Some of us do mate , I have pocket I made out of the outdoor sun blinds material attached to my shitter door . It fits magazines, tablets up to 14 inch no problems. You have to have these luxuries in life mate 😊.
My iPad mini w/cellular (and pencil) is my primary device which does 80% of what I need to get done. Everything else is for my iPhone 13 mini. Its a perfect combination that can truly enhance the user experience.
I have this exact setup and I’m so happy! I “downgraded” most will say but to me I UPGRADED from an iPhone 14 pro max and 12.9in iPad Pro to the iPhone 13 mini and iPad mini 6 and I’m beyond happier with this combo!! And also I have an Apple Watch SE 1 which I use for fitness, etc. just cool to know there’s someone else out there with this amazing combination of tech!
I also have this combination. Add a Planck keyboard and it’s pretty much ergonomic perfection. I know: totally counterintuitive that a smaller set up would be, but I realise it’s because handspan and eyespan actually have their limits, and they don’t have to be stretched.
Long-time Samsung user, but got the iPad Mini 6 (just demolishes all Android tablets), so now that my phone is over 4 years old I was considering the iPhone Mini 13 because of its size and compatibility with the Mini 6, but I'm unsure how well it combines with a Windows laptop. It's basically either this or the S23 which ignores the iPad but is more functional with Windows
I am a ipadmini user since its first release in 2013. Changed to Ipadmini 5 March 2020 and now just waiting for the Ipadmini 7. I bring it everywhere. My wife also had it in 2013 (sold it after 2 years) and then she went down the Iphone 6 to Xs to 13 Pro Max now with an IpadAir. She sold the Ipad Air and now waiting for the Ipadmini7 also. IPads/Air are just too big to lug around. We have dozens of Ipad Pros at the hospital though.
I replaced my heavy DSLRs, desktop PCs and Macs, 17-incher gaming notebooks, iPad Pros, 21-inchers pen displays and touch screen monitors with only three devices: M2 MacBook Air, iPad Mini 6 (with Apple pencil) and iPhone. Now, I'm always on the go and travelling with these gadgets. I'm in my middle seventies and never looked back.
So now you can work whenever wherever you are, but you can not play normal (not mobile) games :( When you have only these 3 devices, you know you getting older 😅
The ipad Mini is the first device I grab in the morning. So comfortable to hold and read my notifications I would have gotten on my iphone. Reading news/articles or watching a few videos while eating breakfast and drinking a morning coffee at the table. Anytime I would have grabbed my iPhone, I grab my iPad Mini instead. The weird aspect ratio of the Mini 6's screen is surprisingly okay for videos in landscape mode, and scrolling through reddit in portrait mode.
Using a stand with the iPad mini raises the screen a few centimeters. That has made it usable as a laptop for me from time to time, even in extended sessions and with two windows open.
I use my iPad Mini for most everything I do, except for phone. I’m retired and not a power user by any measure, so it’s really pretty good as a laptop replacement. iCloud makes my files accessible on my MacBook, if I want to do more serious editing or printing. I do very little phoning - I prefer text or email - so I only use my iPhone when I’m out and about. Otherwise, the Mini is just about perfect (or at least adequate) for so many things, it would be the one piece of tech I would choose if I could only have one. I hope Apple keeps on supporting the Mini and bringing out new editions. They have a real winner in this product.
I tried to use my iPad mini as a phone for a few months and it actually worked. I used google voice and FaceTime and iMessage to people who used an iPhone. I made it work, but it was frustrating at times too so I’m glad I have a phone again. Still carry my iPad mini everywhere I go though
The iPad mini has been my favorite device in the last few months. I use it all the time. When I don't have my laptop and need to do basic document editing it is more than capable. It's small enough as a media consumption device that it doesn't feel heavy or big when Im in bed watching my favorite series. I even use it as my infotainment/navigation device for my car. It's small enough that I can place it along side my car's actual infotainment which I still need because of the reverse cam. I hope they don't discontinue the mini lineup. I love both my 12 mini and iPad mini.
