I'm late to the party, but: 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6 is the best order. It still allows for the vader reveal then gives you a flashback montage of movies to set up the finale.
Oooo! This is a great recommendation! I have had this debate over the years with how to bring my younger generation of friends and family into the star wars world. Best advice to date
William Gabriel I’d say 1,2,4,5,3,6 for first time viewers. They’d be tricked into thinking Anakin died a good man by the hands of Vader until the Empire Strikes Back reveal. Then you’d have Revenge Of The Sith right after to show how Anakin was corrupted.
I remember as a kid, very new to Star Wars, always being confused as to why episodes 4, 5, and 6 looked so much older than 1, 2, and 3. Didn't understand the concept of 'Prequels' at the time.
@@psychoticsickhypnotic And then you looked up when they came out. Lol. 1999, 2002 and 2005. I didn't even know they came out then. I guess I was too young.
Imagine if Episodes 1, 2 and 3 were made first: Mark Hamill as Anakin Skywalker Carrie Fisher as Padme Amidala Harrison Ford as Obi-Wan Kenobi Alec Guinness as Qui-Gon Jinn
Disco Saturn Loves To Do Subtitled Comedies and Other Things 24/7 or or, we can not , I mean, why ruin a perfect film prequels trilogy with OT boringness?
Bad casting. Only sir Alec Guinness fits. Mark Hamill is not believable as a bad guy at all. Hayden Christensen is. Carrie Fisher is not graceful enough for Padmé. Natalie Portman is. Harrison Ford... Well, just his accent from Chicago is a bad beginning. Ewan McGregor is simply Alec Guiness' reincarnation.
My coworker, who is fairly young, said he watched Star Wars for the 1st time chronologically 1-6 and the big shocker was when Anakin turned into Darth Vader and NOT the Luke I am your father scene, I was surprised and thought was an interesting perspective on the whole franchise
Because if you watch them in order then in number 3 you already know anakin is Luke's father, so when the I am your father part comes later the audience already knows.
I believe that's the order to watch them. And I'm a 44 year old who grew up with the originals. I used to argue with a work colleague who used to say you have to watch 4 5 6 first otherwise Vader's reveal in empire is meaningless but I disagree. We as the audience already know but we also know that Luke doesn't know so when he reveals it it's like watching a soap opera where some guy is cheating on his wife, we know, but she doesn't and when it's revealed to her by some guy we are like "oh no he didn't!!!". It still works.
Robert Ward I used to argue to watch 123456. But after seeing my ex reaction - “dude it’s your son/farther, have the same name...” I would now recommend to watch 4, Rogue 1, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9
Alex Joseph I watched them for the first time from 1 to 6 and I was so shocked when Anakin became Darth Vader, even though I obviously knew about the “I am your father” line. I don’t know, it’s just so unexpected.
I was not alive when the OG, first film came out, only a baby, for the II - and I recently did the prequels.... And now all of a sudden I want to watch the OG series, Ha. I always liked them but I never felt pulled into the emotion of the story. But with Ani's trilogy it had be emotionally invested and after the 3 movies and lots tears lol I watched the first 3 with much greater interest than when I was a kid.
@@Jeffees Is it a hobby of yours to talk to people you don't know and be rude? Are you usually a jerk, or just having a bad day? I was speaking about the OG trio. I'm an 80s baby, so of course I saw them as a kid... But I was too young to really have it impact my life, as opposed to - if I was a teenager. The prequels though, I was an adult. Seeing them gave me interest , and thus I rewatched the OG trio, and they actually helped in growing an investment into the story. As far as spelling, if it hurt you that much, I'll be happy to edit. It was obv a mistake. I have a 3-day migraine, maybe give people a break. You don't know about their lives.
My wife is new to her love of Star Wars. So, we're watching everything, including the Clone Wars & Rebels, in chronological order. The world is so vast that chronological order has helped her keep track of who's who and what everyone is up to.
