The scene where Jimmy is telling Karen to go around the corner for the dresses, but she knew that he was going to kill her, I grew up down the street from where they were in Brooklyn. I remember when they were making this movie, all the kids would stand around, watching them. I was just a kid, as well, and I thought it was so exciting, plus my father was a huge De Niro fan (Rest in peace, Dad).
I don’t think he planned to kill her or Henry personally, I think he was paying to have a third party kidnap her to lure Henry to a discreet location… to kill both of them. Jimmy of course would know nothing about it
The creator of the Sopranos called this movie his handbook for creating the perfect Mafia story. It's not coincidence that so many actors from Goodfellas appeared in the Sopranos.
They occasionally paid homage too. For instance, it's no coincidence that Christopher makes the guy in the pastry shop dance and shoot him in the foot.
Tony Sirico (he plays Paulie Walnuts in that show) is seen early on in the movie; the last you see him is when Karen gets out of the car, yelling at Henry about getting stood up.
The theory on why the real Tommy was so “crazy” was supposedly his brother was an informant so to make up for someone in his family being a “snitch” Tommy was an out of control tough guy
I know how he felt about the brother. but you can't put a whole antisocial psychopathic personality and tendencies like he had on the will to proove yourself

For real. It reminds us all why DeNiro was an absolute beast as an actor during this period. Roles in classics such as Raging Bull, Deer Hunter, Taxi Driver. Before he sold his soul taking parts in hack movies over the last 15 years.
Its kind of comical the way hes staring at Morrie when the Eric Clapton song starts. You know what hes thinking but its kind of funny and he makes deciding to kill someone look really cool lol

Paul Sorvino, who played Paulie, was apparently one of the nicest people you could meet. When he got the role, he didn't know how to play someone so ruthless. You guys should react to a Bronx tale! Whenever Joe Pesci plays a hothead in a mob movie he usually dies. While people like that could usually be useful as enforcers they had a habit of bringing unwanted attention to themselves. In this movie he killed a “made guy” without getting the appropriate approval. What’s worse is it was a Gambino member one of the five families. I don’t think it’s explicitly mentioned in the movie but Paulie’s character was a caporegime for the Lucchese family another of the five. Which is why Henry told Karen he was a union rep for construction/waste management as that was a “legitimate” they had a controlling interest in. It’s not explicitly mentioned in the movie but there’s subtle references to the fact Karen was having an affair with Paulie. Like him sending Henry to Florida after their big fight saying he would talk to Karen. That relationship is what would allegedly be the reason Tommy was killed as Karen told Paulie about Billy Bats and after Tommy tried doing something to Karen Paulie told the Gambino’s. (At least according to the real Henry Hill which isn’t actually that reliable a source) Henry wasn’t actually that important in real life which is why he survived being kicked out of witness protection. It was a turbulent time for the mob and everyone that would’ve wanted him dead was already locked up or dead.
Paulie’s slap to Hill’s face when warning him against drug dealing was improvised by Paul Sorvino, hence Ray Liotta’s surprised expression was genuine. Also Tommy was based on Tommy ‘two gun’ Desimone who stood 6’2 and over 200 lbs. According to Henry Hill he was every bit the psycho he was in the movie, sometimes shooting people just to test out new guns he’d obtained to see how well they worked.
The real Henry Hill said the movie guys "Made Tommy look _nicer than he really was."__ "He was a real homicidal maniac." (then uncomfortable laughter).

oh Asia, I was squirming when you said "no violence" at the very beginning because I knew you were not going to get your wish. Such a great movie, and I really enjoyed both of your reactions.
What I love about this movie is the timing. At the beginning, it's kinda slow moving, in the middle it moves along well, by the end, it's frantic and gritty... Absolute brilliance. Oh, and the sound track, especially Into The 🔥 Fire.....
