Cujo has an internal monologue in the book & it’s absolutely devastating. He wanted to be a good boy. He didn’t understand why he was being “a bad dog”. 💔
At the end of the book referring to Cujo “It would perhaps not be amiss to point out that he had always tried to be a good dog. He had tried to do all the things his MAN and his WOMAN, and most of all his BOY, had asked or expected of him. He would have died for them, if that had been required. He had never wanted to kill anybody. He had been struck by something, possibly destiny, or fate, or only a degenerative nerve disease called rabies. Free will was not a factor.” and "I'm telling you so you know, I'm telling you so you know, Cujo has gone where good dogs go." I felt as sorry for Cujo as his victims. :(
My favorite dog acting is the "Thing Dog" in The Thing. As soon as you see that dog alone you're like "That is not a fuckin dog" it just seems so wrong, just like the way it moves and stuff seems so un-doglike.
His name was Jed. Jed was a half wolf half Canadian Malamute. He also acted in White Fang and The Journey of Natty Gann. Before all this he was adopted from a humane society in Washington. He had a good life, living at his trainer Clint Rowe’s animal sanctuary til his death at the ripe old age of 18 in 1995. The goodest boy
Sam's death gets me because her owner (I remember her name more than his LOL) had so many easier ways to put her down but he wanted to hold her until the very end. Even when it put his life in danger, he just wanted to hold his dog and only companion until she passed away. It was an upsetting death, but every moment before it was just this warm embrace, petting her and making her feel safe and loved until she was no longer herself. And as someone who got to hold my dog as he passed away, thinking about it makes me actually cry every time.
Isle of Dogs is also a movie that I think needs a mention. (Btw it took me way too long to see that the point of thr title partially was that it sounds like "I love dogs" when you read it, I love it.) While much more over the top than UP in portraying dogs, I always enjoy movies that make good attempts at making dog characters act like actual dogs, something that you mentioned yourself. In there the dogs can't really be just that as the main characters but I think it resonates a lot with people who just owned or own a dog and had genuine connection with the animal, it captures spirit of dogs really well. I am also quite suprised that Hachiko didn't appear on the list, cause I am used to seeing this movie always mentioned in any dog related media. But I guess people remember this movie more for the story around the dog, rather than the actual character of Hachiko for the most part. I don't remember if the dog himself was a "well done character" in the movie adaptation because it's been a while since I've seen it, there is I feel, not a lot of media that covers real events related to dogs, so it made him quite memorable to me and having that knowledge watching it made it so powerfull for me at the time. Loyalty of animals is always something that just melts my heart in an instant, this unquestionable love and affection or connection. Animals don't doubt when they are this close with their owner and there is so much beauty and some inner melancholy and sadness about it. It makes heart happy that this affection will be given back by many owners, but so many dogs are also betrayed by it and people around them.
Frank the pug in MIB is one of my faves. Also I know it's not a film and I know he's not technically a dog... But Dino in the flintstones is my favorite 'dog' haha, he's just so sweet and reminds me of my black lab cece soooo much
Also it's always interesting when the pet the dog trope is subverted. There's this Indian movie called Article 15 which shows a corrupt cop character who is very loving towards street dogs and treats them well, but then turns around to treat human people who he sees as less than him with vitriolic hate and violence. To drive in the idea that he sees these people as even less than animals.
My favorite trivia about I Am Legend is that it’s technically the second attempt at adapting Richard Matheson’s book. The first is Omega Man starring Charlton Heston. Which is also one of the first major Hollywood movies with an on-screen interracial kiss!
Omega Man is such an interesting film. Tbh I think it’s one of the few examples of a movie that wouldn’t be improved by the addition of a dog because it’d kind of neuter how effectively the first section conveys Neville’s isolation (which is my favorite part of the movie). A socially isolated man talking to a bronze bust just hits harder than a socially isolated man talking to his dog.
A recent favorite of mine is Samson from The Black Phone. He's never shown attacking anyone, though it's implied that he would if commanded to do so. He's simultaneously frightening and beautiful, with his massive size, solid black fur and yellow irises, like a panther. Also, the hero manages to avoid confronting the dog by offering him some food. Samson is only shown briefly and isn't the only dog in the film, but he leaves an impression.
just found your channel and I'm locked in. Also, give Pancake a big ole smooch bc she's a precious little lady 😭 also, thank you for the but about pit bulls. I have a pitty and she's basically just like, the most loving, hyperactive idiot on the planet and people seem to think that they're monsters when really, Brandy is probably the best depiction of a pitty: extremely loyal, protective when needed, and also a huge chicken who loves food. But also yes to Poppins.
I've never been a dog person and I put that down to being traumatized by Sid's dog in Toy Story, that thing is scary as f. Also want to second that Isle of Dogs is a superb film.
