When this was filmed back in 1990....Arnold literally had a PERFECT LIFE. Biggest movie star in the world, super rich, handsome muscular guy, married to a beautiful woman from a very prominent family, in addition to movies was making tons of money in business and real estate, was adored all over the world, had tons and tons of friends, travelled all over the world..... You could go on and on. And the most impressive thing was, he achieved all that ON HIS OWN. He really was the definition of a self made man.
When Terminator 2 came out a year later, that was peak Arnold in terms of critical success and fame. He was perhaps the biggest celebrity on the planet along with Michael Jackson, who's shine was starting to fade from his Thriller peak.
@@CN-wt2bj It was reasonably cool. There was Def Comedy Jam and BET, and no one cared. We honestly seemed to get along better back then. The internet and politicians playing divide and conquer fucked everything up.
It's a pretty awesome movie. My cousin who was like a brother to me, saw it with me at a theater on the campus of LSU for 2 dollars. We had a blast. I would cringe at the bloody violent scenes, and my cousin would talk graphically about the scenes describing it in detail, to rub it in, to watch me squirm. Lol He'd even often say quotes from Lenny like " He man, I got 5 kids to feed!" Total Recall was mostly a mixture of science fiction, lots of action, with a slight small bit of love story and comedy.
Total Recall was my fav film until T2 came out a year later. Now I'd pick Total Recall over T2. T2 was well crafted, but Total Recall is just fun to watch and Arnold just being Arnold. Predator is in the Top 3.
The thing I love about Total Recall is it can go 2 ways. I studied that movie like the dead sea scrolls and my take is he was on vacation the entire time as it was explained in the beginning of the film.
We see the image of his love interest in the movie, in one of his choices for his recall implant, so I think more than likely, the entire thing was apart of the implant, however it's a very narrow margin between it being real also. So it's what anyone wants to believe. It's fun, well thought out, wild movie.
So when he wakes up and goes back to his life and trusting his wife and friends without any kind of mental problems whatsoever I'm sure that would be easy.
11:00 "you all can stand 2 action adventures a year" I wish this were the case. Now the movie theatres and hollywood push the comic book movies ad nauseum.
First time I heard Yvonne's song, was on this interview. Never knew it was in "Saturday Night Fever". I always remember the song, with Arnold and Sly dancing (LOL). Another Arnold connection to SNF. The idea for the script, was based on Arnold's other rival; Lou Ferrigno. Instead of body building, they used disco dancing; for the character's escapism. But, Travolta was based on The Hulk.
Arnold seems to have box office jitters about "Total Recall" here. He knows it's a great film and he's proud of his work. But the film had a huge budget hanging over it. I'm sure Arnold was surprised and relieved when it became a box office smash and #5 biggest film of that year behind heavyweights like Dances With Wolves, Home Alone and Pretty Woman.

I miss the Arsenic Hall show it was the best night talk shows. Vibe was not good at all it didn't make me laugh when I watched it. not everyone liked the remake of Total Recall. Oh the original one has an explanation for the ending when Quade and Melina are outside. There is this fade away effect it means that he got lobotomized in the chair. That is how it ended but not explained in the movie.
Arsenio hall was great In the beginning, but then as the show went on, he focused on only black celebs and complained about whites and obsessed about racism. He showed that he was a racist. Then his show got canceled. 20 years later his show got revived and I was so excited to watch( hoping he changed). But even then he obsessed over “racism” and the evil white man. Then he got canceled again. He didn’t learn from his mistakes. Sad. If he just gave up the whole race thing he’d be # 1 talk show host today
@@johnkeelsmicrocosm885 Agreed. And I think Running Man was way better than Total Recall. The plot of Total Recall was too off-the-wall and hard for me to follow.
I mean Arnold did look considerably taller than him there, the angle is just a bit low. Arnold was quite tall, if you look at his early bodybuilding footage he towers over most everyone and I'm not sure there would be any way they wouldn't accurately have gotten his height many times since they measure those stats at those competitions and the competitors go out barefoot
Have to agree!. initially when Arnie walks in and you see him right next to Arsenio he looks barely an inch taller, but then suddenly Arnie looks much taller than Arsenio before he sits down. That is attributed to Arnie being nearer the camera. I would say 6ft or just fractionally over
