Finally someone who is just an Indy fan and not an Indy critic. Why are the new films always compared to the old films? The old ones will never have the real looking effects as the new ones. But the new ones want to show something new and the old films don't leave much room for that. Fans often don't realise how difficult it is to make an adventure film exciting. A good script alone isn't enough. Film is a medium that only works to a limited extent, just like theatre or a book. Mangold has skills that Spielberg doesn't have. But Mangold is talented in his own way. He doesn't make his characters seem so important. Spielberg brings out more personality and soul in the individual actors. But Mangold has the ability to create big events, brings the events to life. For example the time travel part. You have to realise that we are not just spectators of a mystery here, like in the other movies. We are becoming part of the mystical!
@@3styler1 I actually thought Dial of Destiny was ok but i understand your opinion I loved Raiders it was OG & Last crusade was the best but Temple of Doom was so insane & dark that it was The 1 I liked most 👍
You do do! Dial of Destiny is the only movie since Raiders I didn't see in the theater but that doesn't mean I'm not going to rent the Blu-Ray and get all giddy--excited
I think that part of what made Indiana Jones a lovable character is that he feels like a real, down to this world character, he mades mistakes, he gets his ass kicked some times, hes not a womanizer beding every woman on sight like James Bond and hes actually a school guy with a Doctorate in Archeology, so hes a badazz hero but hes also a smart guy, I don't think any hero before Indiana Jones had that right mix of tough and smart.
Just so you know for future videos... Any location within England containing "shire" in its title is not pronounced as it is written. The pronunciation is "sheer". So for example it's York-sheer, Wilt-sheer, and Hertford-sheer. You're welcome 😁
In case you're wondering why Doctor Henry "Indiana" Jones never gets the prize he was looking for like the Holy Grail it is because it's a McGuffin an object that attracts the attention of the hero whom starts a quest for it but in the process of getting it he will have a life experience that will help him grow as a person, so the story is not really about getting the McGuffin but about personal growth.
@@benjbutton Nah, in "Riders of the Lost Ark" Dr Jones loses the golden idol but unscrupulous archeologist Renee Emil Belloq steals it from Indi then all the actions of Indiana during the movie are purely inconsequential and he never got any credit for finding the Ark, that's a McGuffin, in the second movie there's the precious stones that turned out to be just stones not diamonds, McGuffin, in the third movie seeking for the Holy Grail he never gets to keep the grail, McGuffin. Bottom line is that the story is not about Indiana Jones finding and keeping treasures but progressing as a person.
19:55 "favouring practical effects over digital assets [for ROTLA]" It was c1980 when they filmed ROTLA. At the time the only way to do the effects for the film was analogue and photochemically. There had literally only been a handful of very primitive digital effects shots to that point, such as the title design in Vertigo or a still of a digital face in Future World. Spielberg didn't really favour practical effects over digital. They were his only option.
They weren't portraying traditional Hindu culture in Temple of Doom, they were depicting a fictional, evil cult. They were meant to be bizarre and evil. :D The only thing that is "problematic" here are the people misunderstanding these simple things. :D All 5 Indiana Jones movies were way better than most other movies out there.
As a 1st generation Indiana Jones fan, who has been one ever since I first saw ROTLA in the movie theatre in 1981 when I was 14 years old, I can happily say that I absolutely love ALL FIVE Indiana Jones films without question... Personally, I would rank and rate the series as follows...: #1 - RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK .........................(10/10) #2 - THE TEMPLE OF DOOM.................................(10/10) #3 - THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL.....(10/10) #4 - THE LAST CRUSADE......................................(10/10) #5 - THE DIAL OF DESTINY...................................(10/10) ROTLA and TOD are both on my "Top 10 Greatest Films of All Time" list, as well... These first two films are PERFECT... They have been, are, and always will be the BEST Indiana Jones movies.. Nothing can touch these two CLASSICS... Yet, TLC, KOTCS, and DOD are not too far behind... They are terrific, too!.. Additionally, I can't help but give them ALL a 10/10, because I love them all so much... I truly do love all five films in this series equally for different reasons... Each is unique and special in their own way... And "YES", you read correctly... I DID rank KOTCS over TLC... Even though I adore TLC, I think KOTCS is "slightly"better... And "YES", I DID rate both KOTCS and DOD at 10/10... I absolutely ADORE these two films...They're terrific... Pure unadulterated escapism, and SO MUCH FUN, just like the first three... There's NO difference (aside from the filmmaking time gap between the first three and these two)...They DO NOT deserve the unnecessary criticism and hate that they get! So, in conclusion... I absolutely LOVE the Indiana Jones Saga... yes, ALL FIVE FILMS... with a passion... No matter what order you choose to rank them (that's a personal thing), it can not be denied that they are ALL great and worthy entries in the series... Thank you George Lucas... Thank you Steven Spielberg... Thank you Harrison Ford... Thank you John Williams... Thank you to EVERYONE that helped to bring these five classics to the screen! From 1981 to 2023... Thank you ALL for 42 years of high adventure... It's been an amazing ride! And let's not forget The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles TV show, which is pretty great, too! Lastly, ALWAYS remember... IF ADVENTURE HAS A NAME, IT MUST BE INDIANA JONES!
