In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
I was lucky enough to recieve perhaps the best advice ever from an old-timer. This before purchasing my first sonar unit. He told me the key to fishfinders is finding places to fish, not actually finding fish. Like you, I got "addicted" to my first unit; and my catch rate nearly flatlined. But I then remembered his advice and decided to follow it. Only then did I begin to get my ROI from my purchase. Catch rate recovered to a level much higher than before sonar.
So that's how I fish. I scout for structure and topology. After identifying enough places, I'll fish those spots in rotation, allowing forage fish to direct me when feasible. Otherwise, I keep the unit off and just focus on enjoying the day.
Good video, I got my live scope at 2019 Christmas. Have been using it for ice fishing, I think it has helped. I believe I will mount my live scope on a remote pole. To me, it's just another tool to use. The cost, well I'd be lying if I said it didn't bother me. I'm 66 years old worked all my life, saved all my life, time to spend some money and have some fun. Thanks again for the video.
Lets enjoy the toys we can afford when we can! Let me know how that external pole works out
Same here. Time to enjoy catching fish. I’m 65
@@OneCastFishing Well, I was just out to South Dakota. Fishing with my livescope my buddy and myself probably caught 400 huge bluegills, crappie, and perch and yes the livescope made it easier. Bass fishing I haven't noticed a big deal helping me but to me, it's still worth it.
Man if u can afford it get it !! Cant take that money with u will not do u a bit if good in that 4 ×6 no what I mean
Man you are a lifesaver, Best honest review I ever seen, we have to learn to balance technology with nature and fun, I was about to buy one but I don’t want to loose The excitement for fishing and become addicted to an cheating screen machine, not for that price lol.
Livescope allows you to understand fish behavior and how they are reacting on that particular day. Its a tool know its limits but understand its strengths. Love my setup but I don't rely on it 100 percent. I mainly fish for bass and now crappie from time to time because of the livescope. Use it when you can but don't get sucked in still throw at that tree or rock pilling. Use it to try and find that submerged grass line and try to pull something out. The other day I was throwing the 10 inch mag draft and what I that was a submerged bush broke free and started following. It didn't commit but let me know what lives there and gave me more confidence in the bait. Use the livescope (tool) appropriately and it's worth every penny. ( my 2 cents )
A fisherman at a local lake was using the Live scope this morning. He invited me on to his boat for a demo, my wife as well. I was surprised how well the image of bait fish, white perch and bass were displayed. He used a Alabama rig and we viewed a nice 3 pounder chasing and taking the bait. Nice! Seen many fish that would follow the bait but would not bite at it. Still, a great fishing tool and my wife is hooked on buying one now. Worth the money, not sure but it is addicting to watch the screen and seeing the fish and your bait. 60 to 70 feet in front of the boat and 25 feet in depth. No problem in seeing good detail.
FINALLY a fishermans video that explains the Garmin tech clearly and simply. I now know what to go in and ask questions about and buy. Thanks man! Coming to you from North Dakota. Just subscribed.
I am in the process of deciding what to do in upgrading my electronics. You have presented the most informative, accurate and helpful video I have ever seen. You are so much more articulate than most youtube posters and your information/advice/conclusions are very easy to follow. Thank you so much for the effort you put into this presentation.
Best Panoptix review I've seen (covers good & bad). I don't rely on my electronics that much but could see myself "screen watching" with this one. Thanks for a straight forward review.
Appreciate it! I just try and give the good with the bad
Great, unbiased, overview of this Garmin system. Starting to decide what electronics I am going to upgrade to after being out of fishing since 2002! Wow, things have changed in the past 18 years! This video is very helpful in helping make that decision. Thank you very much for your detailed descriptions about the positive and negative benefits of Livescope.
Appreciate it and thanks for watching. The technology they have not is amazing, but sometimes it can take over your fishing.
Love your honesty bro ,, I was going to buy the unit till I saw your honest review and that was my main concern is spending 2 much time on the screen and not fishing I swear those new gadgets are like social media they get you addicted and you never wanna stop spending time and money to upgrade
Super objective review. Clear concise, brief and informative.
Great job!
All my research of the current live scope tech leads me to agree with everything this young man stated...great vid !
Appreciate it and thanks for watching. I’ll be trying out the new perspective mode when they come out with the mounts for it and I’ll probably do a video reviewing the new update for livescope
Can’t wait to see your video, l have no clue what the new perspective mode is? And why would you have to change your mounts?
@@voidboy9862 Perspective mode is the new update for livescope. Its built for shallow water and you can see 150 degrees in front of the boat. The transduecer has to be rotated in order to see this view
I own livescope and im raising a grandchild that i take fishing with me. I dont have time to mess around on the water and have nothing happen. I have so few says to go that i want to be productive. Livescope keeps me from wasting my valuable time. It allows me to evaluate the water very quickly and so in real time what the fish are doing. Many of the things you are blaming on livescope are not unique to it but are universal in all fish finders. Casting distance, boating control, spooking fish, fighting wind and angles are not garmin problems. Garmin gives you the down and side imaging to find your spots and you can split screen this and then go to livescope. Most people dont get great hookups at 50 yard casts. Every decent electronics maker is overpriced on their items. Shop sales and take advantage of rebates and it can be affordable unless youre trying to install tv screen sized units. Try this technology its amazing and youre time is worth something. If you dont like it sell it. Youll have 100 people all trying to buy it. The garmin units are networkable and can show different images at the same time. This technology is so amazing that youll want multiple systems on your boat. This system doesnt catch fish it shows you where to and how the fish are responding. This system wasnt designed to do everything, but what it does do, is a game changer. I dont work for garmin. I saw this from a man at the lake who came home with limits of fish when we were skunked. I decided then and there that this had to change and it did with livescope. For those of you that dont want in just keep doing what your doing. It leaves the hot fish for me and my grandchild.
