I found this movie by accident I was flipping channels and landed on HBO years ago and caught this right from the start glad I found it that day it is such a good movie.
Pretty much describes the life of the actor who played teenage C. Sometime in the 2000s, he went to go steal a car or break into a house and in the process either he or his partner killed the guy who was a off duty cop.
This movie is based on the life of Chazz Palminteri - the actor who plays Sonny. His real name is Calogero. That bus scene gives me chills. One of the purest depictions of love at first sight I’ve ever seen.

Chaz did date a black girl in real life. The movie was originally a one man play Chaz did and the story probably caught DeNiro’s eye because of that lol
That's great. I remember when I was first dating my fiancee and tried the door test on her. Did the whole thing, walked around the car, looked at the window, got to my side...nothing. Even made eye contact with her for several seconds. She just sits there smiling. I was crazy about her though, so I didn't really care. When I finally get in the car, she goes 'What do you think this is, A Bronx Tale?" we started cracking up. Her level of game always surpasses mine 😂
I mean that's just common decency. I wouldn't praise a woman for unlocking the door. And this doesn't even apply anymore. Everyone can open their car doors before they even get to their car.

As someone who grew up in NYC in the 70's, this film brings back so many memories. The mob really were like this at that time. My father had to pay protection money to them for years. No joke.
My grandparents had a similar experience in 1960s London. They owned a little shop in Bethnal Green and payed for protection to the Kray Twins. But they didn't do it against their will. They were afraid of the Krays rivals called the Torture Gang so they went with the Krays. Tbh alot of people that lived in London during that era still have favourable views of the Ronnie and Reggie because they looked after the folks in Bethnal Green

Donnie Brasco and The Departed are about losing your identity and morals when you're undercover, while A Bronx Tale is a story of a.boy being raised by two men with different ideas of morality who.both want the best for him
One of my favorites when you think of the old school gangster flicks. A lot of life lessons in this movie. Donnie Brasco goes under the radar a bit as well.
I am so glad you two reacted to this memorable movie and how much you to genuinely enjoyed and understood it. A gf of mine took me to see this movie just as it was in it's final showing at the theatres and I was floored...not just due to it's obvious story telling artistry and filmography, but that it was so under-appreciated & under recognized. It was an under-rated gem that has grown to become a significant classic that should be seen by so many. THANKS SO MUCH!!!
I'm very glad that you all liked this movie! The Bronx Tale has grown with a cult like following and over the years remains ever fresh & popular. Chazz still travels the country and recites the entire screenplay live in a one man show....all the characters come alive ...the audience is left spellbound; just ike the early days in the mid-80s when he would perform it in LA restaurants. Great script, great production !¡!
A lot of quotable lines, a lot of life lessons. Even though it’s based on the Bronx, a lot of those scenes were shot in Queens. In real life, the actor who played the older Calogero was involved in the shooting of a police officer. He didn’t do the shooting though but he did some time.
“The saddest thing in life is wasted talent.” A quote from the film, that applied just as well to real-life. The actor who played the older C/Calogero, was an up and coming actor, and a threw it all away for a stupid mistake.
I love this movie, and I don't care for gangster movies. I remember after the first time my wife and I saw this (Blockbuster rental...lol). We went grocery shopping later that afternoon. I opened the door for her and I looked through the rear window, Just like "C." It was solidified right there. She is my Great One. We just celebrated 26 years married and 30 years together. Thanks Sonny. 😉😃
De Niro, who first viewed the play in Los Angeles in 1990, acquired the rights from Palminteri this launched Palminteri's acting career, while also helping De Niro gain acceptance as a director. It was a double whammy for the entertainment business and chazz was known globally now vs being a pretty well known one man Broadway show
I saw Chaz Palmentari (Sonny) perform this as a one-man show at Playhouse 91 in NYC. That was the same production that Robert DiNero saw and decided he wanted to make a movie of it. One of the most incredible theater performances I ever attended. Dream Girls in Boston before it opened on Broadway, Patrick Stewart' one-man A Christmas Carol in NYC. Many of the scenes actually were filmed in my old neighborhood in Astoria Queens. I remember seeing those period buses on the avenue when they were filming, Great memories of my time in New York.
Bronx tale soundtrack got lots of play when i worked at a pizza parlor . We were only aloud to play italian music so when the boss would come in he would get all mad THIS IS NOT ITALIAN MUSIC ! 😂
I got goosebumps watching BJ grab Asias hand when they were singing to King Floyds Loving! I love watching the two of you together. Do more old school films, please.
