@@beansoup23 You can indeed have arthritis young. Many different types of arthritis. I had juvenile rheumatoid arthritis when I was a child now I just have rheumatoid arthritis (obviously) and I'm in my 20s. Hope that helps you. :)
I struggle with weakness due to severe fibromyalgia but I use my husband as my opener for cans / bottles etc. He never fails and I never hurt myself trying to get into things
I've got the first gadget and you place it on top and hold the button until it grips and then let go and it'll cut the lid off and stop once all the way round. It works really well.
Standard day in the Barry Household: Mr Barry drunk on Prosecco at breakfast, leaves the house on a cabbage acquisition mission, arrives home to find Liz has finished the prosecco & is passed out on kitchen floor. A while later Mrs Barry arrives home to find Mr Barry passed out next to Liz, covered in icecream and cookie crumbs, the dogs are on the phone to the rspca claiming someone has been throwing bananas at them & there is rice & peas everywhere! Just your typical day in a British household. Btw my husband is a Brummie and he says "Toof" rather than tooth... weirdo ;) 😜
Hi Barry! Dolma is a traditional Turkish food. The word "dolma" means filled in Turkish (or "yaprak sarması" - leaf wrapping, wrapped leaf) Dolmer, the stuffer is a bit popular between the beginner chefs in my country, Turkey. And most of them are using that for making dolmas. The experienced ones are using their hands to wrap them. We are making dolmas in a few different ways. In the west of Turkey usually use grape tree's boiled leaves (not big leaves as yours) and north of the Turkey is usually use black cabbage to wrap the rice in the best way. And preparing rice is the most important thing in the recipe. For the Aegean Region's recipe, basically, boil the leaves and put them in strainer. Then roast the onion with sunflower oil until it is caramelized. Add rice, roast them well together and add 3 tablespoons of tomate paste and 3 tomatoes (planed). Add a cup of water. After the water disappears in the mixture add minced parsley, dill, fresh mint and a few pinches of salt, black pepper, chilly, cumin and for the last red pepper. Put a table spoon of mixture in the middle of the leaf. Close the wings of the leaf, and start rolling to the front. Repeat it untill your leaves finish. Arrange the sticks of dolmas in order in a broad saucepan horizontally. Sprinkle olive oil top of it. Add hot water till water slightly covers it. When the water completely sucked you can turn off the gas. Done. Beautiful. :) After it cooks you can sprinkle lemon juice or a few tablespoons of yogurt. It is definitely not easy to make dolmas but it tastes absolutely amazing! I would love to see that you're making dolmas in a video of yours. Have a good day, Barry. Lots of love from Turkey :)
Hello. Just wanted to add....they aren't just Turkish. They're a Middle Eastern dish too, so....incarnations exist that have nothing to do with Turkish cuisine. :)
Yea true they're common here in the Middle East as well! Ive been to turkey before and they do serve them! As a lebanese, it's definitely one of our traditional dishes! And btw your recipe does sound yummy and good ! Im pretty sure its so close to our recipe! Hope he tries to do it! Id live to watch him cook it!
After the Ottomans took Constantinople from the Byzantine Empire in 1453, a new chapter began in the Turkish cookbook. The multinational and multilingual empire spread from the Black Sea to North Africa and from Arabia to the Balkans, with Istanbul as the truly cosmopolitan capital. This tri-continental span became the source of Persian, Arab, Balkan, North African, Slavic, and Central Asian influences, which remain on Turkish tables today.
Jasmine rice is not sticky rice. Use short grain rice. If you're going to shape rice, better to use short grain. Also, its better to use the "absorption method" for it. Use a 1:1 ratio for rice and water. Wash rice until the water comes clear. Drain it and put equal amount of water. Cover and let boil. Better to use a glass lid if you're someone like me who don't have an internal temperature probe to see if the rice is ready or not. Once all the water is gone, remove from heat and let stand for 10mins.
Doug Kincaide I'm pretty sure they just wanted rice that's sticker and holds its shape better than, say, wild rice or balsamic rice, but still tastes like regular rice. Not actual sticky rice, which I doubt most non-east Asian's have even seen.
Just going by the sound of the can opener and the instructions you said it seems like it works like this Place it on top.... press button .... it then tightens up and then begins to cut Once its done a full rotation press the button again and it will stop after its loosened up. Thats why it kept making noise after you pressed the button
My family loves the automatic can opener. the correct way to use it is to place it on the can, making sure that the lid of can is between the blade and the runner. Then press the button and let it work it's magic. You should not touch it at all while it is working it's way around the can. When the can lid is completely off, press the button again and wait a second for it to stop on its own. I'd love to see you retest this one! I love these videos!
You shoulve cut the root of the cabbage , the part in the front where u were putting in the whole, cut that off and try to put less rice and a smaller piece of cabbage without the root! Im arab actually and we have loads of foods with this concept! Grape leaf with rice and minced meat inside! Retry the cabbage with rice try seasonings for better taste 😂 obviously we cook it after we roll it but it takes time so im guessing you wont go with the process! Love this series btw I've spent all my sunday watching this playlist!
Barry, I love your gadget videos. Here is a tip for the first and last gadgets. For the can opener, press the button once to start and again to stop. It takes a second to stop because the blades are backing up to release the lid. I made the same mistake when I first started to use mine. It's handy to use if you are multitasking because the sound of the motor changes slightly (gets faster/louder) when it is finished so you can listen for it when you are doing something else. Also, with the icecream sandwich maker, try twisting it while it is against the counter to compress the icecream between the cookies then pop it out of the maker. Keep up the videos!