😂😂 Asia: “Don’t try me.” **Literally any fictional character in any film threatens violence and gives a command to someone** Asia (before the character can read their own lines): “Ok.” 😂😂
In terms of playing mob guys Pesci is the undisputed #1 ever. Most real mob guys from that time said Pesci played them the most accurately. Not for being a maniac, just the way he'd talk and his mannerisms, he absolutely nailed his role as Tommy and he did an amazing job as Nicky in Casino, basically the same character but maybe slightly less crazy
A lot of people say this is the best movie ever made. It's hard to disagree. It's truly incredible. The suspense and the way they depict paranoia when DeNiro is telling Henry's wife to look around the corner for the dresses, was subtly and through just inflection and dialogue, insanely suspenseful. Absolutely one of my favorites
I actually saw Goodfellas in the theatre in Oct 1990, we were in the next theatre over watching "Mr. Destiny" when we decided to walk out 10 minutes into the film...went next door thinking this can't be worse than what we almost sat through. I never heard of Goodfellas until I was in the theatre seeing it. You should've seen the people's reaction seeing the "you're a funny guy scene"...I will never forget the experience of seeing this in Hawthorne movie theatre which doesn't even exist anymore. I think it's now an Audi dealership.
According to Michael Franzese, who was a boss in the Colombo family, Henry Hill, who passed away back in 2012 was a troubled sole, with a serious drug and alcohol problem. He said the real Henry Hill had nowhere near the status portrayed in the movie. I think it's one of the best movies ever made.
Henry probably was as big of hitter as Franzese was. There was a lot more ways to earn back then. I respect Michael Franzese, but I take what he says with a grain of salt. After all Scorsese never made a movie about Michael Franzese.
@@laudanum669 Because Franzese didn't get interviewed for Pileggi's book. ;) That said, Franzese is a true BS artist. He likes to pretend he's a reformed criminal who found religion, but if you listen to what he says, he's still deep into that criminal/conman mentality. So what he said about Hill can't be trusted. Neither can what Hill said about Hill, though.
The name of the book was “Wiseguy” by Nick Pileggi. There was a TV show by that name and Martin Scorsese had to call the movie something else, so they came up with “Goodfellas.” Mob guys are called Wiseguys in New York.
As a gal from Brooklyn originally, I felt like that could have been my family. We got Tonys, Frankie's, Annette, Joannas, Paulies and Carmines. Just to name a few. Lol I love this movie I. So glad you all did too. 🩷
For the NY circa 1970s,80s Italian accent, watch Eddie Murphy's Raw when he talks about Italians and Rocky. I'm half Italian and grew up in NY before moving to TX. He nailed it! No joke. Even Italians didn't know they were talking like that before he pointed it out. Classic. Thank you Eddie Murphy 😊
Great reactions guys 🤩 Another classic is The Godfather with Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan and Talia Shire who also played Rocky's wife. Godfather part 2 & 3 complete the family story, well worth checking out.
THANK YOU for this!.. Goodfellas is one of my top-5 all time favorite flicks. Watching you guys enjoy it (and so many other great movies) for the first time is so much fun! There is so much about this movie that is top-notch film making. If not for The Godfather, this would be the greatest gangster film made.
@ReelinwithAsiaandBJ The thing about this movie is it's not far off at all from how things were. I grew up in NY at that time and it truly was like the wild west. All kinds of crime was rampant, you really didn't want to wander too far from your own 'hood or be out at night, the subway was a total nightmare 24/7; and the mob did have a hold on waste management and construction and few other industries. (Ironically, one of the US Attorneys back in the '80s to try the mob on RICO charges was Rudy Guiliani!) The daily papers would actually print crime scene photos of hits on the front page. The Luftansa heist happened too, my mom always had the radio on in the morning while getting us ready for school and I remember her hushing us so she could hear the report, then later on it and the hits that followed were something all the adults were talking about.
Two fun facts: 1. My dad was friends with Lorraine Bracco’s (Karen) cousin for most of his life, they were best friends but he sadly passed away. 2. The scene where Jimmy tried to whack Karen was actually filmed in my neighborhood.
Carroll Gardens! My daughter and son-in-law lived in that neighborhood for many years. I used to look for the diamond window above the door that Lorraine Bracco walks by as we drove by.
@@diane39istockphoto Yes, that’s the place. My family on both sides has lived in this neighborhood for over 65 years! I’ve grown up here all my life. It’s become heavily gentrified unfortunately, and most of the old timers are almost completely gone now. Really sad to see that gentrification is driving out the people who have lived there for generations unfortunately.
