Absolutely LOVE these kinds of videos, doing audio and VRM testing on bottom of the barrel motherboards is awesome. On that note would it be possible to do some testing on some of MSI new MAX boards? They are updated for 3000 series out of the box but the vrms on those concerns me; just did a build with a b450 max for a friend (couldn't find anything else in stock) and the board didn't seem much better than the ones you just tested here even tho it was much more expensive...

Is that AIO cooler ? That would be highly unrealistic scenario for someone looking into something as cheap as a320. They would probably stick with stock cooler, which would help with VRM temps quite a bit..so showing such test would be probably more usefull for people looking to buy such board. Personally, if I was to buy a320 board, I would probably consider Asrock a320 pro4, good enough for even ryzen 7.

Thanks this is my kind of video love a good a320 or b450 board although using the clc cooler is probably not the best way as most people on a budget will maybe use the stock cooler or an updated down draft cooler which will get the vrm a lot cooler

Hey, very informative video as always. I think there is one improvement you could of made here. An air cooler would be much more appropriate to keep VRM temps under control. I’ve been running a stock 1600x on an A320 mobo with no heat sink on vrm but with wraith cooler for years with no overheating issue.
Thank you for being fair to the A320. So many people are bashing this chipset just because it doesn't cost as much as some others. I have an Asus A320 and it works just fine. The A320 is a value priced motherboard but that doesn't necessarily mean the components are low quality.

Did you test with an aio? Wouldn't testing with the wraith stealth be a better representation of price to performance and also add a little vrm cooling?
yep, Colorful is a brand, they have experience, so I'm not surprised. big problem with these and most 320 MBs is a lack of !ability! to install decent VRM cooling. no holes for heatsink means you have to go with dangerous, ugly or/and permanent solutions to overheating problem. but its cheap... ish, if you start spending money on decent cooling :) Great video as always! The cheapest a320 on Newegg is currently $68 (only $3 more than the highest here) from Gigabyte. I know that board's normal price is closer to $60 too. At the very least a warranty is worth the extra $10 not to mention it arrives in a week not a month.
Thanks for the video. I just purchased an MSI A320M-A Pro Max motherboard to use in an entry level PC on Amazon Warehouse for $55. Hopefully it works well with the Ryzen 1600 AF. Otherwise, I will just use a 3300X.
If possible you should get the 3300X. It's faster than the 1600 AF (even in a lot of multicore workloads - though not in all situations), and significantly more efficient, so should be able to run to its maximum potential on that motherboard.
Colorful actually has decent mobos! Also I'd like to point out that you can just throw on a heatsink as said and a fan! You can find small fans really cheap and I think these these vrm Temps are worst case scenario in an open air bench without direct air cooling! I'm curious how these would do with a 3400g and a stock cooler. That is probably an accurate scenario build for one of these. The stock cooler would flow at least some air over the vrm/soc. Thank you for testing these. It does help to know. It would be a shame if someone on a very tight budget were to buy a bad board design. some of these boards look like they are mini DTX. Might order one for a custom build. I have a case that can't take a micro atx but can take a mini dtx.
Interested to see if the A520 boards are worth it
yes man most of the budget buyers use the down draft stock cooler so vrm temps will be lower .
There is a bios update (from June 2019) for the Challenger on the CN website, not the global (english) one. But I think you already got one with the latest bios.
hey TYC does buying gpu from aliexpress really safe? i have a plan to buy an rx 570 from aliexpress but im still kinda doubt
You should be fine, but have you checked out the local used market? You may find better deals
@@Razor-gx2dq i found aliexpress is cheaper 10$ than my local online shop
@@fauzanbri from your channel I'm assuming you're Indonesian, I would recommend buying in Indonesia because if you're buying from aliexpress there is the new tax system so the $10 difference will be unnoticeable
@@tobiaspauli oh yeah, i just found about about the tax system when i read some article about buying imports. thanks for the information mate
I have gotten fx cpu and a ryzen1200 from ali express all worked all were what i ordered at dirt cheap price
waiting months for it to arrive sucks :/ still waiting on stuff from april...
Yea! I'm done with AliEx. Until that Human malware ends. 2-3 months for delivery is horrible even I'm a quite patient man.