You lost any credibility by giving the at best 1/10 Dial of Dysentery 10 stars. Coates and their attempt at crap on this series rightly so lost hundreds of millions.
In the video Indiana Jones is shown correcting Sallah’s pronunciation of Belloq, “Bell-ock.” The narrator proceeds to pronounce Belloq throughout the video “Buh-lock.”
- Due to the writers strike of the time, Tom Selleck indeed could have played in both 'Indy' films and Magnum series. In all likelihood, though, the part would have been recast after the first or surely the second film, given what proved to be the limited cinematic appeal of Tom. - I personally have no opinion regarding _that_ question. It is worth noting that both Spielberg and Ford believed the 5th and fourth films should not have been made - at first!
I considered clicking on the video several times. The topic interests me, and I trust this channel to provide videos that I will enjoy. However, something about the presentation made me hesitate. I wanted to see how long it was and if it only talked about the original trilogy. I'm not sure what exactly made me hesitate. Once I finally clicked on the video (15 Hrs mark, 3.6 k views) and saw that I liked the presentation, I told myself that I had just taken a while to click for some reason. But then I saw the view count and thought it was strangely low. Even the Nostalgia Critic has more views in this time period. I don't know if I'm crazy for thinking this, but something about the way I watch UA-cam has made me more "selective" about what I click on. That's right, this video has made me feel like I'm in a conspiracy about what I should be watching.
No, Last as in the final crusade. You do know that Paramount made a deal with Steven and George back in the day for 5 Indiana Jones movies? The last two films weren't cash grabs.
The fourth film still felt like Indy, even if a bit off. Also a fitting ending to the series. The fifth one, though... Never felt like Indiana Jones to me. Felt more like a downer movie. Especially in comparison to the earlier movies. Killing off his son, his marriage in shambles... Nope, not for me. I'd rather have seen Mutt in the role - maybe the movie had been a bit interesting then. Also, I think people are tired of movie after movie feeling like they either have to kill off or somehow put down the older characters to forward the new, lesser interesting characters. One can pass the torch without doing that, y'know. If they had done that, I think people would have accepted it more. I don't understand why so many writers choose the boring choice.
Ranking Indy's movies. First Raiders. Second Temple of Doom. Third Last Crusade. Fourth Dial of Destiny I like that Twilight Zone finale. Crystal Skull is dead last.
Honestly, when I think of Indiana Jones, I only think of Raiders. It's so perfectly executed. For a long time, I thought Last Crusade was okay, but it just hasn't stood up for me over time. And sorry to the Short Round fans, but I think Indy was really at his best without a sidekick.
My favourite trilogy of movies is Indiana Jones, number 4 was ok but my god Dial of Destiny is not an Indiana Jones movie its a Phoebe Waller Bridge Mess.
I loved the first three movies even when the Willie Scott actress Kate Capshaw contributes in nothing to the plot. The Last Crusade should had been the last Indiana Jones movie, everything they made after that was, in my opinion, a blast.
I grew up as a kid with Raiders and loved each movie in the series while sharing them with my kids. Dial of Dysentery was a disgraceful that tried to make him a horrible old man. Glad to see Disney lost a fortune spitting on the legendary charters.
Man, I was in agreement with you before you said you liked the last two movies. You are obviously a movie industry shill. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Dial of Destiny were objectively terrible.
Man, STFU! Just because he likes something you don't, that makes him a shill? I can turn that back on you. If you hate something he doesn't, does that make you an a-hole? Normally, I would lean towards yes, but I don't know you. You could be a decent person, but that's not what you are presenting. Let him like what he likes. He's not hurting anything except your sense of taste. I think you will survive.
This is a charecter and series that has ment so much to me and to finally see one of these on the big screen felt really special
for real. as much as i dislike dial, it’s probably the only time i’ll ever see indy on the big screen
Indiana Jones was the ultimate superhero for kids who grew up watching He-Man, Zorro, Flash Gordon, James Bond and Superman.
A superhero yeah, he can even stand there and resist 10,000 rads of plutonium radioactivity.

It was my favorite to see in the theater. If it wasn't for Short Round, Willie would be dead and Indy would have been lost to Kali Ma.

Temple of Doom was my Favorite 😎
Temple of Doom is also my favourite Dial of Destiny I thought was a mess of a movie though the woman in it ruined it as well as the bad writing.
