Ever since I first saw The Searchers it instantly became my favorite western. Not only is it the greatest western but it is one of the greatest films ever made. I also think Duke's Ethan Edwards character gets maligned too much. I think after what happens to his family he shows that all he really is is human. As far as his popularity goes...my Dad introduced me to John Wayne after Duke had already passed away. Now, my twin daughters are 10 and have known and loved John Wayne for several years. McClintock and The Quiet Man are among their favorite movies that the watch and quote repeatedly, That love and admiration of Duke was organic. I did not force feed it to them because I love Duke. He was just that good.
Thomas Milner, I watch him as often as possible. We need heroes like him again. I'm 64 and grew up watching him with my parents. He represents what is right with our country. One day our country will return to morals and what is right. One day in our lifetimes. God bless

I have always watched John Wayne in any movie he was in. I never knew why exactly except that he was a great actor. Until, he made Hell Fighters. When he walks out of the oil well fire and they showed a close up of his face. I started crying right there in the theater. My Grandfather had just padded away and John Wayne's face was very red from the heat. My Grandfather was always called "Charlie Red". That's when I realized my Grandfather was the spitting image of John Wayne. I still watch at least one his movies a week.
The Duke has always been my favorite actor my entire life 71 years. Thank you for all of the movies I went to as a kid and stared in awe with a big grin on my face.
@@AWordonWesterns my late stepson made me a John Wayne collection of DVD's a couple of years before he died. He knew how I thought of The Duke. I have all but 3. The one I don't have is The Three Godfathers. I'm searching for that one. Of his films after Stagecoach, not the B-movies.
As all the years that have pasted john wayne is my favorite western hero. I can watch his movies over and over. I saddens me that he had to leave us . Best wishes to the Wayne family.
I'm 58 and I have adored John Wayne since I was a child. He died when I was in high school and I knew I would never get to meet a Great American. Bless all of his Family ❣️
He was a legend “ The Duke”. To this day I still watch his movies n I’ve seen them more times to mention. He had a very unique voice that any one would know who that voice was. Loved John Wayne “John Duke”!
The Searchers is probably my favorite western. I change my mind almost daily with other westerns. I always come back to that one. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Tks
My sister and I love John Wayne--I wore all the VHS tapes out watching him and now I am watching him on my DVDs. He is one of the best actors ever born. Miss you John Wayne.
My father is a big fan of John Wayne, so I grew up watching I'm in my 50s now , my children who are in there 20s know who John Wayne is. My husband is a bigger fan than I, so on weekends if there was a movie he was in on ,they watched.
My Dad loved John Wayne. He saw his first Wayne film in a Cinema of a bombed out street in London in the 30's. To his last days, John Wayne was his hero.
Here's one for ya, Joseph Stalin was a huge fan of John Wayne movies, he had them all translated into Russian so he could privately watch them. He said it broke his heart that he had to put Wayne on a death list for being anti-communist. That's no joke, he actually had two assassins sent to America to kill him but they were intercepted by the FBI when they tried to enter the country.
Rob, you are so right about The Searchers. Every time I watch it I see something in it I hadn't seen before. So many layers and nuances. Ford's direction, Winton C. Hoch's cinematography, Frank Nugent's script, Max Steiner's score, the cast and the crew and location. Like a perfect storm. It really rises above the moniker of Best Western ever made, and ascends into the discussion of Best Film ever made. The fact that you were fortunate enough to visit the set in Monument Valley and meet the Duke is beyond serendipitous...
That picture of you, Rob, with Duke in Monument Valley is my all-time favorite picture of Duke. It captures his true character, never too busy or famous to not spend time with a fan, even a 7-year-old fan. I attended a special showing of The Searchers in a theater a few years ago. As the movie ended there was a standing ovation for Duke as he walked away from the door. It was such a special moment to experience.
Wonderful interview and wonderful memories! My father always reminded me of John Wayne. When my father passed, they happened to be playing John Wayne movies all night on TV. Those movies are what got me through the night.
I enjoyed every film Patrick made with his father! Especially McClintock! And Big Jake, so nice to see Patrick and Ethan work together with their father.
I was introduced to Patrick Wayne by Milburn Stone in 1955 up at West Point when Pat and I were both 15 years old. He was playing a part in The Long Gray Line. I am 50 years old and I have a large wall in my home of John Wayne. I grew up on John Wayne and watch him today. Just love him and all his movies. No better man.
John Wayne will always be my favorite actor of western movies! The things that are told by others of him, about their personal interactions with him, always gives me the feeling that he didn't think of himself as an unattainable person to be around. That he was very personable & people wanted to be around him not just because he was a famous person, very down to earth. I think that's why he has continued to be so popular with western movie fans.
