  • Some 50 or 60 years ago, you could attend major public colleges and universities in America virtually tuition-free. That was America back then. If we could do it 60 years ago, we can do it today.

You realize the issue here isn't free something at tax payers expence, which will eventualy be your expence to pay for some other kids tuition. Politicians love playing Santa clause. Gets votes. But their is no free lunch buddy. The issue is colleges charging to much. Why? They didn't in the 70s?. Because government got involved like they did daycare. Because they are willing to pay way more then you and me (Easy come easy go) the price of things for that market skyrocketed. College isn't competing with what YOUR ABLE AND WILLING TO PAY, no rather it sets prices on what GOVERNEMT and your money is willing to pay. And because government is always willing to pay 50000 for a hammer the prices reflect that.
So you say great to free college may help you right now sure. But what if you learn you will pay 3 times more threwout your life paying for somebody else's in heightened taxes to pay for all this FREE stuff? Worth it then? Perhaps we need less governemt jumping the prices and more what people can and are willing to pay? Same goes for helathcare. Soon as governemt got involved guess what?? Prices went from affordable to 1 million dollars for a simple surgery. These facts cannot be denied by those who study economics at college which clearly you don't. Remeber this,,,, THEIR OS NO FREE LUNCH. Whenever they say free ask yourself, where will the money come from to pay for this??? You will always find out its you. Except that you're exactly incorrect. Anyone who doesn't realize that most college is stupid is dangerously ignorant. It's been studied. Higher education is a massive waste of time and resources, and doesn't make people happier, more productive, nothing. It only conforms to social desirability bias and the best thing that it does is help people craft contacts for their careers. Wasting time and resources isn't necessary to creating contacts. Even primary education is a waste of time and resources. Only "feels" that way to someone who is too stupid to study the reality of Bernie's utopian bullshit. His preferred policies are literally the CAUSE of many of the problems you idiots claim to aim to fix. Welfare destroyed the black family and created a pool of perpetually impoverished, government backed college created this exact college loan "crisis," government housing policy created the housing crisis, and medicare/medicaid created the "healthcare crisis" which exacerbated the "healthcare crises" and even progressives admit that shit didn't work, but the problem is that their solution is ALWAYS to double down. If you haven't noticed or questioned that pattern of leftist policy not fixing a problem, then the problem getting worse, then you're a dangerously ignorant or stupid person.

@@324cmac First of all, his policies fixed nearly nothing. Read actually economic theory and studies about it.
More importantly re-election doesn't mean they fixed any problems at all. Popularity isn't derived from sound policy. People vote for things they like, not what's best for them. People are just animals responding to incentives, it's one of the well known problems with elected governance. This has been a known fact for at least 2300 years. If you don't realize something that basic, I'm not sure your opinion on it matters.
Votes don't make prosperity. Policy doesn't make prosperity. The only thing that creates prosperity is sound production of marketable goods and services. FDR's policies were straight malinvestment, that prolonged, rather than cured the depression. It created a hollow, weak economy based on goods and services that were not demanded by consumers, but demand purely created by the government. It was part of the genesis of the marriage between profit seeking entities and the government. Something no leftist should champion, but you all do for ignorance and lack of principle.

BUT while I think that community or technical colleges should be free, I feel you do need to pay the rest if you want to transfer after 2 years at Tech and then get your bachelor's and/or master's at a 4 year college. But college tuition does need to be more affordable. Also, do we just cancel the debt of those who used the money and didn't complete the program, or cancel it for those who graduated?

Senator Sanders, I saw your hearing about shortage of doctors & healthcare professionals. I’d like to share 2 reasons why I think youngster avoid choosing this path.
    1. Very long, arduous educational path. In India, there are excellent medical professionals and yet the system entails only about 7 years from high school to being a fully practicing doctor. In USA, it is 10 year from high school to fully being able to practice.
    2. Apart from the number of years, the cost of college education, esp for a field such as medicine, turns out to be expensive. This leads to professionals having endless debts & their only goal becomes making profit, rather than service to society.
    Please consider these. Thank you!

Ukraine: Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera honored in Kiev with the complicity of the European Union, which refuses to vote for the resolution condemning Nazism at the UN.
The year is off to a bad start in Ukraine where a law will soon be passed allowing the regions of Ukraine to arm "nationalist" militias despite the country having a national army! An army, it is true, equipped by NATO, largely financed by the European Union and trained by the United States, which has thus deployed its soldiers on Ukrainian soil. This news is all the more disturbing when we consider the activities of these militias openly nostalgic for the Third Reich and its Ukrainian collaborators, terrible and sinister performers of the Shoah and the bloody repressions against the Yugoslav resistance fighters.
This January 1st, it was the cry of "OUR RELIGION IS NATIONALISM!" OUR PROPHET IS STEPAN BANDERA! ” that a crowd gathered at Taras Shevchenko Park in honor of the 112th birth anniversary of Stepan Bandera, leader of the OUN-UPA, lackey of the Hitler fascists.
Participants carrying torches and flags bearing the effigy of neo-Nazi organizations. While at the head of this nauseating procession was displayed a banner reproducing an extreme right-wing slogan calling on Bandera to come back from the dead to establish order in Ukraine….
Bandera was the leader of the OUN, a far-right organization and its armed wing (UPA) which actively collaborated with the Nazis and fought Poland's Krajowa Army, the partisans resisting in Yugoslavia with Tito and the Red Army in Ukraine, Belarus and Poland. The UPA is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of people, mainly women and children from Poland, Galicia and Volyn in a horrific campaign of ethnic cleansing. And she also took part in the genocide of the Jews. Protected by the West, Bandera fled to Munich, where he was assassinated in 1959. Russia, Poland, Israel, and many other countries regard Bandera as a war criminal.
While the countries of the European Union refused to vote for the UN resolution condemning Nazism, in Ukraine - as in the Baltic countries - the European Union continues to support the rehabilitation of the Nazis ... and to criminalize through anti-communism virulent liberators of Europe from fascism, the Red Army. Because it is not only in Kiev that the neo-Nazis parade in the streets in the complicit silence of the European Union which sprinkles billions of subsidies on the regime it set up in favor of the coup d'état. Euromaidan. This is also the case in the Baltic States. While in Poland, it is the Red Army war memorials that are being demolished! And if the EU countries, including France, refuse to vote for the UN resolution condemning Nazism, the European Parliament adopted in 2019 a resolution criminalizing ... communism

