Been a Toyota guy since I got the Mark 3 and drove it to the first fast and furious movie. Spent a few years setting up Honda tombstones before everyone learned how to tune and build properly. Owned Celicas, Carola's, IS 300, solaras, Cressidas, trucks, and finally my daily Hilux today. Love the history of these vehicles. Great job Mark. You changing the game with your content!
I got my '01 GT for 3.5k and it's in great condition. For that price, I can stand to put in that much more and bring it back. So much fun to drive, and I consider myself a muscle car guy.
My first car was an 03 celica that I got for $2k with 90k miles and it was the most fun I’ve ever had, I now have an s197 mustang with way more HP but still miss the little celica and regret selling it.
The 1st gen celica is an incredible car! Will fit a small block Ford and 8 inch rear... damn I miss that car... my baby stang. Some day, will do it again!
I love the 7th gen gts. Fun as heck on the winding mountain roads. I love the look and handling. My only gripe is how much it cost to get more hp from the engine. I'll live with 200 stage 1 and stay there.
Small correction, the 5th Gen Celica (2nd Gen GT4) by winning 3 WRC driver's titles and 2 WRC Manufacturer's titles was Toyota's winningest car and the one that made the Castrol livery popular among rally fans, not the 6th Gen Celica (3rd Gen GT4). The 6th Gen Celica (3rd Gen GT4), was also set for glory. It came close to winning the 1994 WRC Championship but was caught with a modification in the turbo restrictor in Rally Catalunya, which banned Toyota from the WRC. Upon inspection, the FIA president considered the cheat "the most ingenious thing" he had ever seen in 30 years. This made the car known among some fans as the "banned one" Great video nonetheless
I've owned 2 Celicas in my life. A 1983 5-speed and a 1991 5-speed. The 83' was my beater car but I still loved as a high schooler. The 91' was my college and post-college car which I added a lot of aftermarket parts to, and generally had a ton of fun with. Good times. Since then I've owned 2 Corollas.
I've always loved the look of classic American muscle/pony cars like the Challenger and the Mustang, but I've always wanted something smaller that maintains the same vibe. Imagine my shock when Toyota of all brands has something perfect for me in the 1st gen lift back Celica
I remember back in the day Sport Compact Car Magazine (RIP 😢) said the 7th gen cars had possibly the best FWD suspension geometry. I rarely see them on the road anymore. Sad how many cool car seem to have disappeared.
no way, bought a 6th gen celica just the other week (albeit an ST202 rather then the st205) and then this video comes out - even the more base models of these cars are super fun to drive and the exhaust sounds awesome when you chuck a massive muffler on the end. You didnt talk about how legendary the 3SGTE/3SGE engine really is, whcih is one of the better selling points imo - the red BEAMS engine is one hell of an engine and is super fun and responsive.
Man I wish the US market got the 3sge in the GT models but all we got was the 5sfe which has a measly 130hp straight out of a low spec camry, I bet the only reason Toyota gave the US the 5sfe was because it had a 2.2L displacement, and they knew Americans care a lot about the number of L and that Americans wouldn't pay the GT premium when it only adds 0.2L despite adding almost 60hp over the 1.8L 7afe making 110hp (I have the 7afe in my 6gen which has a little bit of character but pretty pitiful). Japan rarely gives the US its truly special cars/engines, but gladly gives it to rest of the markets!
@@darthnosam3313 yeah mine makes just below 200hp at 197hp, its super fun to drive and the engine sound is awesome. and just like many cars in NZ its a Japanese import on top of that, which although is quite common in NZ is pretty cool for other countries
Just about to jump in my little red 93 Toyota Celica GT convertible five speed... she is fun to drive here on the back roads of North Florida and shes still great on ⛽....
My first car was a rusty 1977 Celica GT 5 spd. A few years later I bought a 1981 Celica GT 5 spd. That was a great car, put a bunch of kms on it. Sold it and bought it back a few years later. Skip ahead 25+ years, I bought a 2003 Celica GT 5 spd, but it wasn't what I wanted as it was a bit too cobbled together. Got rid of it. Now I have a 2003 rust free Celica GT TRD 5 spd that doesn't see winter, and minimum rain. It's fun, corners great, more power than the old ones, even though it doesn't have much power compared to everything else on the road today, but I don't care. Celica never was about hugh power, with the exception of the turbo models. Supra was the model with hp. Celicas were always sporty-looking, decent handling, reliable, and good on gas cars that were fun to drive and to look at.
Thanks for the video I think it’s a very underrated platform. I have a 5th gen and 6th gen both with full gt4 conversion’s definitely head turners everywhere I go .
5th gen, ST185 is the rally monster and iconic winning Celica that brought WRC Drivers and Manufacturers cups to a Japan manufacturer for the first time. 6th gen, ST205 had a few stage wins, but no championships and got Toyota banned for the turbo restrictor cheat.