@@falcoquroni1371 is it also going to take a long time even if we use premium shipping or DHL?
Yeah..not a good place to shop..
tried some tiny Raspberry Pi heatsinks on the VRMs?
Have you ever done these audio tests on the MSI-X470-M7AC I built my system for music production mainly so would be interested in the results - That being said I use an external audio interface from Mackie so would it even matter. ( link it if so )
Looking back at how I got an a320mk from Asus for 40cad
I'm curious how these would do with a 3400g and a stock cooler. That is probably an accurate scenario build for one of these. The stock cooler would flow at least some air over the vrm/soc. Thank you for testing these. It does help to know. It would be a shame if someone on a very tight budget were to buy a bad board design. They wouldn't have the financial resources to recover and their build would be F@#%ed.
can you plaster some heatsinks to the colorful board and do the tests again? ty
MSY were selling that Colorful a320 board about a year and a half ago. It was absolutely horrible and I had to RMA as it couldnt even handle the 2200G.
Colourful and Galax? Bought a few GPUs from those brands in the past, worked fine,if memory serves.
I just bought an itx a520 board from onda that doesn't even support my Ryzen 7 3700x boost clock, nor the ram speeds it claims to (claims up to 3600 but only maxes at 2133). I should have spent the extra $40 on the next cheapest board from asrock.
Colorful used to be a decent brand back in the day, but they have relegated themselves to be an OEM for different brands now.
Onda has quite a few unique motherboard designs for different use cases, but their regular pc motherboards are pretty bad.
I bought BioStar B450 MH boards for the job. 60 € a pop for a new board with warranty.
For most people living in NA, Europe or Oceania, it doesn't make much sense to buy any of these, but for someone living in the Philippines or somewhere where the market is really piss poor, it makes a whole lot of sense.
Are you planning to do a UK parts hunt in the future? I have just recently built a new PC and I have a lot of used parts I would donate to you
add 30 bucks and get a B450. the aorus elite is 90 bucks for example. but interresting test
I have an Asrock a320 board with a Ryzen 5 1600af with 3200 memory overclocked to 3400 and an 1650 super, graphics overclocked to 2260 and memory to 3400. Not into games so much so it's good for me
Went with a decent B450 to pair with my 1600 AF my self to provide a decent upgrade path
i got the colorful a320m m.2 pro.with a athlon 3000g prebuilt…ram ddr4 2666..update bios in windows? ram or cpu upgrade suggestion..cool vrm with heatsink ?
Kamusta po build mo sir?
We have ASRock, ASUS and GB AM4 MB's available for less than 60 Euros here in Finland, come with full warranty etc, this Aliexpress silliness just doesnt make any sense. Asrock A320M-HDV R4.0 is 54,90 delivered. if they were like 40-45 Euros delivered, then maybe, but as it is, not worth it. "MAXSUN Motherboard AM4 A320M-VH M.2" is ~52 Euros shipped from Ali, and its at -40% discount atm.. :/ And rest are actually more expensive than the first mentioned ASRock board.
I have a ryzen 5 2600 with 2400 mhz ram. I was considering selling the ram to buy 3200 ram which will probabky boost me $80 AUD but i haven't seen any good benchmarks which show that its worth that much money. Do you think it is worth it to eliminate the ram bottleneck?
Subbed! Can you try the ONDA A320 mini itx?
If you put a vrm cooler like the ones that come with premium motherboard do you think it would make any difference
Does the galax support the ryzen 3 2200G out of the box?
I tested a Colorful X570 with my 3950X ... if using up to 3700X maybe OK but it showed some BODs and weird shutdowns after a while using
There's cheapo mosfet heatsink available on most E store
How about making a vid to test the effectiveness that thing to cool this budget board?
Hey @Tech yes city i have a budget of $900 what should i get for gaming/streaming/video editing. ( i want to buy everything new aswell ! IM FROM AUSTRALIA )
Paul's Hardware just made a revised $900 build, might worth take a look.
Ryzen 2600 or 3600, Vega 56 (maybe 5700 if its cheap in your country)
Look at an nvidia GPU better for streaming
Jxshyy 3600, b450, 16gb 3200mhz, 240gb ssd, 2tb hdd, cheap case, rtx 2060, 500w psu.