The one thing I really envy Samsung users for is dex. Having a little dock where you place your phone and it turns into a desktop like experience is brilliant. I use an iPad Pro as a computer replacement, so I carry an iPhone and iPad but being able to even drop the iPad and have the large phone and dex like option would be even greater. As for if folding phones are the future. I don’t think so. I think they are cool ideas, but when I tested the galaxy fold I hated the crease in the middle and the flimsy feel of the screen. Also a hinge is just another thing that will break. I think by the time folder phones get really good, AR will be picking up speed. As soon as they get that in a normal looking glasses we will all be using those. Then the world is your screen and we won’t care about size and stuff. I’m just hoping they figure out how to make them the computer too. Imaging just sitting down, pulling out a keyboard or something and doing work. Where your available screen space is 365 degrees in all directions up down and all around. Then when your done you kick back throw on a move and enjoy. Then it’s time to go and now your mobile and getting messages and alerts as you go on the glasses. I think that’s the future and the devices now including foldable are something to keep us interested until that future is here.
Yeah , dex is handy mate , although i must confess i rarely use it now , Im old and i dont get out much , when it first came out with the galaxy S8 series , i bought the phone and dock , and about the same time my PC carked it , so i thought i will give dex ago , which back then was very new and somewhat unrefined and a little buggy , but still very workable with the odd work around , and dex became my home computer for the next 1.5 years , and for general duties even then on a phone with 4 Gb of ram , it was actually pretty darn good , i supplemented it with Multi USB hub and had wired mouse , wired keyboard , and i ran android , as well as chrome , and i could have about ten tabs open from memory , and all the while it was in the dock it was charging the phone , i also had a choice of using BT speakers , wired external speakers or the monitor speakers , or i could use the speaker on the phone which surprisingly was quiet loud because the fan vent in the dock that also kept the phone cool directed the sound from the single bottom speaker upwards , i dont know if that was by design from samsung or fluke :) , but it was not bad at all . I actually grew to prefer dex over my PC , because i could use my phone out and about all day accumulating data , photos , video , ,etc , and when i got home i put it in the dock and 20 seconds later everything on my phone was up on my 27 inch monitor ready to go , and it played youtube , did general computing ok ( within reason , you wouldnt go video editing on an old phone ) . Yes dex is handy , even if it is just in reserve for when you need it , i dont know if sammy still has the puck foldable dock , but i thought that was very cool indeed .
A lot of us do this with our foldables. The Z Fold 4 or not 5, its a phone that turns into a tablet and you also get Samsung Dex so you get a full desktop experience when attaching a screen. A truly all in one device, with really high end specs. And an actual 120ghz amoled display. I really wish Apple would release higher end hardware, because I would LOVE to buy a 120hz amoled ipad mini.
Phone & tablet size has disproportionately risen lately when they were always originally intended to be small, the iPhone mini 13 & the iPad mini 6 are the perfect combination of fully functioning lightweight powerful products in a compact portable format, expensive yes but totally unique & niche. I always buy the cellular version of ipads, yes it increases the initial purchase price but the convenience of cellular especially when travelling is worth it, so easy to pop in a prepaid data sim or activating the esim for connectivity is a bonus I don’t understand why some people limit themselves to just wifi.
I have both the mini and iPad Pro for school, the mini is by far my favorite. It’s portable and not too heavy but very practical compared to trying to do things on my iPhone with a tiny screen.
I have used a standard iPad in the role w/ Zoom Voice. Works pretty good if it;s your work #. I prefer to go in the opposite direction, though. I have a Watch, Phone, iPad Mini, iPad Pro, and MBA. The Watch is my main device for alerts, quick calls, etc. My phone [14 Pro] serves primarily as a camera and the device I need to link everything together from my cell carrier. The iPad Mini goes everywhere with me as my digital notebook. My iPad Pro and MBA are my primary productivity devices, and I love being able to use them to create a wireless dual monitor setup anywhere. The high-end camera capability, to me, is the main thing that prevents us from moving away from "smart phones"- everything else is duplicated on multiple other devices. The biggest thing to me is that each device in your personal tech stack needs to both contribute it's own specific functionality, while also being additive to the other devices. A cellular Surface Pro can give you calling, tablet functionality, handwriting, and a full OS / laptop experience, and for a long time, I thought that convergence was exactly what I wanted. Then, Apple came out with Sidecar and Universal Control for Mac and iPad, and suddenly thee was a reason to have both devices on you- dual-screen on the fly. I think that, with damn near everything having a cellular antenna these days, that the "phone" is the least necessary component, but it's also hard to replace because of the camera aspect. What I'm left with is the thought of spending the phone money on a nice camera. The big issue: Is it possible to tie an Apple Watch and an iPad out to a single phone number like you do when you have an iPhone at the center of the operation?
