Frankie was the original falsetto singer. They've been around a long time. Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry, Rag Doll, Who Loves You, Walk Like a Man, Working My Way back to You, and many, many more. Fantastic group.
All those early/mid 60s hits with the high voices, and Rag Doll is such a sad song it makes me slightly teary. Then their mid-70s comeback with songs like The Night (which I hope gets checked out as well),this one and Who Loves You (Pretty Baby)?
My uncle, Tommy Devito, was the original band member who put it all together. He passed this year to Covid at the age of 92. The guy was an absolute character!
The movie is based on the Broadway musical, “Jersey Boys “!!! Pop is a genre that is much older than this sound. Pop music is from the early 50’s. Popular songs that were hits and outside of blues, country, R&B, jazz and rock. I would argue that in fact each decade had its pop sounds by the crooners, chanteuses and the singers with the big bands and dance bands of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s.
@@foreveralone11w I agree. This is one of the groups that transcends what I normally listen to. I mean I usually listen to stuff like Zeppelin but this ....how can you not like the music? And the movie was really interesting. The part about his daughter....:(
2.45 is when Frankie starts to sing.. He's sitting on the bar stool.. Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons are BRILLIANT.. Have a look at 'Sherry', 'Big Girls don't Cry', 'Walk like a man', 'My Eyes Adored you' and there are so many more so many more fabulous songs to choose from.. Best wishes to you both, from Wales.
Frankie was dealing with hearing problems (that were eventually corrected) at the time they recorded this song, so he wasn't confident enough to sing lead on it. He has an amazing voice. Opus 17 (Don't You Worry 'bout Me) is one of my personal favorites of theirs.
THEE Frankie Valli is the one sitting on the stool. He was the 2nd one to sing. Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons are EPIC and have so many hits. You will enjoy every single one of them. They are LEGENDS and ICONS for sure...
The very first band I was introduced to as a child, and thankfully so! Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons will always be one of my favorite bands, and Frankie's voice will always be one of the Greatest!!!
Not only is he still alive but is planning on a fall tour. I saw him year before last and he still sings live during his shows(with the help of a backing track). Still sounds good at 87.
Saw him too with my mom. I think he was 83 at the time. Fantastic! Yes, he is a huge icon with an amazing and distinct sound! Of course love Grease (Jay and Amber, you were or have watched the movie Grease and recently reacted to your the One That I Want by Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta). My all time favorite though is Who loves You.
Fun Fact:. Even Frankie Valli's hits are still the 4 Seasons. That is how close they were as they allowed him to go "solo", especially considering Frankie Valli didn't write the songs.
Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi, Joe Long and later Gerry Polci (that voice!) and Don Ciccone, absolute music icons: The Four Seasons!

You forgot Ronnie, Working My Way Back To You, C’mon Marianne, Bye Bye Baby (Baby Goodbye), I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Opus 17 (Don’t You Worry ‘Bout Me).
I can tell you right now; Amber had heard Frankie Valley before. He sings the title track for the movie Grease, which she wants Rob to watch. Grease (Is The Word) was written for the movie; replacing the usual orchestra intros plays use.
This was clearly a seventies song, a great hit after many people had more or less forgotten them. Frankie Valli also later sang title song from Grease.

As for the Four Seasons, play their first big hit that took over the airwaves and could be heard from every transistor radio on the beach, “Sherry”!!! Great falsetto song😁😁😁
"Who Loves You" by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is in my humble opinion one of the greatest disco songs of all time. The arrangement is incredible and no one can help but dance to it. The first Beatle album ever released in the U.S. back in 1964 had Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons on one side of the album and the Beatles on the other. This was a few months before the Beatles even came to America. The Four Seasons had already had two or three bit hits at the time. Frankie Vallie continues to tour fifty seven years later at Casinos. And he can still hit the high notes!
Frankie is the guy with the dark hair doing vocals only at the front with the head phones on one ear... very unique voice. This song always gets the dance floor going at any retro disco! In fact I was at one a few weeks ago and it was played and I danced to it 😊
Gerry Polci is the drummer. Frankie is the one sitting on the stool. One of a kind voice. Very distinct. Listen to Who Loves You. You should check the DVD Jersey Boys. It's Vallis story of how he began & all he went through. Great movie tons of their songs! You'd absolutely love it.
