I rode with John Wayne in RIO LOBO with Jorge Rivero A WORD ON WESTERNS

  • Go on location with John Wayne's RIO LOBO co-star, Jorge Rivero, in this exclusive interview. Find out how Jorge was hand picked by acclaimed director Howard Hawks for the director's last western. His last film! The terrific opening sequence of the train robbery was staged and shot in Mexico with legendary stunt co-ordinator Yakima Canutt. So many other movies were being lensed in the area that the entire RIO LOBO production moved to Arizona and the movie streets of Old Tucson, familiar to Hawks and Duke from their classic RIO BRAVO. What did Jorge think Hawks? Of Duke? The location shift? And, following the filming, Jorge was invited to join Duke and his wife Pilar for a cruise on The Wild Goose where he was witness to a spirited altercation. Fun stories from the delightful Jorge Rivero. Recorded May 21, 2019

@Danny Underground more like the mid 90s. I have to disagree with you, it was after sexy comedias. Those were great even if they were vulgar, they were quick on their feet to respond on roasting each other. However, I do respect your opinion and taste. But, the mid 90s and movies after that its when became garbage.

But I did several things about the movie: 1) Civil War opening was interesting and train scene well done; 2) that lead-in guitar solo by Jerry Goldsmith so effectively sets a tone for a movie near border in that era; 3) three chicks just are smokin'; 4) Jack Elam's effort

Glad I clicked on this one...I really, REALLY enjoy Westerns....and their history with personal stories. I lived in Mexico City for 4 years during my childhood, teen years (early 1970's). This guy Jorge Rivero was a movie and soap opera actor. He was the current heart-throb kind'a guy. He was pretty good, even if he had some pretty cheesy parts in those soap operas (since they're ALL cheesy...lol). But I kind'a liked him, seemed like a cool guy. I never knew he played a part in a John Wayne movie...guess I wasn't paying attention. I'll be watching that movie this weekend. Time to bring out the cowboy outfit...and chastise my twin 15 yr old daughters for a while. 😁

Truly a great actor. I loved Rio Lobo . It to me was truly a well acted movie and when i say that i mean they make you feel as if you are a part of what is happening on screen . I think that in certain areas these movies like this could be shown on big screen again with success . People need these not some dang tractor trailer that changes itself into some walking robot or is some horrific looking monster or devil.Worse even is the movies about walking or living ? Dead people ??? .
But i'm a old fart so i may be just a little one sided. But if i am, well i don't see that changing anytime soon. How about you ?

Thats funny, he had that effect on my grandma and all the women around that age. I remember hearing them gossip joking about him, when I was kid and how they wished their unmarried daughters at the time could find themselves a Jorge Rivero look alike of guy as a husband

Another fantastic interview. It was great to see Jorge Rivero in the original outfit. Very sad to know that the town of Old Tucson buned down, quite sad indeed. Thank you very much Mr. Rod Word. It is a fine work you have been doing to keep up with the western movies history.
