad and it shares the internet connection enameling maps function.

I use the iPad mini 6 with my mavic 3 pro, it’s great but the screen output could be brighter
I have a 6th generation iPad mini and trying to hook up a dji mavric air 2 drone, but when plugged in, the charge battery indicator blinks like it’s charging and beeps. But after a second it stops changing, then second later it starts to charge and beeps. This goes on for as long as the cable is plugged in from controller to mini. (It’s kinda like your plugging it in then pulling plug). I’ve tried several C-cables but nothing seems to work. I hook my drone up to my iPad Pro 2022 and it loads up fine and I can take off quick and easy with no issues. The reason I got the new iPad mini was to save space when heading out to fly my drone.

Really nice review. I have just bought a Cendence controller for my inspire 2 and am considering a mini 6, as it’s a bit heavy with an iPad Pro 11”. Do you think this would make a good combo (with a sun hood)?
What case are you using for the 13m Pro Max? I have an otterbox and it won't fit into the RC N1 controller.

You briefly mentioned that there was a hood designed for the DJI Tablet holder. Is that the same as the regular hood that mounts on the controller. If not where is this special hood available?
Not having any luck with my NEW iPad mini 6 and my Phantom 4 pro (not the v2) still ok with the iPad min 5 though But want the iPad mini pro 6 due to space being better

Nice video. I noticed you have LumaFusion on your iPad mini. Are you editing video on multiple devices using LumaFusion? If so, how do you manage working on a project between multiple devices? I want to start an edit on my iPad mini, but finish it on my iPad Pro. I haven’t found an easy solution besides completely exporting my project from one device and then importing it on the next device. Thank you
Myself I tend to edit on one device but I do believe it is easily done with the export tool. You can export it as a complete package and then open it on any device

@@sarapmagbiyahevlog I had the same issue with my iPad Mini 4 (which I have used for four years and has worked GREAT for my Mavic 1 and 2). Now that I have the Mavic 3, the CPU on the iPad Mini 4 just can't handle the upgrades to the new GoFly App. What did you end up getting for a monitor? I'm still looking.
Another great video. I bought a type C to lightning cable to connect with my iPad Mini gen 5. It only works if I use the right hand C port on the RC. When I use my iPhone 12 Max Pro with the supplied cable, it works on the left hand C port on the RC. Is there a reason for this? The manual doesn't explain. Thanks
I'm also curious as to why there are 2 USB-C next to each other on the RC. No mention of it in the manual that I could find. Any luck?
@@CB-qy2zl Hi CB. No I didn't pursue the question as I bought a DJI RC Pro which eliminates the need to attach the RC to a phone or tablet. Very expensive but brilliant!

How about an editing video for iPad Mini 6 and insta360 One R. I don’t see any 360 videos with iPads. I only see videos on editing with laptop software or on phones.

Buy coincidence today I took my remote controller off my mavic 2 zoom to the Apple shop in Brisbane Australia to see if the new mini iPad 6 did fit ok of course no problem at all so all I have to do now is find a new connecting cable from the drone to the mini iPad 6

I bought an Air 2S and tried to use it with my Mini 4 and was getting horrible video lags. D o you think that that has to be with the fact of the Mini 4 being old?
I just got the mini 3 pro and when I use it with my iPad mini 4 with wifi/lte the video lag is terrible as well. Guess I’m going to upgrade to the mini 6 5:09
@Patricksadie67 Update: After I posted this comment 11 months ago, I got a newer iPad mini, and the premenstrual was immediately solved. Nowadays, I fly my Air 2S with the DJI RC control since it is more convenient and, so far, no issues whatsoever. 👍🏾

yes, I have a question sir, I'm from England and recently purchased the DJI Mini 4 K, been working great after a week, but then i got a converter to hold my mini ipad 2 wired it up, flew ok up to 60 mts in height and the same in length, just would not let me go any more, so something isn't set correct, but ive no idea what......ive even adjusted all the height/distance ect all the way, made no differnce? any thoughts sir ?
Check the settings make sure you don’t have any limits set under the safety tab

hello, I have a question, how does the ipad mini 6 wifi, which does not have gps, make the drone perform an RTH, which is changed in flight to a different landing point?
When you power up the drone it creates its own 5G Wi-Fi network which the controller finds and connects to when you open the flight app , this is why you can fly pretty much anywhere including rural or remote areas .

If you go into settings on your iPhone or iPhone go to display and brightness and turn off True Tone ….helps in sunlight…Check it out….

Great video! Looking to upgrade my Air 2s to exact combo with the Mini 6. Did you get a wifi only or a cellular version of the Mini? If you had wifi only, were there many issues? Never flown with a tablet before!
It is just the Wi-Fi version that I have and no there’s no issues. Quite often when I fly with a phone I will put it into airplane mode anyways so I don’t get annoying distractions. The only thing is you won’t be able to pull up maps. However if you get the Wi-Fi tablet you can always connect to your phones Wi-Fi if you need
Just use your phone as a Hotspot !! No need to buy the cellular model.
But it wouldnt get wifi from your phone. Its just the Internet Connection. It can only get wifi from wlan

Yes, indeed it can on top of that does it does not have as bright of a screen.
PLEASE HELP…….I have the air 2s drone and the iPad mini 6. But the live view and also the recording is really bad jittering when there’s faster motion to the left and right as if parts of the recording is missing also in live view it’s so so annoying it’s as if it skips frames is this normal or is there a problem that I can fix please ….big thanks to anyone who can help. ..

@@AirPhotography What about the new Smart Controller 2? I just heard that will be an available option for Mavic 3. Maybe better to wait for that? That should solved the brightness problem, right? Have you done a review of the current Smart Controller?
@@AlanCath smart controller doesn't perform as well as the regular controller has a small screen and is $800... I've really gone down the rabbit hole on this subject !! Mini is not bright enough.
The smart controller is still the best for brightness, right?
Yes it is probably the best all in one solution with a nice bright screen

You don’t need a cellular connection to fly. Wi-Fi model works perfectly. If you do want connection so you can load Maps you can always hotspot it to your phone

Personal myself I don’t find it an issue. It’s not as bright as a phone. But usually I just sit in the shade and then it’s not a problem.
If using the Ipad does it have to have wifi because I have the ipad mini but without wifi. Will it work or would I have to tether with the iphone?
No you do not need to have any kind of cellular Wi-Fi connection. In fact a lot of people put their phone into airplane mode when flying just so they don’t get all the distractions from messages and phone calls. The only thing that won’t work because you cannot bring up a real time map view.

Hello! So my current issue is upgrading my iPhone from the 11 Max Pro to the 13 Max Pro. I didn't have any issues flying, but when I was done flying, all my photo captures on the DJI Fly app and my iPhone were black (black thumbnails). I am unsuccessful in searching online with any other owners with this same issue. It may be a simple fix, but I'm at a loss. All of my firmware is updated, and I deleted and reinstalled the app. HELP! ... Thank you.

Shawn, do the IPhone 13 and Mini 6 still experience screen dimming when they get hot when flying?
Since recording that video yesterday I did two flights back to back with the iPhone 13 full battery drain and I didn’t have any issues. Mind you it wasn’t a overly hot day so that could also play into it

Did you received any error messages on mini 6 about mobile device being overloaded? I am getting this error all the time on mini 4 . No issues with iphone 12. I assume it needs at least 4 gig of ram on device. Please let me know. Thank you

Thanks for info. Please keep your voice at a constant volume. You start out loud and gradually grow softer and softer. I use a similar setup with my drone. I use an iPad Mini 5 with a Leukee adapter for my controller to iPad. Works great.
