    • @stegwise
      @stegwise Рік тому +19

the same thing happened in At Close Range between Sean Penn and Christopher Walken. they weren't getting the scene right so Sean went to the prop table and got the REAL gun and put it in Chris's face. now these days we've had too many accidents so that kind of thing could never happen, even back then it wasn't supposed to happen. but when you watch Walken's reaction in that scene it's real fear and the way it plays on screen is phenomenal. i think At Close Range is a fantastic movie, it's probably not something for reaction channels because of the slower pace and lack of action. but if you are into films, acting, etc it's one to watch.

I was a young boy when this movie came out, and I wanted to see it so bad because Batman was my favorite comic book character. But everybody was saying that it isn't a movie for kids, it's too dark, so my mom wouldn't let me see it. Well my dad came to my room one night and said we had a trash bag of clothes to take to Goodwill. It was late, maybe 9 pm. He told my mom he wanted me to come so he would have some company. Well on the way to Goodwill, we stopped at the movie theater, he had gotten us two tickets to The Dark Knight for a 10 pm showing. I have probably watched this movie fifty times since then. One of the core memories of my childhood for sure.

Heath Ledger was absolutely amazing in this movie. I remember hearing about him locking himself up in a motel room for 30 days, keeping a diary to prepare himself for the role and was dumbfounded by his commitment to the craft. Christopher Nolan allowed Heath Ledger to film his own “Joker hostage video,” Nolan had enough trust in Ledger to produce something aligned with his vision of the Joker- chaotic, and wildly ruthless. Also, Ledger kept a diary of how he trained to get/stay in the Joker’s mindset- one of his things was a picture of a hyena, which was inspiration of the cackling laugh throughout the movie. Such a masterclass in acting, gone too soon 😢

Thank you for reacting to this! When I first heard Heath had been cast as the Joker I laughed out loud and said "welp, someone's gonna be fired over this"...I've never been more wrong in my life and have never been happier about it lol
To this day Heath's performance is my favorite interpretation and will not be replaced. I really liked Joaquin's interpretation and Hamill did great voice work, but Heaths covered all facets of the character for me and I'm forever in love lol 🥰😍
I honestly never paid any attention to HL before this movie but have learned to appreciate him over the years. Even my uncle, a comic book collector and one of the grumpiest, pickiest men on earth is a fan of Heath's interpretation and says it is the best. That's not an easy achievement lol.
Also, for your boat theory, he would have had snipers waiting for people to jump off. Escape would not be an option. And as you can see he was going to blow up one, or probably both, of the boats either way. So even though they chose not to blow one another up, he was going to blow one or both of them up and say they did it to each other, hence the "gotta do everything yourself" line. He was gonna do it himself just to make everyone think the people chose to do it to further destroy everyones morale. Either way the Joker wasn't going to let people live and just walk away. Not his style lol.
Also, dont let conspiracy theorists/poor researchers tell you that playing the role of the Joker killed him. IT DID NOT!!! Heath passed away while filming the movie after TDK and it was due to complications from pneumonia. There is a documentary on it and there are interviews with both Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent) and Michael Jai White (Gambol, mob member) about how Heath behaved during filming. He was the Joker while cameras were rolling and Heath when they were off. It's that simple. He enjoyed playing the role. He had fun with it.
Yes he locked himself away for a month in a hotel room to develop the character and get into a mindset for him, but he came out just fine and didn't stay in character outside of filming, etc. He was a perfectly normal dude playing a character. That's it.
On his next film he developed pneumonia which weakened his respiratory system, he was a heavy smoker which also weakened his respiratory system, he took some medication for his pneumonia which supressed his respiratory system to help reduce coughing, and then took some pain meds on top of the pneumonia meds which further supressed his respiratory system and he stopped breathing in his sleep. It's nothing more than that. That's how a lot of ODs from pain meds happen unfortunately, the supression of the respiratory system and then breathing stops completely. His masseuse found him when she arrived for their appt. At first she thought he was sleeping but then realized he wasn't breathing. Unfortunately if was already too late. It was a horrible mistake and it really is that simple, so please stay away from the drama queens, etc who say otherwise because it's just not true. He left behind a daughter, Matilda, with actress Michelle Williams. She's possibly named after the national anthem of Australia, his home country, Waltzing Matilda, but I'm not positive.
Regardless, he was an amazing actor and he made a stupid mistake mixing his medications and it cost him his life. There's no conspiracy involved. Thank you for the reaction and for listening 🥲

One of the best parts of the movie is the explosion at the hospital, because some of it was improvised perfectly. When the explosion paused and the Joker started banging the remote and looking confused, that was all improvised by Heath Ledger. The truth is the explosion wasn't supposed to pause, but they had some temporary technical difficulties and Heath stayed in character. Turned out great and created a funny moment. Plus they were lucky, because they only had one shot at blowing up that hospital and thankfully the shot wasn't ruined.

This is simply not true. Both Christopher Nolan and the special effects supervisor Chris Corbould have debunked it many many times. They needed to have 2 rounds of explosions to ensure Ledger had enough time to make it a safe distance away from the building. Ledger messing with the detonator was the signal that he reached the safe zone and the crew could start the second round of explosives. Everything in that scene went exactly according to plan.

A blend of sorrow because of imminent death, relief at having not been the cause of hundreds of others' deaths, and shame that of all of them, only the criminal had the courage to do the moral thing. Fantastic scene.

One of the big theories on who the Joker is is that he's a Veteran who came home after being psychologically damaged by what he saw in the middle east, then broke completely when some people who saw him as a symbol of that unjust war, or just used that as an excuse to hurt someone, gave him a glasgow smile. It would explain how he blended in with trained officers, his war story, his use of improvised explosives which would have come from having to disarm or spot IEDs, and his ability to easily get weapons like that RPG.

Yes, Maggie Gyllenhall was cast as Rachel for this as Katie Holmes had a packed shooting schedule, and actually declined to return despite Nolan wanting her back.
The thing about the Joker's little origin stories he tells is that he makes it up every time, tailoring it to his audience at the time, just to see what kind of reaction they have to it because he gets off on that. He's always said that if he DID have an origin story, he'd prefer it to be multiple choice.
The old man at the fundraiser who tells Joker that they're not intimidated by thugs is none other than Senior Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, who is a HUGE Batman fan. During the Joker's little storytime with Rachel, Maggie had NO idea what Heath was going to do as he kind of ad-libbed that scene with her so when he put his hands on her with the knife she was genuinely frightened.
Heath Ledger also developed the 'licking' tic of Joker's to explain why he was doing it; it was really because the scar prosthetics he was wearing would come loose if they got too dry so he'd be licking them to keep them in place.

And of course this movie……we were shown how to set it up be never were allowed to „Take the ride“…I‘ve done some pretty out there stuff but getting yanked off the ground by a plane doing probably 200-300mph would not have been my idea of a fun ride! as harvey dent himself said, "you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain". and he lived way longer than he thought he would.

Everything in this movie is top tier, 10/10 level shit. I still quote multiple parts of this movie with my buddies to this day.
