      Ricardo del toro How about, he's just another politician trying to buy votes by promising to give something away for free. He's buying votes from students. He's guaranteeing job security for a boatload of teachers who might be afraid the internet will take away their jobs. He's pandering to the fear and greed of both students and teachers.

    It honestly makes me want to cry just knowing that this guy, this 70 some year old guy, is out there fighting for the youth, the future of this country. Unless you are a young person that has gone through college or is going into college, you'll never understand the huge burden of college debt. That's not to say that you don't have other debts that are just as bad, it's just throughout high school, teachers preached "college, college, college. Get a higher educaton!" We were all pretty much destined for it. But they might as well have preached "DEBT DEBT DEBT" cause that's what we were destined for. To put ourselves and our families in debt. I was forced to go to a junior college, where I still feel like I'm getting a high quality education, but I feel as if I'm missing out on the social experiences of college life. Dorm life, meeting new people, breaking out of that high school bubble. Exploring new things. Stuff like that. The fact that Bernie is out there fighting for quite possibly the greatest and most capable generation ever is really inspiring and it brings tears to my eyes. Thank you Mr. Sanders. Regardless of what happens with this bill, thank you for fighting for the future generations.

      +The Best Happy Men He was talking about this shit 50 years ago, LONG before anyone was going to vote for someone supporting free college. All of the issues he has been consistent on. When he gave a speech advising against going to war with Iraq he said that all of the money we would inevitably waste (just a btw he basically predicted the entire outcome of the Iraq war, right down to the creation and growth of groups like ISS) should go to the revitalization of the middle class and free college tuition instead. Check your facts before spewing nonsense.

      Yezdyar Kaoosji It should receive a unanimous vote, but it won't. Electing a president like Bernie Sanders is a great start to fixing the problems that plague our country, but for it to really work we need a Senate and House that are also like Bernie, instead of a Senate and House that have been bought off by the corporations and 1%ers.

  • @dsofe4879

    Its incredible how many people in America actually oppose this. What is even more incredible are the arguments they bring up against it. We can't pay for it? Oh, but we don't mind corporations evading corporate tax by parking their assets offshore and we don't mind allowing our stock exchanges to irresponsibly speculate at no cost, causing bubbles and crashes as they go. We also don't mind billionaires paying lower effective taxes than their middle-class employees, but heaven forbid we help the general population with affordable education and healthcare for all. That's "communist" and "unamerican". And the saddest part is that the same people spewing that nonsense are themselves part of the suffering middle class, only have they been indoctrinated by Fox News and the likes.

      Like Arek said, there will always be unemployed people, the employment rate will never be 0%. I would much rather see unemployed college graduates than people who never got the chance to go to college or are struggling to pay outrageous rates for corporations to hoard and make ridiculous profits.
      Just because everyone went to college for free doesnt mean they won't find a job. It would make everyone more applicable to ANY job. And would provide an educated public.
      If it helps just one single person take the opportunity to make a better life for themself or obtain medical care they otherwise couldn't afford then it would be worth it.
      Meanwhile the millionaires are still just as rich, but have to pay a small fee when making enormous stock transactions.

    This is a good idea. We want an educated populace to be competitive for the job market of tomorrow. China will soon pass us over for being the biggest economy. This means that all of this profit we are making through our massive financial sector will go down tremendously in the future. People will start using their currency and assets etc. (macro-economics 101).
    We need more educated people to create and fill technical and high level jobs. Free education isn't just good for the people, it is also good for the country.

    If we do not educate out own people we better just export them over to China or India where they can get jobs because they will get nothing here in the US.
    Seriously, when the world got complicated enough we had a school system and people had to get a high-school education. Now people need more than that, and our economy needs investment so we can quit sending jobs and salaries overseas.
    We have to quit the dumbing down of Americans and stop letting it that the only people who get education and connections to the job force be the very rich. It doesn't make sense to keep dumping on the American people. Also, when there is a little competition from the government in higher education the costs of private school will come down too.

      ss4vegeta1 He had this to say in the article here: www.vox.com/2015/5/20/8628901/bernie-sanders-redditt The specific answer Senator Sanders gave was this: "Our legislation not only would make tuition free at public colleges and universities, it would also cut student debt in half. It is absurd that millions of college graduates today are carrying debts of $50,000, $60,000, $100,000 or more. Our legislation deals with the issue of student debt in a very significant way." So, the details are not there, but it shows that he's concerned and wants to get this issue resolved.

