"he can punch me in the face but its not a big deal" - dean lister 2014
Well if you train bjj or mma you know the core of mma that you can only punch certain number of significant punches(I am only talking about bare knuckle fists), In this position Dean puts only his forehead reachable, which mean nothing but a damage for a striker fist, but if he would were a gloves that would be a different story, still his punches would not be significant.
hahahaha
Simonas nesvarbu they would be significant this works amazingly for jiujitsu but not combat jits or mma.
*proceeds to punch his eyeballs with raised right knuckle*
a punch withou hip power like when youre on the bottom is very weak, specially comparing to get submitted
I used this tonight. It worked wonderfully. And yes, the other guy could not figure out what I was doing :) Thanks Dean!
This guy is one of the toughest dudes on the planet.
no doubt
planet jiu jitsu maybe lol
I've been using this successfully for all my training. Love it.
When dean and keenan tell you to do something something. You gotta listen
Awesome to see these guys instructing together!
Really good breakdown from Master Lister on the four phases of defense.
thanks !!
Thumbnail looks like Dean Lister putting a triangle on himself.
Underrated comment :D
I love this.. I can hang out in a triangle more than most guys I train with and can escape more often than not but this looks like a great tool to add!
Omg!!! Thank you so much
Hi Dean - love the idea of a video for what really happened in a bout. I am a newby and I was shocked at how quickly I succumb to a triangle once it's on. I can really see how turning the arm over reduces the pressure over your own shoulder and sets you up nicely to stand up and walk around. Also starting to understand the development of "poise" where by just relaxing you can make a bad position much more tolerable.
Ed, you are right..... i'll make a comparison to a boxer who accepts that he will get hit and knows that is a part of a fight....Being trained in this way makes you mentally and physically stronger.... Wishing you the best in training my bro
Im going to show my guys this tonight.
Thanks mate.
Thanks for the advice
Brilliant dean and thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thank you.
I got caught up in a triangle set up I did not like a few weeks ago. I’ve been obsessed with figuring out options
I learnt the same technique in class with slight variation. Was tired and got caught in a triangle, worked great to get me free and into side control.
Such a cool guy, so much knowledge
he did this for 2:30 in his match against keenan in china. It was crazy. Stupidly amazing defense
keep ur arm far enough up their torso to block elbows
Older video. But I agree 100%. You should start in bad positions to learn how to escape them. It really helps
Thank you man, I use this as a pass! Seems risky I know but it's amazing the amount of times it's worked for me. Thanks again.
My baked ass thought he was triangling himself in the thumbnail 😮💨
Dean fights on such a full spectrum dominance level, even in the fog of
combat, thinking seemingly several moves ahead on positioning locks,
that his nickname should be Dean "Check Mate" Lister or Dean "OODA LOOP
Assailant" Lister. What a delight to watch Dean conduct his mental and
physical chess game on the octagon board. Bravo for the visual treats in
this video, and the glimpse of a true professional at his craft. It's
Dean's world when he enters the octagon and the opponents, though
professionals themselves, often just look like pawns on the octagon game board.
What he say in the end is the whole idea of keep it playful.
thanks dean, you are the man.
having to go up against bigger and stronger guys on a daily basis. resistance is something that has been saving me in those precious seconds when the tank is about to hit its limit and you wind up the getting caught with tightest triangle slapped around your neck. So far, its been working on all but ONE guy, but I'm getting there, Muito obrigado pela licao mestre dean!!!
JasonVarela713 sounds like you are humble... Keep it up.. The attitude you are displaying is the attitude of a champion
JasonVarela713 meo prazer :)
Lister Dean “ o prazer é meu “
Great move! Will try, thanks !😀
Excellent.....
Lister is the Bud Spencer of MMA
"...so when it happens to you, you've been there before"
great 1. gonna try it tomorrow
Works great, just tried it last week.
+George Ou awesome my bro, glad to hear it is working
Unorthodoxy? Yes. Effective? Yes. and that's the key is to do something your opposition hasn't really seen before so that way it confuses him on how to counter it.
Clicked on this because I thought it was gonna be Maynard James Keenan.
Thanks awesome
Great sound......
awesome
Great transition/counter to get some wiggle room to move. Its kind of similar to a stiff arm jam that I learned to stop an armbar....kinda
Dean LIster! I usually stop reading a thread when the comments turn so weird and negative, but then I read your invitation giving jim jones an opportunity to make a little cash helping you improve your game. How did the training go? Was it worth the 100 bucks? haha For what it is worth to you, I am now a HUGE Dean Lister fan. You are a fantastic grappler: physically and psychologically! I tuned in to learn a triangle defense tip, and found a bonus tip on how to handle a troll! Well done. Respect to you, Dean!!!!
+Engine2Truck6 he never offered to come teach me :(
excelente defensa la practicare....
this works better if you have no neck
+bjjESCAPADE I actually have a massive neck!!! hehe ;)
It wasn't mentioned but I think the posted frame of his hands keeps Keenan from twisting with you as you twist.
I love this man
Great
Sick!
first thing that popped into my head was the threat of a baratoplata. seems like he can fit his arm through because of the space between your trapped arm and body in this defense. does that work or no?
Very good!!!
6years ago, i try to defend triangle from my coach .today i still cant defend it .
Nice
Weeell you should've used that when Keenan got you on a triangle on Polaris :D
Hana it was from the back so this escape wouldn’t have worked
Kelly Davis in Macon GA
Dean, does the hand in the floor also stop their hip so they can't follow you ?
