  • This video tutorial will show you how to tone out ugly brassy orange tones in the hair to leave you with beautiful soft shinny sandy blonde hair. I show you how to do it with a wella toner. I use T11 and T18 wish is a mixture of an extremely ashy toner and a more soft sandy oatmeal colored toner combined to give you a perfectly balanced and neutral blonde color. With this particular wella toner I mixed an an ion scalp sensitive developer in 20 volume. Using two part developer and one part toner to ensure enough penetration of toner into the hair and depositing only balanced neutral cool tones for a soft subtle beautiful blonde result! Make sure always to deep condition after every color/tonin process to ensure long lasting color, tone and an amazing bright shimmer to the hair.
    I left the Toner on the hair in 15 minutes, but you can leave it longer depending on how porous and brassy your hair is. just keep an eye on the hair and keep in mind that the longer you leave it, the more ashy it will turn out.

    For people asking about the 1 part toner and two parts developer:
    - pour your toner into a bowl
    - fill up the now empty toner bottle with developer and pour it into the bowl
    - fill up the toner bottle again with developer and pour that into the bowl
    - mix it all up and you're good to apply to your hair!

    Thank you so much for this video! I recently dyed my hair at home to save money (after going to the salon for years) and it turned out so yellow even though I was using a cooler dye. I wanted to cry because it looked so horrible and I had a big job interview coming up! I did some research on how to fix it, and came across your video. I ended up using T14 and after 10 minutes my hair looked amazing. All the ugly yellow was gone and my hair looked as good as it did when I went to the salon, but it was about $125 cheaper!
    Thank you for your videos and your channel! It saved me so much money and heartache!!

    It amazes me how people find something negative to say, no matter what. Just wanted to say thanks for the video... this is the happiest I've been with my color since I went blonde again, about six months ago. Absolutely love your videos and the detail that you put into them! My hair is a very similar colour to yours, although my natural colour is a bit lighter than yours I think. With regard to this video, when I go to the salon, I have two hair dressers that I will go to depending on who is available both of whom applier toner to wet hair. If I chose to have a toner applied my hair dresser(s) wash out my foils/highlights and then apply the toner to my hair while it is still wet (it has quickly been towel dried). I'm assuming you did yours on dry hair. What is the difference? Thank you in advance :)

    End tone is absolutely fabulous! Omg, but I have to say about the darker hair - your newer growth - Makes the bleaching look very natural as if your hair was colored by surfing thru the summer. This coloration looks best on me in my opinion - maybe bcz of my skin tone idk. So - any special way you accomplished this or is it just natural outgrowth plus the toner ( u mention toner will lighten roots slightly) it looks so awesome ! Ty!!!!

Luckily my mother in law, whose hair is gray, had some 3A hair color lying around and I was able to brush that on my roots. I was so scared doing it but I had no choice. Luckily it turned out AMAZING!! my hair is a smoky ombre now and it's beautiful. Thank you for this color combo of toners!

    using peroxide can it cause breakage ?
    What am doing is every 5 weeks I retouch my roots 1 finger worth of root growth am a level 5 I use 20 vol with alfaparf 11 and it lightens a lot to a level 9 and I wait like four finger growth of color touch up with bleach using 20 peroxide to even out the roots with the rest of my hair

    This video has saved me on more than one occasion. I NEVER bleach my own hair, it is too long, too blonde, and too fine. BUT with this video I am able to tone it to perfection! I have used this formula to correct my too-much-sun yellowy-gold (my base color is very strawberry) AND to weather out the transitional period between multiple processes (going from brown TO platinum) when I just wouldn't risk bleach without a few weeks of TLC. Thank you!

    Thanks for the vid! I had my hair highlighted 3 days ago, but wasn't happy with the yellow/brassy tones that were showing through.
    My natural hair is a warm dark blonde, and I love the ash blonde look, but was nervous to go 100% ashy. I used the T18 and T11 mixed with the 20 vol. for 15 minutes on damp hair. My hair definitely looked purple/grey when it was wet, but as soon as I dried it the colour looked great!
    This will definitely lift any darker tones in you hair, but I found it made my highlights more natural. I also used my purple shampoo when I washed it out followed by an Ion repair conditioning treatment and my hair feels really nice.

    The toners aren't available here in Germany, so I had to Amazon them. They finally arrived a couple of days ago and I used them today. The result is absolutely perfect! I did panic a bit when after a few minutes the colour on my head turned a weird grey purple. ;) I'll definitely stock up on these when I go to the States in August!

    I just did this with T11 and T18, but instead of doing equal parts of both toner, I did a 2:1... 2 tablespoons of T18, 1 tablespoon of T11. I think it worked really well.!

    • @christymichael
      @christymichael 9 років тому

      I followed your recipe to a T. My result is a light purple cast and very dulled over all color. Albeit the roots are softened and no more gold/ brass ... Used 20 volume for 12 minutes.. Wonder what went wrong?