Gerry Polci later became a music teacher, and you'll see several comments on Four Seasons videos from this era, probably including this one as well as the live Midnight Special version, saying, "Hey that's my old band teacher, Mr. Polci!"
Frankie Valli’s voice comes to the fore in their songs, ‘ Walk Like A Man’ and ‘ Sherry Baby’ ’ I’m sure you will love them. The bass singer Nick Massi was the songwriter for the group.
Agreed! Just mentioned this in the comments above as the one that should definitely react to. Who loves you is definitely #1 for me! They do have so many good ones though as you mentioned. Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You is a fantastic song. Of course this is exactly what they were saying and they were accurate without knowing how different Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons can sound
I never imagined in a million years someone would link Rush and Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons together. That is one of the reasons I love to watch reactions!!
This song came out in the 70's and was one of their last hits, but Frankie & the 4 Seasons had a long string of hits in the 60's. Frnkie is the guy who is sitting in the stool and singing the high parts, he is famous for his falsetto. Definitely go back to Sherry, Walk Like A Man, Rag Doll and so much more.
Frankie's falsetto was iconic. They were so big in the 60's. I can remember listening to them on the radio while waiting for the bus. Yes, I am that old.
My cousin, Pam, was 9 years older than me. I was six years old in her room. She played "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. This was the beginning of my love affair with music. Music and I are still in love.🎼🎵🎶
The verses were sung by the drummer Gerry Polci, the pre-chorus (starting "oh I, I got a funny feeling") is Frankie Valli, the usual lead singer, and the little bridge part (the "ball of thunder" part) by bassist Don Ciccone.
Their iconic songs were in the 60's, and this was a #1 hit from early 1976. They, like many others, were inspired by the style that was just beginning to blow up at the time - DISCO! Frankie Valli would later hit #1 with a solo hit, the title song to "Grease." :)
It's terrific. You need to listen to Rag Doll which I consider their masterpiece. Fun fact: Actor Joe Pesci grew up with these guys and actually introduced members of the band to Bob Gaudio who would be a singer/songwriter for them
@@corvus1374 Yeah, that was well done and funny. He was younger than all of them (I think) so they treated him like a schmo. They had no idea he would become JOE PESCI. :)
They were huge in the pre-Beatles era with a classic early-60’s Doo Wop sound combined offset by Frankie’s distinctive falsetto. They were one of the few bands of that were to remain relevant through and beyond the British Invasion. This pop song from 1975 incorporates substantial funk elements in a way that foreshadowed the incoming disco movement.
The song was released in 1975. The full title is "December 1963 (Oh, What a Night)". Such a great, great song. Thank you for reacting to it! You'll love this rabbit hole... Frankie's falsetto rivals Barry's.
They started out in the late 50's, early 60's as a doo wop band, with Frankie Valli singing in his falsetto voice, they are legends and created a unique style that I Love and still listen to today.
This song for me always goes hand in hand with "Brandy" by Looking Glass and "Lake Shore Drive" by Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah, they are my 3 favorite feelgood songs
I saw the Four Seasons way back in 1976....I had a huge crush on the drummer and just HAD to see them! The show was everything I hoped for...just great! D***, I'm old haha
When your music and life story is turned into a Broadway musical (and a movie based on that), you qualify as iconic! ETA: Billy Joel's Uptown Girl was a homage to the Four Seasons :)
Amber this song Came out in 1976 Your decade ,,, I was 15 when this came out, I was walking down a street in Kodiak Alaska and a car went by playing this on the radio i never for got it lol And Joy to the world by Three dog night came out in 1971 , You n Jay reacted to it ,, Also heard it the 1st time in Kodiak Alaska I was a very spoiled 70s brat lol
This song is nothing like the hits that made them the legends they are. It’s amazing that they three guys singing different parts so beautifully. This, also, besides Frankie Valli, is not the 4 seasons who made it big in the late 50’s.