First, I'm a 22 yr Vet, 18 year Army civilian, Thank your service. Second, I have owned a Panoptix LiveScope for three years. I now have software update 12.00 which includes Perspective View and it just blows me away to see just how spooky fish can be in shallow water. On the other hand, Forward scan gives you the depth and distance. Perspective View is much more efficient in my opinion. Unless I change to Down View, I'm guessing the depth of the fish since I have the range between 40' - 70'. With Perspective View. Fishing at night with lights, I see fish gather and patrol around the outside edge of my light line in real time without having to move the transducer around much, by the way I have my transducer mounted on a separate shaft allowing me to spin 360 in real time. It's educational to see large fish swimming through the timber on the other side of the boat of your bait. By the way, a gator swimming thru your coverage area looks like a sea monster. Third, I can agree on every point you made. Absolutely addictive, however, I rather enjoy watching the screen when i'm trolling or regular fishing. Price point is ridiculous at best. Educationally, I do enjoy watching fish and observing behavior patterns. I am a former Humminbird Side Imaging freak, the switch to Garmin I feel was positive though I still use both. Thank you for your time and effort producing this video.
Thanks for watching and thanks for your service too. You made a lot of good points. I will say I caught my Pb largemouth because of livescope after I made this video. I’ve been using perspective for a few weeks now and am going to make a video on it too, but I like having some time on the system before I really decide how I feel. Because the first time i turned on perspective I was disappointed. But the lake I was using it on has lots of submerge grass in shallow water. Those huge clumps block the signal and you can only see so far. So I’ve been using perspective on some other lakes around that don’t have submerged grass and it definitely gives you a whole new view of the water and I was more impressed.
I think your spot on with it being a precision based tool. It isn’t for everyone that is for sure. I love mine. I just got I’ve had it out 2 times now and both times I was able to catch fish that I would not have caught with out it. But there is a time and a place for it.
Thanks for your thoughts on this. I am debating on what to get . This was very informative. I may just go with a fish finder. I don’t want to turn into a full time water gamer😊
I’ve had my livescope for about 6 months now I’ve caught lot of fish using it here’s in north Florida but on the other hand I noticed I spend a lot of valuable time that I would not have. chasing inactive fish, because I can see them were I would have moved on to find active fish.my day on the warter goes by so quick just staring at this thing I look like one of those kids on the couch playing video games an not focusing on my life long experience of knowing how to catch fish, before livescope? My opinion only.
I’ve done the exact same thing of course. It’s way to easy to get addicted. I’ve learned if I’m fishing shallow I leave livescope off. Now when perspective mode comes out that might change
Finally someone that would be straight up (RAW AND HONEST) awesome job, I really want it like everyone else, but the price kills me at this point in life paying $1100 a month for child support 🤣😂 you did a great review and completely honest 🍻🍺👊👊👍
Thanks so much. I try and do the best I can
I'm old school - have good tackle and read the water(and temp/pressure, wind etc). Half the fun for me is discovering new spots in the water that are holding fish. But I totally get it - not catching anything on a blustery day is no fun. So yeah, having trouble getting to the fish, turn that sucker on if you can afford it
danjf1 always start out with water temp, pressure, wind, etc. no electronic device can point you to right Area from the boat ramp if your in new water. But it’s hooked on my trolling motor once I see a area I want to fish. Use it to simple look around. And I will say just because you see them on livescope does not mean they will bite.
Craig Canterbury smart man, fishing in an area your confident in,you’ll catch more fish 👍👍
You are a very effective public speaker. No "ums or ahs". Also, thank you for your service.
Thanks for video. More than that, Thank You for your service to our country. God Bless!
Hi! Nice and onest video. I have a echomap+ 9" and livescope. I live in Sweden(europe) and i often fish in water thats 5-12m deep (about 15-36 feet) for Zander and pearch. Its an excellent tool for deep water fishing. Not so much use for it under 3m and Pike fishing. Perheps that will change with perspective mode. Tried PM for the first time 2 days ago. Didnt get a good picture, but i saw a tip that i'll try: Noice reduction - High and TVG - Off.
Although i do agree with you on most of your comment on live scope . I was with patrick walters one of the days hecwas fishing fork . He used livescope the entire tournament to wim. however he told me he was looking out 100 to 125 feet at times . He actually had to intise the fish to bite they were suspended in timber . He hardlybever took his eyes of it . I myself have bought one . I think there just great
Yes, certain scenarios like that make livescope an excellent tool. During one of my club tournaments, bass were chasing schools of baitfish. Normally, every few minutes they would break the surface. Of course, you don't know where that would be until they do it. I used livescope to follow those bass under the bait and I would toss my ned rig right on top of them to get bites.
