I did 18mths in USA as a nanny ‘89-‘91 & LOVED Arsèneo Hall at midnight from my cool attic room. I couldn’t tell you exactly what it was about him, but he was magical, kind, relatable perfect. He will forever be part of my cherished teen memories in Boston. Thanks for your homage
Wow, I have the polar opposite story. I’m American and was a college student during those years. Arsenio was the only thing I made a point of watching on television- at midnight, like you said. I went to France in early ‘92, for an internship, but also worked as an au pair & lived in an attic room. When I came back to the US in ‘95 Arsenio was gone & I never understood what happened to him. His show had been so immensely popular when I left…
I remember Arsenio and MC Hammer speaking in code about why he was being cancelled. They were talking about Farrakhan without actually mentioning his name.
In 1987 they let arsenio hall co host the Joan rivers show on Fox he was on fire the rest is history he got his own show and the networks got afraid they knew if he continued late night tv would have been his domain and while all this was going on Byron Allen was building an empire quietly
Arsenio Hall came at a time when Johnny Carson's schtick was getting too old and he couldn't connect with the widely growing younger generation that became the audience of Arsenio's show,as Arsenio's show ended too soon before the O.J. Simpson controversy as Arsenio was an anti-O.J. crusader who would have been an important voice that could have changed the outcome of O.J.'s murder trial(had his show still been on the air). And Arsenio returned too late at a time when other talk show hosts(such as Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Kimmel) were dominant as Arsenio was lucky that his return show lasted for one season(with several people saying that Arsenio lost his edginess in choosing attention grabbing guests). And after the end of his MTV talk show after one season,Jon Stewart moved onto other ventures including becoming a championing progressive liberal voice.
Another reason for cancellation that I remember well was the parade of lackluster guests in those later seasons due to Arsenio's connection to Paramount Pictures. If the studio had a movie coming out in theaters, Arsenio would be interviewing some 3rd rate actor from the film that few ever heard of. In a way, the studio used his show as a late night infomercial for their movies.
I watched Arsenio Hall EVERY NIGHT until He was Very Rude and Bullying 17 Year Old VANILLA ICE. Arsenio's Show was Famous for Helping Young People get FAMOUS. But after that I lost RESPECT for Him and STOPPED watching His Show.
I saw that episode. I may need to watch it again, but he acted that way because Vanilla Ice had previously been very disrespectful to Hammer who took him out on tour. I only saw it once but that's what I remember. It's on UA-cam, so I'll check it out
@@waltersimmons946 @YoungoneYoung-lm4xe I was living in Brooklyn at the time. Farakahn had a "moderate" influence but VERY respected FROM a distance - within the Black Community. Intentions seemed good, but too contaversial even by NYC standards. Go figure 😁 The Million March was successful! I however opted to watch it all day on CNN. Not trying to be negative, but I was like...okay what happens after? Well, the vibe out here was DAF, for a few weeks. Once again, its a WRAP"! 😅 Overall his original TV run will always be CLASSIC and Groundbreaking. Props.
Hmm. In 1992 I took an internship in France, straight out of college. Arsenio’s show was huge when I left. When I came back to the US in ‘95 Arsenio was gone, I never knew what happened. I always liked him.
Letterman was only serious a couple of times. The rest of the time he was homey the clown. The still-reining King, Johnny balked at asking hard questions or having controversial guests on. Sajak and Chevy Chase failed miserably as late night hosts. Mike Douglas was afternoon. Affable but made us listen to his horrible singing. He thought of himself as a singer, not talk show host. David Cavett is a fascinating study into standing on a stage. He believed he was a genius. He had the lowest budget mid week cardboard backed show with the greatest guests in history. Mohammed Ali, Henry Kissenger, John and Yoko, the brainiacs of the western world. Yet you had to listen to his asinine opening monolog while he laughed at his own stupid humor with the cheap set falling down around him. And it was literal torture to see that TV Guide says he's got the best guest ever back stage growing moss while he foists jokes on you that prove emphatically that he didn't have any writing staff. It was at simultaneously the cheapest way for a network to burn electrons while it was the ONLY show ever where the biggest icons in America came and spoke honestly and freely.
No. Letterman was Great. Stop. So was Arsenio. 2 things can be true at the same time. Totally fine to love Arsenio. Utter bullllllsht to degrade Letterman to boost Arsenio That was bush league
Narrator needs to learn how to pronounce people's names! "I made a decision to stop working"....always here this when someone's been shown the door. Hey, he had a nice run, then it was done. No biggie. Be happy for what was.
Great talent. That got a raw deal.Due to competitive business decisions. If left on the air.He could of been one of the greats.Again business and politics, played a big role.Sometimes circumstances, make it not meant to be.Very sad.He brung good vibrational energy to the forum.
Whatever the reason it SUCKED! And on top of that others actually stole his phrases! IE..Put your hands together….Give it up for…..So & so is in the ….house & many many more! I miss him!
what a video, You're talking about one of the greatest voices of all time in late night and you're doing so with the worst AI voice imaginable that cant even pronounce the names properly. STOP KEEPING VOICE ACTORS OUT OF WORK! YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!