Jessie. You are the 1st to point that out. This is not the original Four Seasons. Basically this is a cover band fronted by Frankie Valli. But of note the original group had separated and after 1970 went through a myriad of permutations, actually sporting over 40 various members at one time or another. The early 70's also had them signed to Motown for a little over 3 years until '74. Bob Gaudio, one of the originals remained as their prime songwriter along with their producer Bob Crewe. But Frankie was the constant. They were the only American chart competition to the Beatles in the 60's along with the Beach Boys. The lead singer on this #1 hit was Gerry Polci who was a Season for about 17 years.
I never saw the originals playing instruments in any of their other videos. More like a vocal group. But that was all before I was alive. In Jersey Boys they did play instruments.
@@johnj2763 I actually commented about this earlier. And I also pointed out that this song is by far not representative of the greatness that was Frankie Valli back in the day of the original 4 Seasons. I'm talking about hits like Opus 17, Dawn, Bye Bye Baby, Let's Hang On, Beggin', Can't Take My Eyes off You and so on.
Love that you finally got to the four seasons other songs by them or Frankie Valli are grease also can’t take my eyes off of you and my eyes adored you among others great job guys.
Can't Take My Eyes Off of You is such a great song - a pop power ballad. It's a solo by Frankie Valli. Also, everyone's right in the comments about Grease and Jersey Boys!
Great song choice today. Another great 60s song you need to do is Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and the Shondells. So good. And Joan Jett does a good cover of the song too.
@@serasmile6026 There are so many timeless songs they need to be exposed to like Crimson and Clover. They would totally love it, it's a classic. Today's pick is a classic too.
@@ffieditor No, it was of the 60s. 1968. I was a little girl and loved this song! I connect this song with certain things, and it was definitely the 60s! Songs will take you back to places ... at least they do for me.
If you’ve heard of Jersey Boys, it was about them! It’s been a movie and Broadway Smash! We finally got to see Frankie perform in 2017 at the age of 81! Still phenomenal!🥰
My mom was huge fan and cried when she saw him at an outdoor concert in the 90 's because he was going deaf and could only hit the high notes without sounding off key. A few years later he got a Cochlear implant and he actually sounded great again. My mom had already passed but I knew she would have been thrilled to hear him sing like the Frankie Valli she knew.
The Four Seasons started in the very early '60s when the sound was still '50s pop. They survived the Beatles revolution, and disco, making it to mid '70s still scoring hits like this one. Talent shines regardless of fads, but this is probably why you can hear that mix of styles.
Frankie Valli is a legend in the music business, an amazing voice, and a great performer for several decades. Sherry, Ragdoll, Walk like a Man, the title song to the movie Grease and my favourite Can't Take My Eyes Off You, are just some of the great songs performed by Frankie.
Since I first heard this in 6th grade back in the late 70’s this has been one of my favorite songs. It is one of those on my list of 50 songs if I had only them to listen to forever. 😁 Franki Valli is the falsetto sitting in the stool. That cool sound you heard was guitar scratching. Very prevalent in disco and disco-related songs in the late 70’s.
Some of my favorites are “Dawn (Go Away)” and “Let’s Hang On”, give them a try. I feel like you’ve probably heard them before but didn’t know who they were, like “Big Girls Don’t Cry” or Frankies solo hit “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”...also another Frankie solo that’s a must “My Eyes Adore You”
Just hearing the opening few bars of this just put a big grin on my face. It takes me back to a very specific time and place around late 1975 to early 1976, when I was out hitting the clubs and having a great time. Frankie Valli is the guy not playing any instrument on this but just singing. He also played Rusty Millio in The Sopranos. He is 87 now and still out there doing concerts. The album this track is from 'Who Loves You' is a great album that I have owned for nearly 50 years.
I think he's fondly remembering his first experince with a woman..."she was everything I dreamed she'd be"...and..."I didn't even know her name". In my mind, he found out her name, dated, married her, lol. First times are usually talked about from the woman's perspective, but guys remember them too and tvey can be just as important
This song was released in 1975/76 and was part of the disco explosion. For us rockers this was one of the many disco classics that were ridiculed when hanging our with our peers, but privately became a guilty pleasure! In my personal view, disco long outlived it's welcome but left us with many memorable classics that survived the fad-of-the-day.