@@wisdoom9153 bro I think he's talking about aud not usd
Here in Germany A320 Board from Gigabyte and AsRock come in at 45 Euro or 50 USD so why should i buy the aliexpress one
Sir is the sleep and hibernate working properly??
A320m mobos are actually pretty underrated for ppl who want a basic gaming rig with no special features
I did not know about these mobos. Theres is x370 aliexpress mobos?
Can't you just put some of the block aluminium heatsinks on the VRM to make it cooler ?
I have a question regarding x99 boards. I know that you recently did a video on how to update bios to overclock e5-2630,etc... Can you also update bios on dual motherboards so that both cpu can be overclocked on those AliExpress dual x99 boards??
If you were to use a downdraft cooler instead of an AIO the vrm temps would probably end up a lot better. Most people aren't gonna slap a 240 aio on an a320 board lol.
Use the cooler box. It colds the VRM a bit with air. It doesn’t make sense to buy a cheap Chinese A320 motherboard and use an expensive liquid cooling solution.
It's kinda hard to justify these, when the prices in Europe for the Gigabyte B450M S2H and DS3H are 56e and 60e respectively, and it's impossible to avoid the shipping on the Colorful. The 2 Gigabytes are just miles better in all departments.
Are am4 boards really that expensive in your market ? I've heard they've been getting expensive in the US and in a couple of other markets so I guess Australia aswell.
But here in Belgium I literally can buy a brand new a320 Msi board for 55 euros, that's about 60USD...
MSI motherboards are pure crap.... get an ASRock or an ASUS motherboard. I'd rather use an unknown dodgy chinese mainboard than one from MSI! ASRock A320 mainboards can be had for between 20 and 30 dollars in my country. My MSI intel mainboard from 2016 has begun to fail over time... first it was 2 ram slots that DIED...YES ... DIED! THEN it was the USB3.... I am now waiting to see WHAT comes next...
@@thomasjensen1590 I've had two msi boards that still work to this day. I've had two asus boards, one died and the other is just absolute shit. Never had asrock so I can't say anything about them but msi is far from shit.
@@imnota well my msi mainboard for intel cpus from 2016 is in the trashcan now. It began to loose features over time... first it was 2 out of 4 ram slots that died, then usb 3 died, then sata, my m2 boot ssd still worked though... I finally gave up and bought an asrock mainboard for intel cpus instead. I have had MANY mainboards, but I have NEVER seen anything like that happen before... my first pc was a 80286 and I have had PCs ever since
@@thomasjensen1590 You had one failure and you're judging a whole brand on it. There's nothing else to be said and no further discussion is needed.
@@imnota msi has a bad rep and I have never ever trying anything ... anything like this.... with other brands..... never... with countless mainboards from countless manufacturers
Is it safe to use a Ryzen 5 2600x with a Gigabyte GA-A320M-S2H?
They really need to update the BIOS to make it easier for locking in memory speeds? At that price what incentive do they have?
I actually have that colorful a320. I've put a chunk of heatsink on the vrms that I bought online then problem solved.
For cheapo a320m i only know onda, maxsun, ecs, biostar, galax, colorful but only 3 brand on my country maxsun, ecs, and biostar
Can you do a video about replacing heatsinks from VRMs, chipsets, GPUs, M.2?
Thanks for testing out the low end. Too bad there's no info on B550 low end. I'm looking for a cheap mobo for a Ryzen 5 3600x.
Get an Asrock b550 or b550m pro4 mobo.
There are A520 mobos on the way, but IDK if it will be worthy aside of the CPU compatibility.
If you don't need PCIe 4.0 and only want to use a 3600X, just get an A320 (with a VRM heatsink) or a B450... or hell, even an X370 - these are getting pretty cheap right now.
If you want PCIe 4.0 and overclocking, go for B550 ASRock Pro4 (as Mike mentioned) or MSI Pro VDH.
Is the ASRock A320m HDV r4.0 a good motherboard cuz it's the cheapest in my area, tq.
It sucks that these deals apparently are never available in the US. Because whenever I order anything from AliExpress nothing ever comes and then I have to get a refund
Onda straight outta 2009 with that bios.