So i have since feb. 2022 the 7th gen pre face and besides the Engine broke down due to lose of oil im rebuilding it after my Apprentice finals next week and will build it as good as new, and even in Germany the car is a rare one and attracts the looks of many ppl ^^ great vid btw
Top tip: if you want your 7th generation Celica to really handle properly, pull the C64 gearbox out, strip it down, and swap the open differential for the hellical LSD from the last generation MR2. It goes straight in, and, with some decent aftermarket coil overs (aim to lower the car approx 35mm), you'll find yourself driving something not dissimilar to an Integra Type R. Go on, try it, it's great 👍
isnt celica c60 not 64? and wouldnt you be better off buying a new quaife lsd instead? also some 7th gen celicas have a facory lsd, and i would say a superstrut 7th gen is alot more like a integra type r
@@arcanevoid9199 No, here in the UK I believe it's the C64 in both models of Celica, which was also used by Lotus, in the Elise. I pulled one out of a standard vvti Celica, back in the summer and did that diff swap (at least that's what the workshop manual listed my 6 speed box as). Anyway, those diffs are interchangeable into any of the C series gearboxes (5 and 6 speed variants alike). The decision not to use the Quaife LSD, was a combination of cost and the fact that those Toyota LSD's are well regarded for being very robust and they work beautifully. If you search about, they do come up for sale here and there, and it can save you £500 (enough to cover the price of a stage 3 clutch and lightweight fly wheel, which you might as well do, while you're at it), on top of which, if the bearings on the LSD are in good shape, that can also save you quite a bit of money over the Quaife option, just don't try to swap your open diff bearings over, to save on buying shims, as it's very easy to wreck them, no matter how careful you are with your bearing puller (don't ask me how I know that 🙄). As car mods go, it's got to be the best bang for your bucks, as you really notice the difference, powering out of corners. I am told those diffs transfer up to 70 percent of the power to whichever wheel is finding the most grip, and, after driving the car extensively before and after the swap, I have no reason to doubt that.
In the 70s, some chevy camaros in California had 90hp, because of the regulations. Most other in the states had 115-140ish if I remeber correctly. All cars were underpowered then
I’m 50. My first car was a 90 Celica GT 5spd. I learned how to drive on this car and loved it. Until I got smoked by an Eagle talon “turbo” I unfortunately didn’t know I was racing a turbo car 😢 I can only hope the rumors are true and they bring back the celica for 2025. It better be awd or rwd cuz I’ll buy it!! Great video btw!!
Love my 03 and 02 6mt gts’s. Fun little reliable lightweight cars, I’ve been saving up parts for years, built my 02 with lots of rare parts and daily my 03. Got stage 3 cams, headwork, suspension, and many other modifications, and rare trd parts. I love these cars and probably won’t ever sell them.

Now the 7th gen Celicas are skyrocketing in Price. Celica GT-S's are getting even more expensive and hard to find, although they weren't as liked as much as the previous generations it's still has that 2zz powa.
They are getting rare and very slim pickens on the market for a decent one. Hardly ever see on the road anymore. Especially a decent one. Best looking body style of any sports car since in it’s price class.
I was scrolling. Found this and watched the whole thing. 👍👍 I daily drive a 92 celica gt. Completely stock. Aside from the 17 inch rims I acquired from a 2006 scion tc (Yes they rub😎) I'll definitely be watching your future content. Do your thing my guy. Peace #CelicaGang
7th gen is arguably the best one. Surprised you didn't mention the 2ZZ-GE engine, as it was so good that Lotus used it in the Elise for half a decade until Toyota simply had no more of the engine to give. Cylinder head designed by Yamaha, cam phasing at 6,000 RPM, redline at 8,300RPM, safely revs to 10,000RPM by only changing out the valve springs. 7th gen weighs 2500 pounds, 700 less than the 6th gen GT-FOUR... that is two super sport motorcycles. Power to weight ratio wise, this means the least powerful 2ZZ-GE 7th gen with 180hp (it was 190hp everywhere else in the world) is only slightly less powerful than the most powerful 6th gen GT-FOUR, 144hp/ton vs. 157hp/ton, and in 2006 Japan got a 200hp 2ZZ-GE which would be 160hp/ton. That 700 pounds makes a massive difference in handling also, as there aren't even really any cars that were made at the time or made since that weighed so little. Even the modern Mini Cooper S and Fiesta ST weigh at least 200 pounds more. I guarantee that the 7th gen will EAT the 6th gen around turns on dry pavement. All of that and it still has four airbags. I've owned various vehicles over many years including an NA MX-5, B7 RS4, and various super sport motorcycles. My 2004 Celica GT-S is my favorite car that I've ever owned!