You explain things well. Your insight and honesty is commendable.
I appreciate that!
Good video. Agree with all your pro and most of the con points in terms of bass fishing. I really don't even use it for that at all, other than maybe bait setup. But I love to fish for schooling fish, white bass, hybrids, and most of all, Crappie. For that type of fishing, it is a complete game changer. It has increased my hookups by 10x and is great for helping inexperienced fishing persons catch more fish. Gets the little ones interested in fishing too, by helping keep their attention. Saves me a bunch of time at my crappie holes. I can see the fish, try all my tricks, and move on if they son't want to bite. Before LS, I was never quite sure why I wasn't catching. Either they weren't there, have moved out, not the right depth, etc. LS takes all that type guess work away. I would buy again, hands down. But it is expensive. I agree with Lou S. below. I'm retired and the cost was a hard pill to swallow, but now it is my time to fish....... Overall, LS is teaching me knowledge about fishing very quickly that many people develop over a lifetime through trial and error.
Been using my livescope 93sv and really enjoy it. Both open water and ice fishing. Walleye, crappie, catfish, bass, I’ve caught them. I have no cons to say about it. I think it is worth it. Price is fairly competitive with other manufacturers. Honestly I think the real hype is everyone thinking the best and most clear image will help their fishing (mega, uhd, hds). I see no need for 12-16” screens because like you stated, it should just be a tool, not something we constantly should focus on while fishing. The more we are trying to scan and see what’s underwater the less time we are actually fishing.
Thank you for watching. I am glad it has worked out for you. Again its a tool and I do use it. In fact I caught my PB because of livescope a couple of weeks ago. Its a tool and you just need to know how to use it.
Distance isn’t the sales pitch as traditional sonar off your TM your basic over top of the fish before seeing anything. It’s just another tool. Not an all around top set of course but if used for what it’s designed for it can’t be beat. I run Helix 12 G3N at the stern and the Garmin up front. I side image structure out 90’ , see activity, then move in for the attack with livescope. Works great like this for me as a tool with my Helix’s.
Great video though. And Thank You for your service to our country sir.
Best honest review ever posted on youtube. 👍
I appreciate that!
Great vid! Just got my live scope rigged yesterday and first time out with it today. I’m a tournament guy as well. I caught a few good fish on it today that I might not have caught without using it. But.... that being said I was not overly impressed with how hard it is keeping the bait in the narrow cone. I was slinging a A-rig and you still have to be really on the money keeping it in the cone even with a large bait. Another tool in the belt for sure and might get you the few more bites you need for a good bag! It has a learning curve for sure. Can’t wait to slay the crappie with it though! Lol
It takes a little learning. And you’ll keep learning how to use it over the different seasons. But it’s very much one tool you can use
Great information. I was getting ready to pull the trigger but already have networked HDS units, side scan at the console and down scan off my trolling motor. The last thing I need is something changing how I fish.
Thanks for watching! It’s a lot harder if we like the units you already had. I had garmins but after I got the livescope I ended up switching my other units to humminbirds. The networking is just as important as anything else
First really few honest product review I’ve seen. Great job.
I appreciate that! I can only tell what I think.
First of all, from a retired vet to you, thank you for your service! And thanks for doing this review. I have been contemplating upgrading from the humminbird to the Harmon on my trolling motor. I think after your honest review I will keep what I have.
Thanks for your service too and thanks for watching. I run humminbirds on all my other graphs and prefer their imaging to the other brands. I haven't played with humminbird 360 so I don't know what that would be like compared to the livescope
Hummingbird 360 is a game changer for bass fishing
hey man, really good content.
lets bump those subscriber numbers up!
It would be nice! Thanks for watching
great video. I was just at a fishing store talking to a older guy who was tournament fisherman and fishes a lot. He said in some ways he wished he never got a live scope., It not like real fishing took some of the fun/challenge out of it. I will not buy one , don't even use my old fish finder much, Just like old school fishing And thanks for joining the Military, glad to see peoepl like you are in it.
I’ve used LiveScope for one season. I just had chirp sonar and Navionics maps so my search tools were subpar to begin with. For me, it’s allowed me to approach structure I identify on map from 30-50 ft and see if there’s fish there. If I see them I fish there. If not, I move on. This simplistic approach improved my fishing. I also fish on Great Lakes and the ability to see walleye suspending high in water column (especially in cold water) has liberated me from ‘fishing the pack’ and knowing best depth to run trolling spread. A walleye that’s 10 ft below surface doesn’t just sit there and let you drive over them to mark them on your sonar, but with LiveScope you can see them 100 ft away. They’re big enough to see at this distance. There was no way to know an area of open water has a bunch of fish feeding high in water column without just trolling around and hoping to happen upon them. I agree with everything said in the review though. It’s not going to be ‘must have’ tech for the expert fisherman, but for someone like me who was relying on topo maps and 2d sonar, it’s a nice upgrade. I even started crappie fishing because I could scan lay downs and see whether there are fish relating to it. If my livescope was stolen today, I’d buy again.