Not just Westerns though. I believe it was 1951 when my Father was recalled to duty with the Marine Corps. Between fighting forest fires he was also an extra in the ground combat scenes in "Flying Leathernecks". After completing the filming the Duke threw a big BBQ for all the Marines in the film.
Here's my favorite John Wayne story, and it came from a Green Beret. He had already served two tours in Vietnam and was currently at Ft Benning training Special Forces, when news hit that John Wayne was coming to Ft Benning to film a movie about the Green Berets he said to himself "Great, that's the last thing I need is some military wannabe movie star coming around here thinking he's gonna make a movie about what I do, if I meet him I'm gonna give him a piece of my mind about him being in so many war movies and never actually having worn a uniform". Several weeks later he was sitting in his office when he heard a commotion in the hallway, upon stepping out into the hallway he found himself standing face to face with John Wayne who immediately stuck his hand out and said "Hello, I'm John Wayne", as if he needed an introduction (that's a quote from him), he said the only thing he could think to do at the moment was to stick his hand out and shake his and reply "Hello Mr Wayne, it's a pleasure to meet you sir" and turned around and walked right back into his office. At the end of the story he said "Anyone who ever thinks they'd tell John Wayne off never stood face to face with him"🤣🤣🤣.
I like john Wayne because he always portrayed a man amongst men, a mans man, and he was more than just a cowboy but also a versatile actor. My favorite pictures are Hondo, Donovan's Reef, True Grit, The Cowboys, The Quiet Man, The searchers, The Man who shot Liberty Valance, The green Berets and all the rest of his films. He showed boys how to be men when this country had real heroes. Our heroes were not just in movies but in sports, and the men and woman that built this country from New York to California. I've been a truck driver for more than 30 years and I have seen this country from every corner north, south, east n west and I'm worried of the direction we are headed as Nation. I have other favorite actors that I believe were great roll models and inspired us to be great. Henry Fonda in Young Mr. Lincoln, and The Grapes of Wrath, Gary Cooper The Pride of the Yankees and John Doe, Jimmy Stewart it's a wonderful life and Shenandoah. I could go on but it would take up too much space. Thanks for the memories.
Will FOREVER love Mr. John Wayne. They don't make them like that anymore. He was just like my own Father, who was a real Horseman, cattle rancher snd businessman.
I remember as a kid watching John Wayne movies with my dad. They used to be on Saturday afternoon just about every weekend. It's because of that I began collecting anything John Wayne. Everytime I watch a John Wayne movie it brings back the memories of sitting on the floor on Saturday afternoon watching those movies with my dad. Something I'll never forget.
Great treat to hear from John's son Patrick. Behind the scenes of the classic "Searchers" is fantastic. Western movies have represented the United States all over the world. Thank You..!!
It’s always amazing how people can pick out one of his movies and say it was the best. His had several things in common. He believed in traditional American values and he tried to exemplify them in movies he made. He was a leading example of the Code of the West. It showed in his attitude, his manner of speech, his strength as a leader to defend this country. He grew on you over the years as you watched and rewatched his pictures growing up. Today I’m near the end of my life. But those special moments in so many of his films still touch the heart when you hear that voice again reminding you to be the best person you can be. How can his son not see that the type of man his father portrayed in the movies was much admired by the public.
Boy-O-Boy ... What a treasure to behold! Thank you for sharing your story as a child along with that terrific photo of you and the Duke! You do great work in providing the public these wonderful memories. Best Wishes and continued success.
Always has been, always will be my favorite.... I watch his movies often ... always will ... I was 20 when he died but my children and grandchildren can tell you all about the Duke ♥️🥰
Love John Wayne movies a true actor so many greats to choose from as an Irish man one of my favourites has to be the Quiet man ☘️ a will keep watching his films as long as I can. Long live the Duke
My Favorite actor. I have a room in my house that's entirely dedicated to him . And my movie collection is loaded with 87 DVD's and blu-rays of this Great American Actor and my inspiration growing up in the 60's and 70's . RIP
And on the set of The Searchers no less, the greatest western ever!!! And here I was all proud of myself because I got my picture taken sitting in the actual Sanford and Son pickup truck last year, now I feel like a real loser, I'll never show that picture to anyone again 🤣🤣🤣
There will never be another Duke! John Wayne was a man's man! He'll always be my hero from my childhood of the 60s and your early 70s. I will always watches movies undyingly as I have over the years. I'm honored to share the same birthday as John Wayne. And I thank him because growing up as a kid I didn't have many examples of man in my life. He was and always will be the best example of a Dad I could imagine. And I thank Him! 👊😎🇺🇸
I think Ford understood human nature better than most, and knew what he needed to do to get the emotions he wanted on film. John Wayne movies are never petty, but they encompass the human spirit of independence and self reliance according to personal grit and determination, which resonates with many.