    • @WinginWolf
      @WinginWolf 9 років тому

      Bruce Johnson Half of a kazillion is a bajillion. Cutting it in half would be a relief, but someone who has $100K in debt I would assume would be in the position of someone who had $50K in debt...which is still a large amount. Capping the amount of interest a loan could accumulate at 10% of the original (or liberally, 5%) would be a start if they wouldn't cut it in half.
      Funny, a lot of debt accumulated is also because of housing and amenities, yet there's been no word on that. Perhaps make all housing equal in the future and include housing in the tuition bill?

Bernie may not be ready to say "forgive the debt" just yet, but once he is in office, I am sure he could be persuaded.

    Don't forget to crack down on private student loans, also. The Government said my family has an income that is too high for aid. They can't afford to pay my college, so I have to do it myself. I am with Discover Student Loans, and over the life of each of my loans for each year I take out money, I will have paid 80,000 dollars over the life of the loan which was for 23,000 dollars in the first place. I have an 11% interest rate and a 47,000 dollar finance charge tied on to each loan. Four years times 80,000 dollars. This is for an undergraduate degree in meteorology and Spanish. Yet banks can borrow money at a 0.75 percent interest rate. Wow, I wish I were a bank! Bernie Sanders for president! #feelthebern

    The other conservative candidates of this election have it all wrong. The foundation this country was founded upon no longer is relevant in todays society. Times change, and the law has to change with it. The founding fathers themselves were progressives. If it wasn't for their conflicting views to the British, we would not exist today. If it wasn't for their sacrifices in daring to oppose the status quo, this country would not exist. If these beliefs conflict with tradition and are for the betterment and happiness of the citizens of this country, it is our duty to follow them. The founding fathers themselves wouldn't want this country to be stuck in a rut. They wouldn't want us to be stuck with their values in a society that can't support them. They would want us to follow how things have become and make people happy. Screw tradition if these beliefs conflict with them. Then we can actually progress as a people and not be chained by our pasts.President Sanders.
    President Bernie Sanders.
    Has a nice ring to it.

    Everyone deserves an education. It's that simple. I've had to put my college education on hold because I am already thousands in debt and just can't afford to continue. I hope Bernie wins the primary. I'll vote for Hillary if she wins it, but she is too moderate. I think she simply wants to be president and ruffle as few feathers as possible, unlike Bernie, who actually wants change.

    Would free or low cost university/college only be for young people or would it be for all ages of people? There is social value in 30-100 year old people going back to school or starting and getting degrees and learning, being engaged, acquiring knowledge etc.. It always gets my attention how they always say "youths" or "young people" because a person is never too old to improve and learn or reach a higher potential. There could be people who dropped out of college when young because they were not ready, immature,had breakdown or lacked direction and then later in life want to return and are ready and more capable of being focused.
    Also some people never went to college when younger...so I think college should be free for all and not just "Young people" fresh out of high school. Lets value younger people by valuing their older selves by not putting a limit on them in life based on age. It is like we say "we care about you until you are 24, if you are not successful within this small window of time when you are inexperienced and not fully developed, prone to making poor decisions, then you are on your own." Lets invest in all people and then the investment will pay off in a more cultivated, educated, aware, happy healthy,informed,engaged populace of all ages who can contribute in bigger and smaller ways and reach higher personal potentials through education and training.
    One other thing I think is important to note is that education and people going to school generates an economy, like in centers of education you have shops, book sellers,cafes human activity and traffic not to mention all the direction of money going to educational supply and manufacturers ..like text book makers and writers, pencil/pen /notebook,tool,instrument distributors.The money always flows somewhere and if it is directed toward education then it is going to go to teachers,school faculty and all that goes into upkeep and organization of campuses.