Alright, I'll explain the *best* order to watch 1-6 in: First, you start with episode 1. Episode 1 helps set up the universe Star Wars takes place in and introduces us to characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. (If you really want to, you could skip this movie as it doesn't really "set up" any of the other movies.) Then, you move on to episode 4. Now you are somewhat familiar with the world and some of the characters. You notice things like Skywalker being mentioned over and over and you hear Obi-Wan say that Vader killed him. After that, you go to episode 2. You see the Jedi in their prime. Anakin and Obi-Wan are fighting together in the Clone Wars just like Obi-Wan said in episode 4. In this movie, you also get to see Count Dooku. To make the hint that Anakin becomes Vader a little more surprising, episode 2 can serve to mislead the viewer into thinking Dooku is the one who becomes Vader. At this point, all we know about Vader is that he killed Anakin Skywalker, and in the movie he does defeat him pretty easily. Both Vader and Dooku are tall, have british accents and dress all in black. This is, of course, only for someone who hasn't already seen episode 5 before, or heard anything about Star Wars. You then move on to episode 5. The reveal that Vader is actually Anakin is much better with the support of episode 2. Partly because it gives more of a setup with Anakin slaughtering the sand-people, giving the twist more ground and making it more believeable, and partly because the viewer has been mislead into thinking Dooku is the one who becomes Vader. Next is episode 3. Now that you know Anakin is Vader, you get to see how he ended up that way. But mostly, episode 3 is just a great way to set up episode 6. Episode 3 also "reveals" (although it's obvious) that Palpatine is actually the Emperor. Finally, you watch episode 6. After seeing the tragic fall of Anakin Skywalker, you sympathise a lot more with him and you're now as convinced as Luke that he can be saved. The reveal that Luke and Leia are siblings doesn't really come as a twist, but it was never a strong point in the movie in the first place, so it doesn't suffer much. The reason you jump back and forth between the trilogies is because it fits with Lucas' idea of the trilogies "rhyming" with each other. Even though they have (mostly) different characters and is set in a different time period, they tell basically the same story of an orphan boy on a desert planet learning to become a Jedi. The biggest difference is the ending where Anakin chooses the dark side and Luke chooses the light side. Both of them had a choice to make, and each picked different options. A similar thing happens with Palpatine. In episode 3, the Jedi come in and try to arrest/kill him, but he manages to beat them, partly because of the help from Anakin/Vader. In episode 6, another Jedi, Luke, comes in and tries to kill him, but now Anakin/Vader is on the Jedi's side and helps Luke kill Palpatine. The trilogy-"hopping" also gives a really nice juxtaposition. There is already a juxtaposition in both the prequels and the original trilogy with episode 4-6 being set in a much darker time in the galaxy, while generally being more lighthearted in its tone. 1-3 isn't set in such a dark time (except for the end of episode 3) but its tone is generally a lot darker and a lot of the themes are much grittier. Going back and forth between these two juxtapositions gives another layer of it that makes the movies a lot more enjoyable.
It's actually wrong, he never really changed the script. It was planned that Darth Vader should be Luke's father, but to keep it a secret, the script said Obi-wan killed your father
George had some technical know-how but those films never would have been possible without the talent that worked alongside him on those films. His team of editors that cut out all the fat and made brought more drama and excitement into the movie and to the 2 other directors who shot Empire and Jedi.
No. It will be that all characters end up on Star Killer II but they all go down with it. Then they start fresh with 10, and hopefully don't mess that up. I wouldn't mind that!
@@Bogeyman19DidNotScareMyAss The movies suck, the story is great. ROTS is a very good movie IMO, and a great payoff that make watching 1 and 2 worthwhile.
I watched Star Wars In chronological order (1-6) but I some what regret it because if I watched them starting with the original trilogy I could have gotten that shock when Darth Vader revealed that he is Luke’s father.
Chronological order is best for subsequent viewings (unless you’re around any fan like Homer walking out in that episode of the Simpsons*), but it’s best for newer viewers to be shocked at that revelation *Some fans never shut up about Vader being Luke’s father. Hard to avoid it. I never saw Thelma and Louis and I already know the ending. People just kept talking about it. Wayne’s World 2 made fun of it. Thelma & Louise is my version of Homer saying: “Wow what an ending. Whoever thought Vader was Luke’s father.” River Song calls: “Spoilers!!!” In all fairness, didn’t everyone think Vader was lying until Yoda confirms it in Return of the Jedi? That’s the real revelation 🤣
Joe Nesvick I definitely see what you mean. When I have kids I would definitely want to show them the Star Wars films when they first came out so they can get that shock feeling at the plot twist (or even show it to friends of mine that haven’t seen Star Wars)
TheTrueMorse64 Go with 4 and 5 first so you get the shock of the Vader reveal, jump back to 1-3 to show how that happened, then back to 6 to for the finale.
TheCoopmobile ohhhh so that’s how that 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6 order work. I saw a meme of the different orders to watch Star Wars and I wasn’t quite sure how that worked exactly, but now I get it. (And that meme I was talking about the final part of it ended in the order 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3)
John Paul Everyone used to hate the prequels until the sequels came along. Now everyone loves the prequels and hates the sequels. The same thing will just happen again when trilogy 4 comes around, so just let people enjoy the sequels if they want to
The prequels are still really bad in my view. Just because Disney produced one pile of cow dung doesn’t mean that the previous pile of cow dung turned into a gold nugget. Neither trilogy is even in the same league as the original trilogy.
@@stevencardenas3373 The problem is that's how Star Wars operates. It starts out shit then becomes the fcking face of cinema. Talk about the story of redemption.
well the sad thing about this is although we have way better technology now, the cgi team gets almost no time and money to do their work, thats why todays cgi still looks like shit most of the times. i think it was the avatar cgi team trying to speak about that at the oscars, but they got their mic cut off and months later the company went broke.
The criticism of the CGI I always thought was stupid. Yeah not all of it aged well, but not all the Original Trilogy special effects aged well either, especially the pre-special edition versions. The same people who will tell you the Prequel effects are dated will also try and tell you the Originals effects aren't when they clearly are. The sound quality in Episode 4 has much to be desired in the pre-Special Editions and Special Editions. When people complain about the CGI I can tell they don't know what they're talking about and have a thick set of nostalgia goggles on.
