      Thank you so much for the vote of confidence, George D. I'm very critical of my past work, and constantly think about how I could have done it better, so I appreciate when people let me know there is room for improvement. In this case, my teaching style has evolved quite a bit since then, and I feel I could have emphasized some key principles more, and maybe not put as much emphasis on some of the minor details and variations. For an example of a more recent tuorial, focusing on Takedown Defense, please check out this one: ua-cam.com/video/480kEH_r51g/v-deo.html Hope this helps, and thanks for watching and commenting! I've been watching tutorial after tutorial about learning the double leg and haven't been able to do it properly. It never felt right until I found your video. One of the biggest things that I was doing incorrectly was not dropping down for a level change so my knee dropped and drove into the ground limiting my driving power. As soon as I saw your video, I was immediately able to drive forward instead of down and can now continue training and drilling my double leg. Thank you for such an amazingly, detailed tutorial!

    Great basic techniques!! Master these and you'll be tough on your takedowns. I like to add on the double legs instead of grabbing behind the knees. Cup the calves so it is harder to sprawl out. We just did double legs in BJJ class and I was showing the guys how much more control you get to cover the calves not just the knee.
    One other technique which I love but not sure if I show in a basic class is just pulling up on the elbows on a double leg. This lets you keep your feet and not having the chance of the guy slipping your sprawl or faking you into a sprawl that lets them get in front head control.
    Great stuff. Really makes me want to get back into coaching.

    Great video! I'm subscribing to see more grappling techniques. I was confused for a while when he tried it with a "bigger and stronger" opponent. Had to rewind a little ;)

    I love how martial arts is getting to a point where practitioners are blending the MMA and the TMA into the final form of martial arts - The CMA, what I call "Complete Martial Arts". Basically like 90% MMA with some 10% of the actual effective TMA stuff that you can't reasonably allow fighters to use in the cage for the sport but which do in fact work in life threatening self defense fights when you need to use them.

    you really out did yourself in this video. Real in depth information. You should sell your videos. At first I didn't click on it because your wearing karate black pants and we have too many wannabe MMA people giving out advise online and the best way to figure they are fakes is by the karate/sweat pants. But you should change your clothing to mma style clothing instead of the karate movie black pants for more views. Its all about first impression and visual display.

      Sorry for the delay, your comment was flagged as spam... Thanks for the suggestion though, you aren't the first one to mention this. We have since switched to Gi-style pants with rashguard (check our most recent videos). I know it will take a while for this to catch on, since we created something new, a belt system for MMA. But I believe this will get us more traction long-term. I might reconsider if necessary... Please let me know what you think of the new uniforms! - Patrick

    so hard to do but it's very useful

    For the defense, I would drop levels and hit with an elbow and then the knee. Step forward with the elbow (if possible) to stop the momentum, then knee and hammer down with strikes. I’ve used the elbow myself so it works.

      Striking counters to takedowns can work, but they are generally low-percentage and require near-perfect timing. It’s generally best to defend the takedown first, gain some form of control, and then counter, either with a wrestling, grappling, or striking-based attack. More content coming on this topic. Hope this helps!

    Really like techniques that you are full control like no knee or hands touch the ground before your opponent hit or fall to the ground...

    Hey coach please do a blast double leg takedown. Your breakdowns are awesome.
    If it's not too many questions, please also let know your take on facesaver headgear. I'd like to begin sparring but I worry about my nose breaking and getting rattled. Is it good I put on headgear and learn to fight 1st before I go without headgear

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment, Seetsa. Will definitely address the Blast Double in our upcoming Wrestling videos. Got some grest ideas I’m working on for principle-based learning... Meantime, check out this short and sweet video by Flow Athletics: ua-cam.com/video/X2GU0CEc3Tg/v-deo.html
      As for sparring headgear, I personnally don’t use any, nor do I recommend it to students. It only protects you from superficial lesions, but not from more damaging brain trauma. Please start sparring very light, and make sure your partners are able to control the power of their strikes. For how to do so, check out this video:
      How to Spar Safely