My phone broke and I've had to main my iPad 10.2" alongside a feature phone. The iPad is just too cumbersome to carry around everywhere. You need to carry it in a bag, it's uncomfortable to hold in bed. However, the battery life is really good I also used to use the iPad as my main laptop (2021). Here are the biggest issues - no NTFS support (I can't use flash drives that were formatted for Windows) - most apps don't have good keyboard shortcuts (makes you work slower) - at the time Lumafusion was the only editor and it wasn't advanced enough for my needs (I managed to get my gaming channel to 1000 subscribers though) - Microsoft office *SUCKS* - stage manager didn't exist so I spent lots of time swapping between apps and waiting for them to reload - the way iPad handles audio sucks (e.g. it will mute music if I scroll past an Instagram post that has sound)
I'm a samsung kinda guy. I use an A71 phone. Great phone, great cameras, as a construction foreman I love that I can walk through a building site checking items off on an excel spreadsheet, taking notes, sending and recieving emails and phone calls. Eventually I end up back at my office space on site where I have my galaxy A8 tablet with a logitech Bluetooth keyboard and mouse setup. Thanks to Onedrive & smartswitch, everything I did on my phone is now also on my tablet and vica versa. Loving my setup, it does everything I need it to do, no need for a laptop. I did it all with just the phone before but I found it nice to have 2 screens when I'm back at my office. Cheers
There’s a ton of knockoff “magic keyboards” available for the iPad Mini 6. I got one of those off Amazon and it honestly works pretty well as a laptop replacement for what I do in college. Would I be more comfortable with an actual laptop or a larger iPad? Probably, but nothing beats the iPad Mini form factor for me. I’d rather have what is, in my opinion, the best tablet experience and a mediocre laptop replacement than carry around a laptop and/or a regular iPad. It works most days, besides I usually know what I’ll need in advance so if I really need to I’ll begrudgingly bring along my laptop or just do it on my desktop when I get home.
Haven’t owned a phone in a year now, just an iPad Mini 6, a Macbook and a sim card. Here in Thailand, I take calls on earbuds with Line or Messenger. The only downside is I have to constantly carry a small backpack for it. Universal control is a great feature to connect usb mice and keyboards. It’s still in need of some development, but Apple has made my iPad and laptop work rather seamlessly together.
Been waiting for Apple to have a foldable phone forever. Yes I will be happy to have phone and iPad in one. Having ability to utilize as laptop with larger monitor that is not a mirror situation would be phenomenal, but not as my only laptop system.
👍 I’ve tried this with my Mini 5G and it works well with Google Voice, calls are very clear and when the Tablet voice isolation feature is activated background noise is practically eliminated regardless if using the device internal Mic or Bluetooth earbuds, Siri also has limited capabilities with GV allowing text messages to be composed and sent by voice, but Google has not activated the capability to allow Siri to make Phone Calls yet..
I’m a digital nomad and full-time international travel vlogger. My VOIP line comes in clutch because I’m always switching sim cards jumping from country to country. A VOIP line lets me keep the same number that I can use internationally over wifi. Unfortunately, I still have to keep a standard cell phone line active because some services can detect if you’re using a voip line and will only let you register for their services if you have a real phone line.
Great video, I gave my personal laptop to my parents as soon as i got an iPad mini. True I do have a work provided laptop, but i never take it for trips. The iPad mini with an hdmi adapter works great if I want to watch movies on a hotel TV. Usually when im on a trip i need it for minimal work done, like checking emails, browsing the web and minor stuff like that. I never take my work laptop for personal things anymore. If more people have to look at the screen, its bound to be connected/casted to an external monitor, so why bother with the entire laptop when the iPad is sufficient. I've done whole presentations off the iPad directly while connected to a projector. I've thought of getting one of those knock off magic keyboards for it, but I realised that if it comes to a point where I need an actual keyboard, then the screen size isnt sufficient as well. iPad + iPhone combo is perfect for everything I need that isn't work related.

I have an older model iPad Mini and love it. I use it daily as a second screen for my laptop at home, and it goes everywhere with me. It fits nicely in a mid-size purse / bag, and doubles as an on-the-go workspace. This is the second Mini I’ve owned and I have found it to be the most versatile model in the Apple lineup.