I've never seen the star wars movies and so I finally decided to start it in chronologically order and I just say, I'm enjoying it. I felt like it allowed me to connect to the story so by the time I got to episode 4. I found it easier to watch and get through since I had attempt to watch it from episode 4 several times and couldn't get into it.
They aren’t perfect but we love them and we love to make fun of them at the same time. The new movies are actually hated there’s a difference and a reason. The prequels were Lucas they had purpose and only expanded the universe.
Cloud Strife The prequels are funny as shit but as movies themselves, they are worst than the new sequels. BUT because you can find enjoyment out of them ironically, they are better than the new sequels, even if the sequels are better by a movie standpoint.
@@peppinoandweskerfriendsfor3450 The dialogue and the acting of the prequels are trash, but the story is much better than the sequels. The Clone Wars is by far the best era of Star Wars story wise
4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6... "The flashback order" This keeps the plot twist of Darth Vader, while making Palpatine a mysterious figure in the prequels because he had one moment in episode 5 that didn't reveal that Palpatine was Darth Sidious."
Even though episode 1 gets overly sidetracked with the lengthy race, it completely explains why Darth Vader became the man he did. He had a traumatic childhood, followed by a traumatic teenage-hood, that would probably make anyone predisposed to frustration and violence. He turned out like Jesse James. In that sense, Episode 1 is critical to the entire chain of movies.
C Groot Because he sold all his rights to Star Wars away for 4 billion dollars which just shows how greedy people can be: he chose money over keeping his creation. The thing he spent pretty much his whole life doing.
He actually had good reason for selling it and he's explained them in many interviews. But if you don't want to look it up the main 2 reasons are 1. for the fans. Because he knew disney would and could make a lot more content to them than him. 2. Lucasfilm wasn't making much money under him and he had like 2000 employees to think about so selling the company was the best way to let all the employees keep their jobs. Edit: i actually didn't want him to sell the company becasue i liked what he was doing to star wars back then but i understand why he sold it.
I like the prequels the most. The backstory really helps to understand Anakin and his journey. It makes sense as to why Luke is strong with the force. I like seeing characters have hope and fight against all odds for redemption.
Lucas already explained in an interview that he made Episode IV initially as he felt that it was the best story as it had a backstory and left it open for future movies which, at the time, he didn't think was going to happen. He was sure that the movie would be a flop and didn't expect it to be the success that it was.
I think you should watch chronologically first to really get the idea of the story and watch by release date to REALLY enjoy Star Wars and then rewatch your favorites.
Necro Zima I feel the same, don’t get me wrong there are some great moments in the movie, and I’ll like it because it’s Star Wars. I just hope Episode 9 is amazing and brings justice the the saga
Joe Crawford I agree, I wasn’t a huge fan of TLJ, but it is a Star Wars Movie and there will always be just a few brief moments so cool that I can’t afford to miss them. Solo is a great example of this and I liked it a lot. Some of it was cringey but the fight scene at the end and Maul cameo were great, the Falcon in REAL action again was to good to be true, and The mud planet scene was really cool too.
Joel Hornburg My thoughts exactly, Solo was what a Star Wars movie should be, a fun, compelling journey with well written characters, amazing action and deep gritty subplots interwoven with the mystery of a greater power
I made the mistake of watching the series in 1-6 order. The "Luke, I'm your father" reveal was spoilt because I already knew that Luke & Leia were Anakin's kids. Though yes, the fall of Anakin to the dark side was somewhat unexpected, heartbreaking and his eventual physical transition into Darth Vader's suit was baffling.
Why did 456 came before 123? Because in charge yoda was, then yoda learned grammar and did 7 3and a half 8 then 3 and a half again. Welp you can’t teach him when he’s dead
Count Dooku wasn’t allowed to touch Anakin. He disabled him but was only in self defense. Dooku knew that Anakin was important to Sidious. He was supposed to kill Obi-wan if he could but Yoda interferes.
So I just started watching them for the first time in chronological order and I'm really glad I did. It's amazing to see how well the three sagas connect. The only strange part was Obi Wan and Vader's lightsaber fight in the beginning of IV, but that's to be expected.
Harbinger 7 I will admit played it VERY safe. But it was the start of a new trilogy, freshly owned by Disney and the first movie since the prequels. There was a lot of eye rolls for similarities to the OT, but it was a starting point for character development for the new group of heroes. There was literally no development in any of the characters in Last Jedi. Not including positions of power, each character mentally is still where they were when they started 8.
Jakub Grzybek Only on the list for the Jango/Clone scenes and the Geonosis fight. Sucks we couldn't get more live action time in that period of Star Wars. The TV series never did it for me...the Clone Wars was a FUCKED UP time in the galaxy. If Disney actually gets their shit together and is smarter with their movies, it would be sweet if they did a Republic Commando type film. Where you actually feel more compassion on the ground with these troopers and aren't just sheep for slaughter.