It definitely has its uses. Totally agree with being able to scan structure ahead of you. In fact that’s what I did last Sunday I’m standing timber. I saw a fish suspended on the livescope and flipped my jig there. That bass ended up being my Pb. I would have never been able to pitch to that fish in 25 feet if I hadn’t had livescope.
Great job. You were very objective, and gave your "opinion" and we all have our own experience and opinion. Nice job.
I appreciate that. Thanks for watching
as you said, it is just another tool, and as such, when used how it should, WHEN it should, it can be very helpful.....The problem really comes down to cost, as, todays bass boat users end up going with multiple units of several kinds, so that you could easily have 10-12 thousand dollars in electronics alone! I remember my first Tracker, the whole boat with everything included, was 11 thousand! lol...so when you start adding this kind of cost to the boat, along with a couple of talon anchors, and the boat is a ranger, or the like, you are now talking a minimum 70 to 80 thousand purchase, and of course, to tow something like that, you need a truck in the 40 to 50 thousand range, so now you have average working Americans ( let's face it, that's what most fishermen are), commandeering a rig that is way over a 100 grand.....a tough nut for the average guy to fit into his budget, ESPECIALLY, if he is married or has children.....for those that can do it, thank the Lord, but for many, it puts quite a strain on one's personal life.
Yeah. Its absolutely crazy the prices for all the additional features to add to a rig. It's nice, but we certainly don't need them to catch fish. Again they are only tools.
You are so right, I’ve got close to 140k invested in bass fishing and what’s more funnier is I throw the fish back in the water lol, I have a pond that I can fish anytime I want, so that’s we’re I get my fish to eat at and I just walk around the bank, on the other hand I send the bank 1300.00 plus insurance of about 100 on the truck and 2600 a year on the boat....
@@MAB1907 crazy city!!! beyond expensive....I can't even think about something like that anymore....I am retired now, so it is out of the question, but even when I was younger and a top earner, I had my three boys to think about and paying for all their college expenses.
I fish in very stained water. Been fishing the lake for many years and catch plenty bass. Over the years the lake has had many changes. Some days I just can’t find fish. It’s those days I think I’d love this technology, however, I’d probably only use it on those days. I’d really like to see structure and fish. Does it show what kind of fish it is and how does it work in stained water? Loved the honesty in the video and thank you for your service
Thanks for the comment. So in really stained water you get a little more interference the the display, but a lot of the lakes I fish around here have no more than a foot of visibility and it works just fine. As for telling what type of fish is on the screen, that just takes some experience using it sine they show up as dots or blobs. Bass tend to show up bigger, but so do chain pickeral. Its hard to tell those two apart on livescope.
Thank you for your service!!
I watched and commented on this video 2 years ago LOL. at the time I wasn't going to go this route, well I've changed my mind. One thing I did find interesting in your video is you saying it's not a search type tool where I was looking at it as exactly a search type tool to see structure and then see fish on structure but from a distance as to not spook them or run over top of them with the traditional graphs. I have to get one of these forward facing systems, I need all the help I can get and if I can see the fish are actually there then that tells me I'm at least I'm throwing to fish and not just chunking and hoping that fish are there.
They just came out with an update for Panoptix livescope called Perspective Mode. It’s similar to Humminbird 360. Definitely another game changer, particularly shallow water fishing.
I saw that. I will be getting the mount so I can use perspective mode and give it a shot
Thank you for your service.....you are a true American hero....it is because of men and women like you I can enjoy my freedom every day. God blesses the USA and all who serve..... thank all of you.
The stuff they want tell us. I now see how it can handicap you. Thanks bruh!
Thanks for watching!
I bought mine specifically for crappie fishing. In my opinion this is where livescope shines the brightest. It also shines with bream, redfish, speckled trout and I've had very good luck catfishing with it.
I think it is more tailor made for live bait fishing to be honest with the exception of crappie jigs.
My honest opinion about livescope?
If it fits your style of fishing and it fits in your toolbox?....... there ya go.
I personally won't go without it going forward. I've had it a year now and I'm loving it, me personally.
It definitely has its uses. Lure wise, I think it shines best when using a jerkbait
Livescope is a wonderful tool for still water fly fishing. It lets me see the depth active fish are feeding at. It used to take me time to figure out where fish are feeding at that day. Once I find and catch fish I don't look at the screen till the bite drops off. And yes the price is absolutely rediculous
Now that the fish have moved off shore I am finding it very useful if I want to finesse fish into a brush pile. I can watch the fish react then.
It depends on what you use it for as to its value. its Invaluable for crappie fishing, when you can see them and hold a bait right in front of them. I dont bass fish, but I can see where it wouldnt be as valuable for that. It's great for seeing brush, points and fish. It's simply a tool and we must remember it's not going to catch the fish for us, just that we are fishing in the right spots and sometimes can let us know what a fish thinks of our presentation.
Very true!
Nice video! Waiting on a garmin ultra 102 and livescope coming tomorrow! I crappie fish and it is almost a necessity today. I’ll try and take your advice and still play my game. Thanks from southern Illinois.
It will be a blast for use! It is fun technology
Great honest video. Helped me. Thanks and thanks for your service.