I did a similar thing ? Having only copper wire phone line ,Internet was slow and expensive. My solution to a laptop ,land line Mobile phone and tablet, is phablet Samsung Active2 and a Motorola Defy. I use the Motorola as the hot-spot and the Samsung Active as the tablet/ computer , and back up phone when needed . This is much more user friendly. I am a general browser, not a Internet worker . But this works very well , not missing land-line/ home Internet, the Samsung Active/ Motorola combo while not being cutting edge or top specs, in fact quite low specs by today's standards, works great for me .
I love the iPad mini 6. I always hated the mini because it was always the cheap iPad, and the iPad was way too big for me. But the new powerful iPad mini 6 was a game changer. I hope they keep it around.
I have the mini 5 rn and I'm so jealous of the 6 and all it's new features. The screen. The speakers. The case. The pencil 2. The flash and camera. Ugh. It's such a better ipad.
I did something similar with my Samsung Tab A! Ran into the same issues with bathroom logistics and not being easy to carry around (the Tab A is bigger than the iPad mini) and it was not convenient for document editing because I didn't hook up an external keyboard, but otherwise pretty good - it was great for attending online classes and meetings during the lockdowns. While not able to switch entirely over to it, I've made it my default entertainment and social media hub, so the phone is only for calls, text, taking photos and payments + laptop for more intensive work.
Until 2019 it was actually still doable in android . I used a Samsung galaxy Tab A8 with SPen gens 1&2 from 2015-2019. A friend also did the same with her Samsung galaxy tab S2 8 inch. Sadly now there are no good 8 inch Android tablets
The iPad mini has been an awesome addition to my daily activities. I haven't used it as a phone but I do use it as an auxiliary monitor with my macbook. The best thing is that I use it as a whiteboard or to show circuit analysis sims when using zoom. With the "share via airplay" option in zoom, I bring up Multisim Live or EveryCircuit on my iPad mini and can share that without setting up a different camera or having to hold my iPad mini up to the camera.
If you have Citrix/remote desktop at work and office 365 it actually works quite well in many respects for certain things where iOS isn’t sufficient/suitable.
Does the iPad mini still completely limit and disable the touch sensitivity of the apple pencil? That's the entire reason I never bought one years ago..
I was considering upgrading from my current XS to a 13 Mini … until the new Pros got the Titanium build - my kids have the half year dark green 13 Pro, and I hate the weight of their phone. After saying that, if Apple release a new iPad Mini before my XS loses the latest iOS, I might still go for the 13 Mini and upgrade my current 5th Gen iPad Mini. Thanks for the content!
As someone who is considering switching to an iPad, I am conflicted. Nobody has shown the phone app, and it is significantly frustrating. I had a similar problem with the Samsung A7 tablet two years ago. I was told I couldn't use it as a phone by the providers who want to sell you data plans, and the costs over two years are far more than buying out the device. Nothing is free. It is a scam to sell you data you don't need. I would also have to change chargers & I heard you can't plug in a headset & charger at the same time unless you buy another adaptor. I am in Canada. I don't want a bigger tablet. It is nice to have the 8" screen. Is the switch worth it? I still miss the technology of my last Blackberry Key1. And an actual keypad.
If (and that’s a big “if”) you mainly use web apps, the split screen app is actually very useful, as it allows one to open multiple windows on your monitor when using the Mini. A serious flaw with using an iPad as a phone is that 911 doesn’t work. But, having used the Mini as a web phone, a mini laptop with a laptop case, and a tablet DOES work. But I only do so when traveling on a motorcycle trip, where space is at a premium.
For the past year, I've used an iPad Mini as my primary phone (I'm a long time Google Voice user). It has worked well in that capacity, but lack of portability is starting to get to me. I think I'm going to continue using it instead of a smartphone but offload some of the phone duties to an Apple Watch.
I use a full size iPad this way. I use number barn for the phone number it can be used for 2fa etc and also has cool business features like setting up menus that scare away scam callers. Forward this to your google voice/textnow to receive the calls, use the number barn app to call out. You can even keep your phone number. ($6/month) I attached a carabiner and clip it to my belt loop. I also use a waterproof ruggedized rubber case for all weather and drop situations. Works great.