+Scott edog yes it helps, however an opponent with good hip movement can make this harder
+Lister Dean thanks Dean, I trained in Thailand with Luc Rousseau about 6 months ago - I lasted 12 seconds before he leg locked me! God to see he got,his black belt recently. Take care. Scott
Scott edog
Luc is really good! so no shame at all my bro:) I gave him his black belt for a good reason
Lister Dean
Can't the guy just switch into a armbar ?
I'm not sure why Keenan isn't teaching dean how to escape a triangle LOL.
It seems as though Dean has a lot of different escapes. Just watched one the other day where he taught escape from omoplata.
Keenan is overall a better jujitsu practitioner. But Dean Lister is known for his resilience and for his submission defense
Because dean is a fucking animal. Everyone gets caught but dean fights it so much better
Because this is Dean's technique.
Do you automatically go to this defense Dean? Or try do you try something else first because this seems like a legitimate first option.
this defense is really last resort, although it works well for me, if I had a choice, I would avoid the triangle of course
Cool that's nice and easy.. cool..
ATTENTION: I love Dean and we all know he is the man (twice the man I am....!). yet, the four levels of defense are a little mixed up...how do you rank prevention second and countering 1st? who do we even conceptualized that...? FINALLY: Dean's wisdom - as amazing at it is - kind of ranks right up there with Mario Sperry's wisdom on Americans and spider guard...why wont you look me in the eye Dean!!!
It's not so much a matter of rank but rather a chronological order, the starting point being in a neutral position and the ending point being getting submitted.
Lister Dean, This may be a stupid question, but would this work, if say, Keanan had that triangle fully locked?
i believe his triangle was fully locked.... its only a good escape with a lot of practice
Lister Dean as I said. It was a dumm question. I found the ADCC footage of your match with Keenan and I was able to see this technique actually work on a tight locked triangle. I really like this approach but like you say, it comes with practice. Right now it is probably working 4 out of 10 times. I am still a novice and have problems passing guard so some times it is easier for me to give in, lets say a triangle, then escape it and work my way up from there. You are an inspiration sir. Keep up the good work
thanks again my bro
***** no such thing as a dumb question my bro. thanks for asking. i'm honored as a coach to answer take care
And Keenan just tapped Dean by reverse triangle at Polaris pro, great match. Hope Dean is doing alright seems to be losing his edge with the two losses in a row, and missing weight
I dunno..Dean is the man. He seems to be very nonchalant lately though - not like he has missed a beat but more like he is just 'somewhere else' right now. Maybe not quite as hungry as he once was Yet, if he were to get hungry: watch out! . Dean is the man. did i mention Dean is the man.....
TechNACITYbjj my mom passed away, it changed my spirit for a while... just a weird energy but it is returning :)
Lister Dean Hi Dean - I believe this is the real Dean because no man would be brazen enough to 'fake' another man's tragedy: I am sorry for the loss. I hope you can take some time to heal - not put any pressure on yourself: recognize that if you never compete again your status is permanently cemented with the other legends of our sport. You are welcome in Nova Scotia Canada at my home as my guest anytime - its a super quiet place with tonnes of beautiful beaches and awesome training facilities. May God Bless you Dean.
thanks my bro :)
Lister Dean appreciate the understanding.. My mom died a bit more than 3 months ago.. So not an excuse, just issues that happen in life.. I'll be back... take care man
Effective
Keenan's a big guy. Doesn't really look like it on the mat, but damn.
is it possible that i may get omoplatled when i try this?
+Waltoco Triangle is a high % sub. If they switch to a omo I would think I have a better chance to get out of a omo then a tri.
+Waltoco won't become omoplata. Must make practice. If do correct, no ca. Defense ;)
even if that happens (prob won't because of the pressure), the point of the video is to get out of the deep triangle. he mentions that opponent can take your back as well, but it's better to anticipate the next spot and work way out than pass out ot tap to the triangle.
Next time, boom mic :)
Sean Cannon I love the smile at the end. Shows that you know who you’re talking to ;)
You might be ok in a low level match but the minute you put that hand down on the mat and turn like that the arm bar is coming, and the maybe the triangle be again or omoplata... Just saying though...
George Wheeler negative, it’s looks like that but no.
Cant keenan just turn with the guy lol
We need to be careful about omoplata after when we escape triangle
Much easier to defend the choke when you don't have a neck
Dean, you didn’t last long in Keenan’s triangle in the match I just watched.
Chuck Johnson that was a back triangle, different move. In our first match, I was in his triangle for a while and escaped using this technique
cool concept and thoughts on doing something different, something your opponent is not used to. cheers mate
cool lil deet
Keenan is hanging with the boogeyman now? Kid is getting scarrier all the time... 8-|
Jesus made escape great vid
😎
no omo
Está mal ejecutado el triangulo es por esa razón que puede salir fácilmente, no lo cerró como debería además si le cierra bien el triangulo y se lleva la cabeza hacia abajo no le da tiempo a nada.. y a dormir...
Daniel Garcia depende amigo. ¿Piensas imposible escapar triangulo?
tree trunk of a neck!!!!
Jeff Chen i'm a tree trunk all around ;) hehe
Wanna know why he can survive long in the tri is bc he has a treetrunk neck! TOQUINHO NECK LOL yo toquinho means HOMEM TEM JEITO lol
Thanks for the demo, Dean. Film guys, please don't put a lapel mic on a fucking grappling demo.
Blockhead yeah u are correct
+Lister Dean I agree, a nice XY condenser stereo pair is all you need. $300 for awesome sound quality.
do an actual triangle.
Какое-то гавно я тут и треугольника не увидел-то
This is NOT A TRIANGLE CHOKE people
and then you get omoplatad
+TheWanggolf nope
i've been told I should have a channel
Talk too much