Gerry Polci, the drummer, is singing lead on this song (which is my favorite of theirs) & did on some others, but Frankie, the one sitting on the stool with the head phones on one ear, is the main guy but he was having some hearing problems when they recorded this. ALL the singers in The Four Seasons are incredible. I've been in love with Gerry Polci since this came out!!! Still am since he's still a great looking Christian man at about 70!
Listen to Frankie Valli's solo hit "Can't Take My Eyes off You". You might know it from the Lauryn Hill cover. The record company didn't want to release the song because they thought it was too unusual and wouldn't do well... it ended up becoming Frankie Valli's biggest solo hit.
More Four Seasons songs that you MUST listen to : walk like a man, can’t take my eyes off of you, big girls don’t cry, opus 17(don’t you worry bout me)
As I see all the other suggestions that pop up after each video, I realise what a lifetime of music you guys have before you, such an exciting journey as I can think of literally hundreds of brilliant songs, each as good as the other! But Amber, as a hippie , I think you would love listening to 5th Dimension "Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine in".

Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You is a fantastic song. Of course this is exactly what they were saying and they were accurate without knowing how different Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons can sound
Well the whole lineup of the Four Seasons changed from the 60s to the 70.
That "SOUND" is an electric guitar being played through a wah-wah pedal. Those pedals were used in almost every porno from the 70's as well. lol
From what you heard, right?
@@joeevett9007 Sure thing. I've heard many wahs and used many. Gotta love all the old FUZZY movies.
@@joeevett9007 🤣
😂😂😂
With a flute solo for the seduction parts. So I've been told.
Frankie Valli singing Grease is also iconic.
FROM 1978 Amber
I never imagined in a million years someone would link Rush and Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons together. That is one of the reasons I love to watch reactions!!
Exactly!!!!!! Reactions hit on all levels
Ut came back in remixed form in the early 90's and made it into the top twenty on the Hot 100
@@randychampion184 Yes, definitely go find the 90s remix.
Frankie's falsetto was iconic. They were so big in the 60's. I can remember listening to them on the radio while waiting for the bus. Yes, I am that old.
An even better song off this album is the title track, "Who Loves You". RIP bassist Don Ciccone.
I totally agree!
This song is so cool. That piano riff is catchy AF, throw in the disco beat and magic happens. That wocka-wocka sound is a guitar with muted strings.
The sound of the guitar is actually being muted and unmuted with a wah pedal.
@@supasoulproductions yup- wah-wah pedal...iconic 70's sound....
My cousin, Pam, was 9 years older than me. I was six years old in her room. She played "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. This was the beginning of my love affair with music. Music and I are still in love.🎼🎵🎶
Frankie has the most unique voice.
"That one guy's voice was super unique"... Cue Frankie Valli!!
Frankie Valli is a legend,no one sings like Frankie but they are all great singers in this band !
The verses were sung by the drummer Gerry Polci, the pre-chorus (starting "oh I, I got a funny feeling") is Frankie Valli, the usual lead singer, and the little bridge part (the "ball of thunder" part) by bassist Don Ciccone.
Don Ciccone(bassist) past away in 2016. At the age of 70
Their iconic songs were in the 60's, and this was a #1 hit from early 1976. They, like many others, were inspired by the style that was just beginning to blow up at the time - DISCO! Frankie Valli would later hit #1 with a solo hit, the title song to "Grease." :)
Three amazing singers all over the scale!
It's terrific. You need to listen to Rag Doll which I consider their masterpiece. Fun fact: Actor Joe Pesci grew up with these guys and actually introduced members of the band to Bob Gaudio who would be a singer/songwriter for them
I love Rag Doll!
@@BrettLesPaul Me too
I love how in Jersey Boys, Pesci is this annoying kid who hangs out.
@@corvus1374 Yeah, that was well done and funny. He was younger than all of them (I think) so they treated him like a schmo. They had no idea he would become JOE PESCI. :)
Rag Doll is my theme song.
GUARANTEED Amber sway with “My Eyes Adored You”.
It never dawned on me until now that another singer sang most of this song. I love his voice too!