That is a fun idea but we all know it isn’t practical. Gotta admit i do want to try it out lol. I have tried the iPad as a laptop replacement but for me it didn’t work. I def like the desktop and file system of a full fledged OS over an iPad. I have come to terms with the idea that I will always have a phone, laptop, and tablet
Bathrooms- install a white board! They’re usually magnetic and you can slap the iPad onto it (screen facing you) with the Smart Cover open. The cover is strong enough to hold the iPad in place while you wash up!
most issues you mention seem to be solvable quite easy. the phone restrictions are quite arbitrary and can be solved with software (by apple), the tablet size is actually perfect for many applications like reading or note taking and if the mini gets a new chipset in the future it can make a decent desktop replacement. only as a laptop it‘s very compromised due to the small screen. i see a bright future for the ipad mini ❤
Can the mini be unlock… Thank you for the video… also for bathroom in ikea an aluminum 6 inch rail for kitchen plates and Make a whole in the center and mounted to the wall in front of the toilet and it can hold up to a 16 inch monitor
I use a Mini as a "laptop" and tablet when traveling and sometimes when I'm out and about and need more than my phone. I use it with a folding keyboard and the pencil. It works pretty well-although it is not a replacement for my MacBook, which has sophisticated video and photo editing software. With that said, I. have done simple video and photo editing on it, which has worked out well. This is mostly for clients who need work done on the fly. Yes, I could have brought along my MacBook, but the Mini is so much lighter, and I usually bring a heavy camera, lenses, etc. On a personal level, I can absolutely write and edit my blog using the Mini. Lastly, I love the battery life.
I pretty much do this with my Samsung Ultra. If it had a pen like my ipad mini for drawing and taking notes I really wouldn't need anything else except for games. I'd love a single device ecosystem. I could imagine having a phone sized device that has pen like the iPads, and then a docking station to allow it to run better graphics and and things when necessary, but having the option to take whatever select files with you in the go when needed.
Watching this from my microsoft duo. Which is a bummer microsoft is abandoning because it literally is intended to be all 3 of those things. It's weakest as a phone but way better as a phone than an iPad mini since it was intended to be one. Great vid, and with the impending doom of the duo the iPad mini may be my next portable computing device. No screen extension to a second monitor is a huge negative for me though. It's what I loved most about the Microsoft Duo vs standard folding single displays. The dual screen forward approach with additional video out capabilities.
Actually used a Huawei M3 LTE 5 years ago as my phone and laptop replacement. Loved it and used it for 2 years. Now I’m back into the Apple ecosystem and it’s okay but thinking about getting a mini to use as my only computer but still use my iPhone. I think this will be a better system then an all in one. Small capable portable devices :)
Usb c to 3.5mm, then not restricted to speaker phone. Also could use Assistance setting to see voice to text. Resolution okay , can use magnifier in some instances. 11:41 not best but useable 😂.
Nice video. I have been doing this for over 5y with my $129 8" samsung tablet, alcatel hotspot, google voice, and bluetooth keyboard. I use mostly wifi free at my home and office, and hotels. my hotspot is $16/mo unl data mvno (non mint). no problem with dropping, losing, out of icloud storage errors, as I have a 256gb SD card slot in my tablet. one of the many reasons why i gave up on iOS devices, no storage, no USB-C standardization, and too expensive and breaks easily.
My biggest and only issue with the iPad mini is that it does not support stage manager. I’ve gotten so used to it on my m1 iPad Air I have trouble using my mini anymore.
I am currently exploring the same idea, but with Android devices. I've used Fold 2 and 3, and they are really, really good phones, but to be able to trully replace the laptop, you need more screen real estate, so I am currently going with Galaxy Tab S9 as my only device. Samsung doesn't restrict you from making calls from their tablet, and DeX mode is there, so it's quite a bit easier than iPad Mini. Hopefully, this year Apple will release a macos for their bigger ipads, and bumpup iPad Mini to the M-series, we'll find out soon enough.
The video explores using the iPad Mini as a phone, tablet, and computer replacement, but it is not recommended to use it as the sole device for all computing needs. It performs tablet functions well, phone functions just okay, and computer functions not so great. The future of having one device serve multiple roles may not be too far off with the potential of foldable devices and Apple silicon chips.
I did the phone portion of this about eight years ago with an iPad mini. I used Google voice 100% of the time, and never used a phone, ever. I am considering going back to that set up because I am about to start traveling 100% of the time. Keep in mind, I will have a separate mobile 5G Internet source that will allow for more data per month. So, this video makes me happy because the idea is still possible.
8:15 How about installing a bidet and moving away from that dirty paper thing? And why is calling and texting not allowed on your ipad? Is this a US only issue?
I've done this with the iPad 5 some years ago. Used Google voice for calls and text. What I don't like was that you can't connect your apple watch you need an iPhone.