Great movie. I REALLY liked the character of Sonny. He had a lot of wisdom, decency and character under all that exterior. That car door test actually SO much sense.
I grew up in the Bronx in to 1960's. My High school was on the edge of the Italian section. If you got caught in the wrong place you got beat. Italian and Irish kids caught in our area were beat and chased by Blacks and Latinos
13:44 Espresso shot, not tea... The popular way we do “fancy” coffee here in America comes from Italy and the way Italians do coffee which the company Starbucks copied, “Barista” means “bartender” or “barmaid” in Italian. Most of our coffee drinks are based off of shots of espresso and hot/steamed/foamed milk.
My mind was officially BLOWN when I recently realized that young Calogero was played by the same actor who played Weevil on Veronica Mars. Anyway, I love this move.
I've always loved this movie. I was a small town kid, but I met this guy when I was in the Marines. He took me to New Jersey and I learned quick the Italian culture. Totally different but very interesting. Good job, you two. 👏
Not only is this one of the best “Mob Movies “ it’s one of the best films to come out in the 1990’s. Chaz’s one man show ,which I was lucky to see,is amazing and if you ever get a chance to see it,I highly recommend it
I grew up in the Italian Bronx (1950s to 1979). I left in 1980 for South Beach, Miami. A miracle to still be alive in 2023. I have seen mamy many hard dark days!!!!
Glad you reacted to this one, guys. Really enjoyed watching along with you. Jane is just every guy's dream. The 'Button Test' in this movie always brings a tear to my eye. Sadly too late for me. My (ex-) wife _never_ passed the button test, although I always did it for her. : /
I really love A Bronx Tale. It feels more real than a lot of gangster movies because it acknowledges the racism a lot of those guys had, instead of just making them seem cool and badass. They feel more complex and human. I enjoyed re-experiencing it with you all.
I'm new to your channel and this was such a FANTASTIC reaction. I loved your chemistry together cause y'all was just 'vibing' while you watched. This movie is one of my FAVORITES for all of the reasons you mentioned and then some. The man that played Sonny is named CHAZ PALMENTERI ; and he HAS been around in various movies, and the last I checked also had a Podcast. I look forward to watching MANY more of your reactions to come. 👍💖😀☺
Out of curiosity I googled the worth of 160 dollars in the 1960s and says about 1600! 😮 This is one of my favorite "mobster" movies with one of my favorite reactors! Great reaction guys! The saddest thing in life is waisted talent
Actor, Lillo Brancato, who played teen "C" had legal issues that sent him to prison in 2009 for 1st degree attempted burglary. Lillo had faced second degree murder, but jury found not guilty on that charge. Lillo released on parole in 2013. Lillo disappointed both Robert and Chazz. Lillo tried to make contact with them. Lillo went back to acting.
Biker scene is most disturbing scene too. Another comment from another reactor knew the real bikers who gotten ass beaten by the crew. One of bikers stated they were very lucky that they survived those beatings. I didn't know "bikers" are Hell Angels members participating in that scene. Zito helped Chazz for the scene especially "bikers" written to be attacked by the crew in the club.
East New York is in Brooklyn, not too far from JFK Airport. I live in NYC, each borough is like it's own city. When you're in one of the 5, you know right off the bat which borough you're in. The Bronx is definitely the roughest borough but it also gets a bad rap. There are plenty of amazing places. Obviously everyone knows Yankee Stadium but the Botanical Gardens, the Zoo, City Island and Arthur Avenue (NYC's real Little Italy) are all in the Bronx. Arthur Avenue is the setting for A Bronx Tale (despite it being filmed mostly in Astoria).
This was based on a one-man show written and performed on stage by Chazz Palminteri who played "Sonny" in the film. The play was obviously expanded to make it cinematic. "Jane" was played by Taral Hicks who did some more acting here and there and also recorded an R&B album for Motown in 1997 (age 23) that was co-produced by Teddy Riley. You may remember Chazz Palminteri from "The Usual Suspects" and a number of other films. This performance back in 1993 brought him his first widespread attention.
You forgot to add that the character C was based on chaz's childhood. He actually saw a guy get shot while on the stoop and that was the real coffee cake or mush in the movie I can't remember which. Also chuck Zito brought in real hells angles to be the bikers
Chazz Palminteri's real name is Calogero Lorenzo Palminteri. His father really was a busdriver, and really did say, "The working man is the hero." He also claims he really did see a murder in front of his house when he was a kid, and the gangsters really did take him under their wings when he didn't tell. And he originally wrote the story as a one man show in which he played all the characters. His performance as the character Sonny may have been a combination of several different men in his neighborhood. And that was part of the story. You may remember in the beginning, Calogero, and his friends were immitating the gangsters.