I always wonder why but am glad he stared in episode 4 because if he started in episode 1 then maybe Mark Hamill wouldn't be Luke every thing about the original movies might be different the cast and most of 4,5 and 6 would be CGI
Don’t forget that after the prequels came out there was the remastered version of the original trilogy, adding CGI and other cool stuff that was changed making the original have a similar feel to the prequels
For newbies, definitely in the order they were made. Also think the fact that he had to start with 4,5,6 was really meant to be. The Force willed it. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
You really can't watch it 1-6 unless you want the whole "I am your father" part ruined. I was hoping, back when they were making ROTS, that they would find a way to "kill off" Anakin and introduce Vader without showing that they were the same person. That would have at least somewhat preserved the "WOW" factor of "I am your father!"
prvtcaboose And that’s why I always suggest the order they were made. Just start with 4,5,6, then 1,2,3, etc etc. That’s the way to get the expercience most Star Wars fans had that were there since the 70’s. I love that the prequals went back into time and showed the backstory. Same principle has been done (somewhat) in the Godfathere triology where we get flashbackss of Vito’s life. That’s different since it’s just scenes instead of a movie but sort of simular still. I pretty much feel that ‘77 Star Wars (A New Hope as it’s called now) is the perfect introduction to it all.
Gotta watch them 4,5,6,1,2,3,7,8,9. The reason being, the whole "Darth Vader is Luke's father", is such a plot twist, that would not exist if you started with Episode 1 !!!!
I agree with that order even though most people know about the twist. Why? Because episodes 1 and 2 aren't that great, which might be a turnoff for a newcomer, and it's not like you need to watch 1, 2 and 3 to understand 4, 5 and 6.
Ah, but watching the Prequels first creates the plot twist of Palpatine being the Sith lord and creates tension when Anakin is trying to choose between saving Mace Windu or palpatine.
On the audio commentary George Lucas said he was forced by the studio to deleted Episode 4 A New Hope from the original 1977 release. Not that anyone, but me, watched the audio commentary Now I like the prequels, even when it seems Padme falls for her stalker way too fast. Funny thing, George had a cowriter for the weakest prequel: Episode 2 Attack of the Clones. Maybe we should blame Jonathan Hales for the rushed romance 🤣 Watch order? The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, The Clone Wars, Revenge of the Sith, Solo, Rebels, Rogue One, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens & then The Last Jedi (my least favorite, but I still like it). If you only got a day or two, reluctantly cut out The Clone Wars & Rebels (or watch a few selected arcs).
@@doubledecaf6938 I know, but I think it's cool to watch episode IV first and then see how the events you just saw came to be by watching Rogue One afterwards. I recently watched them in the order 4, RO, 5, 2, 3, 6 and loved it
STAR WARS EPISODE 9 HAS TO BE OUR INFINITY WAR VERSION OF STAR WARS !!!! Personally I do believe that episode 9 needs to have a Part 1 and a Part 2. Fred/K.S
Fred /K.S I don’t really think part 1 and 2 is a good idea. Yes it gives more time for story and characters but then we’d have to wait even longer for the ending
@@christineanderson6750 First order Stormtroopers seems the same more than enough to me and they were real actors in real armors. I can get that for the big battles they are cgi but at least for closeups there could have been like 5-10 real actors in armor.
Newbie here ! Just watched all of the movies last week and loved them. I watched them in traditional order from 4-6 1-3 7-8 rogue one, solo. Personally, I feel the chronological order is the best order for the Star Wars movies to be in. Watching the OT gives you that wanting more to know what could’ve possibly happened all those years ago that made obi- wan and Vader the way they were. I feel that this desire to know more caused by the OT is part of the reason the prequels are great. The OT seems to me at least, more story driven while the prequels are good at world building and giving backgrounds, which is my favorite thing from a series. They both have their strengths but I feel the best way to watch is in chronological order
Having watched the trilogies multiple times now I myself only watch them from 1 to 6, but for new people I'd recommend watching 4 to 6 and then 1 to 3, as this is also the order of quality (rising) in my opinion, and it should also be easier to grasp as the prequels have way more detail and information which you might not want to be bombarded with from the get-go
Made my 6 year old watch them. Let him pick the order & he chose 1-8 ( as well as Rogue One & the Clone Wars in between ). We already bought tickets for #9 in the theater. Can't wait to take him.
Real explanation is very simple: he didn't know it was episode four. It's so obvious there was no continuation plan for the series - the ending made it seem like all of the bad guys could have easily just been declared dead, there was definitely no concept of Luke being Vader's son, the Emperor wasn't seen until The Empire Strikes Back. It probably wasn't until years if not a decade after Return Of The Jedi that they came up with the prequel idea.
@@BuzzardPlanet97 😂 Yeah, because the original was going to be the only one. It's very obvious if you analyze the context. That's why Lucas started to retcon everything starting in Empire Strikes Back. Maybe he had a vague plan to make a prequel series, but he didn't have it planned out from day one or even by the end of the original trilogy. Hence the plot holes.
