I'm a HUGE HUGE Batman fan and I think Robert Pattinson's performance as Batman is the absolute best live-action potrayal of him. I could go on and on about it but I'll restrain myself to just talking about the mask aspect. First off, I just love the look of it and the suit as a whole. It looks increaibly durable and funciontal while still having a type of home-made and stiched-together quality I really enjoy. I also feel as though most other live action batman's mouths are trying to escape the mask, like it's always too tight on them and makes the lower half of their face look pudgy becasue of it. Pattinson's is slick. In another comparison that focuses more on performance, the 'Batman voice' a lot of other actor's use feels really goofy. Like they're very forcably trying to make their voices deeper while Pattinson's comes off very naturally. I loved listening to interviews where Pattinson talks about Batman and his psychology becuase man he and this movie just GET Batman. The moment at the end where one of The Riddler's followers repeats the same "I'm vengence" line Batman had at the beginning makes me want to throw up its so good. It was so satisfying seeing Batman go through a real character arc in this movie. The beginning which perfectly sets up how even the idea of Batman is so terrifying to people that the man he saved from a bunch of goons is begging for his life. The very end where he helps the girl into the helicopter gurney and she clings to him because she feels safe with him. And he puts a comforting hand on hers. golly. ALSO ALSO The Riddler in the movie! Paul Dano is honeslty one of the greatest living actors today and he manages to make The Riddler be both comedic and poopy pants terrifying at the same time. The opening scene with the mayor where we see him pacing around and the TV flashes to reveal Edward behind him. Oh my god. oh my god so good it still gives me chills?? I saw this movie five times in theatres and on the second viewing I saw it with my best friend and her family. I was sat next to her step-mom who basically hand my hand in a choke-hold whenever The Riddler appeared on screen because she was so terrified of him. Anywhosies I love this movie one of my favorite movies of all time and all the performances in it I love it and the music and everything soooooo much.
Love your videos! One note: Show don't Tell doesn't mean "never convey information through dialogue" it means "don't hand stuff to the audience, let them figure it out for themselves" if you have a dialogue scene where we can infer two characters are lifelong rivals just from what they say from each other, while the information is communicated through dialogue, it can still follow show don't tell as long as no one says "ah, it's you, my lifelong rival" what people mean is more like "demonstrate, don't tell"
14:53 Kilgrave is one of those rare villains where the scene chewing doesn't diminish his menace. He's affable one second and then downright terrifying in the next. Tennant really nails those quick emotional transitions, which is super fitting for the manipulative bastard the Purple Man is.
Bro I hope it's not just my gay teen nostalgia goggles but MAN the Supernatural team really knew how to make an entrance with Castiel. The whole episode is solving the mystery of "how the hell is Dean alive?" Then everything builds up to... what looks like anyone else we've seen, no cosmic horror, nothing awe-inspiring. He says he's an angel, but we're primed to disbelieve him cause creatures lie about things like this all the time. Then the shadow of huge wings unfurling is suddenly cast against the wall. It's such a cool fucking visual to introduce the lore of Heaven into the show.
I saw this video 30 minutes after it dropped and as soon as Frank was mentioned I immediately watched it. I have never cared about spoilers but this was one of the first movies I had the immediate urge to watch. Thank you Pancake and Pancake owner
I did the exact same thing and I'm back here to yell at this pancake fellow for how vile that movie was. hit my every single insecurity as someone who's trying to be creative. it was great though and thankfully i'm not british so I should be alright.
Your mention of the Godzilla trailer makes me want to see a video on your favorite movie trailers. You should make one sometime; I think that would be really interesting!
you're literally speaking of one of my favorite pieces of media(uncut gems, jessica jones and ichi the killer) in the same video it's sooo amazing bahaha, btw yeah i also thought for a big part of my life that ichi was that cool ass kakihara(also yeah the intro is really wild like the title card scene????), anyway i really enjoy watching your videos lately, keep up the good work !!!!
The entrance of Phillip Seymour Hoffman's character in The Talented Mr. Ripley is so good. Him rolling up in his fancy car and yelling in Italian really got me and showcased his character
cassidy from preacher has got to be my favourite character introduction. absolutely ludicrous fight scene that ends with him jumping out of an airplane and tells you everything you need to know about him.
frank was also my first intro into that sort of indie film, when i was getting into indie music and it holds a weirdly special place in my heart, so its great to see it talked about :)
Hans Landa has to have my favorite character introduction of all time. The intensity of the scene is palpable and the nervousness I felt watching cannot be put into words.
The Purple Man is such a crazy character for Mavel's street level heroes who can be taken care of by any top teir heavy hitter such as Thor or Hulk. But having characters like Daredevil having to deal with powers from The Purple Man gives a different type of suspense
@PancakeOnUA-cam Stop saying your facial expressions out loud, it's extremely annoying. But for real I Love You All is pretty up there for me so I am someone who actually really enjoys the music from that movie. Also, Dan Deacon rules and I love When I Was Done Dying.
Yeah that’s one of the few songs I know every word to I think I heard it for the first time in this show called Dark on Netflix, the song he improvises about the carpet tuft is my fav from the soundtrack
@PancakeOnUA-cam I've heard Dark is really good, if it's got a Dan Deacon song in the sound track I'm definitely going to check it out... Lone standing tuft. Defy the foot. What age are you in carpet years?
for what it’s worth i went to the description of that horror scenes video immediately upon hearing that song to add it to my playlist! please keep including weird cool music in your videos 🙏 it is appreciated i promise!
I've had Cool Hand Luke on my Plex server and to-watch list for ages now. The comedy of the 50 eggs scene has put it way higher on my list. Such a guys being guys moment.
Just stumbled upon your channel and must say I am very impressed and extremely glad to have found this channel. Keep up the amazing content, love your style!
I, semi-recently, was thinking/talking-with-friends/family about this very topic; I don't remember all that was said or that I thought of, but some of those I do remember were: Maleficent from _Sleeping Beauty_ The Hunters from _Bambi_ (imo, the Hunter's theme outdoes even the Jaws theme as possibly the most terrifyingly-tense villain music ever) General Grevious from _Clone Wars_ (the 2003 2D-animated one by Genndy Tartakovsy) Lucy from _Elfen Lied_ (The show isn't that great overall, but that into sequence of Lucy breaking out of the facility she's in is freaking awesome) Morpheus from _The Matrix_ Raymond Reddington from _The Blacklist_ And Dante from _Devil May Cry 3_ For many years though, my favorite character introduction had been Captain Jack Sparrow in _Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl_ and that one shot as the big epic theme music is swelling and the camera pulls back to show his boat sinking as he just casually steps onto the dock. I say it "had" been my favorite though, because a couple years ago I saw _RRR_ and the whole 'Fire' sequence from that pretty much immediately took the top spot for me.
Love the vid as always. Heads up that your vocal audio is very shouty/clippy at the high end - lots of added high frequency /hissing noise whenever you speak, even when I have the audio turned down. In the middle chunk of the video especially - Not sure if there was a different recording situation but definitely recommend some audio mixing + fixes!
Yeah I tried a different record setting because I wasn’t at my usual location & it didn’t turn out great- it also processed kind of funky so I do apologize for that
Adam's introduction in record of ragnarok's manga is absolute peak character introduction imo. He rises from the floor in the pose of the creation of man, as all the beasts of the land and sky charge forward beneath him. Baldur reads from the book of genesis and declares the Gods undying hatred for him. Then of course he takes a bite of his apple. The author really put his best art into the character introductions. Record of ragnarok did get an anime adaptation but it was pretty bad, i recommended reading it instead
Uncut Gems was the most stressful movie watching experience I have ever had. God this guy just relentlessly did the exact opposite of what I was silently begging him to do. It was extremely well written, acted, directed, etc, etc but that being said I hated it. Way too intense! It's been over 4 years you since I watched it and i still feel its energy haunting me when I think about it. If you want a movie that will yield a reaction from even the most stoic among us, watch Uncut Gems.
Your videos bring me so much joy as someone who is just now getting into cinema. You deserve way more subscribers. Please give pancake some pets for me.
I think killing them softly is one of the most overhated movies of all time. I can see how if a film came out today and wouldn’t shut up about Covid I would be bored but today it should be rewatched and given another chance

