These are not for cell phone signal. Most phones have a FM radio program. In this case it needs to have the headphone plugged in. The wire is used as an antenna.

Andrew you are taking this completely out of context. The antennas are for FM radio, also you use Bluetooth headphones to stream the radio to your ear. This is a bad example of your understanding of today's technology and its embarrassing for me to know how handy capped your knowledge is on the features that have been out since early 2014 on very cheap tablets.

The internal FM radio is built to use your headphones as an antenna and also your listening device, a 2 for 1 physics value really. These antennas sort of ruin that, and the headphones probably work much better as a dipole for those frequencies.

I failed. I was taught that "aerial" was just the older term still often used in the UK while "antenna" was a more US-originated usage now more generally adopted especially in professional circles. And technically, surely the principle of reciprocity means that if an antenna is good/bad for receive on particular frequencies it will be likewise for transmit on those same frequencies, the only caveat being power handling on transmit.

But agree there is definitely a cultural aspect to it and maybe also the man/woman in the street might prefer aerial while the engineer will nearly always go for antenna..Could make endless points on the semantics but at the end of the day it doesn't matter.

It would seem this is a safety thing and cell phone makers SHOULD sell a product like this if it can be done -- but I rather convinced it can be done. Being stuck in the desert and just out of range, having a few more dBi of yagi in your backpack is a good and potential live saver. I don't think it has to be super complicated.Just clamp the yagi on the right place and point in the right direction that increases signal. Hey, there are plenty of places I can not get a signal in Anaheim Califorina with my Cell. I got to wolk down to the end of the block to got a signal. Is that it? I believe these only work for the FM radio built in not the cell phone reception. There are many mobile phones and laptops that require headphones pugged in to use as antenna. These antennas that you have are a direct replacement for that purpose only! This product are for people that do not have headphones to plug in to the jack to launch the FM radio app. because it wont launch and will ask you to plug in your headphones. This video is completely out of context.

Yes, my mobile phone won't allow me to use its FM Radio function at all unless it detects there is a plug in the earphone jack. For very local stations, just inserting a plug will get me some reception on its internal speaker. But adding a short length of wire vastly improves the signal. Obviously this will not help with the phone's communication capabilities; the sellers are just happy to con those who don't know any better.
Hello I realise this device is unsuitable however like a lot of people we work mobile in the car a lot of the time and wonder why 4g routers seem to be the only solution suggested for mobile working, to avoid removing sims or a second contract could we not use an external antenna plugged via the usb c and an app to divert from the internal to external antennae? We find using the phone for a hotspot to be more than adequate when we have a signal and would just like to get a greater signal in poor areas. If this is possible would you have any suggestions? @@andrewmcneil my phoone literally works great when held at ceiling height but drops signal when put on a desk. Dont try to claim a means of conveying the signal better would not fix this. To stay online I literally have to place it in a light fixture and then it works great. This is something an antenna or booster could fix.
some phones have external antena ports,especially older models, I would love to see you show us how to make an antenna for this as this is a common problem all around the world, especially in poorer countries @@andrewmcneil