valve springs are not enough to rev to 10k safely, and the 200hp trd sports m was made in 2000. and not every 7th gen has air bags, japanese models dont but you can get factory LSD and superstrut
@@arcanevoid9199 Yeah I mean, if you break it down logically you at least also need some tuning to get rid of the fuel cut off and to hope to actually make power, but AFAIK only the springs need to be upgraded so as to prevent valve float. Not many people are only going to upgrade springs while they are in there though. If there are some Celicas without airbags then I'm guessing they weigh even less than the claimed 2500 lbs of my US market model... but that is not a car I would want to drive daily. :P
@@techhpro Much like the ones before it, it was way ahead of its time. It basically still looks modern aside from the headlights not having 100 LEDs in them. The 5th generation Celica was styled after the curves of a woman apparently, and if you look at the price range of a 1990 Celica, anything else looks like a cube. Probably one of the most underrated cars in the USA, IMO. MAny people in the USA just don't understand cars like this!
As an owner of a T23 from 99, I love my little ricer. It's not the GTS variant and only puts ~140hp, but that's enough for a lightweight daily driver. Unfortunately, it's sitting still since a few years thanks to a completely busted engine, but preparations are underway to have it finally repaired. But even then I must say, it doesn't top the iconic design of the GT4, especially with the castrol paint job - or the Supra Mk4. Those are just still a level above the last gen Celica.
first car was a datsun 310 my brother gave me an 82 celica and I was hooked, sold and bought an 83 rx7 but came back to own a whopping 7 toyota supras I still have 2 in storage that I got around 99' 3 thousand now worth 50 thousand
Here's a bit of a story about Celica appreciation, I bought a 1983 Celica when I was a 19 cause I thought it was the same as a Celica-Supra...it's not. Some years later I bought a 1990 Mk3 Supra, from a guy in WA in 2015, and when I came to pick it up he said he was selling it cause he needed cash to finish his 1976 Celica and the Supra didn't run. I got to see it in progress and I literally asked him if he would sell me the Celica instead of the Supra. I bet most people today couldn't imagine going to buy a Supra and when you get there asking to buy the Celica instead lol. I still have the Supra though, and for $2,500 I couldn't really pass it up. Mostly because it's high mileage and needed an engine, but minor body dings but no rust at all. Now with a 1JZgte (from 7Mgte), reupholstered interior, suspension, brakes, wheels & tires, upgrades to outdated tech and because it's a US model(LHD) it's worth about $20,000-$25,000. I might still buy a Celica one day though.
The Celica is one of the few cars where I would be happy to own any generation of Celica. The 3rd and 6th gen Celicas are kind of a dream build for me, but every Celica has its potential.

The gt-s is so much quicker and more fun. 40+ more hp. But it's a great car regardless
My first car was an 03 celica that I got for $2k with 90k miles and it was the most fun I’ve ever had, I now have an s197 mustang with way more HP but still miss the little celica and regret selling it.
As an Owner of a 1992 Celica gti (5th gen) i want to thank you ! Celicas are awesome !
Ay wassup same car owner
@@iant1891 ig my boy ?
I learned to drive manual in my dads 83 gt Celica I really miss that car. It was something special.
I had a 4th gen All-Trac and a 7th gen GT-S. Both really underrated and misunderstood, both really truly great cars!
Always loved the celica and now that I'm older looking for one in decent condition is a pain in the ass but still looking for a good one. Great video
This made the car known among some fans as the "banned one"
Great video nonetheless
Thank you for pointing out the oart about the celica being banned, that had alot to do with its death
what was the modification in the turbo
I have a 1st gen and 2nd gen no one cares about the 2nd but I freakin love it completely grew on me
I just picked up my 2003 gts! it’s sick! still pretty stock but give me a year and it will be glorious
Loved this video, Toyota Celica the unfinished symphony
no way, bought a 6th gen celica just the other week (albeit an ST202 rather then the st205) and then this video comes out - even the more base models of these cars are super fun to drive and the exhaust sounds awesome when you chuck a massive muffler on the end.
@@aydenfellerhoff3160 If you own a BEAMS Celica then I think all of them would be imports as they only made them in Japan :)
@@BennyJ69 in new zealand a lot of our japanese cars are imports :) we have one honda factory that shut down and i dont know if theres anything else
Skyrim music pluss Celica history, i find this to be a good thing.
Just about to jump in my little red 93 Toyota Celica GT convertible five speed... she is fun to drive here on the back roads of North Florida and shes still great on ⛽....
I also have a 93 white Celica Convertible 5 speed. Very fun car.
I had a 7th gen GT and loved every minute behind the wheel. It was fun to drive and I hope to someday get a GTS.
The background music is dope.
🤭 Skyrim music 🌌 So classic. hehehe
I agree it is underrated, I feel the same way about the RSX.
I have an 06 jdm Celica. last year made with 31k miles, Recaro seat and HKS exhaust :) it's fun!