Watching this in your early teens really teaches you about individual thinking and values, at least helped me more than any other movie ever came close to. But more importantly i learned about the Mario test.
i watched that movie after you recommended it.. Holy Hell what an Awesome!!!!! movie. Full On wicked 😵.. i keep my doors locked at night because of the movie💀☠️☠️🙀
I went through a phase when I was a kid and gobbled up all of these "mob" movies. This one was always my favorite. The completely different perspective is what I think did it for me. The direction was amazing also, who knew he had it. It's like the hood version of the Sand Lot LOL xD
So Awesome you got to see this. This is one of my favs that is always rewatchable. Since you enjoyed this coming of age story located in the Bronx in the 60s, I know y'all will enjoy .... The WANDERERS (1979) For more Chaz Palminteri definitely add The Usual Suspects (1995) For more DeNiro...HEAT (1995), and Casino (1995), The Untouchables (1987) and of course Godfather, Part II (1974)
Years ago I came up on this movie accidentally. It came on one night while scrolling the channels, and I was curious to see what it was. From the beginning to the end I was captivated. Even though it’s not an action movie or anything the story draws you in. I loved the attraction/relationship of C. and Jane, and I was just as psyched as he was when Jane unlocked the door for him. Yes, she’s one of the great ones! I absolutely loved this movie from the first time I watched it.
I love this movie so much. So many life lessons based on a real life. I still get such a kick out of the gambling scene. Everybody on time out in the bathroom. 😂
Man, I've been asking people to react to this movie for years, and no one would do it, so i stopped asking haha ♡ I've watched this movie at least 300 times, know every word beginning to end lol
love that y'all got your popcorn and blankets lol so cute. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The lessons, the acting and of course the love story of C and Jane. 🥰 also Asia yelling "put him in the bathroom!" had me rolling
This movie is a real sleeper, it captures that time perfectly in the early 60's. Love, coming of age, racial tensions , mis-understandings, loyalty and the mob! You guys are covering it all!
Bronx raised third generation Sicilian-American here. My entire family grandparents, aunts, cousins, all of us lived there. I can attest to the general accuracy of this movie. I taught for a few years in the Belmont/Fordham local HS (Theodore Roosevelt) and I used to explain things to the kids. I'd say, "hey you know up on Belmont Avenue there are buildings NOBODY would ever dare to tag (graffiti). And why not? We know guys who would even tag a cop car, so why not those buildings with all the clean bricks?" "Well...Mister...we don't wanna die..." I said "that's power". Capiche?
A Bronx Tale is one of those movies. We're you either know it or you don't. If you know it, You Love it. If you don't know it, you're missing out.

A lot of quotable lines, a lot of life lessons. Even though it’s based on the Bronx, a lot of those scenes were shot in Queens. In real life, the actor who played the older Calogero was involved in the shooting of a police officer. He didn’t do the shooting though but he did some time.
Both versions of C have done a little time. Francis Capra had some legal troubles as well
“The saddest thing in life is wasted talent.”
A quote from the film, that applied just as well to real-life. The actor who played the older C/Calogero, was an up and coming actor, and a threw it all away for a stupid mistake.
@@ReelMeurik Also, I believe he did a documentary about his life and called it Wasted Talent
Fun fact: Eddie "Mush" was played by the real Eddie Mush.
Great job! I can't believe more people haven't reacted to this classic.
One of the best movies.. I ❤ it
De Niro, who first viewed the play in Los Angeles in 1990, acquired the rights from Palminteri this launched Palminteri's acting career, while also helping De Niro gain acceptance as a director.
I remember seeing those period buses on the avenue when they were filming,
Great memories of my time in New York.
Bronx tale soundtrack got lots of play when i worked at a pizza parlor . We were only aloud to play italian music so when the boss would come in he would get all mad THIS IS NOT ITALIAN MUSIC ! 😂
This is Def up there on my favorite "serious" movies of all time for sure! I've watched it probably 100 times over the years
I got goosebumps watching BJ grab Asias hand when they were singing to King Floyds Loving! I love watching the two of you together. Do more old school films, please.
"NOW YOU'SE CAN'T LEAVE"
Brilliant film ❤
Great movie. I REALLY liked the character of Sonny. He had a lot of wisdom, decency and character under all that exterior. That car door test actually SO much sense.
