I remember watching this video when I was 19 and dreaming about the day I move to New York. Now, after finishing my undergraduate, I can say that day finally came! I am currently apartment hunting in Manhattan and am aiming to move in August. It feels like a dream that I am now watching this video for tips and good luck instead of a fantasy that one day this'll be me. Thanks Ashley! We miss you :(
I could soooo see Ashley become a house flipper in 10 years. She just has an eye for real estate and what works and what doesn’t (as we have seen in her fashion videos). I would buy a flipped house from her lol
Sanae Lahgazi- Alaou yikes, did not know. That sucks. Maybe an interior designer than! She just has such a good eye and I think she’d do well with houses. I love her taste, so I just want to see more inspo for my own life. But I’ll start looking into gentrification from house flipping so I’m better informed!
I love how you never introduce yourself in the intro or give a long intro about what you’re going to be talking about OR ask for subscribers, either at the beginning or the end. You truly stand out and give us what we came for --the hear all about your life and what your passionate about without any of the fluff. Biggest supporter since day one and we are with you no matter what! Stay safe girl, don’t worry if it offends anyone ♥️
I so remember that "I live in New York now" feeling and two years I still get it from time to time. Such a bummer that you moved here right before quarantine, but I promise New York will blow you away when she's open again!
For people looking to move to NYC and are ok with roommates: I moved here alone and found a place super easily on Roomi, it's super easy and you can set up a sublet or lease before you even move and they background check everybody in the apartment so it's safe and good for young ppl :)
Thanks for the tip Lucia! My sister also suggested the app so I’ll check it out :). Hope you’re living with awesome roommates and enjoying your time in New York :)
@@anajara7709 I only meant that once everyone was home all the time because of the lockdowns, it would be super loud and hard to record all the time. It seems like a super great apartment otherwise.

rewatching this and it makes me so sad that early 2020 ashley had such reasonable, warm, social hopes for her life post-move... i hope she's getting to have that fun safely
waiting for the day when ashley has made her clothing line and can afford to buy a vintage aesthetic-y studio just to film videos in, and then have a separate apartment for her cosy living vibes and finally get that good-good work life seperation/balance baby!
Lol I remember when she used to say 'good-good' all the time in her vids. Idk why that makes me feel kinda old or something. But I'm happy for her this was another great video :)
New York apartments makes me depressed .. most of them be narrow/small AF & not the best view ... I have too much stuff (I’m a fashion designer, photographer, content creator, etc) there’s just not enough room for me in most of those apartments 😅
This is only for apartments in that area of Manhattan since all the fashion & media influencers wanna live there, they can get away with renting out closets for $2000+. Most neighborhoods in NYC aren’t like this
I agree with you... Idc where it is, I’m not moving to a place with 200 sq ft. I visit New York but wouldn’t want to live in the cities. I prefer the outskirts. Plus there are way better, cheaper places to live even in terms of cities.
In 2020, we focusing on our mental health, building healthy relationships and also respecting Ashley's privacy by making sure no one tries to guess her address 💫
I love how candid you are about cost and pros/cons. For whatever reason people are so against sharing true cost of things and this has been so so helpful to me, a person not living in New York but a person looking to move somewhere nice and not wanting to get ripped off! Thank you for being so honest
I moved to Paris and I have such a great apartment but in the beginning I felt so sad because I don’t have that typical parisian apartment with the chimney and mouldings on the walls. But then I realised I had plenty of time to get this dream apartment, and it was gonna motivate me to study and get the job I want
Literally so relatable 😭 Like I've been looking for apartments for when I'm moving out to study this year and I'm still daydreaming about this one place that was already off the market by the time the landlord messaged me back hhhhh
really hoping ashley doesn’t go into a dusty musty bookstore, greeted by a handsome yet mysterious manager, charmingly flirt at the counter, go on her way, getting a lil sandwich from a nearby bodega on the way home, arrive at her house eager to film a new video, not knowing that the same bookstore manager is peering ever so slightly into the window of her apartment, being able to be seen just a tad in the frame of her viewfinder, only to be noticed by her when she edits ze video disclaimer - this wasn’t supposed to be creepy, it’s from a show ;)

@@raricoupe4020 Lived in New York for 20 years. Never really liked it. I think it's just too crowded, dirty and decrepit. It's nice to look at from above though, but that's it. I never got the hype about it. So many other great cities in the world. I found out eventually why I didn't like NY when I started visiting San Jose, CA and San Diego more. I liked those two cities' weather and since I am not a night owl and like nature, which those CA cities have in abundance, I knew it was just a matter of time before I left New York.
@@rijutamang7345 I like parts of Queens -- some areas of Jackson Heights, Forest Hills, Astoria. It's better than living in NYC with all the non-stop noise and sirens.