Thanks for your service! I think you are experiencing something many Livescope users have noticed. Like all instrumentation it's a data gathering tool. These new tools are about observing behavior and allow us to understand fishing on a new level. It may feel a little uncomfortable...we typically just roll up on sonar-found fish and dangle whatever we think gives us the best chance. Do the bass see it, do they react to it or are they ignoring it? Watch some videos using a GoFish camera tied to a line. Multiple fish will put a bait in its mouth and quickly spit it out before anything commits. Previous to these Live sonars we would never know this was happening. We had a yes-no...now we have a yes it sees it but won't bite unless you twitch it just so :) Notably, a local guide told me he has learned more about fish behavior in the past 3 months with Livescope than in the previous 30 years fishing. That's quite a statement and may mean that, like many things, Livescope (like luck) favors the prepared mind.
As I have used it more, there a lot of times fish will just come look at your lure and swim away. I've used it to great effect jerk bait fishing. The bass will follow my lure, and I could adjust the pauses between twitching to rod in order to entice a strike. I am honestly convinced more just ignore our lures.
Good video. New Subscriber. I use it on my channel almost every time I fish. Now with that said, I mainly crappie fish but there are times that I just do not use it. It simply helps me to find the fish and learn what the fish are doing which is not always what we were taught as kids. Agree with you on the learning what your bait is doing as well. On the negs I agree with that view distance. Again, I am crappie fishing and I use it to scan for the next stumps or brush, but when I get close I zoom in which makes the picture better. Additionally to one of your points about seeing it and getting one cast, that can be changed by taking the transducer off the trolling motor and mounting it on the side (mounts are made to go on the ultrex) or making a separate bar like I have. I use spot lock a lot and it matters not where my trolling motor is facing as I have my transducer on that stump or brush pile. One more thing on your cost point. Please understand that I am not saying you are wrong by any means more showing another way to look at it. With that said I have 2 Humminbird Helix 12 units networked. At $2500 each, plus network cabling etc I spent 5K plus on the two units. I bought the Garmin 1022 and the Livescope for the same price as I did one Helix, so it is I guess how you look at it. Because the transducer is sold separately then you have to purchase a unit, unlike buying a Helix 12 where you get the transducer at the same price it seems to look more expensive than it is in reality. I agree that it is not cheap. I had mine for two weeks and felt like I wasted my money, but once I spent time with it and learned it that changed. As I said, I would not give it up for anything out there now. Again, good video and good points. By the way, thank you for your service. What branch are you in? Retired Army here!
Thanks for the comment and subscription. I am Army as well! Good to see another fellow veteran who loves to fish. To your point on the other mounts you can use for the transducer. I have looked into it, but ultimately thought that if you wanted to scan you would either have to turn the entire boat or use your hands if it is mounted on another pole. But, I am hearing a lot of folks who swear by it, so I may look into one just to try it out.
@@OneCastFishing Good to have another Army bro on here. I was with 82nd 2/504 in Afghan. On the transducer mount, take a look at my video on how to make a transducer pole for about $70.00. It works off a RAM mount and I put the ball on the side base of the Ultrex. Might be a good way to play with it first to see if you like it and move up after. I personally want to keep that fish in view, but again, I am fishing crappie, so when I have them in a good position they are 6-10 feet away. I will put a link to that video on here for ya. Take care and thanks again for your service. ua-cam.com/video/VcFCQieM_PM/v-deo.html
@@AsleepAtTheReelI checked out the video. Pretty nifty how you came up with the mount. BTW once upon a time I was in the Devil Brigade.
Agree that you have to use this tool for certain scenario vs. 100% relying on it like video game fishing. I fish a lot of structures/pilings and it's nice to know IF the fish are hanging around there and how deep, but I will not be watching the fish go after my bait. I plan to use to help me specifically locate fish for a specific area.
Simplicity of explanation is king. I hate video games, but might consider one in the future...IF prices come down considerably. Otherwise, I do not see the value.
Great video, was actually looking at upgrading my Electronics and now I can cross this one off. Keep up the great information and see you around Shearon Harris one day.
Thanks for watching! I am sure I will see you out there.
Dang you guys need to help me out on Harris. I'm new to bigger lakes and its whipping me.
Great video, provided the Info I was looking for. I'm looking to set up my new boat, upgrading the standard electronics tracker throws on, etc. I primarily like to bass fish, and it appears unless there is some depth or you're own fishing this might not be the best route. Thanks for your service also.
*pan fishing
Glad I could help your decision. I am also working on a review for the perspective mode with the new mount but first impressions aren't great!
I have never used the panoptics due to its high price. However after playing with the units in stores and watching videos of people using it, I can see your points. Would essentially take the skill out of fishing and would only be useful in certain situations.
It’s just a tool. It’s not going to make an average angler a pro, but in the right conditions might help you get an extra fish
Thanks for that honest review, I appreciate it. You mentioned networking more than one fishfinder and it being more effective (?). I'm really interested in understanding how to go about doing that. Can you please post a detailed video explaining exactly how to do that, setup, use, etc? Or if it's already done can you please point me to a link or something? Thanks again for your time! 👍🏻🙏🏻
Thanks for the comment. I should do a video in the future about networking, but there are plenty of other ones out there in the meantime. Just look up sonar network. Humminbird has some good videos about networking theirs.
