i’m full asian, but i feel like you should never invalidate yourself for “not being asian enough” to wear traditional clothing. that being said though, i would never wear a cheongsam/qi pao that is not made by a chinese designer/is over sexualized because i don’t want to be fetishized. but i think you have the right to choose to wear it or not because you are asian!! and you shouldnt invalidate that.
personally, thats how i see it as well. i think its more disrespectful to make a cheap oversexualized version of clothing of the culture than to wear the cultures actual traditional clothing.