Thank you very much for your youtube work - this is info and advice for the common user and not for teccies or wannabe teccies and explained in way that an ordinary computer user can comprehend.
Great vid. Couple of questions. 1. What’s the bag that you showed the iPad going into? 2. Does Google voice work outside US? 3. Can I use the same VoIP number on my iPhone too? 4. Does the VoIP line work with the Apple Watch if I just want to go out with my watch?
I've had a GoogleVoice number as my main number for over a decade. So I've used all ipads and all Android tablets as phones. I always get the cellular models 😊 I do have a ZFold also. Works awesome as a computer using a tv for the screen.
Honestly, having a galaxy z fold wins this competition as a phone and can be unfolded to a tablet and can connect to a monitor to provide a desktop experience. The galaxy z fold is one perfect for this type of challenge
Edit: the bathroom issue … the sink tops in both of my bathrooms are close enough to the toilet to be able to set it there. And if I’m out in public, I just leave it in my bag. I’m looking to replace cable tv, internet and phone. I already have an iPad mini, but my daughter’s iPad needs replacing, so I was considering getting an iPad with wireless to use as a phone. But after watching your video, I should probably just go with an iPhone. Also going to check out Mint mobile, because my other daughter wants a real phone number. This is so helpful! Many thanks!
I've had the same problem. If you don't need the apple ecosystem then you'd be happy using this one : samsung tab active 3 It's a phone It's a tablet You can use a pen! Great all in one mobile handset!
how much screentime or battery back up are you getting, my iPad mini started bleeding charge all of a sudden without any software updates. earlier i used to get 3-4 days without charging and moderate usage but now hardly 1-2 days and battery history shows safari and home screen apps have consumed battery
Thanks for this. I really want an ipad mini to get rid of my 2 phones and ipad. I want everything to be stored in a single device while not giving up the functionalities of an ipad. The ipad mini 6 will be perfect. Hoping to get one soon
This is what I've been dreaming of for years. One device for everything. For more specific tasks, connecting to the display should be sufficient. I think there are mobile processors powerful enough for this today.
Whatever the case, I live my iPad mini 6. I feel like I just don’t utilize it as much as I could. Hope to get a lot of wear on it. I’m considering a keyboard soon so I can blog easily on the go. Thanks for the video.
A neat experiment, but while the iPad Mini is probably the BEST all-in-one device and I loved having one in high school, I’ll stick with phone/tablet/laptop/desktop, all four with different functions. Have an iPhone XR that makes up 90% of my smart device usage outside the home, an iPad Air 5 that’s responsible for about half my in-home tech usage, a 2019 Windows laptop that both does laptop things my iPad Air can’t and also does Windows things an Apple product can’t, and a 2014 Windows desktop that still is great for gaming today. They all have their use cases that can’t quite be filled if I try to get an all-in-one device. (Also, for toilet usage - same as my phone, when I had an iPad Mini 2 I just held it in my right hand while I wiped with my left. Not that difficult)
Same exact boat. Same devices as you. All irreplaceable. Love my XR btw! Amazed it’s still hanging in there all these years. Bought a mini… can’t find a real good use for it. The air handled my multimedia stuff in-home perfectly.
@aryaa4581 I actually found a solution since I made that comment - about 10 months ago I bought an older Z Fold as a trial run to see if it acratched the same itch as an iPad Mini without making me carry two devices, and it actually did. Plus it turned out I liked Android better than IOS, so now I have a Z Fold 6, Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, Galaxy Watch 7, and Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. All in all they cost about $2000, _including_ the trial Z Fold, so really the Z Fold sticker price is misleading, just gotta look for deals. If you're interested in an iPad Mini but not interested enough to carry it at the same time as a phone, and you're not completely locked into the Apple ecosystem/like trying new things, you might like a Z Fold. "The screen is bigger" isn't inherently that big of a plus depending on what you're doing with it, but it's dramatically better for viewing and filling out PDFs (something I do fairly often in college), great for desktop versions of websites, great for running multiple apps at once, and I can't think of anything offhand that's not at least a little better on a Z Fold compared to a typical phone (aside from the durability, but I've never personally had a problem with that). Plus the outer screen when folded is narrow enough to be comfortable for one-handed typing like the iPhone Mini/SE. Totally fair if you don't want to spend a minimum of $700 on a device that's easier to break than most phones, but if you've got the money and were thinking of upgrading anyway, I don't think a better phone exists.