Marc John I’m aware that he didn’t necessarily realize the original was going to be 4, all I’m saying is he was obviously planning on making prequels because otherwise why would the next ones be 5 and 6 lol
Bubbly Brook okay so basically you’re introduced to Luke in 4 you learn about his journey, and in 5 to no one whose never seen Star Wars the darth Vader is Luke’s father isnt spoiled by watching the prequels first, and then you watch the prequels to see anakins story and then 6 to see the conclusion
SPOILER the chronological order is the best for a newbie. because almost everyone knows that "no Luke, i am your father" it's been used so many times in the pop culture there's very little chance that anyone does not know about Vader being Luke's father. however if the newbie doesn't knows the big reveal then either machete or the release date order works.
I heard YEAARS ago that he didn’t wanna make episode I II III first because the special effects weren’t good enough for what he wanted and could get by with IV V VI first
I’m. Star Wars newbie. I’ve never liked Star Wars even when my best friend was a Star Wars nut But 2019 When I got Disney + Is when I sat down and binged watched 1-8 All where great but going from bad to good cgi and then none with the older films was weird but story was so good that I over looked the old grainy look of the older ones Now I did skip solo story and Rogue one But will Watch them soon
@@f3p I thought it was very weak. And I do like the prequals. Hell I don't even mind JarJar, I thought folks reaction to him was way over the top. But from the prequals only the first "felt" like a star wars film to me.
For a newbie, who has NEVER watched the films, the best watch order in my opinion is : 4,5 & 6, take a week off to absorb it all in. Then back to 1, 2, & 3, Solo, Rouge One. Then watch 4, 5 and 6 *again*. Then the Mandalorian, 7, 8 (if they absolutely must), and then 9.
Lawrence Reid Agreed. It was such a letdown. And they don’t even really make it clear why Old Luke so disillusioned. If young Luke had only known what was in store for him, maybe he would’ve let the emperor kill him when he had the chance in VI.
So I've been trying to find out as much about the George Lucas outlines as I could and it seems like the grumpy Luke Skywalker in self imposed exile was part of his original outlines. Although not all his students were killed. Another important difference is that Luke was suppose to be introduced early in Episode 7. The first part of the movie was the proto-Rey named Kira searching for Luke and finding him. Then the rest of the movie would be her convincing him to return to the fight and help save the galaxy. Basically he'd start being his old self again by the end of the movie and going on adventures with Kira for the rest of the Trilogy which he would die at the end of Episode 9. This actually falls somewhat in line with what Gary Kurtz describes as the original plan for Star Wars. Originally Episode 6 was suppose to be a much darker movie with Luke turning to the dark side and the rebels losing at Endor. Leia wasn't Luke's sister. Luke's friends would seek out Luke's sister who would then bring him back to the light and then Luke would train her to be a Jedi with a final battle against the Emperor at the end. This obviously changed as George Lucas got burnt out on Star Wars, wasn't sure he'd make more movies and wanted it to end on a high note. When I think of the Lucas outlines in comparison to the actually Sequel Trilogy a lot of it made it's way into the Sequel Trilogy. The issue is non of it is properly set up. These moments are ad hocked in with non of the context to make them work properly. The search for Luke Skywalker in TFA is basically the first act of GL's Episode 7 stretched over a movie so Luke doesn't steal the limelight from the new characters and gives Abrams time to rehash the Original Trilogy. Episode 8 not having a time skip makes way more sense. Rian Johnson is attempting to continue the story of the Lucas outlines. The big issue is he doesn't spend nearly enough time developing Luke as a character and the movie gets way too sidetracked by a useless B plot and frustrating C plot and then they decide to kill Luke Skywalker off dashing hopes of seeing further adventures with him. Now compare how the audience reaction of what could have been and what was. In George Lucas's Sequel Trilogy fans see dour old man Luke. It is probably jarring as hell at first, but because Episode 7 establishes it early there is time to develop it. Not only that , but devote time to him having a turn around. Luke is alive at the end of 7 with two movies to see more adventures with him and to see him form a relationship with and train Kira fulfilling his promise to Yoda to pass on what he has learned. Finally ending his journey with his death at the end of Episode 9. That send off possibly being way more impactful. The Rey Skywalker moment might be a relic of the Lucas outlines and it would make way more sense when Kira and Luke spend the whole trilogy together for her to take up the Skywalker name. With The Force Awakens we spend the whole movie looking for Luke Skywalker while also getting side tracked by Starkiller. We finally get to Luke, but it's a cocktease the movie is over. We spend two years fantasizing about what Luke would do and speculating why he is on that island. Then Episode 8 comes out and drops it on us after all this hype has built up that Luke is just there to die. He stays that way the whole movie, has a heel turn at the end to only end up dying never to be used again. Yeah I can understand why fans were pissed. They lengthened the least important part which was finding Luke, made us wait 2 years for Luke and then give us the most jarring part of this story at the get go. Then they condensed what is probably one of the most crucial and important parts of this story. So Luke's turnaround at the end doesn't feel genuine and Rey's force abilities continue to feel unearned. What's worse is we can't see Luke develop more because he's been killed off. The Sequel Trilogy manages to drag things out and rush things at the same time.
