    Jimmy, liked the video. Glad you included the torque settings. I would suggest a bead around the bolt area and not directly through it. Also, I'd use a plastic scrapper in order to ensure that you down scratch the smooth seal area.

    Good video. However, I just use a suction gun and draw the old fluid out of the fill hole, instead of unbolting/removing the cover and messing with scraping off the old gasket material. Might not get every drop of the old fluid this way, but it is a heck-of-a-lot quicker & cleaner.

    Ive done this job several times on a few different trucks and always just used paper towels and brake cleaner. I never thought to use a scrub sponge like that. It seemed to work pretty well at getting the old rtv off. I will have to try it next time. Thanks!

    Dodge's always feel a little more rough around the edges. Like something your old technical Sergeant would build. Old school, yes you could just drain and fill, but that's not the SOP. Take inspection plate off. Check gears for wear etc etc.

    Nice video, now I can get started on my 05 hemi, but dodge did have a recall on some 05 models, I took it in and they didn't have the part, and I haven't heard from them since after they promised to call me, it's seems now I'm going to have to surprise them since the service is free, but I will double check to make sure my 92 is still there lol

    I have 2002 Ram 4.7 1500 shortbed two wheel. Great truck, but rear is making a weird feeling on the right side when mostly turning right I was told to change fluid first cause it could be old and low causing the fiction plates heat up? Any advice is appreciated thanks.

    My 2006 Ram has a 3.55 rear axle, but also comes with the Trailer Tow Group as well as an additional option of an Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle which in 2006 was worth $ 405. At least that's what it says on the original window sticker for the truck.

    I have a 2004 - 2500 w/Hemi and did mine the first time in about 4 hours. It was a tough job but saved big $$$. Now you know for about $500 they'll do it, but if you consider parts cost and 4+ hours labor is about what they are charging you but I'd bet a certified mechanic can do it in less then 2 hours. What a rip-off! Do it yourself if you have the tools, time, patience and are able! I was recommended NGK plugs and they're running great by the way.

    so my 2007 dodge ram 1500 seems to be a little wet I don't think it's leaking a whole lot but this process that you just went through do you think I need to do it . and also when I drive the truck kinda makes like a deep gargle noise I wonder if that's the differential and it's not as fast to pick up speed in which it should because it's a 5.7 hemi so I'm just looking for a possible solution

    • @Glock274Jimmy
      @Glock274Jimmy  8 років тому

      I think you should get that noise checked out. If it was me, I'd take the cover off and inspect to see if there are any metal shavings/pieces and change the fluid.

    So does the fluid only fill up to the bottom of the plug hole? I always thought the whole thing was filled..

    • @devonasher7857
      @devonasher7857 8 років тому

      It's not necessary you just want the gears to be lubed. If you over fill I'm not sure what would happen but I assume it would build up pressure and blow out the filler cap and your have to rebuild or get a new rear axel. It's like your engine you can over fill that too

    • @brettdn13
      @brettdn13 7 років тому

      Cole Tribble over filling will create air bubbles in your fluid and those air bubbles will create pressure in the case and if your breather is plugged it'll cause gaskets to blow out or seals. Rear diffs are splash lubrication so only fill to the bottom of the plug unless noted to do something else

    • @Glock274Jimmy
      @Glock274Jimmy  9 років тому

      Thx. Initially, I wasn't able to find a gasket for it (I can't recall which parts store I checked), but since then, I learned that they do make aftermarket gaskets for these. Stock OE, from what I understand is the RTV... (my '05 had the RTV stock)... I see Oriley has an aftermarket gasket I may use next time

I've been searching for a 3.9 for Hella long thought I found one went to pick it up and it was a 3.5 every single shop I called lied and said they had a 3.92 because they know a 3.5 will still work but it's a piece of garbage 3.5 open diff, cmon I'm tryna tow shit.

      look at your diff cover for a 3.5 stamp or the Tage tears the rotor and brakes on the axle should say 3.55 or 3.92. also check your glove box to see if your gear ratio matches your diff. if your truck says 3.92 and your diff say 3.55 you've been swindled and your truck has been downgraded

    • @Glock274Jimmy

      From what I understand, the darker it is, the older it is... and also, when it starts to get old, it starts to smell like rotten eggs. If it has been awhile, better to just change it... a lot cheaper to buy some fluid than to risk wearing out expensive rear ends! :o)

      I used Krylon Rust Tough Enamel RTA 9202. And I wish I would have recorded it - but I also picked up some Permatex Rust Dissolver Gel with the spray pump (Item Number 82138) and sprayed that all over the axle area where some surface rust was hanging out... it cleaned it up real good and then the whole axle looked like it was painted. It worked real well and still looks good today... no rusty surface junk anymore...
