    Hello Barry,
    One trick when cooking a cracked egg shell (especially when the egg is too cold and the water is too hot). Just add a tbsp or two of vinegar to the water, and the egg white won't be spreading like crazy when getting cooked ;)

    I do think the throw egg actually has a really good concept, I don’t like the yellow part of hard boil eggs because of the powdery texture so I don’t get the proteins from it but having the two mixed together would get rid of the powdery texture

    Hey Barry! You should really know that there is a difference in cooking something for X amount of minutes in the microwave compared to doing it in 1 minute parts. I've seen you do this multiple times before. Cooking something for 4 minutes in one go will cook it a LOT better than just doing it one 1 minute at a time 4 times over. It's pretty basic microwave knowledge.

    Hey Barry! Love your videos! You add salt to add flavour/seasoning to the water, not to lower the boiling point - in fact, it actually raises the boiling point. You can see this when your boiling water for pasta, and as you put the salt in before the pasta, you will notice it will bubble less, or even stop boiling :) Love your videos!

    Barry, when you boil eggs, add a splash of plain vinegar to the water when it's cold. If your egg has a crack, the acidulated water will made anything that tries to escape the shell to harden instantly. When the egg is cooked, just pick off the tiny bit that is stuck to the shell. All of your eggs will turn out well, and the vinegary smell dissipates quickly. Love your videos. Cheers!

  • @goldfishwishes
    @goldfishwishes 8 років тому +35

    Salt doesn't help the water boiling point but it does help get the shell off by slightly breaking down the layers between the egg and the shell :) same way with bi-carb soda

    • @Magmafrost13
      @Magmafrost13 8 років тому +19

      It actually increases the boiling point, although not by very much. However its also worth noting that salt has a much lower specific heat capacity than water, meaning the same volume of salt water will heat quicker than pure water (a pinch of salt is by a long way not enough to make a noticeable difference though). However you could achieve the same effect by just using less water.

    • @RhodianColossus
      @RhodianColossus 8 років тому +2

      you could completely saturate the water with salt and it wouldn't raise the boiling point by a degree

    • @LColUK
      @LColUK 8 років тому +7

      Yes it does, it can raise it by approximately 2 degrees. www.reference.com/science/salt-make-water-boil-faster-abec508cff423e26

    • @LColUK
      @LColUK 8 років тому +1

      Cameron said it wouldn't raise the boiling temp. I said it would. The faster energy consumption didn't come into it.

    adding salt makes the water impure and raises the boiling point, therefore your food cooks quicker as the water is able to get hotter :)

    • @yootubah887
      @yootubah887 7 років тому +2

      While that is true, you'd have to add a very large amount of salt to make it even somewhat noticeably faster, so unless you're willing to waste your money on loads of salt in exchange for a slightly faster cooking time, there's really no point

    The bacon you used is probably wet cured (saline solution is injected into the meat) rather than dry cured (meat is scored and salt is rubbed into it,it's then left for the salt to draw moisture out) maybe dry cured would work better.

    G'day from Australia Barry! Love these videos mate, top trick for grilled cheese is to chuck it in the microwave for 45 seconds before putting in the pan. It seals it and makes it extra melted so it's easy to flip and there's no raw/unmelted cheese inside

    To get *Golden* eggs instead of _green_ eggs:
    Place eggs in *unsalted* _cold_ water. Bring to rolling boil. Remove from heat, cover and let sit for 13 minutes. Rinse in cold water. Perfect *Golden* eggs without a hint of green.

    Salt in the water doesn't make it boil faster, but it does make pasta tastier. Also, another tip: Crack the egg just before dropping it into the ice water. It causes the egg to draw water in under the shell as it contracts and makes peeling easier.

    Can we make Barry's expression at 15:30 a meme and call it "Bad Idea Barry?" He has such a "this was a bad idea, it knew it was before I did, so why did I do it." face there.

    I love that the gloves only take off the dirt of the vegetables and not so much of the flesh like a pealer or knife

    Put a little vinegar in the water when boiling eggs. It makes any white that leaks out set more quickly and cause less foam.