I met Patrick last year at The Memphis Film Festival in Tunica Mississippi. We talked about the Movie "Big Jake". He's a Wonderful Actor and I enjoyed meeting him. Thank You so much Rob, for another Awesome Interview!!!
Love Patrick Wayne too. He and his Dad had some memorable scenes together. You get this mental picture of how someone is based on their on screen persona and between the Duke and my own Dad. I never thought of the great rough and tumble tough guy Cowboy/Marine etc. as a sensitive man but then here is his son Patrick explaining that yes he was. I'm glad to learn this and even my own Dad was much more sensitive and tender to me as he and I mellowed with age. Long live the Duke.
I couldn't imagine a better fantasy/dream come true, and Rob actually lived it! A summer vacation in an airstream, in Monument Valley, during the shooting of one of the best movie ever made, and meeting John Wayne at the height of his career! What a blessed, lucky man!

With all his westerns he made that I enjoy immensely I love my "QUIET MAN"!!! To this day all my daughters will not watch it!Why? They reminded me that one year I watched that movie everyday for a month!! What's wrong with that I say to them it's the best pair of people you would want in a movie! GOD BLESS ALL AND GOD BLESS JOHN WAYNE AND MAUREEN O HARA!!!
Wayne should have gotten an Academy Award for The Quiet Man, but he didn't even get a nomination because the academy was miffed at him about being a part of The Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals and it's part in the blacklisting of actor's and writer's who were associated with the Communist Party.

Thanks, Sandra. Nice memories of your Grandfather.
An Actor whose work has with stood the test of time.
True Patriot and beloved by many. God rest his soul ♥️. Pray for us Duke, we need it more than ever
Wow. 7 yrs old and went on set with the Duke. What an experience to remember.
The Duke has always been my favorite actor my entire life 71 years. Thank you for all of the movies I went to as a kid and stared in awe with a big grin on my face.
I'm grinning reading your note, John. Thanks!
I still watch all of his movies even though I've seen them probably a hundred times he was a great actor and a great man
I have watched John Wayne movies over and over again all my life and I watch like its the first time I have seen them. All my kids know John Wayne.
These Videos around John Wayne are Pure Magic for me. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
As all the years that have pasted john wayne is my favorite western hero. I can watch his movies over and over. I saddens me that he had to leave us . Best wishes to the Wayne family.
Thank God for John Wayne. Thank you, Patrick Wayne another great Actor
Tks
Thanks, John. It's right up at the top for me.
I will always love John Wayne.
John Wayne has been my favorite actor for many years . I love his movies. I watched them with my grandpa and still watch them today.
John Wayne. What an iconic American. The Searchers and The Quiet Man are my favorites.
How cool. A standing ovation. Thanks, Perry. We're still celebrating memories of Duke and sharing these wonderful memories.
As a Western fan keep doing this for all of us thank you cheers from Pennsylvania Blessings 🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍👍
Definitely my all time favorite!!!
Probably my favorite John Wayne movie! I still tear up when he rescues Debbie!
I’ve seen The Searchers at least 20 times and it gets better every time
Wonderful interview and wonderful memories! My father always reminded me of John Wayne. When my father passed, they happened to be playing John Wayne movies all night on TV. Those movies are what got me through the night.
Bless you , Virginia. You will see your Father again, one day. It will be a HUGE Homecoming.
He is a man among men as an actor. Always a great movie star. I love The Duke!!!
I just love John Wayne. My father loved westerns and so do my sister and I. Thankyou Rob.
I've always been a fan of John Wayne ever since I can remember when I was a kid. And he's always been one of my dad's favorite actors
We chatted for a few minutes and I never forgot those Precious moments my entire life.

You bet, Geo. Thanks and drive carefully!
I love my JOHN WAYNE. I will always love him. I watch them over and over. And over
Great treat to hear from John's son Patrick.
It's 2020 and he's still the best.
Grew up watching The Duke. Loved him, and Miss him still. The Searchers was a special movie.
Boy-O-Boy ... What a treasure to behold!
Thank you for sharing your story as a child along with that terrific photo of you and the Duke!
You do great work in providing the public these wonderful memories.
Best Wishes and continued success.
