I lived most of my life in Toronto and still have family there. A company move brought our family to Calgary and we are still here. At first it was difficult leaving TO but after visiting it many times over the years it had changed so much that (not in a good way) that it was no longer home and I could never go back. What you are doing is courageous and admirable and I don't blame you for leaving. I hope that Canada will once again be the wonderful country it was when our family immigrated many years ago.
congrats on being one step closer to your dream Alina!!!🥰🥰🥰😘😘😘😘 keep going!!!🥳🥳🥳🥳 we're all rooting for youuuuuu🥹🥰❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much beauty! :)
Back in 2002 i was a resident there for six months while i was recovering from my broken neck. When life gives you lemons, you make some lemonade. I had an amazing time down there as an 18 year old that was 8 hours away from my northern home town. Was both a learning and healing experience and helped me grow as a individual.
I'm a Montrealer and much prefer it here 🙂. I'm in an Airbnb 10 minutes from downtown (using subway), and it's $1500/month for a 2 bedroom, balcony, washer-dryer which is much cheaper than Toronto. Looking forward to paying $350/month in SE Asia starting next month!
I guess a job would be out of the question?
No one talks about the Maritimes! Her videos about them were unforgettable.
Grew up in Ottawa, moved to Toronto 25 years ago, in 2016 moved to Europe and love it.
Same like you, everytime I fly back to Tor. I feel strange. Thank God having friends there helps a lot.
whicj country?
I have been flying mid-night redeyes flights for years. Save me some sleep time, and gain a day on arrival.
Glad you come up with a plan for the future! Otherwise, always welcome back to YYC!
Hey Alina...just wanted u to know I've appreciated ur videos over the last 4 yrs. I've been a slow traveler since 2021 when I left the states after Europe opened up after covid. I've been bouncing between Switzerland and Türkiye in that time, Zurich, Istanbul and Antalya. While in Switzerland as my base I've been able to visit Milan, Berlin and Paris on a regular basis. Right now I'm in London for two months and like you I'll be going back to the states Oct.1st to apply for a long stay visa for France where I plan to permanently move to Alsace. Takes for ur inspiration over the years and best of luck to you!😊
Aw thank you so much! Wishing you many more incredible travels!
My wife and I live in Etobicoke and we love checking out the city. Toronto definitely has a charm :)
Hoping all is well these days Alina that’s cool you’re getting the opportunity to experience new things. The aesthetic of Billy bishop airport downtown is mesmerizing. Enjoy the month in Toronto Canada 🇨🇦
Looking forward to some Toronto videos Alina! Take care and the best to you!
The conclusion i came up with about travelling is that much more productive to have not outward travelling but inward travelling.
It's a little sad to see young Canadians leaving the country. I also understand that the high cost of living is one of the main reasons for leaving. I like your videos.👍 Best of luck Alina
Things are getting better. Inflation down. Interest rates down. And a lot being done by the federal to help with housing but will take a few years before the effect being felt.
Thank you very much!
@@MikeTruth-rr6zo Blame it on the luxury class. They have been in grab mode. Reminds me of the "me decade" in the USA. When Vietnam ended, many people didn't see what to care about. So they just didn't.
@@CANMONQUE I spoke to a friend and her mortgage went from 2900cdn to 7200cdn per month after hikes , they have a long way to go.
@@Reporterfy l had to renew last year at it’s worst and I am already seeing the relief. And more cut are coming. But looking at the way your friend mortgage increase look like she or he may have taken a variable mortgage when they were historically low. If they had chosen a fix rate she would have not been burn. The federals doing a lot to help housing unfortunately Canadians let provinces off the hock when it’s mostly their responsabilities.
I lived in Toronto back in 2015 for 5 months, had an amazing time ❤❤
I left Canada for Australia and loving it.
Do you mind if I ask about the living conditions especially the job market?
yay zzz
lmao no u are not
Congrats. Switched one concentration camp to the other.
100 %.
My, and probably most people's sense of what anything should cost has been damaged. People are not good to their customers and seem to have no value for them, other that something to take for granted. Alina, our planet tour-guide, adventures on.
"Planet tour guide" Good title. The Lonely Planet with a pretty face added!
$1.5k CAD is actually an AMAZING deal for that place. I paid $1.8k on airbnb for a room without a private washroom....you're better than I am at finding deals.
$3k-$4k is a better airbnb budget for Toronto.
