We just bought our first 1840 baler this summer, and Scott id like say your videos had a big hand in helping us make our decision. Thanks for all your reviews from all of us at PRIORITY HAY COMPANY in Berne, ny
North Texas Hay it definitely has, we’re just waiting to start 2nd cutting. What in your opinion is the right stroke count for that baler ? I’m going to put a monitor in my tractor. Thank I appreciate all your info
After kneeling a lifetime I’d like to recommend a good knee cushion for jobs like this one. Thank you for making great videos. Helps to have that lady of yours to help with videos and baling. Good help, hard to find
Scott, what you done is going too history but greasing bearing must less tying a square knot are a simple way of life...Txs and keep up the much appreciated effort...
hey I feel your pain, I just replaced same bearing on that side on my Vermeer 23a rake just couple weeks ago. those rakes are identical, except for your mods. keep on keeping on
Just another reason to grease everyday. It’s an opportunity to find stuff that needs fixing. By the way enjoy your videos. Thanks for the effort in doing them.
In your video's you almost always say how some of us my not like watch in something you are doing. I have never had that problem. Everything you and your miss's post i always enjoying watch in. I wish you would post more videos, but i know it has to be hard to make them while you are trying to get stuff done. Just keep them coming enjoy ever one yall make.
You are lucky the had the part you needed so it must be a popular part, I got and old NH side delivery rake that has been over thousands of acres all I have put in it is rake teeth and one u joint not bragging but not bad.
Hub bearings like that i have always been told and done you crank as tight as possible with ratchet or some sort of wrench to seat bearings and then back off and tighten up hand tight only and put cotter in
dear north Texas hay after you switch from the wobble bearings to the new style. you will keep breaking hubs until you switch and put the new style rake floating spindles on it , takes about a thousand dollars. but it fixes the problem. it let everything give.
210 twine is a heck of a twine. I run 130 on 70 ish pound bales and seem to not have any problems. I guess with the 210 you never have to worry about it breaking when you're moving it in and out of the barn on trailers.
Got to tell ya. The welder does make the man, welder. Miller Passport, don't make um any more. My welding looked like bird poop until I spent a couple $k for a welder, bring it.
I do bearings the same way. its the way I was taught no sense in doing it some other way. That way I know I got grease all the way through the race. The gloves are a neat trick, Im always in too much of a hurry to stop and look for gloves. Thanks ..Jack
I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS .HAVE YOU EVER MADE A VIDEO ON YOUR AERATOR DRAG? AND CAN YOU EXPLAIN HOW YOUR WATER WHEEL WORKS? IM LOOKING TO BUILD ONE , BECAUSE I CANT FIND ANY THING LIKE THAT AROUND THIS PART OF TEXAS. ANY ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED ;THANKS FOR YOUR TIME
Yeah there's other ways to grease a bearing but you do it like I was taught by my Dad and a good friends Dad‼️ It works good and I've never had one go bad that I replaced‼️ Also your place must be nice and quiet with that long, long driveway❓👍 Always look forward to your videos‼️ It must be the headband🤣🤣🤪🤪‼️‼️‼️ Or it could be you have 5 BALLS who knows❓🤣❗️
Sure does pay to inspect equipment and lube before going back into the field, if you didn't see that could have cost you alot more, Great catch, and repair!👍
I would buy an extra one to have there in case one breaks on a weekend. If one is bad there is a very good chance the other side is not for behind it. I understand your very busy today. If it were mine I would replace all of them. That looks just like a trailer hub? Something I would look into. It could save you a lot of $$$ not paying the mark upped price.
This how another hay farmer does it. It seems like his round bale handling is very advanced but he seems to be going backwords on square bale handling.
Scott if this happened before on this same rake, I'm wondering if it is riding to hard on the ground since it is the outside rake and not one on the inside ones. The bearings failed for some reason. BTW that's the way you grease those bearing correctly and in my opinion it's the only way to do that. My Dad taught me that years ago and I still do it that way today. You get grease inside all the bearings which is the only way to force it inside the bearing surfaces. You did a good job. It's the nature of your business that things break and usually at the wrong time.
Isn’t it funny how you find those simple little breaks that can cause a lot of damage if you continue to run the machine right when your ready to make hay? Lol what ended up being wrong with that hub if the bearings were still good? Did a race let go?
North Texas Hay oh wow! If they’re not too expensive, it might be worth keeping a spare on the shelf so it doesn’t set you back having to run to town. Lol
The southern edge of TXU's territory included Rockdale and several old power plants there at the ALCOA aluminum foundry. In the system they were thought of as rough, "back woods" mechanics.
"garbage" /piss poor design... Frustrating for you I know. maybe check for high temp, finger works fine, after an hour or two of raking. Compare with other spindles/hubs. If that one hub constantly runs hot I would start to think the inner race surface of the shaft has some sort of issue or there is an alignment issue.Tapered roller bearings you took out and retained "survived" but the hub housing failed: down right odd. Pain in the butt and will take some research but a better hub assembly might be available: think trailer axle spindles and hubs.
Sure miss your videos loved watching Scott work
Enjoy watching Scott repair his equipment. Used to wrench on forklifts. Thanks for posting.
A trick: watch series at Flixzone. Been using it for watching loads of movies recently.
@Timothy Otis definitely, I have been using Flixzone for since november myself =)

A typical day on the farm I see. Thanks for taking us along.

