Mark this day in history. A Rener Gracie video that is under half an hour. Remember this is the guy who took 15 minutes to tell us how to tie our gi pants.
Actually, wolfgang penselmeister, you saw the video. He showed three different belt ties and properly utilizing the gi pants. I get what you're saying, though. Rener can be long-winded; I can, too. His videos still have loads of neat little pearls of wisdom to heed, though.
I asked Royler how to escape a triangle, he said "I don't know, you tell me?" then laughed. It took me almost half to way to the end of the seminar before I figured it out. For those who are still scratching their heads, he had just tapped to Bravo's triangle and I didn't know that.
I got caught in a few triangles last week and found this video. I used the technique during rolls last night. Worked great! Only problem is, I didn't frame on my head at the end and slide out so when I tried to escape I got caught in a reverse triangle. Looking forward to mastering this technique and eventually not getting caught in triangles anymore!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this triangle escape. Used it three times today during an open mat session. Works perfectly even in a gi. Thank you.
I'm new to bjj, was rolling lastnight and got triangle choke 193837463654573636 times.. lol. Can't wait to go back to night to try this. Thank you for the info.
I have used this escape for over a year now. I am a blue belt and have not been triangled since except for twice, both by brown belts. Trust me it's a major improvment! But I have been omoplata'ed so that is the danger. I also have not really been able to finish the pass like the video indicates. However...its easy to weave your hand inside and just go back to closed guard. In the configuration shown in the video it would be Reners left hand. This is the only escape I use. If I get omoplata'ed. It's easier to escape than a triangle otherwise, and your hand is already blocking the hip so it's no quick finish omoplata they will have to fight. I usually just roll under the leg doing Faria's omoplata escape. But you usually end up on bottom. Better than tapping.
So many videos i forget not long after watching, but this one saved me form a purple belt the other night! i couldnt remember it all, but i was close so im back for review. this purple belt was Frustrated !!!
. Had quite a bit of success with this. Love this escape. Problem is people get wise and grab near side arm and I can't wedge it on their hip.. Guess I'll have to mix my escapes up a bit.👌
well, its a modify elbow down defense, if you cant deal with that arm, you should change to a reverse triangle, then work on that arm, not easy, but its what you should do in these cases.
goku change I've been thinking about this topic for years. I'm finally settling on being ok with open mouth chewing. Given that most of the experience of taste is probably driven by olfaction, I think open mouthed chewing probably greatly benefits the perception of taste. Oss.
i think the only way to escape a triangle choke is to do so before the guy pushes your left hand out of his guard from under his thigh. even if he is pushing your head down u can still escape it. once he is the position shown in this video where both his legs are behind your neck and one of your hands outside the guard,u can only prevent it.
So what's the escape once it's locked in? This is more preventing. The key points I've learned once it's locked in is to fight for the hand on the inside. Do not let it get stuffed under your neck. Keep it to the outside of the opponents waste, same side. Then posture up and start turning into the outside of the leg that is wrapped over your neck. Then take the other hand and grab your opponents clothing (as if you were doing a double leg pass from guard while stacking) and commit to the same stack pass. I've broken triangles from even some of the toughest guys with tree trunks for legs. Sure, it hurts when you're doing it but you don't get choked out and you end up in side mount. Awesome prevention method though. I will definitely have to try this once I feel my opponent going for a triangle.
If you want an escape for when it's locked, that's different video. Triangles can be finished from a partial lockup, so this still counts as an escape.
This works really well. Do it all the time. Even let guys set up the triangle just so i can escape using this. Works when it is locked and tight too :)
I like the way you guys teach this jujitsu stuff, and I also do appreciate your characters and attitude. I know nothing about jujitsu and wanted to know if you could point me to your videos that are for very new beginners, if you have basic vids..... It looks all too confusing and advanced to learn, but surely there are basics to this form right? I do recall that dude royce gracie winning a lot of the ufc fights.. THANKS and stay positive brothers!
My problem I have run into is ppl will grab the elbow of the arm that is inside and pull up on it, and that kind of does a chicken wing on that. Haven’t found out how to prevent that yet. Any tips ??
I tried this and it worked, but I have a question: at the first step (block), what keeps the opponent from pulling your right elbow towards him? That was the first thing my instructor tried and it kinda messed the whole thing. Is it just a matter of speed?
This works really well, the only problem is now that one of my teammates will switch the lock and attack kimura or armbar. Any suggestions when this happens?
Ryron's right leg is over the left shoulder even if he posts up on his left hand, he would have to open the crossed legs, which would lead to Rener getting into Ryron's full guard.
There was one video where Renee talks about if you throw the outside arm across centerline you actually make the triangle tighter before it possibly breaks. Anyone have that link?
Would this triangle escape work if someone is say 228 7'4" and you are say 142 5"11"? or is there a better one to use? I know prevent it from happening in the first place but lets just say there is a little bit of muscle behind there attacks and im over powered.
switching to the reverse triangle kills this escape. You transition to reverse triangle it breaks the arm across or wrist locks you. then you switch back to regular triangle to finish.
Boban Milisavljevic ya the reverse triangle kills this escapes... Would like some feed back from Rener on what he thinks or does to stop the reverse triangle. As far as I played with the the reverse triangle is death.
They show you how to escape the triangle. There's no point in staying inside the triangle and protect your head, when you can escape. I'd rather get hit by 5 elbows to the top of my head while trying to escape, rather than get choked because i was protecting my head.
Tim Proc I think it's important for all grapplers to get caught in potentially match ending positions because it's important to know that's it's not over yet. There are multiple triangle escapes that I try and learn including this one but if your taking unanswered blows to your head perhaps there are better options for nonsport juijitsu fighting
MrOttmandus "nonsport" worrying about getting punched in a fully locked position is the fast way to a submission. To answer you don't, the answer lies in prevention and posture.
kanenas don't let them get that arm is what I've found out. I'm no expert but I grab around a thigh when I'm in their guard then reach under their other leg they throw it over think yay triangle but I've got their leg and my arm they need to finish it. pass the leg over and go to side control. wont work on a good bjj player only those who don't see the deception
I'm still waiting to see him escape from the triangle. How about starting off with the triangle already locked in and then show us how to get out....or change the title of the video.
** 4 generations these guys have spent more time in the mats than actually walking.**
Mark this day in history. A Rener Gracie video that is under half an hour. Remember this is the guy who took 15 minutes to tell us how to tie our gi pants.
And its still the best belt instructional on the interwebz
I learned how to tie my belt from these bros. Ain't nothing wrong with that.
tofiysld And if it took you 15 minutes then you have bigger problems than belt tying.
Sayeth the guy who most likely needed the whole 15 minutes.
Actually, wolfgang penselmeister, you saw the video. He showed three different belt ties and properly utilizing the gi pants.