I feel the same way you do buddy. I love the prequels, but the OGs are one of a kind. It’s a whole different ball game to be able to compare 4-6 to 1-3. My fiancé however never watched Star Wars until she met me. She hates old movies. She thinks they are outdated due to lack of technology and therefore not as good as good as newet movie, which is fine. But in my mind i find that hard to comprehend. Uk like if you watch Terminator 1 vs Terminator Dark World or whatever it is, they are completely different, but they are on different planes of movie styles. Just my opinion
I managed to surprise my niece with Anakin becoming Vader in Episode 3. She didn't really notice Palpatine calling Anakin Vader(probably didn't help I talked during that moment). Then when that mask comes on her reaction was priceless. I have video of it on my channel. Another reason to show her Episode Order first is it makes Vader's turn around at the end of Return of the Jedi way more impactful. I remember hearing a story from a guy whose younger sister saw the Prequels and The Clone Wars first and Anakin was her hero. So seeing Anakin turn back to the light meant a lot to her. Not only that she got really excited when Hayden Christensens force ghost appeared at the end. Episode Order also deals with certain issues a lot of older fans had watching it in release order. For example it seems really weird that Darth Vader built C-3PO. These characters are arbitrarily brought together, but in Episode Order Anakin just happen to be a kid who built C-3PO. He later becomes Vader and the maker is separated from his creation. You have a similar siuation with Yoda. A lot of fans think fighting Yoda is inconsistent with his character in Episode V, but this is a younger and earlier Yoda who isn't as experienced. When Yoda says "Wars not make one great." He says that because he fought in a War and he sure as hell didn't feel great when it was over. Yoda's whole speech on relying on the force is so important because in Episode II the Jedi fear they are losing their strength in the force and adopt the Clone Army to help them win. The scene where Obi wan goes to Kamino is actually meant to mirror Luke going to Dagobah. Suffice to say the Jedi lost faith in the force and the Clone Army meant to replace it destroyed them. It's why Yoda stresses the force being the Jedi's ultimate ally to Luke.
@@ShamanMcLamie Legend. I hate when Prequel haters say Yoda in the Prequels is character assassination, "cause Yoda is wise and doesn't need a lightsaber." Meanwhile, it's because of his experience from the warring Prequels to why he's so wise and reliant on the Force. Also as explained in the OT, Lightsabers are the weapons of a Jedi, Ben Kenobi tells Luke to find the Jedi Yoda. Yoda + Jedi = Lightsaber. Plus these people seem to forget the film story telling of Character Development.
At this point, someone should just make a 'Star Wars Theory Just Kidding' compilation.

Nobody Special Yes, well sort of, they helped kill it.
Best recommendation!
For an even more interesting perspective try Solo, Rogue One, and then 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6

Disco Saturn Loves To Do Subtitled Comedies and Other Things 24/7 yea im glad it goed differnt
That's what I like about starwars. No matter what order you watch the film's there is always something that can be the "twist of the series"
Alex Joseph I watched them for the first time from 1 to 6 and I was so shocked when Anakin became Darth Vader, even though I obviously knew about the “I am your father” line. I don’t know, it’s just so unexpected.

My wife is new to her love of Star Wars. So, we're watching everything, including the Clone Wars & Rebels, in chronological order. The world is so vast that chronological order has helped her keep track of who's who and what everyone is up to.
Alright, I'll explain the *best* order to watch 1-6 in:
First, you start with episode 1. Episode 1 helps set up the universe Star Wars takes place in and introduces us to characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. (If you really want to, you could skip this movie as it doesn't really "set up" any of the other movies.)
Then, you move on to episode 4.
Great way to watch star wars mate!
I love it when people speak with intelligence and love about Star Wars. A very well done and thought out process.
The only bad part of this is that it isn’t public enough. Star Wars beginners should all get to know this order

*Some fans never shut up about Vader being Luke’s father. Hard to avoid it. I never saw Thelma and Louis and I already know the ending. People just kept talking about it. The same people who will tell you the Prequel effects are dated will also try and tell you the Originals effects aren't when they clearly are. The sound quality in Episode 4 has much to be desired in the pre-Special Editions and Special Editions. 👍👑 Why doesn't Disney let George have some say in the new trilogy ?
I am groot
He should have a say he started it all
C Groot Because he sold all his rights to Star Wars away for 4 billion dollars which just shows how greedy people can be: he chose money over keeping his creation.
C Groot thank you! my thoughts exactly...
He does
They should have started with episode 66
JOSEJOSESITO Director Cody, execute episode 66.
I like the prequels the most. The backstory really helps to understand Anakin and his journey. It makes sense as to why Luke is strong with the force. I like seeing characters have hope and fight against all odds for redemption.
This is the question of life.
He also started at four because at that time people actually liked sand...
