Toyota Celica GT-Four: Will this WRC Hero live up to the hype?

The ST205 Toyota Celica GT-Four is a Rally car for the road, it's also my dream car. I'm a huge fan of Sega Rally and so when I had the chance to drive one of the cars from the game, I couldn't say no!
But, will this automotive hero live up to the hype, or am I setting myself up for disappointment?

Mick considered the Supra and Celica GT4 when both came out new and ultimately went with the GT4 (I still remember being in the back as a young kid for both test drives and loved the GT4)

I have a 1991 5th gen GTi Celica. I know exactly what you mean. They are alive. An old ladies car until you drop the clutch and scream past 4500 revs. Then it's rally time. Kids freak out when you pop up the lights at them. 😂

Modern cars lose alot emotion due to the refinement.

It's like a Ford Escort RS Cosworth, but not nearly as good. The critical difference is that the Ford has a significant rear drive bias whereas the Celica has a fixed 50/50 split. The more power you add to these cars the more noticeable it is and the more advantage the Cosworth has. Longitudinal engine, moves more of the weight rearwards so it also has a better front to rear balance too. I like the GT-Four but it was outmatched by virtually all the other road going rally specials of the time: Delta Integrale, Impreza, Lancer, Cosworth etc.

@@Project40Cars They're very expensive. Their reputation inflated their price tag, same for the Lancia Delta Integrale. Today they are double what they were just six or seven years ago. The GT Four is certainly one of the more affordable 90s rally specials. This might make it a good investment while prices are still within reach, if you can consider a car that. I expect them to only rise.

The ST185 beat them all on the rally stages that's why Team Toyota had to boost up this Celica. It was never as good as the Celica it replaced.

In a recent video on UA-cam, Juha Kankunen said he hated the St205 but loved the ST185, but Toyota forced Team Toyota to use it too early before it could be properly sorted out.