      TommySnoB SBDC That is a pretty simplistic sounding platitude. Of course we are a better,smarter higher quality society when we ensure young people have the best education possible,but that does not mean we throw people away after 25. WE should have free quality education for people of all ages and that will pay off the most rather than just reserving it for the young who often times drop out, or delay college, or who change career choices later in life. Also knowledge and learning is important to cultivating people of all ages so that there is more life satisfaction, opportunity and less ignorance overall.

    We do NOT need an educated population with college or even schooling!
    Employers need to start hiring more people based on training, skills, and talent instead of pieces of paper and test scores.

      ***** Another smart comment. I fear my engineering career (once I finish) will mean nothing to employers because of my shitty GPA and lack of excellence and "barking orders" (leadership). Ironic that a $50000+ degree could mean nothing to employers. Something /that/ expensive should GUARANTEE a job, or my money back.

      Employers need to reduce their standards. Credential inflation is also a problem along with tuition prices.

    Here's your education for the Day... Robin Hood was nothing but a THIEF. He STOLE!. Nice example for a Hero, huh...? The way to make College affordable is NOT to make it "Free", or STEAL Other People's Money to pay for it. The way to make it affordable is to bring price's down. If you can't afford it, you can't pay for it. Sounds simple enough. And if no one goes there, they go out of business. The way to stay in business is to provide an affordable product, in this case and affordable education.
    I have personally seen products come and go simply because the retail price was too high. The ONLY way to make it successful is to make it affordable. You DON'T make it affordable by FORCING somebody else to pay for it! That only maintains the high cost that makes it UN-affordable. Do the Math, Bernie. Don't bring up foreign affairs as examples. AMERICA was made to go forward, not take two steps backwards by copying what they were trying to get away from in the first place.

    I hope all of you watching this will register as democrats in order to vote in the democratic primary. for those of you that are unfamiliar with the political process, Bernie needs to first win the democratic primary before he can run as the democratic candidate for president. you cannot vote in the primary unless you are registered as a democrat!

  • @SuperAppleFanatic1
    @SuperAppleFanatic1 9 років тому

    How are you going to pay for it?
    The common answer will be, "Tax!"
    Think about that for a second. Ok, we tax the people to pay for college education. Now what? You've just hurt the people who you're trying to help, and you're helping the people that don't need the help. The lower class would suffer from the higher taxes, and the upper-middle, and upper classes would be getting help, the people who don't necessarily need help are now getting help over the people who really do need the economic help of a free college education.
    "But," you might say, "Let's cut spending on something!" Yea. Good luck with that. The Republicans don't want to lower spending on anything but entitlements, and the Democrats don't want to lower spending on anything but national defense. Have fun making a compromise, and I won't get into the details on who I think is right or wrong right now.
    So, you're helping the rich, and punishing the poor, which no party wants, as far as I know, in American politics. College Education cannot be free because you're just hurting the American People, and that's not fair to anyone.
    Secondly, not everyone needs a college education. If I want to be a professional welder, I don't need a four-year degree, I need to go to vocational school. Not all jobs and careers need a college degree. Some may say, "but the well paying jobs need a college degree!" Not necessarily. Underwater Welders make on average, approximately $54,750. That's higher than the average income for the average american person. They can also make approximately $93,910 if they're good enough. That's good money, and all you need is 3-years of vocational school, no college degree, and just job experience. College is not a necessity, not everyone needs it. A free college education would hurt the American Economy by further emphasizing the stereotype that everyone needs a college education to be successful.
    That's why college education can't be free. We can't think like we live in a perfect world of butterflies, rainbows, and happiness. The world is not fair, we have to get used to it. And we can't make the world a perfect, utopian world. That was tried, and I don't want to live in Communism. To make the world perfect would require you to change human nature, and you can't do that. Have fun trying, but it only leads to suffering.

    • @SuperAppleFanatic1
      @SuperAppleFanatic1 8 років тому

      Yes, I do, and most of the upper class still works for their money. Most of their income would be taxed more heavily under Sander's policy, which means they do have less money to spend, which will ruin the economy when there's no more incentive to be wealthy.
