Actually, Cutter is also the only starter with weapon racks. And these restore the weapons on insurance claim and on repair. You can even store tractor beam and railgun in the racks. This is a huge advantage.
Agree! Features like this are part of being gold standard. Even the Gladius has weapon rack (outside the cockpit), and the Cutter also has a shared inventory. I should have been more descriptive on this part. Thanks for the comment 😊👍
Great video again. I actually really like the cutter (and the Drake aesthetic overall), but I also completely agree with your points about the interior. In fact I too thought the exact same thing about the side door, it also would make it feel even more like a small transport van you can live in, which is exactly why I love that ship so much.
The stateroom is enormous compared to the size of the ship: they definitely could have made the cargo area larger and berthing more claustrophobic - and it if was just slightly wider it would be able to QT with a ROC, making it much more useful.
Another criteria for starter ships, is claim time. In that regards, the Nomad is the biggest starter ship yet. It can be claimed in 28 seconds. If you are trying new gameplay options, make a mistake and explode, it's no big deal. On the other hand, the Cutlass Black claiming time is seven minutes. And those values are a lot shorter than the planed final ones. You have to know what you're doing when flying those ships or it may cost you.
While being the owner of a fleet of ships I had to pick up a Cutter starter pack back when they came out on sale for a future prize. Now that the Cutter Scout has come out I picked up one of those for myself. That being said, the biggest issue with the Cutter is that it doesn't fit in most ship hangers so it doesn't work as a snub to larger ships like the Pisces and even Aurora does. However, I have a MISC Endeavor with a hanger module so it can fit in it along with my ambulance Pisces.
Thanks for the comment, you're right, hangar size is an important consideration when analyzing small ships, I'll include that in every future analysis! 🙂👍
Honestly if I had to pick one thing to change about the cutter: Slightly longer cargo bay for 6scu of storage, and easier stowing of hoverbikes. The cutter is a great shuttle/transport for fps gameplay, but i do wish i had an easier time bringing my hoverbikes around to make that ride out of safe parking a little shorter. If i could really start to change the ship's shape I would argue for a cargo bay big enough to pack a ROC in there, but at that point its just easier to argue for a different ship entirely
Great video! I love my Cutter, but I think it has way more potential than what CIG gave it. The tiny 4 SCU in such a large cargo hold is frustrating, especially when my 135c, a much smaller ship, has 50% more cargo space??
STV fits pretty well, but you have to reverse in which takes a little practice. Find the sweet spot and you can walk along the cargo hold on the side with the door controls, gain access to the STV's two box slots in the boot and carry boxes to the bed without anything other than normal walking. The gub capacitor is large and make the Cutter very suitable for taking on execution missions and clear site missions at wrecks, cone the guns at 100m to make ground attack runs easier. You can take down the reinfocement Cutlass Black with a little caution and, a canny trick, hover around 100m from the AI at a wreck, facing away and stand in the cargo fold with a sniper rifle. You can tractor in a fair few bodies afterwards for cheap and effectove armour and weapon supplies at minimal cost. That VTOL together with the small footprint means you can land more or less where you like and, when on the ground, on a moon keep the speed dial up high and when you need to leave fast use boost and VTOL and that's "scat" to 5000m and free to QT fast enough that your escape is a safe bet. Not really a combat ship, but that should be obvious from the specs. It will fly well enough with an engine shot off, well enough to get out of there or at least have a chnance once you work out the physics of the engines and thrusters. I think that fuel range is intentionally part of its USP but the Pyro loop that makes good use of it isn't here yet, but it can VK00 from ArcCorp to microTech and back, which isn't something any other can do. That's surely going to matter eventually but for now it simply means no range anxiety like you have in the MR or Mustnag. There's a weapon rack, which is a bonus now we have weapon insurance and you can fit pistols and even multitools in it so never lose your trusty WowBlast pistol again and if you haven't pulled one of those by mistake to slot an entrenched bounty you are playing the game all wrong🙂
I have 30 ships and it's always nice to retain two or three really small cheap inconspicuously sized ships. I have a pair of Auroras and the Cutter as my emergency replacement ships to get me somewhere while my bigger ships are on insurance cool down. Never a dull moment when you got a bunch of cheap taxi ships to get you back into the action or roundesviousing with other players on their crewed ships. Also I never feel bad about abandoning a perfectly good cheap ship to board another players ship.
The cutter is the only small starter ship with verhicle flexibility. If your desperate and not entering QT AT ALL you can sort of fit a ROC in it. You can't close the door, but if all you do is ferry it collecting then back to a mining station well you can manage. A stv instead of a ptv is a big upgrade x country too.
I really like the cutter I just wish it had better weapon options. The other starters have at minimum 4 size 1 hard points. The 2 size twos just aren't as good since gimbaling them reduces the size to 1
@@gioru5 Oh ok, thanks. I was just wondering if there’s something I was missing. Like…I dunno, your food stat won’t go up, cuz your full and you gotta poop…or something. 😅
Hi, thank you for your comment. Gonna review the Reliant family and I have so much to say. Today the Kore is no longer sold with a game package; so it's no longer officially a starter, but I agree it would make a great starter.
@Gruntguy55 Yeah, they took it off because it has some issues. In fact, all Reliant owners are temporarily given a Nomad as a loaner, as compensation for that.
The lack of decent armaments and the fact that it’s just barely too small for a Roc seems totally unrealistic for a brand like Drake. There should also be fold-down seats for any ship with an interior.
How about making a video about freelancer and it's types?..... And also thanks for the video.. Tho right now I just watch for fun... But this helps me in deciding which ship to choose and give it a try when I try the game.
Thank you very much 😊 Yes II'll review the Freelancer and all his variants 👍I decided to cover all the starters ASAP. In fact I'm currently filming the review of the Nomad, which is a very interesting ship.
CIG does not know how to create good ships or any kind of vehicles, you see something cool but you spend 5 minutes thinking about it and everyone can point out all the flaws that they must have known about and have no reason to exist. a second door, whatever, don't care, but the placement of the bathroom? the artificial downsizing of the cargo? the planned narrowing down just to make certain ground vehicles not fit by an inch? it's just so stupid and obviously forced. its like building a forklift with an exit only to the frontside where the cargo is being held. nobody with a brain that has enough oxygen supply would come up with that, in CIG you get paid for that idea.
Liked it for a while, actually bought it with real life cash. But give it up and CCU it to something else instead. because the handling feels off, for its size, its handling is just awful, I can live with that handling if it has a 8 slot cargo, but not 4, 4 is just way too small, smaller than 135c and C8X, remember both of them are 'snob size' can be called out at car pad. If cutter has 8 cargo space, I will never let it go.
Agreed, and I was undecided about my final score until the very end. The ship is so slow that filming this episode became a pain in the 💛. The only reason my score was a bit higher is the gold standard and the ability to carry an STV for the price... I'm still not sure if that was a good idea.