They just looked like it. There’s new disposable sweat absorption gloves the same color.
Thanks for the great videos!!!

Packing that bearing , That’s Old School I think it’s still the best way 👍
Thanks for the videos I do enjoy them.
Thanks
Cool video, love watching all your video, fun to see what it takes to keep keep your operation going.
It's a mess most times
I enjoy your videos! I put two or three pair of gloves on at a time. When the outside set gets too dirty, I pull them off and start fresh.
Great idea
Scott, what you done is going too history but greasing bearing must less tying a square knot are a simple way of life...Txs and keep up the much appreciated effort...

Surgeon's Knot
Beautiful fields and crops. Thanks for the video

Nice job Mr Scott
Thank you sir
You are lucky the had the part you needed so it must be a popular part, I got and old NH side delivery rake that has been over thousands of acres all I have put in it is rake teeth and one u joint not bragging but not bad.
That's a good run of luck
Hub bearings like that i have always been told and done you crank as tight as possible with ratchet or some sort of wrench to seat bearings and then back off and tighten up hand tight only and put cotter in
It tighten it to where the spindle won't spin then back it off
Good vedio that's when it's good to find problems before in the field . How many rolls of string does bailer hold total ?
10

I had no clue you could get by with 130, I learn something new every day
A NINJA cutting hay 😂😂😂😂
Grease these bearings two or three times a day; you shouldn't lose another bearing.
Grease is cheap maintenance. Worth it's weight in gold.
A spindle. Walk over to welder, done. MAYBE! Love metal, building machine shop. Retired Vietnam Vet 73 young.
Thank you for your service. I'm actually going to try and weld the last one and see how it works
Got to tell ya. The welder does make the man, welder. Miller Passport, don't make um any more. My welding looked like bird poop until I spent a couple $k for a welder, bring it.
Are those wasp nest inside the twine? I believe those knots you're using are called surgeon knots.
Dirt dobber nest
Also known as Blood Knot.
Hope you managed to get it all up in time! The more I see of those MF 1840 balers, the more I like them. might have to be next year's new toy
They have been tanks
Nice repair.
This time
Great video!!!
Are those aloe sweat adsorption gloves?
No, just regular nitrile
I do bearings the same way. its the way I was taught no sense in doing it some other way. That way I know I got grease all the way through the race. The gloves are a neat trick, Im always in too much of a hurry to stop and look for gloves. Thanks ..Jack
Lol
Find a Becknell distributor. I believe they carry twine. We carry that type at our JD dealer.
I'll check them

Not sure what you mean by aerator drag
nice work on that hub
Thanks
I love it when i exit my cubical and head home to a "New" North Texas Hay Video !! :)
Thanks,lol

If that grease was so good, why are hubs going out . HUH... For twine have you got a Tractor Supply Store Close ? Good selection.............
Not the bearings going out the flimsy case they put them in keeps breaking
What was the name on the grease?
It's called green grease
All good! Thanks for posting :)

Where can I read about this
Never gets close to the ground. The bearings are in good shape, the casing breaks
Manufacture defect or as you call it "a piece of garbage". Your funny. I enjoy watching your videos.
Lol, thanks
Great videos.
Thanks

my grandfather is 75 but gets around like he is fifty,we always try to tell him to slow down
That's great
Yea I have a hard time finding 190 twine fort square baler also I would live to fine a place online I could get twine for a good price.
Let me know if you find anything and I'll do the same
Good video..
Thanks
Well colour me edjumacated, i never knew Dewalt made impacts.
It's been a work horse
yeah all my cordless stuff, hex impacts 12v - 20v and drills are Dewalt but never seen air tools. good luck raking.
good job
Thanks
Hub stem probably off by a degree or two,
That's what I'm thinking
Been there. Done that
Lol
Il y a pas de graisseurs
I was right there with you until you put that "Rockdale Ratchet" on that hub nut. Textbook bearing packing though. Getting to be a lost art.
Rockdale ratchet?
Old Texas Utilities term for channel lock pliers. Usually frowned upon when applied to a nut or bolt around the power plant.
The southern edge of TXU's territory included Rockdale and several old power plants there at the ALCOA aluminum foundry. In the system they were thought of as rough, "back woods" mechanics.
The weakest link always breaks 😫
That would be me
North Texas Hay lol you can’t be saying things like that lol
$55 to $60 each for 210 on amazon
I was hoping for sub 40
I was hoping for sub 40

I think the axle was mounted out of spec
too low to the ground
3 inches at least off the ground
First, never been first ever
Matthew McGee lol
weld it
I might try