I thought the Chinatown apartment was sooooo nice I started screaming when you were like, “but the upstairs neighbor...” 😭😭😭 it was so beautiful!!! I’m sad you didn’t get it but also your NY apartment hunt was like a lesson to not settle for less than what you want
Sam Salsa this really was a lesson on not settling !! I’m moving to NYC this summer and this was sooooo helpful bc if I’d been in her place I would have definitely just gotten that apartment and been like “This is fine🙃”

as someone who has never been to the US whenever I heard her talking about the rent price I was like "oh sure, that seems affordable" then as soon as I made the convertion to my country's money I was like "HOT DAMN SIS, LIVING THE BOUGIE LIFE"
You guys it's not living bougie it's just trying to live. Our rent is absolutely atrocious especially in parts of New York and California. So many people have no choice but to pay the majority of their paychecks to their rent because rent is a scam. I don't even live in one of the more notorious cities in California and my parents pay half their paychecks to rent. Yeah she's definitely on the higher end because of the amount that she makes but for the amount that she's paying in a different city or in a different state she could be getting a ginormous house. Please don't think but that amount of money equals luxury because sometimes it just equals a roof over your head
SheLeaves I know, right? Poor old lady probably doesn’t have the option to move out because rent is too high. Has to settle for her bedbug infested apartment.
SheLeaves seriously!! I always try and chat with the folks that live in a place before I make any choices. “I’ve lived here for YEARS!” Usually is the phrase I look for.
SUKANYA PURTELL first of all, welcome to our family! Haha. She is a full time youtuber, has a jewellery business and is starting a clothing business. I’m pretty dure
Love that you sketched the blueprint of the apartments and put that red dot so we know what part of the flat we're seeing. Youre so good at what you do
When you said ‘north facing windows never get sunlight’ i remembered that Australia is literally on the other side of the world and that it’s the opposite here.
Literally I’m so glad that there are UA-camrs like her who will be transparent instead of like hiding how much money they make/ how much it costs to uphold their lifestyle
Stressful situations are a lot easier to handle when you have money to fall back on. Not shitting on her for having it, by no means, but it's not the most realistic scenario for the average person.
This makes me feel bad because I didn't move out because I am not willing to pay 500€ of rent per month for my own place 😅 and here she is paying 2000€
Sonja25997 wait.. are you from finland? (im guessing by your name that you are.) anyway, where do you find apartments that cheap? 😂 for what i know 500€ is not much for an apartment, at least in any city 🤔
She’s like “I need south facing windows for light” and I’m here with my south facing windows planning to install blackout curtains cause I like the cave vibe
The one in the west village literally looks like it’s looking over the west side story basketball court! Like just gives me the biggest west side story vibes
im in uni accomodation so rent is a bit cheaper p/w but £2000 is still like half a years rent for me😂😭 even if i wanted to live in new york i don’t think could ever afford that
nyc is expensive in general but the prices also depend on borough and location within them. For ex, an apt in washington heights (very northern manhattan) would be cheaper than one in williamsburg in brooklyn
finally a comment that says this!!! I'm looking at apartments atm that are 2 bedroom, separate kitchen/living room, right on the beach etc. for around $1000 USD/month here in Australia, and that seems expensive to me!!
Even though ashley has gotten so big over the years (wich she absolutely deserves) her whole channel and the community somehow still feel as cozy and familiar as they were when I first found her channel. ❤️
I was able to find a rent-stabilized, no broker fee, studio apartment in Manhattan with washer and dryer, and walk in closet, fully renovated in a new building for $1700 😍 never giving this up
Just a note from someone who’s rented in NYC twice: the broker fee is NOT required. There are plenty of units available to rent without having to pay a fee of several thousands. There’s current legislation in the works to ban broker’s fees too, just as a fun fact.
I just thought it was pretty stupid, especially because I live in Portugal. I know that here we are starting to get some apartments that the landlords ask for a guarantor, like a person who can pay up in case you can't. But a broker??? What does that person do that you and the landlord can't figure it out by yourselves?
Same here--I've moved six times (!) & never paid a broker's fee. You can filter by fee-free places until the law takes effect. They literally do nothing unless they're helping you cross-country, etc.
i love watching apartment hunting videos and i'm always so mad bc no other videos are ever as helpful or organized as ashley's are. she's really spoiled us huh

Ashley, I just wanna let you know that I LITERALLY, LITERALLY screamed when you went into your new apartment and said "I live in New York now" because I'm so happy for you! I've been a fan since the moment I watched your second room makeover when you were still in college and had roommates and seeing you grow especially career wise has been amazing and INSPIRING! I'm a '97 kid and I'm nowhere as independent as you and sometimes this fact saddens me especially seeing you so independent, while I'm stuck but you honestly motivates me to work harder . So what I'm trying to say is that you've gone such a long way and please be easy on yourself, take breaks and stop thinking you're not doing enough girl! Look at me! I'm still living with my parents (please don't judge) and still trynna get a job and figuring what I really wanna do as my career, so girl give yourself some slack and more breaks! Good job Ashley! You're seriously so inspiring! Keep on doing you and be you! Good luck and may life in New York be even more fun~!
@Nathasha aaaw thanks for the reply! This made me feel less alone too! hi! in the same boat as you two, same age :) also lost, school so far is the only thing that keeps me grounded. we will soon have our own places, i believe in us!🌹
Lost squad under your comment apparently, lmao. I'm also a 97 child, and only recently decided to enroll back in college (still living with my parents) to eventually be able to apply for jobs out of my state and move, which is my goal. A large amount of people around our age are still figuring life out; we hear about all these successful people because they are successful, but that's not the majority lol. No shame in getting your life together later than others might've :)
Pro tip if you have a small apartment is to get a loft bed, the bed takes up so much space in any room so with a loft you could use that space for something else 🙃

I could soooo see Ashley become a house flipper in 10 years. She just has an eye for real estate and what works and what doesn’t (as we have seen in her fashion videos). I would buy a flipped house from her lol