Thanks, Billy, glad you're enjoying our shows.
RIP
Best WOW yet! How cool to have a picture taken with the Duke.
And on the set of The Searchers no less, the greatest western ever!!!
And here I was all proud of myself because I got my picture taken sitting in the actual Sanford and Son pickup truck last year, now I feel like a real loser, I'll never show that picture to anyone again 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for your story meeting John Wayne and interviewing Patrick. The Duke will always be my favorite actor.
“Every time you watch it it gets better” this is true. My favorite movie and each time does get better and I learn something new each time.
Thanks, Coondawg. I watched it AGAIN tonight on TCM!
The Searchers is the best!
John Ford's.........MasterPiece..............Voted The Best Western Ever Produced...................
Just hearing the music from The Searchers makes me weep!
John Wayne
The name says it all
👍🏼🇺🇸🦅
I think Ford understood human nature better than most, and knew what he needed to do to get the emotions he wanted on film. John Wayne movies are never petty, but they encompass the human spirit of independence and self reliance according to personal grit and determination, which resonates with many.
I met Patrick last year at The Memphis Film Festival in Tunica Mississippi. We talked about the Movie "Big Jake". He's a Wonderful Actor and I enjoyed meeting him. Thank You so much Rob, for another Awesome Interview!!!
Thanks, Carolyn. Too bad there was no festival this year.
Thanks, Ranger. I truly am.
This jesus of Nazareth, the “offspring of David”, the “Morning Star”, WAS NOT Who died for our sins, YaH The Heavenly Father DID and here is the PROOF
HERE is The REAL MESSIAH, Who they REALLY Crucified for the sins of man
From the Dead Sea Scrolls Exodus 3 Scroll, "Yad He Vav He" is what Moses wrote
Paleo Hebrew Direct Translation
Yad "Hand"
He "Breath"
Vav "Nail"
He "Breath"
YaH's Name:
(Ya)d + (H)e, as YaH is what Moses called Him as well all throughout the Book of Isaiah and Psalms, "this is My Name for all generations" (Exodus 3)
YaH The Creator:
Yad He, (Hand Breath), as YaH's "Hand" Formed man from the dust of the Earth and His "Breath" made him a living being (Adam)
YaH's Sacrifice of Crucifixion:
Vav He (Nail Breath), the "Nail" through the "Hand", that whosoever shall call YaH Savior, His Breath brings forth life (Salvation)
How YaH arrives:
YaH arrives via the Tent of Meeting (Exodus 33:7:11), NOT through childbirth (Isaiah 45:10)
Why they demanded YaH to be Crucified:
YaH was Crucified according to Hebrew law (Deuteronomy 21), to be Hung on an Almond Tree for BLASPHEMY, as the Messiah claimed He was YaH.
He was YaH
Bible verses of YaH
Isaiah 42:8
"I am YaH; that is my Name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.
Isaiah 43:11
I, I am YAH, and there is no other Savior but Me.
Isaiah 45:5
I am YaH, and there is NONE ELSE.

@@Praise___YaH So what's your point and why did you include your comment in a thread about John Wayne?
michmvp
My point? You pray to a jesus? You think jesus is your savior? HE’S NOT
If you pray to this jesus, STOP DOING THAT. When you pray, PRAY TO YAH THE HEAVENLY FATHER. YaH is Who died for your sins, YaH was Who they Crucified for you, NOT this jesus
HalleluYAH means “Praise ye YaH” so praise YaH, He deserves it
@@Praise___YaH Acts 4:10-12
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
KJV
2 Cor 5:17-19
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
KJV
I always loved that 'Respect your betters' line as he pulled his son off the horse....
Need more real men like John today.
Where?
And I think that Patrick hasn't done to bad himself, I might be wrong but I think that his father did a good job with him
Love this what a tribute to John Wayne I’m a true life long fan and the fact that he and my grandfather favored each other ver much although John Wayne was much taller than my grandfather was but my grandfather was still tall about 5’10” or almost 6 foot tall Wayne WBA’s still taller ..... my daughter asked me who my favorite actor was without hesitation I said John Wayne and I would watch a John Wayne movie a thousand times and still keep watching till the end of my days thank you so much for sharing
Timed it right!! Love Big Jake!!
Here's a bit of movie trivia you'll like.
John Wayne's youngest son Ethan Wayne, who played his grandson in Big Jake, was a stuntman in The Blues Brothers.
Watch during the credits at the end, under "stunts" you'll see the name John E Wayne.
Ethan was actually his middle name, but since there was already someone around the house named John (obviously) he was raised using his middle name.