I think it's a great tool for fishing. I do use it to search. But I do understand what you mean about using tradition.
Thank you! I've been considering it but the price is high. Now I know an honest opinion and can decide instead of buying then finding out what doesn't work.
Glad I could help!
Thanks for watching.
Troy I think like you I just spent 3400 on 2 power poles my ole lady isn't happy with my interest in this new toy I am hearing the raving about..lol still doing my research!!
I think it is worth it especially if you are a Crappie fisherman, Or fishing suspended fish,But you certainly nailed it.It isn't a search tool but it is certainly a good tool once you find fish.Good video agree with everything you just put out!!
Really informative video. Thanks for your service as well. 🇺🇸
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Great, honest video. I appreciate everything you said because I have had the exact same experience with my setup (which coincidentally is the same - Ultra 126sv). I can say with complete certainty that after using it twice per day for the last 3 weeks Livescope has caused me to catch far fewer fish than I normally would. It requires a great deal of skill, in any sort of wind, to try and get everything lined up - boat, fish, lure - and then when you get everything right you get to watch your lure swim by the uninterested fish. It is crazy addictive, but also highly frustrating because you get to see all of the fish (well, blips you think are fish) that you are not catching. I am hoping to figure out how to best incorporate LS into my fishing trips, but I know if I want to actually catch fish I am going to have to stop staring at that screen all day. But I have this feeling that eventually it is going to make me a better fisherman, certainly a better open water fisherman.
Instinct. Not always the tool for the job. A lot of the guys I fish with that excel where its useful nearly zero at weigh in on waters it isn't in play. I have this and 360. Use them all the time. But still have times I even take the 360 off an fish sloppy stuff or whatever and end up doing better. It's about utility of your tools not the only way to get it done. Great vid
Thanks for the honest and great review!. Many people with have a thicker wallet because of this.
I appreciate that! I can only give what I think
I have install panoptics on my boat with the main purpose that it makes avoiding rocks much easier. I fish on the Atlantic’s french coastal, however I know the area where I fish, with the tide rocks might be closer than you thought. I have to say also that I have never seen the sea bass I caught on the Garmin unit before 😂 but for sure it is expensive. I fixed mine on the bow towards the stern.
For those with expendable cash, why not have this? It's cool. For those who are on a budget, just go fishing and don't worry about all the stuff you don't have. Be thankful for what you do. Also, any of us that have used ordinary fish finders or, in my case, a cheap downscan Lowrance, we have set up on schools and had magical days, even on a budget. Maybe the feeling of accomplishment is greater when you get that limit without ever looking at these devices in the first place. In the end, live within your means and enjoy life--go fishing!
Couldn't agree more! But even those with expendable cash have to decide between Humminbird 360, Livescope, and Livesight.
Fished all last summer/fall with Panoptix trolling for salmon in Southern Oregon (charter captain).
1) It's highly addicting, and it's hard to take your eyes off of it when you're in the fish.
2) There's nothing like seeing a salmon following your bait, or investigating your flasher, and then taking the bait. Watching the whole series play out in real time is unbelievable.
3) There is a learning curve, but once you learn what you're looking at and are able to decipher some things, you can learn how the fish are responding to your bait - like, interest, or maybe they're paying attention to the flasher, but not the bait, or maybe they're just running away from anything flashy (stay away from those fish - they WILL waste your time).
4) You can rely on it too much because it will take all your attention.
5) It has helped me catch some fish that I wouldn't have caught otherwise - both by speeding up, and by almost coming to stop and dropping it right on one settled on the bottom. But it can be frustrating as all hell to actually know just how many fish come look at your bait and don't bite. And then two boats behind you hooks up....go figure.
6) A lot of sonars show fish in the historical sense. Panoptix shows the fish and you know if they're the fish you're targeting (especially for salmon). You know if you're in fish that active and looking. You know if you're in fish that want nothing to do with you (it's still frustrating, either way).
7) You never stop learning with this thing. Whether it's how a particular lure works, or what depth your leader is actually running as speed changes, and how that presentation changes (which has been fascinating).
8) I wish I could afford 2 of them. And I wish I had a unit that I could actually use to stream to ActiveCaptain (the Echomap plus units do NOT stream to ActiveCaptain as far as video feed, I don't know why - it actually kind of pisses me off). I may go around it this year by mounting a gopro in front of the screen as I really want my clients to be able to see what I'm seeing so they can stop asking me if we're seeing fish because we're ALWAYS SEEING FISH DAMMIT. Sorry.
Good opinion, but I love it Works on fresh and salt water, and I don’t use it on a trolling motor., remember it’s like owning an airplane or a sports car, if you can’t afford it, don’t buy it, be better cheaper, but it is what it is. I use all of them together. I would ask what your boat cost, why didn’t you just use a small cheap boat and motor. Their technology is above everyone else and they have the new updated and new view, perspective. Anyway, very good talk, I just think the positives way out way the negatives...
First, thanks for watching. I appreciate it. There are a lot of positives to livescope. Since I made this video I caught my new PB and that was because of livescope. I would never have seen her or pitched my jig to her. She was suspended in timber in 25 feet of water.