Yeah $3-4K is a much more reasonable monthly budget for your own one bedroom airbnb. I feel very lucky I found this place so last minute!
@@AlinaMcleod Prices are startin to drop due to speculators trying to sell condo's
@@davesaunders7080 Yeh, I wondered at what point "investors" would wake up. Not like a ton of reasonably priced condos are sitting unfilled. This was clearly a "hedged market".
I think there is around 7000 condos on the market right now and a third of them are sitting empty. Just shows how many “investors” thought they could get rich. Hope they lose their shirts on the sale if they ever sell.
@@mikedezo424 I totally knew this was the unmentioned truth! It was such an obvious sham!
Thank you Alina for showing us around. I went to college in Toronto and have lived in the city for 5 years. Its one of my most favourite city in the world (I am biased). Toronto fall & winter are gorgeous.
I left Toronto in 2021 and sadly it has changed a lot after that. Housing affordability and uncontrolled mass immigration have ruined this beautiful city.
I lived in Liberty Village for about 10 years and enjoyed my time there but the traffic was getting out of control. I no longer live in the city and now spend the cold 6 months in South East Asia.
That's fair. I heard about the traffic being insane down there with all the construction.
Don't people find the relentless subway construction PLUS the gridlock on the streets a bit bizarre? I've never seen the like in North America. What is wrong with Ontario? Torn up streets PLUS gridlock! Portland Oregon has gridlock but not the torn up streets.
@@AlinaMcleod Is it any way to contact you?
I love your videos, Alina. Thanks for sharing part of your experiences around the world. I wish you luck in your new journey. Bye
One topic I'd like you to consider for a video while you are roaming the GTA is to introduce the U of Toronto and or Toronto Metropolitan University (especial the media studies part) Humber College now that school is back. It would be interesting to hear from students why they chose to study in Toronto vs others. Canada is a very popular place for international students to study and it would be of interest to many. If the leaves are turning Sunnybrook Park at Leslie/Eglinton or other rustic park. I was amazed at all the natural parks around the downtown area.
❤ your constant … fellow travel enthusiast/ based here in Toronto! really enjoyed your time Curitiba Brazil. Your journey and connect is very easy to watch. 🇨🇦 enjoy Toronto
No Alina you are right, it is absolutely insane...😮
I get it with the stress of having to change plans. It's like everything is good until it's not. As a pilot this happens a lot and it's the nature of the business . Once I am strapped in a ready to go the delays and changes are over and I know how long it will take to get to my destination . Extra points for you - a seat, food , water, bathroom and hopefully the net.
This was such an adorable and organically funny video. Wish I knew you were coming, would’ve loved to host you and show you some new spots, now I am in NYC. Post covid Toronto has seen a lot of churn in restaurants etc so make sure you check all the new hotspots. Have fun Lina and good luck for the Visa!
Welcome back to the 6, Alina. Fall, with the falling and ever-changing colour leaves, is a great time to be in Toronto.
You have got to have sticker shock when you go out for a casual lunch as compared to SEA.
Enjoy your time home before your next adventure. Toronto will always welcome you.
Oh I’ve had plenty of sticker shock all over Canada lol
But we have free health care @@AlinaMcleod
@@AlinaMcleod Seriously Alina. Moncton? Charlottetown? Nova Scotia? The exorbitant costs might be a virus spreading east, but the Maritimes were affordable when you were there.
@@JimMork-r9uI found everything except homegrown BC things cheaper east of Toronto. Didn’t like Toronto for many reasons. Preferred Montreal. I’m not and Air BnB user unless its a last resort. They helped ruin the rental market in BC cities
@@Varonno Vancouver was once such a beautiful city. Bums me what happened. Did not know that about Airbnb.
Since you asked, yes have visited Toronto and loved every minute of it. Would love to live there if only I could afford it. Wishing you the best on the upcoming move. Can't wait to see the country you've settled on, but I know the videos will be amazing from any of the countries you were considering.
I'm excited to see you inching closer to your goal Alina! What a great time of the year to spend a month in Toronto as well. 👌
Thank you! The weather has been incredible so far!
That trip on the subway back home brings back memories 🙂
You walked right by where i work - that very Hudson News store..❤ yes my sis loves that lounge too.
Sounds like she's picked Bulgaria. Otherwise there would be no need to return to Canada to jump through the immigration hoops. I'd imagine Toronto has the only Bulgarian consulate in Canada. I'd guess Varna as the final destination if the airport there had a little more reach, so I suppose Sofia is the final guess.
not Romania?