I am very grateful for your compliments.
I would have never known who MC Hammer was had I not seen him on Arsenio. 😊
The locked you in an attic?

That was a great broadcast thank you for bringing that to us I do miss Arsenio Hall I used to love to watch this late night show God bless you Arsenio
I have Always liked him. He and Eddie Murphy were great together
I met him at a movie premier in 1997 and Arsenio was the nicest, most down to earth, gracious guy.
Arsenio was the first that gave underserved communities a voice!
Yes
Will never forget
"Under served?" Are you in a restaurant?
Wrong. Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin, and Dick Cavett.
I remember Arsenio and MC Hammer speaking in code about why he was being cancelled. They were talking about Farrakhan without actually mentioning his name.
He was an amazing entertainment man. Management didn't really seem to want him anywhere, anymore.
But why ?
I would love to see him out here again. Wonderful entertainer!
Arsenio Hall, the last years when tv was still worth watching. He was great.
I think he is gr8. I’ll always be happy to see him in any show.
Arseeenio and Jay Leeeno.
and luees farrakhan.
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS SAYING!!! That continued MISpronounciation made it so hard 2 watch this!
Yest at 5:51 it actually pronounces it properly...almost.

Didn’t he have his own show before 87? I remember watching A.H before that time
Nobody talks about Byron's late night show that ran for a year or two in syndication.
@@johnsjohnson448 Not trynna be funny, but nobody did. 😂 That show was like what...3AM? 😁
Yep! I remember VERY well. You KNEW somthing GOOD was going to happen with him, after Joan's last show.
Byron's show aired on the weekends. I like it, but he was no "Arsenio."

how many different ways can you pronounce a name? hmm-let's watch this video and see!

The short story. Once he put on Minister Louis Farakahn, his show was a WRAP.
I never said it, but I knew it all along. It was too real for TV.
I remember the criticism was that Arsenio never challenged Farakhan on the controversial things he was saying when he was on that show.

Summary: Too many 📺 hosts not enough 📺 channels.
I loved watching Arsenio over Letterman or Leno because of his personality.
This has to be an AI voiceover because this sounds very robotic

Arsenio "resigned" before he got canned. Nothing wrong with that.
He was unpleasant to Vanilla Ice.
Unfortunately.
Whatever the reason it SUCKED! And on top of that others actually stole his phrases! IE..Put your hands together….Give it up for…..So & so is in the ….house & many many more! I miss him!
His ratings kept sliding down!
He was a man who was cool , and caring in a time when non white people didn't see many who they could easily identify with .
That's bullsheeeeeiiiiit. Bill Cosby appealed to many people. There were many others too.
"Arsenio" ran its course. It is difficult to be trendy over the long haul. It was a great show nonetheless.
One time he even had Jason Voorhees on!
Just pronounce Arsenio and Leno's names correctly
it's robot voice , disqualifies this channel from legitimacy - just cookie cutter info
2:41
Is that Jim Morrison?
I am thinking Mathew McConnoughy or Tom Cruise
The commentator's name pronunciation is horrible.
🤣🤣🤣
Did... did he just say Jay Leeno?
He didn't. AI generated voice did
So David Letterman pushed Arsenio out???
It’s Arr-sin-ni-o
Why does he mispronounce Arsenio’s name… Leno’s too by calling him Leeno (but he did call him Leno twice) so he’s gotta be mispronouncing on purpose…

AI. Not a human being
Doesn't do any deep probing questions with farrakan but drills vanilla ice. He was a closeted racist
I don't even think you believe that bullllllshhhh you posted. Stop
He clearly was never gonna last competing with the big boys.
He clearly had a good run.