It’s a great tool to learn presentations and fish reactions. Once you learn you can reduce its use
If i had the money i would get it. I love tech fishing and playing with gadgets. That said with side imaging and real time sonar I get pretty close to livescope performance. Of course I don’t see movement in side imaging but I’ve gotten pretty good at reading returns and with the help of my trolling motor I can dissect cover pretty darn surgically.
I’m looking into getting livescope in a couple weeks potentially, I already Garmin graph that is livescope ready. My question to you is if you were to do it over would you make the purchase again or spend the money elsewhere?
Thanks!
I'm wondering if it would be more useful in saltwater applications, particularly inshore or nearshore fishing where the depths can range from 15'-100'.
I’m not sure. There are some salt reviews from guys down in Australia I think.
Thanks for your service and may
god bless you.
Thank you very much
A very honest, informative and helpful review. Thank you!
Great video! You've helped me decide that livescope isnt worth buying. You couldn't have been more correct when you mentioned that it has the potential to be relied on too often, and that it causes us to not rely on our senses the way we should. I've caught many fish in my lifetime this way. Sure, there's a lot you don't see, and a lot of fish that are missed, but a good angler recognizes things livescope won't detect and display. Thank you.
heard so much. I am a crappie(sac-A-lait) fisherman only. I have been studying this product. I see the ecomap73cv7" with transducer for $2149 I am trying to get Garmin to let me know if I have the full set up with the bottom `1500 dollar live scople! Can someone tell me if this would be good in south Louisiana 6-8' muddy water most of the time fishing.? Will I see the fish and the stumps in time for a flipping of a hair jig..?
Great video! I'm looking at getting a used ps22 for ice fishing and open water from a kayak targeting panfish and some river floyage walleye due to budget. Anyone have experience with it? Is it worth it or should I save my money?
I notice on your trolling motor you have two transducers. I thought the one transducer for livescope was all that was needed. Is the transducer under trolling motor the UHD54?
Also to use Livescope efficiently dont the trolling motor have to be pointed in that direction? The cone area is what 20-30 degrees?
Is that is the UHD transducer under the trolling motor. It comes with the echomap ultra so I put it on. To be honest I rarely use it but I have that capability if I want. You are correct that the trolling motor has to be pointed in the direction and the cone is 20 degrees. Some people like to mount the livescope on an external pole but I prefer to be hands free so I can keep casting while I control the tm and livescope view.
Thanks for the video. Been interested but I’ll wait for the price to go down in time before I add it to my tool box.
A lot of great information thank you
Nice video, I will steer clear, I do like my 93 echo maps plus, very easy to up load software, the active captain makes it easy to pre fish, from my chair. But thank you for your insight.
Eric are you pre fishing with active captain for bass or crappie?
@@lancedevaul1261 I pre fish for walleye
what he saying is from his point of view. I’ve been using livescope in salt and freshwater for 6 months now. Yes everything has its limits even livescope. But it’s a tool that when used with side scan, down image and echo sounder it does nothing but enhance your chance. Using it as a tool to stay on the fish when you find them is what it’s intended to do when your in forward view. Now perspective mode is more of a search mode Now not sure about his set up but on mine I can view out to 150 feet forward. So I can move in a area and start fishing and scan with livescope and nail them never had a issue like what he is talking about As far as price. A complete Garmin set up with livescope is still way cheaper then any hummingbird with 360 any day of the week. It’s a forward looking tool all it is
Thanks for the comment. I enjoy hearing other points of view. I have refined how I used it and its been very useful as the fish moved offshore.
Agreed, great tool. To much money in my opinion. And the black box big and heavy and takes extra space.
After new update to perspective the angle have changed looks promising. But the price for the mount 99$ Ridiculous!
I have spend 4500 British pounds to buy 12" screen and first lvs12 and then lvs32 .. Garmin don't know anything about currency exchange 😂😜..
Thanks for honest review👍👍👍👍
wow. They don't change the price to account for that? Thats crazy. I will see how perspective is when the mount finally comes out.
Thank you for your service to our great country. And thank you for the raw truth, you just helped me make my mind up. Going to get a 93sv and wait on price to drop on live scope. Lol
I will say the 93sv is a great unit and especially for the price! I used to run one.
Great thank you, this will be my first nice unit, been foshing alot of rodeos and such on home lakes and its darn near impossible to beat a guy with good electronics and he knows how to use them. So its time for me narrow down my water and only fish high percentage area's instead of me just fishing places that look good. Lol. But I wanted to realy lern how to fish without electronics and then step into them and see how it changes the game. From what iv seen so far amd after watching your videos it will be a game changer for sure. Thanks again for the info.
$200 rebate rn on livescope
Thank you for your service!
I purchased the live scope when it first came available, and I agree it is great for maybe perch or crappie, but I have been disappointed with it and find it works better for ice fishing than boat fishing. I have questioned my investment and feel you don’t get enough juice for the squeeze.
I can understand that. I will say though, my PB came because I saw her with livescope suspended in 25 feet of water. That was after I made the video
Have you had a chance to use the perspective mode since you made this video? And if so, did it change your perception of livescope? Thanks
I’ve used perspective a bit and initially want impressed. With that said, by the time it arrived the fish started moving offshore. So will be testing it out more this fall
Very good, honest review. Great job! Are you going to get the mount for Perspective View? If so, you should do a video on that. I have the mount on pre-order.