Poochinski had be cackling. Thanks for sharing the joy. Not nearly as goofy, but the dog&cop team up to fight crime reminded me of Kommissar Rex. A long running Austrian/Italian series about a super intelligent police dog helping his human partner solve cases.
Ooh I’m really excited to watch this! I recently fell down a bit of a rabbit hole about animal actors, specifically horses since they’re often used in combat scenes. I’m so grateful for actors like several of the LOTR cast members who adopt their on-screen horses so that they can retire. I’m sure it’s taxing to be used in so many high-stakes scenes on sets that are often very noisy, especially for an animal that doesn’t understand what’s going on.
‼️ *:Hot Take Alert:* 🚨 The exact moment Sam passed away in I Am Legend the credits should have immediately rolled. No Lie, Not Joking, Me Being For Real fr
Not necessarily a great dog performance but I think my favorite use of dogs as a prop is Best in Show. One of my favorite comedies of all time, the way that the characters project personalities onto their dogs and the way that their lives revolve around the dogs is so perfectly hilarious
Big ups to the dog from the start of No Country for Old Men. That thing was terrifying even in the water. Also one of the few wholesale additions to the story from how it’s told in the book
Lowkey really liked cats vs dogs as a kid, even though im more of a cat person that beagle is straight up adorable. Also the dog detecive clip remind me of this clip that went viral where there's clearly an actor in a dog suit running on its hindlegs and punching someone in the face. Mustve been a show from the 70's or something
The Pikey dog in Snatch who swallows the squeaky toy ... and some other stuff ... whole and then squeaks is the most hysterical thing I've ever seen. He dgaf 🤣 John Wick is kinda infamous for good reason, but I rly love JLo's absolutely badass assassin Sheps with fucking armor in JW3 - easily most badass dog characters I've ever seen. Also not a movie but shoutout to Daryl's Dog, he is a good badass boy.
I ADORE Bear the Belgian Malinois in Person of Interest. I was very impressed how often the dog featured and the level of consistent performance they got over the course of multiple seasons. Normally when I see a dog it's for a few episodes tops but Bear was there almost the whole way through the show and was very integral to characterization/used multiple times in the plot. Also interesting to see the same actor (Michael Emerson) have a dog companion during his appearance on the Fallout TV show! Part of me wonders if they cast him because of his familiarity with working with dogs on set (combined with him being typecast as the disturbingly intelligent guy with hard to parse ethics)? I have mixed feelings about live animal performers, mostly for the same reason I worry about minors working. I so worry about the dogs, but then I also hate the CGI replacements. Real animals do bring something so genuine to performances, plus I want to support ethical animal handlers who deserve paid work (and are most likely more unionized/protected than CGI workers who don't have the same protection - I don't know as much about this as I should). It's a hard line to straddle ethically. My first experience with dogs in movies was probably Old Yeller, and I've watched a lot of older movies before ethics laws were in place (exotic animals with their teeth pulled, animals looking to be in distress), which is difficult to watch and draws me out of whatever "feel good" moment the film was obviously going for. Dogs at least, love people and have the history of domestication going for them. It's easier to watch them perform and see their body language/know they are doing what they are comfortable doing. EDIT: i hadn't finished watching the video and see you mentioned the fallout show -_-
Maybe it doesn't count (it doesn't) but the book Dogs of War by Adrian Tchaikovsky has a dog as the main character. Delightful read, and sticks in my mind so deeply
My favorite dog character is red dog, hands down the best boy. Another id like to mention is snowy from spielbergs tin tin movie. I love snowy because he seems to know whats going on at about the same level as the people and seems equally invested is solving the mystery (he fights a fucking eagle) but never looses his dogness, he always seems like a dog, I dont know how else to explain it hope this makes sence. also that tin tin movie has one of my favorite chase seens in a movie, an incredible one shot scene following tons of characters but still manages to flow like a river, i think favorite chase seens would make a great video.
Favorite movie dog? Probably Asta from The Thin Man. Very well trained dog. Loads of personality and a bit of a brat. In one of the movies he even eats part of an important clue. (Though the pre-Hayes Code racy joke they tell with another dog having puppies with his love interest was...bizarre.)
Does anyone remember the movie fluke? The one where the dad dies and is reincarnated as a dog? I watched it so many times as a kid, and I feel like I'm the only one who remembers it 😅
You can't mention evry movie with dogs, I get it, but maaan, isle of dogs going absent through this whole video is wild. Though I can certainly see it falling the category where the dogs start feeling like dogs.
I know this movie isn't out yet, but as a comic fan and movie fan I know that you know that well all know krypto will be one of the best cinema pups of all time.
She had the muzzle on at the vet, we just moved & she had trouble with the new vet so they had to muzzle her lol, she doesn’t always do well with strangers she can get pretty nervous, she irritated a spot she she shouldn’t have so we had to put the cone on her for a day or two afterwards

