That is a very nice saw. (All most new) I used one like it for years (in my line up) cutting firewood. Small tip. During reassembly I would not use a power tool. It is very easy to cross-thread and strip the holes in the body of your chainsaw.
I’ve got one I bought new over 30 years ago! Had to replace chain break and fuel line. Cut tons of wood!! Outstanding saw, still use it today! Really no issues!
I made a complete rebuild this summer of an 038 super from 1990. Complete tear down, new bearings, shaft sealing rings, dampers, sealings, carburetor kit and all other rubber stuff. Now it's like new and In a few weeks it will see the wood first time after the rebuild. I'm so excited. Good job and enjoy your saw
I have the same saw. Dad bought new in 1991. Just put a new filter and spark plug - runs just like new. Here in Canada there is a acid based cleaner that Stihl makes. Works outstandingly. Quite strong actually, melts all the dirt but does not affect the paint or plastic. Wear gloves it will burn. how is the saw anyway?
I just grabbed a 038 mag II at a yard sale. Had sat under an old guys bench for years. Some fresh fuel and she fired right up. Next is to clean her up good, maybe a little bit porting and a 30 inch bar. Initial cost at garage sale, $20. Im happy. Lol
Bought a STIHL 034 AV ($465.00) back in 1987 when clearing my property. Still use it to this day, although now-a-days, it may go a year between starts... it only takes 2-3 pulls to fire up.
Just bought my first Stihl, a hardly used but dirty and stale 034 AV. So excited to do a breakdown and 1st ever carb service, so thanks for the great video for reference! Nice camera work and that air power cleaning looks scary for my delicate eyes. Also, I didn’t stay for the music, but can’t please anyone with music, I’m sure! Have subscribed, keep having fun!
I had a stihl AV 38 a 20 years old saw past on from my father to me it was a real legend of unimaginable power for a chainsaw truly high performance but ran its course
I can't get over how different you look from your bow drill video 6 years ago when I first subscribed (not in a bad way). Then again, I had a full black beard and now I'm halfway to being a silver fox. Time and change gets us all. Great video, as always, and keep it up brother!
Thing should go for a while, mine lasted close to 900 quard before the motor locked up solid. These and the older husky 61 are the best saws out there to run on a 18 to a 24 inch bar for milling. Go to 24 inch i recomend a skip tooth chain tho.
Excellent video thanks for sharing this. Excellent saw should bring you many years of service. Good buy on bar and chain as you don't see those everyday. Keep up the excellent work.
Thanks Wesley! A guy bought the bar and chain to send to his family in Mexico since it's hard to find parts there (Husqvarna saturated) but they decided on 20" bars instead.
My experience and my fathers both logging our whole life, Stihl has the power and performance but the reliability lacks compared to Huskys in cold weather. Even the colder weather kits don't seem to help... my experience that is. Still lovely saw!
I work up in a logging town and the old timers seem to love the husky saws for their vibration dampening. I like the Stihls because they are more straightforward for repairs in my opinion. I haven't used the Stihl in lower than 20f so I'll leave that to you folks
I got my uncle’s 038 magnum 2 after he died, hardly used, full wrap handle, runs great. It’s cool because it says made in west Germany on it. It complements my early 90s 066 nicely. Love old saws. Greetings from British Columbia 😎
Has you pulled that chain yet? How's it cut? I just rebuilt a 038 super swapped the top end to a mag top end ported pulling a 25 inch bar with rsf chain and a 8 pin sprocket and so far have sunk the whole bar into red oak and had no issues, cutting 8 inch pine takes 3 seconds on the timer. It pulls hard to say the least
I haven't cut anything with it yet. I'll be getting into firewood production once it cools down a little bit. The engine has a ton of compression. Sometimes feel like I'm going to break the cord
Stihl sells the original grey and orange paint at your local dealer.or they can order it.i will say the paint you have to let it set for a day or 2.dude you suck lol gettin props from youtube.whats the serial# start with on that saw?#1 is germany,#3 is brazil the outlaw saw.

I have one of these saw the Ms038 and two Ms381..Can't wait to restore it💪
Ive rebuilt and ported 2 of these saws. These things are torque monsters. They give you a heck of an arm work out too.
Facts
I can't believe I missed this somehow when it was posted. Hadn't ever heard of the 038 Magnum 2 before.
I just bought a used 038 Super and I cant wait to start using it. Loved this video!

Those torx heads are going to strip if you don't back off the drill a little bit sooner.
Just ran across vid. Nice job!

Dude, you stole that thing at $20!
Those old Sthil's are fantastic. Great project. Got to keep your hands solid on that beast. God bless.
You got that right!
I have the exact same saw. 28" bar. I just love it.
Noiceee

My stihl 034 was my first real chainsaw. That thing just keeps running
@@innerbarkoutdoors Noticed you haven't posted lately... hope all is well with you & your family.

Yeah the new saws don't hold a flame to these pre EPA restricted pro saws.
This makes me want to dig into my 441 that I bought off of a guy. Nicely done Andy!
Right on!

@Sven3xs Amen to that lol. I've even had 2 kids since I first subscribed to this channel.
Plus I work for "the man" now. Laaaaame!
Love the chain saw videos! Stihl is the best!
Glad you are liking the content - and yes, Stihl is the bomb

I used to own 1 of this beautiful machines.......It was my best so far....🤕
What became of it?

Nice 👍👍👍👍, always wear proper clothing when operating outdoor power equipment safety vialation, but good work 👍👍👍👍👍,, Sthil is#1
Thanks 👍
I didn't know these were rare and vintage. Me and my buddy each have one that we run.
You have the magnum 2? I know anlog of guys have the super and the magnums, and a lot of the standard 38s are still used by homeowners

Found you from TikTok.
Hello!
Checking in, hows the saw running? Slapped a 32 on mine with skip now and did a bit of port work last fall and it woke up like a mad man now
The saw is running well! Once we get some more snow melted at the cabin we will be going WOT on some trees.

A lot more than 8 cords through that saw…
I have a couple cords and a few trees through it by now. I love this saw for hazard trees because it's so fast.
Outstanding job, buddy! Although watching you fire that thing up in nothing but t-shirt, shorts, and socks was a bit unnerving. Safety first! LOL
:)
Awesome video, paint looks great! Subscribed and will follow on IG
Thanks brother!
What is the price of this particular saw if someone were to buy one?
😒😒😒
Let me sharpen it see what it do 😈😈😈
*thumbs up*

1. Get a life 2. Don’t let a video of someone you don’t know bother you so much :)
You should change the title because you didn't actually restore the saw
Eat sawdust
