- Surprised to see me? After many months of keeping things under wraps, The Bumper Engine is finally here.
The Bumper Engine is a Unity-based 3D Sonic development kit for users to develop their very own Sonic the Hedgehog levels and environments. Built on top of LakeFeperd's HedgePhysics, This SDK includes many built-in assets for users to easily drag, drop, scale and rotate in order to piece together their own unique level designs, even if you're new to the Unity platform. NO CODING REQUIRED.
With the feedback from our team of beta testers, The Bumper Engine's character controller has been meticulously crafted in order to create the ideal 3D Sonic in terms of acceleration, top speed, jump arc, camera behavior, move-set, sound effects, etc. This means more time level designing and less time worrying about Sonic himself.

ShayMay what's is your opinion? Looks great to me. The boost mode looks like a fun way to play the game. I'd also reccomend the Wii version boost. It feels rewarding.

Glad to have had you here for this wild ride!
I wanted to focus on keeping things simple with this release. The main focus was Sonic and the other 9 Sonic-esque characters, how they control and what they can do. Knuckles and Tails were left out because they are so very different from Sonic.
Sonic's moveset was voted on by a large number of folks from various sources and Boost was left out of the running pretty early on, so a more Adventure-style approach was chosen.

7 likes wow! Anyway I tried the engine and it was fun. I had some problems like the controls a little touchy. I think the drop dash is to weak but then again we can customize. Mostly everything else is good. I’m still positive about this.

I'm kind of tired of the word "better than Forces". Its extremely overused and its getting really boring fast tbh. Sorry if I sound a bit harsh. Though the game itself isn't really as bad as people make it out to be. Its just short and linear with slightly wonky physics and the story is a bit off.

TendoFan I don't mean to be a dick, but Scratch isn't comparable when it comes to the kinds of programming required for high-end game development. It is *substantially* more difficult to work with no visual representation or limitations.
However, Scratch is very good for developing the skills and mindset required *for* making these types of games. Mastering Scratch will make working with a bare-bones engine much easier, even if you can't learn how the engine itself works from it

This basically is the HedgePhysics engine with custom scripts implied. Plus you're already able to scale, rotate and move assets with unity's native tools. This is not to take away from the work he put in

Alola. Im interested in trying out the bumper engine but Im not sure if I have everything needed. What is needed aside from downloading it?
For instance, what is UnityPlayer.dll I keep getting a message about needing it to use the thing. It's kinda confusing when below that is something marked with that very thing.

by the way: the files do not contain a keyboard control info picture, so let me explain what does what.
Mouse: Move camera/menu selector
WASD/Arrow Keys: Move character/menu selector
F Key: Near rings will cause the character to light dash. If not, it returns the camera behind the character.
Space Bar: Character will jump. Press again in the air to perform a Homing Attack
LEFT CTRL: Triggers rolling.
L. Shift when at a standstill: Press and hold to Spindash.

Im trying to create a mod called "The clear bumper engine" adding tails , knucles , the rest of chaotics , omega , gama , more enemies , bosses , elemental shields and custom habilities like charging lighdash (sonic adventure) , boost (modern sonic) teleqiunesis (silver) , chaos control (shadow) , fly (tails , charmy and cream) and more.
I hope to finish it in October 2021

This looks amazing, you have me and my little brother quite psyche of giving this a shot. Once I get and save up for a good gaming computer to give the engine a shot. But not only that but you went and made sure there will be also tutorials for those to learn and experiment on their own, without needing to go and looking up on a forum page or wiki for tutorials. That might be way to complicated for users to understand.
I am really glad you thought about that and took the time, to help those understand how things work. By not writing it out, but having it in the creative process of how it works! Nice touch, can't wait to give this engine a go. Though question? And may have been asked lol, I am guessing you didn't add Knuckles and Tails because of their properties being different from Sonic. AKA, Flying and Gliding?

You know that feeling you had when Sonic Mania was announced, and all those trailers were coming out for it? You know, that feeling of complete and utterly innocent joy, where it felt like nothing could go wrong, all the time? This right here man. This trailer, right here. This gave me that feeling again, and hot damn, am I grateful for it! So to you whom is making this lovely engine right now, I salute you, and would like to thank you once more for such a feeling.
I just started using this engine, and I have to say, it's very intuitive, the only issue's I have with it is the fact that I can't run it on any version of unity later than the latest version of Unity 2017, and thus it's lacking things like IL2CPP, the progressive lightmapper, Database V3 (which changes how prefabs work). When you can, can you at least update it to unity 2019. I know it'll take a while, because 2019 removes basically everything from 2017 and replaces it with a more powerful/optimized version of it (like the scenemanager instead of Application.LoadScene which is thread based and not interrupt based) but I think it's possible (I personally don't have enough knowledge of this engine's inner workings to do it myself because of how certain features are implemented here)

You know 06 had great level design for Sonic's stages. most people don't realize it because of how unplayable the game is made because of physics issues.

The boost is basically raw speed that's handed to you. it's the equivalent of Super Mario's run button, which is the exact same thing sonic is trying not to be. Sonic is suppose to use momentum based physics, where speed is earned. Like in the adventure games, or like in the classics. I dunno, that's just my opinion on it. It's okay if you think differently.