What are some of y’alls favorite movie dogs?
Snoopy. That may be cheating but I'm going with it.
Falkor
My favorite on screen dog is whichever dog is currently on screen
The dog in Prey (2022)!
Omg wait I forgot about childhood favorite movie, Shiloh!
Cujo has an internal monologue in the book & it’s absolutely devastating. He wanted to be a good boy. He didn’t understand why he was being “a bad dog”. 💔
i wish i could unlearn this :(
At the end of the book referring to Cujo “It would perhaps not be amiss to point out that he had always tried to be a good dog. He had tried to do all the things his MAN and his WOMAN, and most of all his BOY, had asked or expected of him. He would have died for them, if that had been required. Hercules from The Sandlot is a standout for me. He goes from an almost mythological monster to an absolute pillow of a dog.
The Sandlot yessssssss
My favorite dog acting is the "Thing Dog" in The Thing. As soon as you see that dog alone you're like "That is not a fuckin dog" it just seems so wrong, just like the way it moves and stuff seems so un-doglike.
That's because the actor is half wolf! It's perfect casting for the role and really enhances the movie
Apparently Jed was just Like That. He even spooked the actors a bit because of how unusual his behavior was for a dog.
The fact there weren't at least 2 seasons of poochinski proves society is deeply flawed
I’m gonna be quoting “look at me… I’m a dog,” in any even vaguely relevant situation for at least the next ten years.
Have a lot of proves 🗿
He's more of a character in the book than the series but Dog from Good Omens is a delightful little dog character.
Right? Love that silly bastard and his beef with the neighborhood cats
Especially in the book where you get even more narration about him. He gets to just be a dog and starts enjoying it
19:35 the way the tone shifts in this trailer needs to be studied 💀i died laughing at this (and was reincarnated as a dog)😭😭
Sam's death gets me because her owner (I remember her name more than his LOL) had so many easier ways to put her down but he wanted to hold her until the very end. We were truly robbed of the joy that could have been. R.I.P. Poochinski.
There's a reason the tropes "Pet the Dog" and "Kick the Dog" exist.
We are definitely going to need a part 2 for this series because there are so many amazing dog movies. My personal favourite being Red Dog.
Frank the pug in MIB is one of my faves. Also I know it's not a film and I know he's not technically a dog... But Dino in the flintstones is my favorite 'dog' haha, he's just so sweet and reminds me of my black lab cece soooo much
Yeah that’s a good one I thought about including him but yeah didn’t since he technically isn’t a dog
Boy from Love and Monsters is a highlight of the film for me