Michael Simkins calm down bro
Lucas already explained in an interview that he made Episode IV initially as he felt that it was the best story as it had a backstory and left it open for future movies which, at the time, he didn't think was going to happen. He was sure that the movie would be a flop and didn't expect it to be the success that it was.
Best order I think is by release date for the first time watching. But then chronologically after you have seen them
I think you should watch chronologically first to really get the idea of the story and watch by release date to REALLY enjoy Star Wars and then rewatch your favorites.
Minkey San main reason I disagree is that doing it chronologically first ruins reveal that Vader is Luke's father

Episode II
Episode III
Solo
Rogue one
Episode IV
Episode V
Episode VI
Episode VII

It's optional, but I would. I just can't stand how they handled Luke :(
How about you?
Necro Zima I feel the same, don’t get me wrong there are some great moments in the movie, and I’ll like it because it’s Star Wars. I just hope Episode 9 is amazing and brings justice the the saga
I would watch Solo after 6 just because I’d rather have my child knowing Han Solo as Harrison rather than Alden.
What if Count Dooku killed Anakin and Obiwan in Episode 2.
He coludnt, prequels can't contradict the later stories.
VictoriumStudios 77 plot twist!!!!!
4 5 6 1 2 3 7....No I didn't forget Last Jedi.
7 ? is just as bad as 8
Pierce Because it's unwatchable
*WhAt AbOuT cLoNe WaRs?!*
You should watch the originals first because when you watch the prequels last you understand a lot more of the storyline plus it builds up suspense
What if George Lucas is a Sith Lord
For newbies, definitely in the order they were made. Also think the fact that he had to start with 4,5,6 was really meant to be. The Force willed it. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
The name and pic 🤣🤣🤣
That's how I usually rewatch the trilogy!!

I agree with that order even though most people know about the twist. Why? Because episodes 1 and 2 aren't that great, which might be a turnoff for a newcomer, and it's not like you need to watch 1, 2 and 3 to understand 4, 5 and 6.

Now I like the prequels, even when it seems Padme falls for her stalker way too fast. Funny thing, George had a cowriter for the weakest prequel: Episode 2 Attack of the Clones. Maybe we should blame Jonathan Hales for the rushed romance 🤣
Watch order? The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, The Clone Wars, Revenge of the Sith, Solo, Rebels, Rogue One, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens & then The Last Jedi (my least favorite, but I still like it). If you only got a day or two, reluctantly cut out The Clone Wars & Rebels (or watch a few selected arcs).
Why did the Star Wars movies start with 4?
Order them, Yoda did.
If you do watch them in order, from Episode I to IX, make sure you throw Rogue One in there too, between Episodes III and IV.
Agreed, but if you want to start with the story after ROTS, I'd put Rogue One between 4 and 5
Tim T no but rogue one takes place after rots but before new
Hope
@@doubledecaf6938 I know, but I think it's cool to watch episode IV first and then see how the events you just saw came to be by watching Rogue One afterwards.
I recently watched them in the order 4, RO, 5, 2, 3, 6 and loved it
STAR WARS EPISODE 9 HAS TO BE OUR INFINITY WAR VERSION OF STAR WARS !!!!
Personally I do believe that episode 9 needs to have a Part 1 and a Part 2.
Fred/K.S
Fred /K.S no
Fred /K.S I think for these Lucasfilm people that is too cool for them and they prefer to focus more on SJW politics than the story.
Fred /K.S agree
Fred /K.S I don’t really think part 1 and 2 is a good idea. Yes it gives more time for story and characters but then we’d have to wait even longer for the ending
Episode IX, followed by Star Wars Episode X.
A lot of Star Wars CGI still holds up.
Especially episode 3
I agree starwars had some of the best cgi at the time .
Well I always hated that all clones were just cgi. CGI is great if you do not overuse it. Not like George did.
@@CliffuckingBooth i feel like they should have had one real actor for the clones but the rest should be cgi because they were suposed to be the same
@@christineanderson6750 First order Stormtroopers seems the same more than enough to me and they were real actors in real armors.
Having watched the trilogies multiple times now I myself only watch them from 1 to 6, but for new people I'd recommend watching 4 to 6 and then 1 to 3, as this is also the order of quality (rising) in my opinion, and it should also be easier to grasp as the prequels have way more detail and information which you might not want to be bombarded with from the get-go
I totally agree !!!
Yeah right, Disney said they would honor him and they lied to him!
Made my 6 year old watch them. Let him pick the order & he chose 1-8 ( as well as Rogue One & the Clone Wars in between ). We already bought tickets for #9 in the theater. Can't wait to take him.
PREQUELS FIRST
autotune bacon not only the prequels but the women and the children too
Roy Derg lol
Please come back George, We miss you.
It probably wasn't until years if not a decade after Return Of The Jedi that they came up with the prequel idea.
...except that they were still called 4 5 and 6 (yes I know 4 was renamed later but it was well before the prequels)
Wrong! Lucas has said many times he wrote Anakin's backstory first.
@@MrParkerman6 Nah dawg, he definitely didn't.