They were huge in the pre-Beatles era with a classic early-60’s Doo Wop sound combined offset by Frankie’s distinctive falsetto. They were one of the few bands of that were to remain relevant through and beyond the British Invasion. This pop song from 1975 incorporates substantial funk elements in a way that foreshadowed the incoming disco movement.
so disco is their fault!
Nice info-thanks for that!
@@scottstewart5784 Love disco and the Bee Gees, so thanks to the four seasons!!!
I named my daughter Brandi for the song Brandy
Love Brandy. I’ve suggested once before when they were talking about songs that tell a story.
Love Brandy. Such a great song with a very 70s vibe
Definitely Lake Shore Drive!
Slippin on by on LSD, Friday night trouble bound
Gary Polci is the drummer. An extremely underrated musician. Listen to his drum work in Who loves you.
Thank you for recognizing the drummer. His voice was phenomenal!
It's Gerry polci ,also was Franky's brother in law
Gerri's cymbal work on Who loves you is magnificent.
OMG Frankie Valli is something special, he’s the second voice u hear….he comes in at 2:45
Watching both of you smile, grooving, enjoying music that was created decades before you were even born brought a smile to my face!
Me too 😉❤
This song is nothing like the hits that made them the legends they are.
Thank you - the originals did not play instruments as far as I ever saw. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.
@@johnj2763 "...went through _myriad_ permutations..."
Saw "Jersey Boys" a few times. Once on Broadway and also in a few other cities. Love that show.
Their story is amazing.
I'm glad you two beautiful kids love the soundtrack of my life. I so appreciate your love for my days of music. God Bless. Terry
Blessed are the drummers who can play and sing at the same time, for it's very difficult to do.
@B Gallagher yes!, she was a very, very talented drummer, a fact most don't recall
Kelly Keagy from Night Ranger is another (Sister Christian)
Brings back high school days in the 70s..oh the memories!
Frankie Valli was such a heartthrob among Italian-American women. Who Loves You Pretty Baby is a great song that I know you will love.
Love that you finally got to the four seasons other songs by them or Frankie Valli are grease also can’t take my eyes off of you and my eyes adored you among others great job guys.
Me alegra que esté gran cantante siga con vida , uno de los mejores que este mundo a visto y disfrutado 🥇🥇❤️❤️🌟🌟🌟👏👏👏
Dustin you always have solid suggestions 👏👏
But it not a 60's song, it was the 70's song, that Im sure of.
@@serasmile6026 There are so many timeless songs they need to be exposed to like Crimson and Clover. They would totally love it, it's a classic. Today's pick is a classic too.
@@ffieditor it's close PJ. It's 1968. Now Joan Jetts remake is probably somewhere in the 70s.
@@ffieditor No, it was of the 60s. 1968. I was a little girl and loved this song! I connect this song with certain things, and it was definitely the 60s! Songs will take you back to places ... at least they do for me.
Frankie Valli was a cousin of the singer in a band I was in, in the late 70's. By then Frankie had changed a lot of his style with his falsetto range.
That Don Ciccone Bass line as he sings "Spinning my head around and taking my body under" never fails to amaze me.
Go Gerry Polci on frickin' awesome vocals and drums!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🎶🎵
I love music that makes you dance and puts a grin on your face.
Since I first heard this in 6th grade back in the late 70’s this has been one of my favorite songs. It is one of those on my list of 50 songs if I had only them to listen to forever. 😁
Franki Valli is the falsetto sitting in the stool.
'Sherry' is one of my favourites by them. Frankie Valli's vocals are on FULL display. It's a fun song too.
There isn’t a song of theirs that you won’t like!!!! They are legend in this time frame!!!
Such a fun song. 💕
It is indeed about his first time... with a prostitute (hence not knowing her name).
In the movie the guys give him a hard time for being a virgin and they hire a prostitute - it ended much too soon but what a night! Lol
@@mortisrat wow
Never put that together - very enlightening - Preeeesh
This song was released in 1975/76 and was part of the disco explosion. For us rockers this was one of the many disco classics that were ridiculed when hanging our with our peers, but privately became a guilty pleasure! In my personal view, disco long outlived it's welcome but left us with many memorable classics that survived the fad-of-the-day.
I love that song! It makes me dance& smile. Nice selection
Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons are fantastic and so many great songs.