You talking about the BREATHTAKING trailer for Godzilla Kind of the Monsters is sooo right !!!! That trailer was pure perfection and it was on repeat for me for the longest time… then the movie happened and what a disappointment bro
Pancake dear, the reason I didn’t ask for the Fila Brasilia song is because you put it in the description so I didn’t have to. I listen to it quite often and play it for others, it is my treasure. Also your audio kinda crunchy in this one wtf goin on with your mic

I also dislike it for the way they handled Serizawa as a character like the whole convoluted setup of his death feels like a hate crime communicated entirely through metaphor so maybe it will be disliked if the average person in 2035 has enough political awareness to recognize how weird that part of the movie is.
@@PancakeOnUA-cam Its not high art or anything, and perhaps Skull Island is a better movie from an artistic standpoint, but when you get down to it I just love the action and set pieces more in KotM than the others, and that's what I come to Godzilla for (at least the American ones)

Dude can you keep on track about the movies. What the hell was that tangent about music festivals and weird music? I wanted to learn about frank you barely gave anything about it.
What is your favorite performance where the actor wears a mask for either the entirety or most of the duration of the role?
King Bladwin in Kingdom of Heaven

Does Iron Man count? I'd say he has the suit on for about 50% of the role and I always just loved Robert Downeys performance as Tony Stark.
Lelouch vi Britannia as zero in Code Geass
Nic Cage in Kickass.

Gay teen nostalgia goggles or not that’s a great intro for sure, extremely memorable
General Grievous in the original Clone Wars 2D Micro Series has one of the greatest introductions EVER