@@kadijasummaya3885 Yes...I know it's becoming ridiculously unaffordable now. My daughter moved to the suburbs and has a house and a yard for way less than their apt in Carroll Gardens. Sad.
This reaction has the single best line ever from a reactor thanks to Asia, "I wonder if Paulie ever found out about the Gambini", still making me laugh.
Fun Fact: in Goodfellas, director Martin Scorsese brought his parents Catherine and Charles to play both the mother of Joe Pesci's character and as the cook from the prison scene.
It's Scorcese. He pulls no punches. This movie is one of his top three ever, along with Raging Bull and Taxi Driver. It is easily one of the top 10 movies of the 1990s. The change in tone as the movie moves along in time from the early 1960s to the 1970s is subtle but engrossing. It becomes increasingly more frantic and disjointed as things become unraveled in Henry's life and among the mob members. Joe Pesci manages to convey sheer terror with his insanity just below the surface of Tommy's character. That this masterpiece didn't win Best Picture at the Oscars was a joke.
4:48 when you mentioned sopranos, literally right when your screen cuts away and the dude gets up out of the car, that guy getting out of the car is the actor who played Paulie walnuts on sopranos. So many reoccurring actors in sopranos who either got their start on goodfellas or stuck around throughout the crime drama genre.
I love the doo-wop vocals around "C" 's high school when he meets his girl Jane, it just sets the emotional, romantic and sadly dangerous tone of their involvement with each other. It's the first thing that hits me when anyone mentions A Bronx Tale, as you just did. A special film.
You might enjoy that a cartoon from back in the 90s called The Animaniacs had a segment called The Goodfeathers based off of this movie and 1 of the pigeons was just like Joe Pesci 😆

I know what I'm doing tonight. Watching you guys react to this glorious movie!! Definitely a classic. 10 out of 10 for me. You guys should do Casino if you haven't seen I yet. A lot of the same characters are in Casino as this one.
My favorite piece of trivia from this movie: in the scene where Karen is on top of Henry with the gun in his face, watch as he exits the scene. He steps on her hand! You can see her react to it and if you watch Ray's face, right before he leaves the screen, he has an "oh shit" look on his face lol
Another movie I think you'll like in the true life mob/crime genre that explains the structure of the mob "families" (although still enhanced for Hollywood) is "Donnie Brasco" from 1997 starring Johnny Depp. Depp also did a scary-good job portraying real life Boston Irish mobster James Bulger in 2015's "Black Mass". And, just to round out the unbelievable Johnny Depp real life criminal movie lineup, you can throw in "Blow" from 2001. Make a day of it .
Black Mass is very underrated. Fun fact, Whitey Bulger actually took shelter for a time in my town - Budd Lake, NJ. The FBI came looking for him but he was long gone.

(At least according to the real Henry Hill which isn’t actually that reliable a source)
Henry wasn’t actually that important in real life which is why he survived being kicked out of witness protection. It was a turbulent time for the mob and everyone that would’ve wanted him dead was already locked up or dead.
Karen never knew about Bats, though? Henry told her it was a skunk or something while washing the trunk of his car
I’m so glad you liked it 🫶🏽 This is my favorite Mob movie besides The Godfather 1&2 and Casino 🖤🖤
Donnie brasco
R.I.P., Ray Liotta.
The Copacabana scene is one continuous shot. Probably the best scene in the movie. Scorsese is a genius.
Interesting bit of trivia about Tommy's character. The guy that actually pulled the trigger and took him out in real life was John Gotti.
@@naelar13 really??
@@drewt5217 Yeah that's the common rumor, Paulie clued him in on what Tommy did to Bats.
Allegedly, Tommy was really close to Stacks and maybe the one person he felt bad about killing.
The real Henry Hill said the movie guys "Made Tommy look _nicer than he really was."__ "He was a real homicidal maniac." (then uncomfortable laughter).
You guys never seen Goodfellas? “Now Go Get Your Friggin Shinebox!” 😂🤣💪
"what do you mean? I'm funny how?" "I'm a clown? I'm here to amuse you?" 😂
You know, the way you tell the story, what?
Remember this line for the Sopranos
So many classic lines! 😂
Yeah yeah c'mon c'mon feel strong....