I grew up in the Bronx in to 1960's. My High school was on the edge of the Italian section. If you got caught in the wrong place you got beat. Italian and Irish kids caught in our area were beat and chased by Blacks and Latinos
and vice versa
13:44 Espresso shot, not tea... The popular way we do “fancy” coffee here in America comes from Italy and the way Italians do coffee which the company Starbucks copied, “Barista” means “bartender” or “barmaid” in Italian. Most of our coffee drinks are based off of shots of espresso and hot/steamed/foamed milk.
34:33 yall so cute its ridiculous! i hope the love you 2 have for eachother is always enough! classic movie, great reaction!
"now you can't leave" is one of hardest lines of all time
My mind was officially BLOWN when I recently realized that young Calogero was played by the same actor who played Weevil on Veronica Mars. Anyway, I love this move.
I love this movie*
Underrated film. Glad you two could enjoy this.
This movie is definitely one of the best. It hits a lot of different angles. Great reaction guys.
- “DONNIE BRASCO” - (1997) W Jonny Depp and Al Pacino 🔥🔥
I'm glad you all like this movie 🎥! I like this movie too.❤ FYI watch A GUIDE TO RECOGNIZING YOUR ANGELS more Chazz!
LOVE this film. Everything from the acting, writing and directing is top tier. Glad y'all liked it too 💖
Wow. I saw A Bronx Tale on Broadway and Chazz Palminteri's one man show A Bronx Tale off Broadway. One of my top 5 movies. Great reaction by you guys.
The mother is Arnie's wife on the Sopranos
I don't understand how this movie isn't bigger than it is. This was a great movie.
The irony of his friends playing Jimi Hendrix as well…
Exactly
This is one of my favorite "mobster" movies with one of my favorite reactors!
Taral's cover of "Silly" by Deniece Williams was actually really good. She had a nice voice.
Love yall, the way you two go back and forth acting a fool.....LOL Just like my wife and I. Appreciate yall
Watching this in your early teens really teaches you about individual thinking and values, at least helped me more than any other movie ever came close to. But more importantly i learned about the Mario test.
Great choice! Terrific movie. Another movie I'd like you two watch is " No Country For Old Men."
i watched that movie after you recommended it..
Nobody dared to come into the Italian ghetto where I grew up; the baseball bats would come out. True story.
*******STICKBALL was played in those Neighborhoods because there wasn't enough Space to play traditional Baseball.
So Awesome you got to see this. This is one of my favs that is always rewatchable. Since you enjoyed this coming of age story located in the Bronx in the 60s, I know y'all will enjoy .... The WANDERERS (1979)
For more Chaz Palminteri definitely add The Usual Suspects (1995)
For more DeNiro...HEAT (1995), and Casino (1995), The Untouchables (1987) and of course Godfather, Part II (1974)
Heyyyy you guys! 🙌🏻🤓💕
Much love from your subscribed Bronx Italian girl 😅
Hey! 🙋🏻♂️ Hello from an Albanian friend! We’re close 😂
@@BigPete44 lol hey!!
"He tap dancin like he Gregory Hynes " had me rolling. Thanks for that one B.J
I love this movie so much. So many life lessons based on a real life. I still get such a kick out of the gambling scene. Everybody on time out in the bathroom. 😂
Also that bar fight was so crazy. So many great moments in this.
Good Fellas was primarily Queens
Man, I've been asking people to react to this movie for years, and no one would do it, so i stopped asking haha ♡
I've watched this movie at least 300 times, know every word beginning to end lol
FYI, Chazz Palmenteri who plays Sonny has a UA-cam channel and sometimes talks about stories and lessons from when he grew up in the Bronx.
This is one of my all time favorite films. You all did great with your reaction.
I swear every damn reaction to this movie cuts the best part "The working man's the tough guy, your father's the tough guy!"
love that y'all got your popcorn and blankets lol so cute. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The lessons, the acting and of course the love story of C and Jane. 🥰 also Asia yelling "put him in the bathroom!" had me rolling
Fun fact, the actress who plays Jane(Taral Hicks) also plays Kisha in Belly, DMX's girlfriend. Fine back then, still fine to this day.
This movie is a real sleeper, it captures that time perfectly in the early 60's. Love, coming of age, racial tensions , mis-understandings, loyalty and the mob! You guys are covering it all!
"Now youse can't leave..." One of favorite movie quotes that I say all the time.
I can't wait to watch this one! One of my top 5. Thank you guys for being you!
I live in Yonkers and see Lilo (Colagero) from time to time. He’s such a nice man, you would’ve never guessed he went to prison.
Such a beautiful couple. Great chemistry, fun to watch. Keep it up guys!
Capiche?
"The saddest thing in life is wasted talent"
39:12- at least he doesn't have to worry about his friends anymore.
Donnie Brasco on the cards?