I think you ran into trouble with the cabbage roll because you started at the thick stem end, maybe if you laid the thin end toward the pusher or laid the leaf crosswise instead of lengthwise it would have had a smoother roll? you could also cut the thicker parts of the leaf out, and see... i've seen it done with the grape leaves, which are a bit smaller too
Hello I'm from New Jersey USA and i really have to say that i always look forward to your gadget testing videos! they are my absolute favorite. Firstly because you are so honest about the way you review them, and also because even if it doesnt work perfectly, you still see how it could have potential. I enjoy your positivity immensely. Thank you so much for this playlist!
from what i see you press the button to cut the tin then when it gets rite around u press the button again and it goes in reverse for about 2 seconds to make sure the end is cut properlly
I am so happy. Was having a really bad night at work, but getting home and seeing this turned my morning around. Absolutely love the my kitchen gadget videos you make. Thank you for turning my day around!!! 😁
Hi Barry, great video had us chuckling once again. Do you think you could drink a glass of prosecco before every kitchen hack video, it really adds to the entertainment value ;)
where is the rice cube video if I may ask? tried searching for it but nothing seems to come up in results besides this video and a few rice krispie ones.
My favorite was the rice cube..you could add so many different things to the rice..so many variations..would make interesting appetizers..maybe even dessert...sweet rice cubes? As far as the cabbage rolls..so easy to do by hand..😎
I love how Barry just completely forgets about the tube and does not even bother to open it. It’s part of the gadget and you you it after you mess up wow. But that’s what makes it fun and entertaining when you mess up in the nicest possible way.
My mom used to make fun of that auto can opener. Then she fell & broke her wrist & now she's grateful for it. She also doesn't have nearly the difficulty that Barry did :)
Aliyah Thornton Oh, that makes sense. It does say "shake me to wake me" on the packaging. But... Does that mean you put the bubbles in the bottle before pouring or do you need to cover up the glass to shake it?
When I was watching him down that glass, I was like...maybe he needs to do something like stir it or pop them like the lid said, "Pop a Ball" ? I figured they would've dissolved since they're made of seaweed. Nice try Barry. :)
Pronouncing a "th" as "F" is known as "Th-Fronting" and is a dialect of English. Cockney, Estuary English, some West Country and Yorkshire dialects, Newfoundland English, African American Vernacular English, and Liberian English
As someone with an asian mom, I've never cooked rice on the stove. I've always had a rice cooker; even though I live in a tiny apartment, it is a kitchen necessity to me.
I think youre supposed to pop the cherry balls when they go in the drink, it said on the package it'll make the drink "shimmery" I assumed that meant whatever was in the ball
My dad is paralyzed from the waist down and can't use his fingers. When he got this can opener for Christmas the other year it was the best thing ever for him. He still gets excited about opening cans lol. When you press the button the second time it reverses to release the lid, and then it turns off on it's own.
We have the one touch can opener. It's noisy as hell but really good on all tins. As a person whose fingers tend to dislocate using a normal opener it has been a wonderful change.
Recently, my stepson has been coming over from his mother's house with fruit cups that have those bubble things mixed in them. They are pretty good. My youngest doesn't want anything to do with them tho lol
Once you start the can opener, just let it go. We have two of these, one for the house and one for the camper. My wife has some artthritis in her hands and these things really work! There are about 3 different brands on the market
was anyone else shouting at the screen during the can opener bit lol? obviously you press the button once and let it do its thing, no need to hold it or anything. every time you press the button it resets the timer which would be needed for cans with a larger circumference come on barry... were you drunk when you filmed this? haha
Please. For the love of sanity Barry, could you at least please read the instructions for the products your testing. I do find it often embarrassing watching these videos and you aren't the most competent in using them. No offence, but for example, the can opener didn't need to be held to work, just clip it on, touch to start and touch to stop. Also Coeliacs is pronouced See-liacs.
Justin Lakey, Barry not reading instructions is on purpose. the videos on sundays are meant to be funny. and so what that he mispronounced a word does that mean the end of the world? I think not.
Well no, they are supposed to be informative. Yes, there may be a comedy atmosphere, but surely if he states to be sensitive towards people with disabilities who may need to use these products, then there is a seriousness to them.
Justin Lakey he *did* look at the instructions, dude. Didn't you see him reading the packaging for the can opener? And sometimes instructions just aren't THAT clear. Yea maybe you think it's obvious you need to let go of the can opener but maybe it's not in the instructions and not everyone thinks the same way as you do. He also said the can opener didn't seem to latch into the can so maybe he was holding it as a precaution for the most part.
Shaun Kelly he was looking at the instructions. You shouldn't need to google how to use a certain product, it should come with it. He was clearly reading the packaging and looking at instructions.
I have a similar tin opener, put it on the tin, press the button und let it go. no need to hold it or turn the tin around. when it got a full circle press the button again, it will then go a bit backwards to release the lid and then stops.
the can openerthingy at the start closes and opens which takes a cuppa seconds, so pressing the button over and over again is not gonna work, have one of those myself and they are really handy.

