The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

Imagine a Character Selection screen that lets you pick which moon phase of Khajit you wish to create and play as.
Now that'd be some shit I'd be down for.
Let's make it happen in ES6, though Bethesda would be likely to get it 75% done and cut the content.
Unfortunately i doubt we'd ever get to play as any of the four legged sub races. Unless it were in some weird kahjiit spin off game.
@@dorianrobinette9712 You're probably right. Quadrupeds would require a lot of extra work; they'd need custom animations, armor and weapons at the very least.

I love how every race tries to grandstand their creation as being best except for men, "we didn't exist and now we do, sure we're mortal and not all that mighty but it still beats nonexistence"

What are y'all even talking about, men descend from the "Ehlnofey" like the elves but one group split of becoming the "wandering Ehlnofey", the ancestors of men while the Ehlnofey that stayed in their original homelands of "Aldmeris" became the first elves after the the Dawn Era when the mightiest of gods and architects of creation still walked the plane of mundus. (many still remain but as the unconscious "Earthbones", the pillars of reality)
@@navilluscire2567 But the races don't know that, Nords just believe they are spirits breathed unto Nirn by Kyne, Yokudans have a better idea in that they are spirits trapped in Sep's skin ball who had to procreate normally and live on through their children
We know that Men and Mer are all original spirits from Aethereum who likely crashed to Nirn from another world back when there were still 12 worlds of creation, they became split and changed into Old and Wandering then Mer and Men
Is most of that beautiful scenery and structures from ESO or it's mod, Elyswyr? Don't mean to be a noob, but I haven't downloaded that mod yet, so I don't know. lol

My favorite races to play in Skyrim:
1. Imperial, because they said I couldn't wield a sword and cast magic at the same time. Oh yeah? Watch this!
2. Orc. Who cares if you're butt ugly? Because who would ever mess with the guy that can beat back a dragon with a severed limb?
3. Khajiit. Because they can watch all of Nirn burn to the ground and know that their people will inherit everything, afterwards. Even while they trip balls on sacred narcotics.
I personally like to play as either a Dark Elf, Breton or Khajiit. Dark Elf and Bretons for roleplay reasons, and because I always play as a mage.
As for Khajiit, well, I like cats. They're cute.
@@jahmalmorris9267 Bretons and Dark Elves have a rich history and lore in the Elder Scrolls series. And Khajiit just look cool. I like cats, too.
My most successful Skyrim character was actually a Dark Elf that I "recreated" from Oblivion. In ES5 I built him as a heavy fighter who liked battle axes and war hammers. I played it out that around 200 years later in Skyrim he was starting to get on in years (early to mid 60's if he were human), and he began to rely more on Restoration magic and a good mace, instead. It was a surprisingly effective build with 40% health/30% magicka/30% stamina.
@@GlidingZephyr I actually did the same thing! Although I actually did it from Morrowind. I like to think that I'm actually playing an immortal wizard named Merlin. It's a bit of a tradition for me to make the exact same character in my first playthrough of an elder scrolls to kind of keep the character alive.

@@the_dropbear4392 - actually, due to being the tallest, they're technically the fastest when it comes to walking/running; at least in Skyrim. The Bosmer are the slowest, due to being the shortest.

The khajiit has always been my favorite race of the elder scrolls. I personally am a dog person, but i always pick the kajiit to play. I have a few other characters but my main players are three kajiit. Do'reki

I remember the first day I tried moon sugar. I'd saved up to buy a horse at the stables outside Whiterun, then came across the Khajiit caravan. Screw it. Let's see what they have, I told myself.
After my first hit I only wanted more. A told myself I could still make rent at the Bannered Mare if I was careful. Ysolda knew what was going on, tried to warn me. But before I knew it I was living behind Arcadia's shop under a tattered burlap tarp while I tripped balls on skooma I smuggled over the walls, at night.
Totally worth it!