It's impossible to escape triangle choke
bad timing 😂
Ryron trying to say something: ...
Rener: YOU GUYS

if they reverse triangle, you keep your arm under the thigh and roll right back over
this is the immediate thought I had when watched that escape
It's not a beginner friendly escape that I would teach my white belts
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this triangle escape. Used it three times today during an open mat session. Works perfectly even in a gi. Thank you.
I know this comment is old, but you can surprise even higher belts with this move and the other escapes that Ryron and Rener teach.
Block, walk, feed and hug. Got it! Thanks!
I'm new to bjj, was rolling lastnight and got triangle choke 193837463654573636 times.. lol. Can't wait to go back to night to try this. Thank you for the info.
i can't wait for memory chip uploads into the mind. learning bjj will be so much fun.
Brilliant thanks for your generosity in sharing these great tips!!!
youtube should place a love button because i love this move
Glad you enjoyed!
can you do a vid about motivation? like how to motivate yourself, if this is not to difficult to make please.
I have used this escape for over a year now. I am a blue belt and have not been triangled since except for twice, both by brown belts. Trust me it's a major improvment! guy chewing with his mout open in the background, just wanted to give him that feedback in case he didnt know.
also great technique
goku change I've been thinking about this topic for years. I'm finally settling on being ok with open mouth chewing. Given that most of the experience of taste is probably driven by olfaction, I think open mouthed chewing probably greatly benefits the perception of taste.

My man Sam. :-)

one of the best ones I've seen.
another gorgeous one for the arsenal. structural rather than a trick, gi/nogi whatever 👌👌👌
Get a chance to drill this technique?