Thanks for watching! I do plan on getting the mount and doing a video for it. How did you pre-order yours. When I go on the Garmin site I can't see the option to pre-order.
Thanks for the honesty. I love my humminbird, and saw one guy who was using the himminbird to find the fish and the structure then using the livescope like you say. I 'll stay with the humminbird. Wouldn't mind an upgrade with my humminbird. But love what it does.
Very genuine review.
Thank you!
Thanks for this video. I am thinking about getting this. I currently have a Helix 7 at the bow and my transducer is MDI which is on the bottom of my trolling motor, pretty straight fwd. Once I drop $1,500 on the LiveScope, will that enter fear w/the MDI transducer? Would the LiveScope on a separate bracket or use my MK Terrova? TIA
I would have to check the frequency livescope runs at because if it’s close to MDI it could. But to be honest there’s no need to run your other transducer. Live scope let’s you see below and slightly behind even in forward view. I have a helix 7 upfront and I only use it not mapping. I also prefer my livescope on the trolling motor. I can scan around easier while still fishing
@@OneCastFishing so you only use your Helix 7 for mapping? Do you disconnect the transducer from the trolling motor to your Helix 7 then?
I never even hooked up the transducer to the helix 7. I just networked it to my graphs at the helm
Best LiveScope Video I've viewed. Great job. Are you sponsored? I'm about to buy one.
I am not sponsored at all. I appreciate you watching the video.
@@OneCastFishing hey great video. I wanted to see it in action on a boat. but no one in my area can afford it. and we have plenty of fisherman down here .I would spend 21-2500 on a full set up but cant seem to get a full answer on this rig.. can you send me a private message ?
Thank you for the video
Knowing what you do now would you buy it again
I am looking at upgrading my electronics
I am about to get frustrated because I don't want to spend over $2000 just to be disappointed
Interesting video and appreciate your review. I guess I may understand your negatives in a a week when mine arrives. However, I can’t see how “only” seeing fish 60-70ft ahead of the boat can be viewed as a negative. It is a hell of an improvement over seeing that you ‘had’ been on top of them. Given the cone angle on a 2D or ‘traditional’ scan technology you are:-
•55-65ft better off at least.
•95% better off knowing where they are. For example that they are within 20° in a certain direction. With traditional you are not sure it they are off to one side or possibly swimming from behind the boat into the cone. I have watched plenty of livescope videos where fish come from the back of the scan swimming away from the transducer direction.
• Mounted on a purpose built pole I see it being a great search tool from the front of the boat. I’ve tried using side scan from the trolling motor with very limited success.
YOu seem to be more technical them most fisherman. I am not a bass fisherman and will never use this for bass. Most the fishing I do is with trout, walleye or panfish which I catch within 25 feet of my boat. I love the honest opinion and have to admit it's not for everyone but in my case I think I like it.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I do love playing with new technology when it comes to fishing. Its certainly only a tool. I will say, the livescope works way better for crappie, white perch, pan fish. Then its almost video came fishing
@@OneCastFishing I’m going to use it heavily for ice fishing. Any thoughts?
@@MountainStateAngler I think it will work just fine. I haven't ice fished, but if you mount it to a pole that you can turn you should be able to scan around and see where the fish are. Too bad it can't tell you where they are without drilling a hole in the ice.
@@OneCastFishing yea the Humminbird Helix series will let you just put the ducer on top of the ice
Excellent presentation very professional.
It is now with perspective
Have you used perspective yet? I am waiting until the mount is available. After I play with it for a while, Ill do another video so I can include perspective in the analysis
Thanks for your service and time to make the video. I thought it is very upfront and informative. Having used it yourself, Do you wish you could sell it and get your money back? Or would you keep it?
Appreciate that! Well, I am not going to sell it. Its still a fun tool and can be useful at the right times. But I think having units on your console and bow that are networked are much more important than livescope itself
I got mine in early Winter set it up for Croppie fishing and cat fishing. I was so mesmerized the first two times I took it out I Didn’t even fish LOL. If you can afford it get it I think I got $2100 in mine made it portable so I can move it around the boat. Watch some guys Crappy fishing on UA-cam set it up portabl On PVC with Ram Mounts One of the front one in the back for cat fishing set up with double lithium ion batteries In a toolbox Coolest thing since the outboard motor good luck everyone have fun thanks for the video and your service brother
I love it for crappie or white perch. Theres a time and place for it
I have it and it’s a pain in the ass to set up and dial in. I think for fishing deep winter or summer, maybe crappie or tracking schools of strippers in open water. Also it’s annoying I. The W9 d being mounted to the trolling motor. I wish I’d have gone with bigger hummingbirds or lowrance honestly. I’m going to get a different transducer mount and try working it independently.
Great video and thank you for the great explanation. I think it is not worth it. It is a pain trying to fish and watch a screen. If I see the fish with side view or down view, then I can usually catch them.
Ya can play with the colors a bit and get the resolution up where it’s easier to see em. Lovin mine 👍
You have to be disciplined to fish the way you have caught them at certain times. But great for winter or suspending fish. Plus i like to crappie fish in which livescope is great.