Suthay are digitigrade (they stand on their toe digits), Cathay are plantigrade (heels planted firmly on the ground). In Morrowind you couldn't wear boots because of this difference in shape. Devs probably didn't want to spend the resources on making a bunch of assets just for one or two races.

As a Thai person, Khajiit is one of my favorite race in TES, not because I'm a furry (Even though I'm a scalie) but because their Architectures are similar to Thai architectures, and it always put a smile on my face to see a Thai culture in a foreign video games.

My favorite elder scrolls race to play as has always been the Argonian. I almost never select any other race. My last play through though I noticed that I wasn’t encountering a lot of poisonous environments and there was very little locations where I found myself swimming under water. I decided ti go a different route as recently I decided to pick the game up again and chose to create an intricate backstory to a Khajiit character and I have found this to be the most fulfilling play through of the game I’ve ever experienced.

I'm really loving these elder scrolls online inspired videos. Even the last one on the thalmor void night conspiracy was spectacular.. Always feels so new & uniquely different from the usual lore we get between the events of morrowind & skyrim. Plz more more more.. Some from summerset plz & any others they have on there, as I haven't played em yet
Ive always wondered what happened during the void nights. Like to the khajit specifically. Their birth form relies on the moons. So what do they look like if the moons are gone? Are they just stillborn? Also their origin story says that the khajit specifically are responsible for the task of fixing the moons if they ever failed. But i think its weird that when the moons actually failed, the khajit weren't able to do anything. I wonder if Azura has forsaken them and they are no longer the chosen race. Or something like that. Odds are nobody will see this comment because its nearly 1 year later, and even though I watched the video on release, I don't think I connected the dots at the time. I wonder if there is some actual in game reason for this or if it is just a hiccup in the lore. It would be interesting to see the wider implications of the void nights discussed in an elder scrolls podcast sometime if there is more information out there. Usually the void nights are discussed in passing as a catalyst for the khajit joining the dominion, but the moons disappearing is a huge deal. Thats like if a daedric prince just stopped existing for a few years. Arent the moons supposed to be higher entities in themselves? And even besides that, were no other races even slightly alarmed that two, massive, cosmic objects just vanished? Its a little crazy to me that the void nights have become such a footnote in history.
I think Azura has Forsaken both the Khajiit and the Dunmer as when those races where in dire need they had to rely on outside help. There is also a semi-canon skit on the trial of Vivec on why Azura cannot become manifest after the Third Age but I wouldn't take that too seriously.
You got good points it's strange how it's treated as just a footnote in history that is only in game by khajit is considered significant by khajit and other races that worship the moon's when in our own world we don't worship the moon but still considered it significant whenever something happens regarding the celestial bodies to the point that we naturally received goosebumps whenever something vague and uncanny valley is happening. Especially when it's something we normally recognize as familiar but something feels off but we can't put a finger on it especially considering that we can feel uneasy about a place we have never been before but instinctively know that what the general feeling the place supposed to give out and that something is off about this place we have never been in before but we can't explain why. so the people in game should all be uneasy, nervous, and should considering the moon's disappearing as ominous and foreboding and for some people probably see that and see it as a sign of possibly the end time leading to a doomsday cult. So the fact that no one but khajit is panicking is strange and not how people's behavior is like in real life. Then again the creator of elder scrolls most likely isn't a psychologist but is a game developer and most likely doesn't put much thought in realistic world building keep in game they tried to make elder scrolls just a carbon copy of every stereotypical fantasy genres tropes you can possibly think of.

