Good enough song to be number 1 twice..Frankie and his crew in '76, then again as a hip-hop version in '98. And so remarkable that even the face of disco, metal, art rock and funk, They could still hold thier own.
Just so you know, only the chorus was sung by Franki Valli. They pulled him in to sing the chorus. He got his fame thru Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Early boy band.
One of Frankie Valli's GREATEST songs (besides the one you just listened to) is My Eye's Adored You. The inspection for him writing that song is a HEART BREAKER. It's a MUST listen to song.
This is a 70's song, it came out in 1975, the song title "December 1963, Oh What Night" tells a story about a boy losing his virginity, as he recalls..."Oh What a night, late December back in '63".
It's called December 1963. It doesn't mean it was recorded in 1963. This song came out in the mid 70s. But no matter what year it was made in, you're correct, it still sounds incredible. You must react to more Four Seasons. Just hit after hit after hit.
Fun fact: No artist had more singles chart on the Billboard Hot 100 in the 1960s than Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. More than the Beatles, more than the Rolling Stones, more than the Beach Boys, more than any artist to come out of Motown, more than Elvis. The '60s were a distant memory by the time this song was released, and it doesn't even feature Frankie Valli on lead vocals like most of their other hits. Speaking strictly as a longtime programmer of top 40 radio stations, I can say with some authority that this wasn't even one of their biggest hits. Still, it is a frequent spin on these reaction channels, so I'm guessing the same group of viewers who watch all these channels are requesting it. It did hit #1 in 1975, but they had many other songs for which they're better remembered, many of which reached #1 on the charts. This one doesn't sound like any of them. You really have to go back to their '60s material to hear the group at its peak. Starting with their earliest releases that climbed the charts. Songs like "Sherry" (1962), "Big Girls Don't Cry" (1962), "Walk Like A Man" (1963). All three of those were #1 hits. "Candy Girl" (1963), "Dawn (Go Away)" (1964), "Rag Doll" (1964), "Bye, Bye Baby (Baby Goodbye)" (1965), "Let's Hang On" (1965), "Working My Way Back to You" (1966), "Opus 17 (Don't You Worry 'Bout Me" (1966), "Tell it To the Rain" (1966), "C'Mon Marianne" (1967), and Frankie Valli's three giant solo hits "I've Got You Under My Skin" (1966), "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" (1967), and "My Eyes Adored You" (1975). No history of American popular music that covers the second half of the century would be complete without a chapter on Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. They were so big and so influential that there was even a movie made about them. You can rent it On Demand or through some streaming services. Check out the movie "Jersey Boys." It's not exactly a documentary, but it's based on the true story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Honestly, you really haven't gotten an accurate picture of the group if you haven't heard Frankie's amazing falsetto voice. He can hit notes that are wayyyyyyy up there. And incredibly, he's still performing today and can come pretty close to those notes even now at the age of 88. Yes, you read that right. 88. (He was born 5/3/1934.). Some of their earliest songs that really exploit his gift for the high notes are "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Candy Girl." Personally, my favorite by them was one of their lesser hits, "Tell It To the Rain."
Classic! You guys HAVE to watch "Jersey Boys". The story of Frankie Valli & Four Seasons! It's really good! BTW, it's not '63! He's reminiscing in the song. It came out later in his career in '75.

I’ve heard this song at pretty much every single wedding I’ve ever been to. Great song!!!
The two songs you have reacted to are kind of outliers of the 4 Seasons sound. Their first three songs all went to #1, Sherry, Walk Like a Man and Big Girls Don't Cry. Their harmonies are on full display in songs like Rag Doll, Dawn and Opus 17. In all they had 28ish top 20 hits so there are tons of songs to wade through.
There was a LOT of great music from the 50s and 60s. That was the beginning of REAL Rock 'n' Roll.
Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons…My very first concert and car date. Front Row Theater Cleveland, Ohio 1973, I just got my license. ❤️🔥