Either way they are in the Schengen zone now if traveling by air from within Europe no customs to go through, a breeze, I do miss the "extended Balkans" sometimes.
I spent two weeks in Bulgaria. It was to me the only real choice I could see. There are some ski towns that are just marvelous. Bansko. Pamporovo. Like hill stations in the Himalayas. Oh, and the absolutely marvelous village of Koprivshtitsa. Gotta be there to understand the romance!
Yes , Bulgaria is a good choice ? it is a beautiful and peaceful country ?
TO resident, glad you are back, even for a month. Enjoy some of the best weather in late summer that we usually have.
I wouldn’t ever consider leaving Canada to live but I respect your thoughts. It’s an amazing country. I’m in Vancouver. Pricey. Worth it! Best of luck!!🤞
No it isn't worth it.
Yeah it only worth it if you can’t leave Canada. But outside of Canada there are much better options. Vancouver is only enjoyable if you make more than 200k and even then you can’t afford to buy anything.
Hi Alina ! Enjoy your time in Toronto. I was there for a wedding in 2018 & enjoyed seeing one of my favorite bands ( Slowdive ) at Massey Hall a beautiful venue !
That's lovely!
Hi Alina, I am in Toronto currently, born here, lived here most of my life. For the last 10 years I split my year with 6 months here and 6 months in Thailand. I am leaving for Bangkok on October 21. Toronto has changed so much and has gotten so expensive, I've been feeling a little bit on the negative side of recent years about living here. Don't get me wrong about affordability, I live in nice condo in Yorkville but spending half my year in Thailand, I have trouble finding the value proposition of being in Toronto. In any case, welcome back to Toronto.
Been to Toronto a couple times and found it to have more of an international vibe, compared to many other cities around the world.
Yes, It certainly does.
Well over half of the people who live in Toronto today were not even born in Canada.
Yes, it is by far the most international city I've ever been to other than NYC/London/Paris.
@@AlinaMcleod I think one difference is that people who emigrate to Canada to not assimilate as much into Canadian cultures as they in the USA, UK or France.
I am not sure, but I think that they do not find the English Canadian culture very interesting, and even less so the French Canadian one. Most French-speaking people from abroad who move to Montreal realize that the Québécois have a different type of culture which does not attract them. They have nothing against it, they just see it as different. A North American culture which speaks French, not a slice of French Culture in North America.
So eager to see your visa approved and then used at some ONE base in eastern Europe. I watched a bunch of your Kazakhstan videos. So interesting.
Alina, you are wonderful. Have a good permanence in Toronto.
The prettiest and down to earth person I have ever seen, Keep it up. ❤
Aw thanks!
@@AlinaMcleodYou're my favorite Alina. 😊😊😊
YOU ARE SO DESPERATE…I AM SHOCKED!
Alina is cute and well mannered. Stay blessed
@@Resmith18SR No other Alina!
Welcome back 😊 enjoy these final days of summer into the autumn 😅
I had to buy a pair of shorts yesterday because it was so hot lol
Glad to see you again. I prefer BC, Alberta and west. Vancouver is the best.
Toronto is the most diverse city in the world period.
Is that a good thing?
That's nothing to boast about, that is a problem
I'm sure that my comments are immediately deleted by YT
I really enjoyed the video Alina. 🇮🇪💙🇨🇦
Toronto has always been a fun city for us. We have been many times. We have a friend that lives there. Best Wishes that your immigration visa is granted. We always have an affinity
for the places that we enjoyed in our early years. Be Well! Stay Health ! 🥰 from😁 Harriet, Jim and Yuki

Enjoy your visit in Toronto! 😊🙏❤️👋🇨🇦👍💯💫✨🌟
My pleasure, thank you!
Never been to Toronto and never really wanted to visit it. Had a friend in college who visited Toronto often and never brought back any information about it that would make me interested in visiting it. I believe that he knew people there and that was his main interest. Need my afternoon nap & brunch before going to work.
Love, love, love Toronto! Lived there for a year 40 years ago. I'm sure it has changed a lot since I was there last in 2006 but it's such a vibrant city. Can't wait to watch your upcoming Toronto videos and then after that I'll watch your vlogs from Eastern Europe. Good luck with everything! I'm originally from Germany. Love following all your travel videos!