My dad, long time deceased, actually grew up in Rockaway Point with Jimmy Burke (the DiNiro character). He was a tough kid too.
"I said no violence" Poor Asia 😂😂😂😂
Lol I laughed at that. I guess she forgot she was watching a based on a true story Mafia movie
I’m new to your channel and I just want to thank you both for keeping it real and not deleting the scenes like so many other people that do reviews on classic movies ! I enjoyed your reviews !
Thank you !
THIS is a reaction channel. I’ve been watching for awhile and I truly wish you two the MOST success ever. You both have worked so hard and put out sooo many movie, show, and song reactions! You seem like really amazing people..with Really beautiful souls. ❤ I wish you two the best and then some. You TRULY deserve it. Thank you.
oh Asia, I was squirming when you said "no violence" at the very beginning because I knew you were not going to get your wish. Such a great movie, and I really enjoyed both of your reactions.
RIP Ray Liotta. You are truly missed.
Love this film. So glad you reacted to it. RIP Ray Liotta
What I love about this movie is the timing. At the beginning, it's kinda slow moving, in the middle it moves along well, by the end, it's frantic and gritty... Absolute brilliance. Oh, and the sound track, especially Into The 🔥 Fire.....
This movie is a classic that must not and cannot ever be redone.
😂😂
Asia: “Don’t try me.”
**Literally any fictional character in any film threatens violence and gives a command to someone**
Asia (before the character can read their own lines): “Ok.”
😂😂
😂😂😂
😂😂😂
In terms of quality of output, Joe Pesci is a sheer GOAT at delivering a character. Just a GOAT. 😎🥃
Goat how, Rocco ? You think I bleat like a damn fuckin' horny lawnmover ?
character???
that's him.
he doesn't even know he's in the movies!
The elderly lady who played Joe Pesci's mother, was actually the director's mom, Mr Martin Scorsesee.
And the kitchen scene was improvised
@@shadowfaxcrx5141 Yeah that is for sure. Any Wise guy is going to say whatever he has to.
If you notice he's not really portrayed as a heavy hitter in the movie
@@smithblack100 That's true.
Possibly the greatest movie of all time in my opinion
It's honestly hard to argue against.
The name of the book was “Wiseguy” by Nick Pileggi. There was a TV show by that name and Martin Scorsese had to call the movie something else, so they came up with “Goodfellas.” Mob guys are called Wiseguys in New York.
Omg I was so in love with Ken Wahl (Vinny Terranova.)
He was one handsome dog.
As a gal from
Brooklyn originally, I felt like that could have been my family.
So happy to watch this with you. I love this movie!!!! Hi from Bklyn, NY. ✌
This movie is so much fun, the soundtrack really makes the film zip along as well. There isnt a dull moment in it
RIP Ray Liotta. ❤
Two fun facts:
Sad.
My favorite movie of all time. I think many would agree that it's one of the best movies ever made. Glad y'all enjoyed it!
Easily in the top 5 of all time. Newest Scorsese film is also incredible
This reaction has the single best line ever from a reactor thanks to Asia, "I wonder if Paulie ever found out about the Gambini", still making me laugh.
Coincidentally Joe Pesci plays someone named Gambini in My Cousin Vinny.
@@introvertboricua787it's from the show "fugget bout it" too
Oh man, I’m so glad you two finally are watching this…what a great movie. The real life events and characters are so fascinating as well….cheers 🍻
Love Goodfellas! Love gangster movies! Next, you gotta do the Godfather! I'm glad to hear you been watching the Sopranos! ♥️✌️
BJ right when he said it is waste management clearing all the bodies lol glad you guys enjoyed it!
Since you enjoyed this you will definitely also enjoy A BRONX TALE.
u a fool fool
my favorite movie
Finally
I love the doo-wop vocals around "C" 's high school when he meets his girl Jane, it just sets the emotional, romantic and sadly dangerous tone of their involvement with each other. It's the first thing that hits me when anyone mentions A Bronx Tale, as you just did. A special film.
Asias laugh is the best! Love this movie such a classic
Ray Liota, one of the actors in this just died not too long ago. May he RIP!