I found a table with all the Furskins associated with the 360 days of the calendar. There are some interesting statistics.
They have a 50/50 chance of walking upright or on 4 legs.
There are 16 varieties but can be broken down into 8 base forms and 8 dire forms that are mostly just larger versions of the base forms.
Dire forms are twice as likely as base forms.
10% total are 4 legged and riding size. However they are 20% of the total 4 legged population.
Conversely 40% are 4 legged and small. (80% of the 4 legged population)
Upright are more likely to be small or large. Only 20% of their population are medium sized.
The medium/large upright ones we see in Skyrim represent 30%.
Keep in mind that this is purely the odds for being born on a specific day. Litter size and thus population distribution would likely be dictated by furskin. Assuming an even distribution of litter birth dates and if smaller size meant larger litters, a vast majority of the population (over 80%) would be small and over 60% would be small and 4 legged.
Hardly related, but something I wish to share is that I discovered by jumping up and down in a forge (in Skyrim), you will not only take some fire damage, but your destruction skill will increase as well, albeit slowly.

On the topic of native beast folk, im inclined to say that the bosmer are not of Aldmeri decent. I mean the fact that some have been seen with stag/moose/elk-like antlers or goat like horns makes me believe they are beast folk who convergently evolved do to their god to resemble the aldmer when in fact they probably were more or less goat men or stag men. Give me a pin if u think my theory hs some sort of credence.

Moonpath to Elseweyr has a really nice book in it that gives you an understanding to their way of life and general philosophy. No matter where you are spiritually or religiously, I feel some quality can come of it for everyone.

I’m currently working through a khajiit role. My first thought out role with back story and specific means of approaching the game based on internal beliefs and past traumas. It’s a traditional archer and sneak build, but it’s the first time I’m keeping my character hard up on only focusing missions that fit his capabilities and utilizing strictly the weapons he would be a master of.
It’s changed the entire dynamic in gameplay as I’ve always just more or less selected a character, cherry picked a few skill trees I wanted to master and then took on every single side quest, guild and used whatever spell or weapon that was the strongest. Only wore outfits for practicality, never aesthetics or better enhance strictly specific skill sets - just, whatever was best and most beneficial I’d roll with it.
This conservative and backstory driven approach has made it feel as if I’m playing an entirely different game than ever before this. I’m truly enjoying my Khajiit play through.
I hope that we see other forms of Khajiit in TES 6. Maybe as a quest, we have to assist a housecat Khajitt with something, or we get a much larger four-legged Khajiit companion.
One small issue in this very good video.
As seen in Reaper Marsh in Elder scroll online it can be multiple Khajiit born then the 3rd moon has been visible, but just one Mane. I assume it works like an king, its just one king in an country but if the king dies an prince take over as king. For the Mane you have mane candidates who take over.

Cats of all kinds are my favorite animals in general. So i really love like actual cat folk in any setting. Weather they're bipedal like the khajiit shown in skyrim or just talking lions like in Narnia. Makes me very happy! If there is some real divine being then all cats are their perfect creation, no humans

so it was actually very in character for my khajiit to not take a side in the civil war
I'm a Khajiit and proud of it. Although I do prefer heavy armor when in armed combat. But I will wear lighter mage robes when sneaking, stealth strikes, fighting with magic (can also be done in heavy armor in conjunction with swords), or sniping with a bow. And I will also wear bright and fancy clothes for everyday wear and formal functions. An Alikir hood will suffice as well as a mage hood to protect me from the elements when wearing a mage robe.

Best race in my opnion such a rich, well made, and curious lore. I'm glad TESO managed to represent all the furstocks in the Elsweyr DLC. Very nice.
Suthay are the digigrade Khajiit in ES3 and Cathay are the plantigrade you see in Oblivion, Skyrim, and ESO

One conversation I can’t seem to find anywhere is why on earth would a Khajit leave their homeland of Elswyer and try to settle down in Skyrim? Or why would they even want to temporarily visit Skyrim?
They’re not allowed in any of the cities (the discrimination seems to be worse in Skyrim than in Cyrodil), the Khajit population is very small so joining a community would feel isolated and they prefer a temperate climate/hate the cold.
Other than taking advantage of less caravan competition, I don’t see why they would rather reside anywhere else.

I wish in the next elder scrolls we can adopt children of other races, who wouldn’t want a lil khajiit kid or orc