It's absolutely nothing like 2006. Far worse
Thank you so much! Glad you had a great time when you lived here ☺️
Woo welcome back to Toronto. Love Trinity bellwoods park. Maybe will see you there on a weekend. Enjoy
Hi Alina, best of luck with your visa application. I was born, grew up and was educated in Toronto. But I left for a teaching job in BC and then moved to Nova Scotia 45 years ago. Toronto has much to offer --especially for young people but as a retired person, city life is not for me. A couple of days in Halifax are enough for me! Your early years in the city no doubt are special memories and early memories stay with you forever no matter where you live in the future.
Thank you! Yes Toronto is a magical city for younger people (at least when it was more affordable). Glad I got to spend those years here!
Good luck with your VISA, Alina. I'll see you soon in my country.
I've been living in Toronto 45 years and finally left 2 yrs ago & I don't miss it one bit! Anyway I hope your final choice is Bulgaria, 🇧🇬my 2nd favourite Eastern European country , my 1st Greece! 🇬🇷
Toronto really misses & loves you a lot, Alina! It wants to give you a permanent home, I'm sure!!
Try to stay calm while anticipating this big move. It must be torture just waiting! I'm very excited for you.
Yes, moving is very stressful. Even small moves are.
It has been hard but I am trying!
You can start to see the justification for living outside Canada 🇨🇦
Good things ahead !! 👍
I'm so intrigued about the next chapters in her saga. I just have to see how it develops.
Welcome back Alina :)
You look absolutely wonderful!
I grew up in Toronto. I liked to visit the downtown area about once a month before covid. But hadn't been in almost 3 years because of covid. It has changed. I spent a week near the Distillery District last year. One of the first things we noticed was the traffic and construction noise. There was construction everywhere. All of the new skyscrapers/highrises/condos that went up in just a couple of years felt like the city is edging towards dystopia. So many small shops were gone, boarded up. Everything is expensive. The divide between rich and poor was noticeable. The number of homeless people was up. The increase in visible mental health problems was alarming. We left a streetcar because a large unstable man was repeatable getting up from his seat, mumbling to himself, and stabbing the air with his pen. Our visit was not a relaxed one, it felt tense and concerning. On a positive note, our visit to the Art Gallery of Ontario was the highlight of the trip. You can lose yourself in there and forget about the changes outside.
Welcome back to Toronto! The Eglinton Crosstown LRT is still not opened. 😄
Welcome back to Toronto's traffic HELL!!!😀
lol I’ve heard it has gotten really bad
I love your vlogs Alina. Eagerly waiting for your Toronto vlogs... Love from India..
I avoid Toronto at all costs lol Excited to see where you end up!
Just had to write that airports and train stations seem to be very popular on UA-cam videos. Not my favourite but I guess lots of people must love them. But all your videos are great anyway dear Alina. Love from the French forest at present far from an airport or a working railway station
Welcome back to TO Alina!
Great find/deal for a month's stay, enjoy your time here!
I lived in Canada for a year on a working holiday visa, and before I moved I visited so I could weigh up Toronto or Vancouver. I ultimately chose Vancouver, but the times I visited Toronto I thought it was ok as a city but people hyped it up to be on par with NYC and I didn’t quite think the energy was there. I guess it depends on your preferences but I enjoyed Vancouver for more variety of things to do ie. nature being so close, that being said, insanely expensive lol
Te ves hermosisima Alina ❤ honestamente
Just an FYI, Porter flies now to Calgary to the East coast. I was in the same boat for my immigration visa interview for Montreal. I looked at alternatives to Air Canada and WestJet and landed on Porter. Free booze 🥃 in flights too. Great service and only slightly more than Flair
Porter is awesome I agree! Sadly their flights last minute were super expensive but if they were the same I definitely would have chosen them instead.
Hello Alina! Good luck with your VISA. Wish you all the best.🍀💕🪻
Hi. Alina you are expericed woman and amazed travel experienced too. Humbled person and smart too ill followed your video always. Thanks
Lived in Toronto for 3 years. Then moved westbound into the countryside. This was the best decision. Toronto is like multiple villages the got together and lost its identity. Then became too expensive to the middle class.
Loved the trip and the tour. Now I will go over and see what Eva is up to.
I have an aunt and cousins in Toronto, two of whom were born there.
I hope you a nice trip in Toronto 😊
My best advice before moving overseas is spend time where youre going, but not as a tourist. Try doing things like seeing a doctor, getting hair done, renting a flat, etc Some places are grwat to visit, but not to live.