You might enjoy that a cartoon from back in the 90s called The Animaniacs had a segment called The Goodfeathers based off of this movie and 1 of the pigeons was just like Joe Pesci 😆
You two are the absolute best reaction channel ♡ Between the charm and fantastic editing reaction choices, you both are leading the game. Thank you both for reacting to this gem of a film. I genuinely can't wait until you both react to the spiritual sequel to this, Casino.
These 2 held hands, when Henry went on the Copacabana date.
I'm amazed at how many reactor never show any feeling or reaction to their spouse/partner, even if the person is crying.
If you like these movies then check out Donnie Brasco. Another one based on a true story. Best AL Paccino in my opinion.
Such a brilliant movie.
The cast is top notch in that. Pacino, Depp, Madsen. Hell even Bruno Kirby is still around in that :)
9:36 This scene became a popular meme of Ray Liotta's character laughing.
One of my all time favorite movies!!! Such a great cast…and to think it is based off a true story
One of the greatest movies of all time! Based on actual events! Tommy(Joe Pesci) was as crazy in real life as he was in the movie.
A masterpiece of filmmaking.
The best! Now you have to do The Godfather 1&2, Raging Bull , Casino and Donnie Brasco.
I know what I'm doing tonight. Watching you guys react to this glorious movie!! Definitely a classic. 10 out of 10 for me. You guys should do Casino if you haven't seen I yet. A lot of the same characters are in Casino as this one.
The helicopter sequence is one of the greatest in film history. So well done. I can’t not watch this when it’s on tv.
Hearing Asia say "they didn't even wait 5 minutes" is awesome, every time.
“He’s tap dancing on his head”! “Babe why you gotta say that?” Killed me 😂😂😂😂😂
One of the best gangster movies! Up there with The Godfather and Scarface.
Poor Asia might cry with Scarface. Haha. Between the chainsaw shower scene and the last scene she might never recover
You two crack me up after they got married & she was at a hostess party 🎉you both said “what’s up with her hair?” 😂😆👊👍
Goodfellas is an excellent film, it’s great to see you two watch it. Hope you’re having a great day!
Y'all are adorable together! I enjoyed your reax to one of my all time faves.
My favorite piece of trivia from this movie: in the scene where Karen is on top of Henry with the gun in his face, watch as he exits the scene. He steps on her hand! You can see her react to it and if you watch Ray's face, right before he leaves the screen, he has an "oh shit" look on his face lol
Great reaction, Asia and BJ! “Tap dancing” and “waste management” 😂😂😂😂
Loved Black Mass. Don't forget Public Enemies where he portrays John Dillinger.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time I’m so glad you 2 enjoyed it, you guys have to watch “Casino” and “Donnie Brasco”now, Love you guys keep up the great content all the time much love and support!!!
"It's just part of waste management, Asia!" made me laugh.
Best gangster movie ever!!! In my humble opinion. It's based on a true story. I just started the vid, but my prediction is that you will really like the movie. You guys do great reactions. Enjoy the film!!!
If you enjoyed Good Fellas, then you will like Casino, Donnie Brosco, The Godfather (old school), A Bronx Tale, The Irishman.
Ray Liotta passed just recently at 67... he will be sorely missed.
You guys should watch The Untouchables if you haven't seen it. Donnie Brasco is another good mafia movie.
Some of Howard Stern's best interviews was when Henry Hill would call into the show or when Henry was in the studio.
Watching you all react to this brought back all the feelings I felt when I first saw it. Damn, Scorsese is such a genius. Scarface is candy ass in comparison. The film makes us care about these terrible people--against our will!
Yes with the iconic mob movies! Love love love! Now pls review “ Casino” , and “ A Bronx Tale” ……. Soooo good!
Yeah Casino gotta see it : « a love story » where everything that can go wrong and even worse !!!
@@APC3370 casino may be the top mob movie for me lol Sharon Stone acted her ass off in that movie…
@@amgirl4286 couldn’t agree more !
One of the best scenes is definitely the restaurant scene "Funny? Funny how?..." ...finally, you Gotta watch "A Bronx Tale" soon!!
Other great mobster movies, besides the Godfather, are Casino, Donnie Brasco, The Departed, A Bronx Tale, American Gangster.
1:16 "Just as long as it don't get crazy."
You might want to install a seatbelt on that couch. Cause they are opening with the car trunk scene and that's just the start. 😆