I can't believe my goat, Milo from The Mask wasn't here
imagining you going skrrrt to pancake just made my day
16:41 Patrick Stewart’s character Jean-Luc Picard had a pet pitbull named Number One in season one of Star Trek: Picard!
Hooch, from Turner and Hooch, is one of my stand out favorites. He was a real character!
I have a French mastiff and I mean how can you hate that adorable face
My favorite trivia about I Am Legend is that it’s technically the second attempt at adapting Richard Matheson’s book. The first is Omega Man starring Charlton Heston. Which is also one of the first major Hollywood movies with an on-screen interracial kiss!
It's actually the third! The first was an old Vincent Price movie called The Last Man on Earth.
Omega Man is such an interesting film. @@ar6543 I fully agree! The first scene of Heston in his manor is probably my favorite scene in the entire movie.

My favorite is the connection between the dog character and Ewan McGregor's character in Beginners. Great movie 👍
Anatomy of a Fall. Period. The greatest actor in that film and the whole movie was filled with legendary performances.
my dog farts, but can't take what he deals. when someone else farts he runs away
Lmao I love that

Actually, the Anatomy of a Fall dog was definitely Acting with a capital A
You have become a top 3 creator for me
i never cried at movies or shows but then i watched i am legend and when sam died it opened the floodgates and i can cry at media bow
Eddie from Frasier and Max from the Grinch are my favourites ❤
fun fact: in the live action grinch, max was played by six different dogs! the main dog actor was kelly, ron howard's dog he adopted from the pound :)
@AKA253 6 good boys and girls 😭💖✨️
I'm shocked Isle of Dogs didn't make the list of great movie dogs. Great video none the less!

Nope good try though, I actually desperately need to rewatch that one I haven’t seen it in probably a decade

My favorite dog in any movie is the one from SANDLOT!! ♥
I had just seen that Alex Boucher video! 2 goats making great videos about the goodest boys and girls back to back. Its been a good month.
Also, love Dogpool, from Deadpool and Wolverine.

oh but I just recalled- Fox and the Hound (animated, of course). Both dogs are so good as characters
Isle of dogs is a pretty good movie, I liked Chief/Chifu.
Listen. Beethoven.

Where is the dog from When Evil Lurks? Lol
Lmao that’s a good one
@17:01 Pete Docter directed Up, not Brad Bird.
I'm surprised you didnt mention Wes Anderson's habit of killing dogs in his quirky little movies
Frankenweenie yooooo
Important video, thank you.
I like how even on your tangent about the Once Upon a Time ellipses you still get it wrong on your card in the corner. It's insidious!
Does anyone remember the movie fluke? The one where the dad dies and is reincarnated as a dog? I watched it so many times as a kid, and I feel like I'm the only one who remembers it 😅
yes, its based on the book of the same name by James Herbert

I’ll do that eventually, probably not within the next month or so though
@@PancakeOnUA-cam yippie !
Argos from any depiction the Odyssey is best dog.
(Why EPIC: The Musical why there were no mention of him 😢)
Will Smith having to put down his dog traumatized me

I want to like Krypto but the dog cgi looks too uncanny to me
The Plague Dogs
I have an Aussie shepherd named Pancake.
🐶
My favorite dog character is red dog, from red dog
Chance from Chance
YAY
cant believe this video isn't made by Pancake herself smh
Ah yes Poppins. The Frank Gallagher dog
Do the 2006 Classic Hit Tim Allen film The Shaggy Dog lol
Off topic, curious as to why Pancake seemed to wear a muzzle at home? I did see a cone at some point, so I assume it’s for health reasons?
She had the muzzle on at the vet, we just moved & she had trouble with the new vet so they had to muzzle her lol, she doesn’t always do well with strangers she can get pretty nervous, she irritated a spot she she shouldn’t have so we had to put the cone on her for a day or two afterwards
that makes perfect sense!💕 poor lil pancake, i hope she settles!💕
i love dogs. i'm also allergic to dogs
Brad Bird didn't work on Up
Benji the Hunted
what about Whitefang!
I Am Legend beats out Where the Red Fern Grows in terms of a tear jerker for you? Have you seen it?
I maybe read the book in school at some point but no didn’t even know there was a movie
i used to really like I am legend, but as soon as the dog had to die, i hated the film and still refuse to watch it again
Isle of dogs
nice
Favourite weird movies?
Watch this video with my two best Dogs sleep ✌🗿
Nice video. Ill sound like an ass, but fyi Pancake is overweight, if you are able to slim her down a bit Im sure she would appreciate it 💜
No you’re good yes she is overweight, we’re not sure why it happened because we don’t over feed but as of a couple weeks ago she is on a vet prescribed diet so we are working to slim her down rn
If you have depictions of hell, why not depictions of heaven?
Honestly have no idea why you make your spoiler warning so long whilst also spoiling what entries are going to be coming up.

Pitbulls *are*, on the whole, demonstrably more dangerous than other dog breeds.
Breed-specific behavioral differences *are* real.