    • @christymichael
      @christymichael 9 років тому +2

      Okay I have to add that this morning after doing the process and my hair has had time to dry.. It does look much improved. ..I bet if I had stayed right at 10 minutes it would be even less ashy/ sandy.. And I did apply to washed towel dryed damp hair... Where as in other de brassing videos product is applied to dry hair... And I wonder how applying to dry hair effects the results.. Thank you, Silvia.. Plz keep teaching us!

    I must be the only woman in the country who actually likes golden blonde tones. Seems the current trend is towards ash and everyone is trying to get the "brass" out. I'm looking to get more in! That said, your hair came out very nice but I liked the "before" better. Just me and my gold obsession, I guess.

    • @dovestone_
      @dovestone_ 8 років тому +1

      Yeah, I think it would deffo depend on your skin tone / roots :) brassy tones can look really nice, but because my roots are a light cool brown I think a cool blonde would look nicer on me :)

    • @Cissy2cute
      @Cissy2cute 8 років тому +2

      Katie Ahronson Since I now have over 50% grey, my naturally dark brown hair no longer plays such a big role. The 20 volume provides just enough of a lift to make the darker hair blend nicely with the grey. That's how I pull off the more golden shades. Over time the darker hairs gradually are covered up even more. I think the gold tones make my blue eyes pop more. It's tricky, though. Blonde is the hardest to pull off (maybe only outdone by the many red shades now so popular).

      Well, I got what I wanted. The colorist did exactly like the pic I showed her and.....well, let's just say I learned a lesson. It is too gold, even for me and not that great with my complexion. So it will soon be going back to lighter, less gold. And level 9 for sure. But I still dislike those ash colors that look like all the life is gone from the hair. Again, just my opinion. Live and learn.

    • @musingmina3257
      @musingmina3257 8 років тому +4

      I agree. I don't get why all the yellow or gold is so bad (orange is another story) either. When I was little my friends and I would talk about how we would love to have "yellow" hair (before we knew that the word "blonde" is what we meant) so these days when I hear people talk about how undesirable it is, I'm kind of perplexed. LOL. I also agree with your statement that some ash colors look like all the life is gone from the hair. But I guess I also understand that it all depends on a person's skin tone.

    • @strangertobluewater

      No, I am a HUGE fan of golden blonde. There is definitely a difference between brassy orange and golden blonde! Ash tones can really age you and unless you're scandinavian, it is REALLY hard to pull of after you hit your mid-30s or so.

    I find that when I use t18 Wella toner on my darker roots, it lifts them and makes them very brassy and orange. This toner works wonders in my light blonde hair though, it's my favorite. I just always avoid putting the toner on my roots. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this while also toning your darker roots?

    • @courtneyd8483
      @courtneyd8483 7 років тому +1

      Olivia Pautot I have the same problem, I just try and keep it away from the roots. Or use a 10 volume. And still try and keep it away from the roots. It's meant to just deposit colours. You may end up toning more frequently this way, but it helps with the roots going brassy. You can also add a toner with a blue base to help combat orange.

    • @kristinschilling3564
      @kristinschilling3564 7 років тому +1

      She is using 20 volume to get a bit of lift, so you can go to a 10 volume for deposit only without much, if any, lift.

    yeah this toner is made to correct the hair 1/2 a shade or so. It will not bring you from orage to a beautiful platinum blonde. You have to be pretty bright to begin with. You can absolutely use this toner to tone brown hair as well its pretty universal it just will not brighten hair. Hope that makes sense.

    Yes folks, clap for her luck and saving a few dollars.... :/ Ask what she DIDN'T TELL YOU about her hair before she applied this color. What is her natural level, what was her tonality, was her hair bleached out first, balayaged, heavily hi lighted? I am a hairdresser, and this is why we exist. To ask those questions and deliver the task properly. Not to drain your pockets because we can. Truthfully, I could care less if someone colors their own hair to save a buck (I struggle like the rest). If the color complements my haircut, selfishly I don't care how it got there. However, If the home job is horrible I will demand they have an Olaplex treatment ($30), and a color correction ($200-300) before they sit in my chair (insurance on MY reputation). Even then, there is a risk of length loss if it is terribly damaged.
    I am not suggesting that saving a penny is not worth it IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE WORKING WITH, but if you don't, then you risk the loss of larger sums of money than if you just sat in a chair to begin with.

    • @emikosiberian
      @emikosiberian 9 років тому +3

      mfdcreates Actually, clap for your classy reply. In no way shape or form was I making a professional plea for solicitation, that would require contact information. Instead it was a statement of caution to all those who are looking for a quick fix that they may end up spending more in the end. This is what WE ALL SEE from our professional perspective, time and time again. I am well aware of her professional status. I do do my research BEFORE I comment.

      emikosiberian Except in other videos she has expressly said what her base natural colour is. At least admit that the explosion of information on the internet is a threat to your business. It is thus painfully obvious what your cynical motives are.
      I wonder if you realise how odious your 'clap for' shtick is? I think if you did then you certainly wouldn't do it.