Marc John I’m aware that he didn’t necessarily realize the original was going to be 4, all I’m saying is he was obviously planning on making prequels because otherwise why would the next ones be 5 and 6 lol
A new hope was I think just Star Wars
The Smuggler’s Den it was marqueed that way after people saw the full title & got confused.
I wish he would have made all 9 movies. The new movies make the prequels look legendary. Rogue One was solid but 7 8 and Solo were pretty bad.
Eazy E solo was great 👍🏽
Whenever I recommend Star Wars to a person who’s never seen them I tell them to start with 4,5,1,2,3,6
1,4,5,2,3,6
why
wut??
Bubbly Brook okay so basically you’re introduced to Luke in 4 you learn about his journey, and in 5 to no one whose never seen Star Wars the darth Vader is Luke’s father isnt spoiled by watching the prequels first, and then you watch the prequels to see anakins story and then 6 to see the conclusion
Good order
I don’t complain when it comes to George. He had a vision. Disney and Kathleen Kennedy only care about money and their own personal views.
Also there was no high ground at the time for poor old obi wan
Michael Simkins why so salty
Yes, thank you. That was very helpful. May the Force be with you.
SPOILER
the chronological order is the best for a newbie. because almost everyone knows that "no Luke, i am your father"
it's been used so many times in the pop culture there's very little chance that anyone does not know about Vader being Luke's father.
however if the newbie doesn't knows the big reveal then either machete or the release date order works.
When I was a kid in the 80s renting the OT from the library I had no clue there was no movies 1-3. I was like where are the rest of them?
I heard YEAARS ago that he didn’t wanna make episode I II III first because the special effects weren’t good enough for what he wanted and could get by with IV V VI first
Dew it
RobRibRub The Gamer 4 cancer background
RobRibRub The Gamer 4 stew it
I Gave the 66th like!!!!! DEW IT
Best order to watch Star Wars? Order 66!
Web-Slinger Productions Jedi order
LOL
Bro the prequels are legendary. Not only are they entertaining af, they also single handedly created the greatest memes of all time
I have made my 6 year old watch them in release order - otherwise the reveal of DV being LS' dad is totally lost.
It's so much more powerful than watching Kenobi lie to Luke about Vader killing his father.
Should have waited till they were teens
@Magic Cookies Oh, but it does. It makes one wonder if whiny Luke will follow in his father's footsteps when he finds out about the lies.
I’m. Star Wars newbie.
I’ve never liked Star Wars even when my best friend was a Star Wars nut
But 2019
When I got Disney +
Is when I sat down and binged watched
1-8
All where great but going from bad to good cgi and then none with the older films was weird but story was so good that I over looked the old grainy look of the older ones
Now I did skip solo story and Rogue one
But will Watch them soon
The biggest challenge of seeing star wars I first is the difference in visuals between digital and film. They're all good.
This video is basically ‘prequels: a definition’
The phantom menace is the most star wars film of the prequels. After that they just changed into space action film's especially eps III.
So you did not see the story of anakin developing into Darth Vader in ep 3
@@f3p I thought it was very weak. And I do like the prequals. Hell I don't even mind JarJar, I thought folks reaction to him was way over the top.
But from the prequals only the first "felt" like a star wars film to me.
@@f3p also just to add, the three films were about that, not just revenge of the sith. Now I loved seeing the Obi Vs Anakin fight it was epic.
For a newbie, who has NEVER watched the films, the best watch order in my opinion is :
4,5 & 6, take a week off to absorb it all in.
Then back to 1, 2, & 3, Solo, Rouge One.
Then watch 4, 5 and 6 *again*.
Then the Mandalorian, 7, 8 (if they absolutely must), and then 9.
because if he start with ep 1 he will spoiler: i am your Father
Jlassi Jlali true
What if Luke turned to the dark at the end of Episode 5?
I'm the newbie that is about to watch them all from 1 to 6.. I just finished 1, loved it :) excited for the rest
Enjoy them! I've just started watching them myself. My order has been 1, 2, 3, solo, rogue one, 4, 5. Still have a few to go!
I waited 30 years to see grand master luke Skywalker sad what happened
Such a stupid death
Sequels don’t exist
I’m pretty sure he just wasn’t planning for the prequels
Wrong! Lucas has said many times he wrote Anakin's backstory first.
MrParkerman6 I have been outnerded
@@Coooper1 yea he had the prequels written already it’s just that the technology at the time wasn’t good enough for him to make the prequels.
When my daughter is old enough to watch with me, we will be watching in release order. Otherwise it kills the huge Vader reveal
I hate when Prequel haters say Yoda in the Prequels is character assassination, "cause Yoda is wise and doesn't need a lightsaber."
Meanwhile, it's because of his experience from the warring Prequels to why he's so wise and reliant on the Force. Also as explained in the OT, Lightsabers are the weapons of a Jedi, Ben Kenobi tells Luke to find the Jedi Yoda. Yoda + Jedi = Lightsaber.
Plus these people seem to forget the film story telling of Character Development.