The intention is good, but I seriously doubt you can get people to accept a 0.5% tax on stock trades, among other things. Households earning $125,000 a year are paying for their children's education, though they may need to take loans. Focus your efforts, be incremental. Community colleges, low-income households. Change takes time unless there are catastrophic conditions that demand revolution. Status quo has worked for the US and will continue to until climate change forces us into difficult choices.

The UN adopts a resolution condemning Nazism, the countries of the European Union and the USA vote ... against.
From Manilo Dinucci - il manifesto, French translation by MAP. The Third Committee of the United Nations - in charge of social, humanitarian and cultural questions - approved on November 18 the Resolution “Struggle against the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fueling contemporary forms of racism, discrimination racial, xenophobia and related intolerance ”.
The Resolution recalling that “it was in particular the victory then won over Nazism that led to the creation of the United Nations, called upon to prevent new wars and to preserve future generations from this scourge”, raises an alarm against the spread of neo-Nazi, racist and xenophobic movements in many parts of the world. She says she is "deeply concerned about the glorification, in whatever form, of the Nazi movement, neo-Nazism and former members of the Waffen-SS organization." She goes on to stress that "neo-Nazism is not just the glorification of a historical movement, but that it is a contemporary phenomenon." Neo-Nazi movements and others like them “fuel contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, Christianophobia, xenophobia and related intolerance”.
With this resolution, the UN therefore calls on United Nations states to undertake a series of measures to counteract this phenomenon. The Resolution, already adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 18, 2019, was approved by the Third Committee with 122 votes in favor, including those of two permanent members of the Security Council, Russia and China. Only two members of the United Nations voted against: the United States (permanent member of the Security Council) and Ukraine. Certainly according to an internal directive, the other 29 NATO members, including Italy, abstained. The same goes for the 27 members of the European Union, 21 of which belong to NATO. Among the 53 abstentions are also Australia, Japan and other NATO partners.
The political significance of this vote is clear: NATO members and partners boycotted the Resolution which, while not naming it, directly implicates Ukraine, whose neo-Nazi movements have been and are being used by NATO for strategic purposes. There is ample evidence that neo-Nazi brigades were trained and used, under US / NATO management, in the Maidan Square putsch in 2014 and in the attack on the Russians in Ukraine to provoke, with the detachment of the Crimea and its return to Russia, a new confrontation in Europe similar to that of the Cold War.
Emblematic is the role of the Azov battalion, founded in 2014 by Andriy Biletsky, the “white Führer” in favor of the “racial purity of the Ukrainian nation, which must not mix with inferior races”.
After distinguishing himself with his ferocity, the Azov was transformed into the Ukrainian National Guard regiment, equipped with armor and artillery. What he has retained is his emblem, modeled on that of the SS Das Reich, and his ideological training of recruits modeled on that of the Nazis. The Azov Regiment is trained by US instructors, transferred from Vicenza to Ukraine, and others from NATO. The Azov is not just a military unit, but an ideological and political movement. Biletsky remains the charismatic leader especially for the youth organization, educated in hatred against Russians and trained militarily. At the same time, neo-Nazis are being recruited in Kiev from all over Europe, including Italy.
Ukraine has thus become the “breeding ground” for reborn Nazism in the heart of Europe. In this context comes the abstention of Italy, including in the vote of the Resolution at the General Assembly. The Parliament accepts, as when in 2017 he signed a memorandum of understanding with the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament Andriy Parubiy, founder of the Ukrainian National Socialist Party, on the Hitler National Socialist model, leader of the neo-Nazi brigades responsible for assassinations and fierce beatings of political opponents. It is he who will congratulate himself with the Italian government on the non-vote of the UN Resolution on Nazism, in line with what he said on television: “The greatest man who practiced direct democracy has summer Adolf Hitler ”.

The difference, between then, and now.. is while we were racing to use reverse engineering to create all new products to the world, and their long term chain of evolution. We are in a service based reality, with the leash on industry being tightened, as well as being sent overseas. They want less people, and more machines to do the work. They want built to fail engineering, not free to repair or upgrade. You cannot educate for free, when no one is going to move along after a short twenty years to let the small population of work forces to be refilled. And that is what it would take, Retirement that would work, for nearly another 40 years of life. That is the problem Bernie, you need to work within what is now, and what will be. Now.. if they restart with putting out newer technology from "questionable" sources, they will want it to be with far less ownership in the public sector. Do you see the failure here? IF they cant maintain a constant leech effect on the population at large.. then the population at large, will stop needing them or feeding them. And that will never happen. Not here, not under any form of govt.. Sorry, your reality with these things, requires a lot of the most moneyed individuals in history, to hand over the reigns, and the keys to the kingdom, and to permanently outlaw things like, Insurance and Corporations. Good luck with that ever happening.