Love that this is recommended after Khabib v Gaethje
1:37 Where does he block?
Can someone explain what he means by block?
This works really well, the only problem is now that one of my teammates will switch the lock and attack kimura or armbar. Any suggestions when this happens?
Is it still possible to do this when the triangle choke is in the locked position when your arm is trapped.
Great advice 👍 will use
Well that's beautiful! I love it.
You guys are so helpful. Thanks a lot !
Those guys in the background chilling with two legends like its nothing. What i woudnt give haha
I have not been triangled once since mastering this.
Looking forward to trying this one out :D
Great video, love these guys
how do i stop the person from taking my back at 0:34 (they post on their hand and climb)
Ryron's right leg is over the left shoulder even if he posts up on his left hand, he would have to open the crossed legs, which would lead to Rener getting into Ryron's full guard.
Great, but what if a guy in a closed guard is holding your arm or the arm is twisted to the side of his body? It wont work or will it.
There was one video where Renee talks about if you throw the outside arm across centerline you actually make the triangle tighter before it possibly breaks. Anyone have that link?
Will this work with GI?
Oohh weee. Looks good. If it works against Ortega, that says a lot!
Insane that I've never seen this before. ❤
Amazing technique!
bad ass move!! simple and quick
this really does help block off triangles, however whenever I try it they always start picking at my arms for armbar counters, is there any solutions
I figured out what to do, take the arm that is not under the thigh down and puush or pull up the foot
As a jiu jitsu guy i always wonder why we snap our fingers. And way we do that surfs up finger sign haha
I can't believe. Rener's video in less than 2 minutes?
Would this triangle escape work if someone is say 228 7'4" and you are say 142 5"11"? or is there a better one to use? I know prevent it from happening in the first place but lets just say there is a little bit of muscle behind there attacks and im over powered.
Nice trick. Must be careful since the right hand is exposed to armbar.
Literally did this today in class. Worked great.
What about if someone's raining down elbows on your skull while ur trying this??
Very helpful. Thank you.
switching to the reverse triangle kills this escape.
My favourite triangle defence
anyone know what this escape is called?
Great vid gents.. smooth and smart😎
the girl in background enjoy her pasta more than the triangle ;)
Supermomo2007 its a guy
and it's smartphone too.
Would this work in the gi ?
Really simple but can't the opponent post their arm to prevent you from pushing their legs and the hip to the side?
great move
Awesome. Also takes away the transition to OmoPlata
can you do that in the gi also ?
Thank you.
Awesome 👏🏻
awesome
Does this work in gi?
Lol sam in the back like....( screw this I'm hungry)
Yes in Bjj but what if mma or fight??!
Can Ryron show his technique he was thinking about before you started showboating!
Block, walk, feed & hug
ive been doing this wrong for years now and its still works hahaahah. imma get it right soon
It figures the Gracie's living room has a mat.
That was incredible
This was very useful
how would you protect your head from punches during this?
They show you how to escape the triangle. There's no point in staying inside the triangle and protect your head, when you can escape. I'd rather get hit by 5 elbows to the top of my head while trying to escape, rather than get choked because i was protecting my head.
by not passing out first. As they say "You done already fucked up" getting triangled
Why not stand and fight like a real man?
MrOttmandus "nonsport" worrying about getting punched in a fully locked position is the fast way to a submission. To answer you don't, the answer lies in prevention and posture.
My daughter (12) got caught and tapped to the triangle.. drilling this tonight.. thank you professor.
Gracias!
Awesome!!!
THAT'S AWESOME I ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW HOW TO ESCAPE A TRIANGLE CHOKE THANKS
I see that remain open the reverse triangle
I like jackson version he grap his opponent arm and slam hahaha. He did that to Arona in Pride FC.
I haven't been triangled since applying this video. On my 20th plus triangle escape...
kanenas don't let them get that arm is what I've found out. I'm no expert but I grab around a thigh when I'm in their guard then reach under their other leg they throw it over think yay triangle but I've got their leg and my arm they need to finish it. pass the leg over and go to side control. wont work on a good bjj player only those who don't see the deception
good points bevan. thanks
Amazing
Ty
when will Rener and Ryron constant battle to try to explain techniques without interrupting each other will work for once?
Thx u
Good to know this
I'm still waiting to see him escape from the triangle. How about starting off with the triangle already locked in and then show us how to get out....or change the title of the video.
Wow thats amazing seriously
simple counter is locking the reverse triangle
1:44,attacker-just spinn to right, and i have triangle from back.
Trying to stop my uncle from choking me out. Thanks!
It is nice but the triagle isnt closed
The whole crew
What are you guys in the back eating?!
1:49 Rener's left fingers and wrist are exposed to locks.
White belt saying this worked TWICE against my triangle lovers i roll with.
WOW I will use that! Peace
All the tringle escape techinuqes work You know way becuse ther is no real tringle but if You want to test the techinuqe use it under(real tringle)
It works
There is another