For some reason I missed your decision on which Eastern European country you chose to move to. ❤
Haven't announced it yet :) I will once I actually get approved for the visa.
Alinochka, you are so beautiful. I watch the Russian news, they only talk about some pagers in Israel exploding, shells exploding in Bryansk. Please stay positive so that everyone loves you.😘🥰💖
Well, you made it back for some unusually warm weather and hopefully will be around to see the leaves change colour.
I am SHOCKED how warm it is right now 😅
Big thanks for sharing good information 🎉🎉🎉
I like your sunglasses! Because i also have one! 😂 Its "flat screen" bigger than the face!! Sending regards from Malaysian Borneo of Sabah! ❤
Sad to see you leave Canada, but you're viewers understand. 😢😢 Enjoy Toronto for now.
I will be back to visit!
Welcome back to Canada 🇨🇦 great job always Alina say hi to dad ❤❤❤
Housing prices in Canada are so high mostly because of the govt red tape (including certifications for carbon emissions) so only the big construction firms can comply with. small construction firms are out of the market which caused the supply to decrease.
In Toronto and Vancouver yes it’s expensive but there are other places in Canada where housing is still ok
Thanks Alina for that fine video a a west coaster not to big on Toronto never been there Las Angeles is more of my kind of town anyway have fun get some sleep.
Hoi, Alina, well done and informative work, as usual. Lounge looks good and well worth it once again. Tough times all around us. Not my preference, these red eye services. Think about the staff, they might be also tired. But I´am sure you will do the right decision to go. Will follow you´re way. Greetings, Markus
'Cabin crew seats for landing' , you would make a great air stewardess you look the part 😄
I lived 11 years in Toronto, then moved back to Bulgaria. I am Bulgarian (and also Canadian). And I miss the 6ix.
Hope you get to visit again soon!
@@AlinaMcleod hope so too. I miss lots of things. And they don't sell here cheese curds, nor gravy - no chance I could get a poutine 😟
I have double citizenship too (Bulgarian and Canadian). I used to live in Canada for ten years and came back to Bulgaria. Of course I miss some Canadian things, but I have anothers. ❤
6:38 "The next 8 hours are going to be rough but... WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO" I felt that in my soul 😅
Toronto is on my bucket list. I grew up in Michigan, which is very close to Toronto, but never been there. I think I will try to make it for a three game baseball series the next time the Dodgers are in town! I am afraid to visit in winter after living in the southwest, where there is no real winter, for the last few decades.
You definitely should give it a visit!
Good , Very Nice! 👍
nice recorrido en la ciudad nice gente, temperatura, día soleado, caminata y te miras bonita! comiendo ❤ 😘😘
it’s about the same as truck camping, the size is tiny, I don’t think I would last more than 3 days in something so small ✌️❤️🇬🇧 13:01
I’m glad your red eye flight went well and you are safely in Toronto! Your room, though small, looks very nice. I hope you get more much needed rest!
Thank you very much!
@@AlinaMcleod You’re welcome! 🙂
Thank you for sharing : Like for you : Greetings from Poland
I'm sure a red eye flight on Flair is not anyone's idea of a good time, but it was very WISE of you to book that flight. There was no way to know if the Air Canada strike would be averted, so you had to make a more reliable, even if very inconvenient plan. I often travel on long, complex flights, and I often pass up some tempting "efficient" connections in order to ensure I leave plenty of time to make connections and avoid booking flights on airlines that have to be ticketed separately (and thus have no obligation to fix connection problems). Paying a price in time or money to improve your chances of reaching your destination without disruption is worth some inconvenience.
Yeah totally agree :) If I would have went with Air Canada and they did strike, not only would I miss out on going when I wanted to, but rebooking on another airline would be substantially more expensive.
A good and trū online follower would tell it straight to your face lol. Go to places which scare you, never know, dancing with the devil is sometimes the key to finding success. Perfection is the key culprits to failure because even when we were babies we were scared to walk or go down the road or to that scary house. But did it anyway. From my humbleness to yours Alina, always watch all directions like a cross. Amen. Have a safe travel.
For sure the 6ix is happy to have you back here!
$1800 per month on an Airbnb is an amazing price indeed (unfortunately!). Some basements are being rented out for that same cost.
I saw a plaque of College St.,which made me remind of Chiado Restaurant. Have you ever been there?
Thank you! No haven’t heard of Chiado actually.