yeah my nan has it! It's fab

your meant to shake the presseco with the balls with it
Aliyah Thornton Oh, that makes sense. It does say "shake me to wake me" on the packaging.
But... Does that mean you put the bubbles in the bottle before pouring or do you need to cover up the glass to shake it?
Agent Nein you need to just swish it around gently and stur it round with a fork and it should work
Aliyah Thornton Aah, that makes sense. Sorry, I'm being a bit daft today. x)
Agent Nein it's fine
When I was watching him down that glass, I was like...maybe he needs to do something like stir it or pop them like the lid said, "Pop a Ball" ? I figured they would've dissolved since they're made of seaweed. Nice try Barry. :)

For the rice cube you could do like a rice teriyaki with thin sliced beef with tiny bits of peas and carrots
Almost like stir fry in a cube

He also said the can opener didn't seem to latch into the can so maybe he was holding it as a precaution for the most part.
Has anyone seen the quote in the back! 😂 "My cooking is fabulous, even the smoke alarm cheers me on!
What in the world is a kelliac? You mean celiac?
Alexandra yeah I think...
Alexandra for some reason it's spelled coeliac in the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand
Maya It's still pronounced "see-lee-ak" though.
Maya it's spelled with a "c" everywhere
ArsonistInUrFirewall I looked up pronunciation of "coeliac" and it was most definitely not with a hard "k" sound lol
Here I was, thinking this was a nice family show, when Barry goes and uses the phrase "big ass banana". :D
Dude has a cookbook... doesn't know how to cook rice

TRY READING THE INSTRUCTIONS AND DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH BEFORE YOU START!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Calm down, Caps Lock Warrior. The whole point of these videos is really just for fun.
Shaun Kelly he was looking at the instructions. You shouldn't need to google how to use a certain product, it should come with it. He was clearly reading the packaging and looking at instructions.
Shaun Kelly why do you have to be an ass about it. if it bothers you, the way he does his videos theres a thing you can do....leave.
Shaun Kelly why ? It spoils all the fun

Do they not have decent automatic can openers in the UK? I've got a Hamilton Beach 76380Z and while it's not portable it does the job quite nicely.
with the rice cube u should make a recipe for rice pudding and put it in there
I used to have that can opener. Worked great! Also love these videos!
I have a similar tin opener, put it on the tin, press the button und let it go. no need to hold it or turn the tin around. when it got a full circle press the button again, it will then go a bit backwards to release the lid and then stops.
Berry is living the life. Getting Drunk at 9am and throwing a banana down the stairs twords his pugs XD
the can openerthingy at the start closes and opens which takes a cuppa seconds, so pressing the button over and over again is not gonna work, have one of those myself and they are really handy.