My first car was an '01 Celica and I loved that thing.
Thanks for the video I think it’s a very underrated platform. I have a 5th gen and 6th gen both with full gt4 conversion’s definitely head turners everywhere I go .
Yeah they are fun cars I feel like even corolla get more respect now which is bogus
AE86 FTW.
2022 the 7th gen pre face and besides the Engine broke down due to lose of oil im rebuilding it after my Apprentice finals next week and will build it as good as new, and even in Germany the car is a rare one and attracts the looks of many ppl ^^ great vid btw
rebuild it better than new, they dont loose oil for no reason. did you take it on track or something?
"Make RX-7s cry" love the enthusiasm when that was said
"GT4" sounds coooooll
Every Celica owner's dream was to own a GT4 or swap a 3SGTE in a 6gen. Unfortunately I used to own a slow ass ST trip back in the day.
Well damn, I want a Celica now. Great video and history lesson.
get one, they're kind of cheap when it comes to JDM classics and just a lot of fun in general.
Of course that white celica is from Puerto Rico. Looks so good❤
Top tip: if you want your 7th generation Celica to really handle properly, pull the C64 gearbox out, strip it down, and swap the open differential for the hellical LSD from the last generation MR2.
FINELY a celica video from you
In the 70s, some chevy camaros in California had 90hp, because of the regulations.
Didn’t expect to hear Skyrim music on a car video lmao.
It’s so faint, but any Skyrim player will recognize that music at any frequency 😂
My favorite car to this day is the 78 Celice GT liftback.
Glad someone is keeping them alive, haha. They're pretty awesome, people just need to drive them.
Those are front wheel drive (wrong wheel drive).
@@tmo2798 Idc, rather have that than a civic. And not many affordable rwd Toyotas to pick from here in the states, and I didn’t want an auto Lexus. Plus fwd is much better for driving in the snow

@@Craycrayallday 4x4 is better for driving in the snow. You funny little twit. Civic is WAY better by the way. The last few Celicas were for posers and horny chicks.
7th gen was my first car and I cried after I had to sell her... I'll have to get another one
my celica was my graduation gift in back in 02. its a 2001 celica gt its automatic even though i would have adored a 5 speed. its a great driving car each to work on great on gas an it has more than enough get up an go in an out of traffic merging on interstate im not an aggressive driver
My dude playing skyrim music in the background 🤌. The Celica was my first car many years ago, great car.
As an owner of an a60 Celica Supra, I approve this message 😎
Was in the position to buy a 7th gen Celica but it had over 400.000km on the counter... did came with all the maintainence history but I passed on it. Instead I bought a Mazda 3 sedan 1st gen 2.0lt with have the km's. That 7th gen Celica looked pretty good up close tho...
I like how similar the evolution in design of the celica and the supra is, even after supra became it's own thing
Now the 7th gen Celicas are skyrocketing in Price. Celica GT-S's are getting even more expensive and hard to find, although they weren't as liked as much as the previous generations it's still has that 2zz powa.
Yeah it kinda sucks but it makes sense
Not really out here in Cali 7th gen GTS sells for 4K
@@kerokerobonito3664 Celicas are a dime a dozen over in cali, that isnt the case here in Florida sadly.
Had a Corolla XRS before it got wrecked. One of the funnest cars I’ve ever owned has the Celica GTS drivetrain.
They are getting rare and very slim pickens on the market for a decent one. Hardly ever see on the road anymore. Especially a decent one. Best looking body style of any sports car since in it’s price class.
The suspension is great. Sutaible for Offroad.
If the 7th gen design came out today it would not look out of date. Not many designs pulled that off...
The last part got me crying . I love celica ❤
my 6th gen is an underpowered lil toaster box but I still love it. thank you for making this video!
I was scrolling.
Found this and watched the whole thing.
👍👍
I daily drive a 92 celica gt.
Completely stock.
Aside from the 17 inch rims I acquired from a 2006 scion tc
(Yes they rub😎)
I'll definitely be watching your future content. Do your thing my guy.

@@RedlineVulpine you need a bit more then that, oil pressure also becomes an issue. oh I meant no side air bags not no air airbags
Best looking body style of any sports car under $100K since.
The 1st gen liftback looks beasty
I'm going to own a GT Four some day.
Great video!
You missed the special version of the 7th gen: Celica TRD Sport M. Only 1,500 units were maid.
Really thanks bro for this video.

Quite the legacy. Originally to compete with the Mustang, and then competed against by the Fairlady Z.
My 7th gen Celica GT-S with 2zzGE still sounds, feels, and revs better than my 2022 GR86.
Help to note that Scion brought back the Toyota Celica. The Scion TC. And some variations were offered in AWD but in Japan.
The Celeca GT4 at 09:52 sounds angry as hell, I love it!