I have had tons of iPads over the years in all specks and sizes. The Mini is by far my favorite
Haha did not expect to see Brandon here!
No one ever considers bathroom logistics
Some of us do mate , I have pocket I made out of the outdoor sun blinds material attached to my shitter door .
It fits magazines, tablets up to 14 inch no problems.
You have to have these luxuries in life mate 😊.
Winner. And so true. My iPad Mini always joins me on my throne. I have a laundry basket right there to just place it when its time.
more fiber. it’ll change your life.
Lmao
Toilet gang rise up

Amazing
So now you can work whenever wherever you are, but you can not play normal (not mobile) games :(
When you have only these 3 devices, you know you getting older 😅
@@nandihalm7651 I don't play heavy games anymore.
give me money to get ippad mini :
Wow! I am definitely impressed!
Yeah , dex is handy mate , although i must confess i rarely use it now , Im old and i dont get out much , when it first came out with the galaxy S8 series , i bought the phone and dock , and about the same time my PC carked it , so i thought i will give dex ago , which back then was very new and somewhat unrefined and a little buggy , but still very workable with the odd work around , and dex became my home computer for the next 1.5 years , and for general duties even then on a phone with 4 Gb of ram , it was actually pretty darn good , i supplemented it with Multi USB hub and had wired mouse , wired keyboard , and i ran android , as well as chrome , and i could have about ten tabs open from memory , and all the while it was in the dock it was charging the phone ,
i also had a choice of using BT speakers , wired external speakers or the monitor speakers , or i could use the speaker on the phone which surprisingly was quiet loud because the fan vent in the dock that also kept the phone cool directed the sound from the single bottom speaker upwards , i dont know if that was by design from samsung or fluke :) , but it was not bad at all .
Try out the Fold 4, BIG difference.
i tried using dex once and never again, to me its really not that great
unfortunately only m1 ipads have proper monitor support at present
I loved DEX on my S7, albeit I didn’t use it frequently. Still, it was great using it and the multitasking was good.
The prices of foldables are just disgusting right now. I’ve thought about the same thing honestly
However, the battery life is really good
I also used to use the iPad as my main laptop (2021). Here are the biggest issues
- no NTFS support (I can't use flash drives that were formatted for Windows)
- most apps don't have good keyboard shortcuts (makes you work slower)
- at the time Lumafusion was the only editor and it wasn't advanced enough for my needs (I managed to get my gaming channel to 1000 subscribers though)
- Microsoft office *SUCKS*
- stage manager didn't exist so I spent lots of time swapping between apps and waiting for them to reload
- the way iPad handles audio sucks (e.g. it will mute music if I scroll past an Instagram post that has sound)
Cheers
This is the kind of video I've been wanting for a while, thanks!
What’s the name of it? I just got a iPad pro
8:15 luckily in the bathroom in my house, the basin & bath are within arms reach on the toilet. I'll just lay it on the ledge
Lol same. Ledge of the tub is perfect 😂
I hope they keep it around.
do you think ipad mini 7 on its way? the jelly screen issue is a deal breaker for me.
I have the mini 5 rn and I'm so jealous of the 6 and all it's new features. The screen. The speakers. The case. The pencil 2. The flash and camera. Ugh. It's such a better ipad.
I miss my 5 but your right the sound is better and the camera is actually good lol
I use the mini as a portable library. Best size and form factor for eBook reading. For me at least. 😊
Until 2019 it was actually still doable in android . I used a Samsung galaxy Tab A8 with SPen gens 1&2 from 2015-2019. A friend also did the same with her Samsung galaxy tab S2 8 inch. Sadly now there are no good 8 inch Android tablets
WOW!!! I can't get over how powerful and useful the iPad mini could be.
The iPad mini has been an awesome addition to my daily activities. I haven't used it as a phone but I do use it as an auxiliary monitor with my macbook. The best thing is that I use it as a whiteboard or to show circuit analysis sims when using zoom. With the "share via airplay" option in zoom, I bring up Multisim Live or EveryCircuit on my iPad mini and can share that without setting up a different camera or having to hold my iPad mini up to the camera.
u can use shift screen for the desktop setup as it helps in multitasking by getting extended display
Really good video, I think the Samsung fold does all three to an extent
If you have Citrix/remote desktop at work and office 365 it actually works quite well in many respects for certain things where iOS isn’t sufficient/suitable.
8:35 sit it on the edge of the tub. Most tub edges are thick enough it won’t fall.