The Nomad has two weapon racks, but not one for heavy weapons
Since the recent patch - does it still insure the hand weapons etc?
@@Matrixomega From what I experienced, and based on the patch notes, not anymore.
@drksideofthewal You're right, I didn't know that until I started filming the next review, which is about the Nomad
Great video again.

WHALE!!!! I am jelly :P
Amazing review of the cutter.
And the lack of a 2nd door is a hazard and regrettable
Indeed! Especially if you have to exit through the cargo bay. Also the Nomad has only one exit, but through the living area

I understand the necessity of a bed for logging off/on, but are there any advantages to having a toilet? lol
Gameplay wise no. It's for immersion. If you care about that of course

Can you do Nomad next?! :D
Thank you so much! Yes, the Nomad is next 😊👍
i like it for a starter ship, it worked for me.
STV works great **IF YOU BACK IN**. That's essential
The cutter looks like a terran failed version of the puddle jumper from stargate atlantis
I wish they made a militia version of the Cutter
That would actually be really cool
Great stuff! O7
Hey, thanks!
back the STV in, keeping it close to the port-side wall, No walking issues.
Wow, great hint!! ♥️
The lack of decent armaments and the fact that it’s just barely too small for a Roc seems totally unrealistic for a brand like Drake. There should also be fold-down seats for any ship with an interior.
Good point 👍
you have to park the stv backwards and it's a clean entry and exit. That's where I must say you're wrong. I own both and they are a perfect duo for me

Screwed up not making it fit a ROC.
Even if it was capable of, not having a second exit would force you to take-out the ROC to get out of the ship...
favorite starter ship and puts many other ships to shame with it's Gold Standard
I would argue aegis avenger titan would be a starter before cutlass black.
DRAKE is the best manufactuer. also the packs that come in Concierge arent starter packs at all u cant see them tillu spend 1000
You are right. I should have used as an example the carrack, instead of the 890j... or even better, the arrow