Amazing!
most issues you mention seem to be solvable quite easy. the phone restrictions are quite arbitrary and can be solved with software (by apple), the tablet size is actually perfect for many applications like reading or note taking and if the mini gets a new chipset in the future it can make a decent desktop replacement. only as a laptop it‘s very compromised due to the small screen. i see a bright future for the ipad mini ❤
You can use the magnetic case to hang it on most metal doors, like public stalls at work
Can the mini be unlock… Thank you for the video… also for bathroom in ikea an aluminum 6 inch rail for kitchen plates and Make a whole in the center and mounted to the wall in front of the toilet and it can hold up to a 16 inch monitor
Kindly, Drmikekuna share a link or a name for your folding keyboard. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I tried ipad air and phone combo. Not a replacement as pc still has its uses online and full software usage
It shouldn't be hard to imagine because you already have it. Samsung Dex? S PEN?
I wonder if you could call it a 'Phablet' ?
The review about using it in the bathroom was the best I've ever seen in my life, great!
Does this only work in the America? How does it work in the UK?
What bag was that you are carrying the iPad in?
10:19 making a boy with the word "boy"
What a classic.
Samsung DEX mode is a game changer
Do some carriers block voice over IP?
Great vid. Couple of questions.
1. What’s the bag that you showed the iPad going into?
2. Does Google voice work outside US?
3. Can I use the same VoIP number on my iPhone too?
4. Does the VoIP line work with the Apple Watch if I just want to go out with my watch?
I live in Sao Paulo brazil. Use Google Voice all the time. One trick is to use a VPN... hint, hint.
ah forgot... is only good if calling US or Canada... unless other person has GV.
We rarely use iMessage or Facetime here, WhatsApp is more common. If only I could pair my Watch Ultra with the iPad mini, then it would be complete
+ AirPods
I've had a GoogleVoice number as my main number for over a decade. So I've used all ipads and all Android tablets as phones. I always get the cellular models 😊 I do have a ZFold also. Works awesome as a computer using a tv for the screen.
Very interesting. Will it work on Verizon network? Verizon Sim Card? Im willing to take the challenge of using as a phone. Many thanks
Honestly, having a galaxy z fold wins this competition as a phone and can be unfolded to a tablet and can connect to a monitor to provide a desktop experience. The galaxy z fold is one perfect for this type of challenge
Yes but a fold in the screen is ugly viewing and two screens to break is annoying and expensive.
The z fold 4 screen will collapse/break like 10 times before ipad mini 6 screen ever get a scratch
Props for talking about the bathroom use. I doubt any other UA-cam in tech even considered it
Awesome video. Makes me feel old, I did this for about a year when the very first iPad mini came out.
Alternatives to Google Voice outside US?
Shame google voice isn't available in the UK, as that's an interesting concept
Really well made video! I like the colour scheme of your room.
Since I got my iPhone 15 Plus, I have used the natural transition to a new device, to stop using it on the toilet. Works perfectly. I do not miss it.
Does the esim work on any tablet to make a phone call like a mobile phone without struggling too much
What computer monitor were you using in the video when you connected the iPads?
I did that with the z fold.. Worked out great!
I need a software for my work that I can only get for a laptop. not available for any iPad, or tablet.
I've had the same problem.
If you don't need the apple ecosystem then you'd be happy using this one :
samsung tab active 3
It's a phone
It's a tablet
You can use a pen!
Had my iPad fall on my face too many times while reading in bed. Seriously considering switching to the mini for that reason alone 😂😅
Still only available in the US
I bought a tp holder with a tray on top… holds a roll of toilet paper or a phone or tablet. lol
It appears that Google Voice service is not available in the country where i reside.
I have a Z fold so It’s a tablet and a phone when I want to, better and much more powerful than most iPads
I installed a toilet paper holder with a shelf for flushable wipes that doubles for tablet and phone shelf.
This is what I've been dreaming of for years. One device for everything. For more specific tasks, connecting to the display should be sufficient. I think there are mobile processors powerful enough for this today.
Nice video, but I gotta ask: what’s that mouse you were using early in the vid? Looks like a Logitech model of some kind.
Totally fair if you don't want to spend a minimum of $700 on a device that's easier to break than most phones, but if you've got the money and were thinking of upgrading anyway, I don't think a better phone exists.
you forgot the main reason people use laptops i.e a big screen it is too small to do work with keyboard and mouse
by the way great video
