  • Hey everyone! Here is a quick crash course on how to tone blonde hair! This is a outline of what kinds of thing youre looking for when you tone and what kinds of colours you can use in the @Schwarzkopf Professional USA Toning line "Vibrance". Ive had a lot of people ask me about my toners over the years so this is essentially what i do to formulate my toners. I hope this was all helpful and I hope you remember to like & subscribe :)
    also the video i chatted about earlier in this video is on my channel called "HOW TO: BLACK TO BLONDE"

      Yesssss...and then it looks crazy when you have dimensional blondes ( level 4 roots, level 8 sandy blonde and level 10 bright NOT white blonde) it seems like every was told to " when in doubt use Violet" and now stuck with a full weird fox browny gray w a purple tinge 😔

    Thank you for sharing ❤️ I learnt more about toning hair here, than at college when studying Hairdressing. I understand the theory more now, thank you so much! Can you please do a video on how to mix different toners and different formulas, with examples of clients hair you have already toned, like in this video or other videos. Also, showing or explaining what to mix and how much to mix and what the hair looks like before and after toning. It would help a lot of student Hairdressers and newly qualified Hairdressers.

    My hair looks very dark in certain lightings and most people think it's brown (I thought as well), but my hair stylist explained to me, that I'm actually dark ash blonde with a lot of red/orange Pigments underneath. (No clue why it appears ashy or is still considered dark blonde with red Pigments though😅) That's why I lift very quickly, but at the same time it's hard to get rid of the orange if you're not prepared. (My first own bleach was an orange disaster🙈)
    Good thing about this is I even lift 1 or 2 levels with just permanent color, if it's a red tone. 😅

    I used a toner with volume 10 developer on highlighted blonde hair . The base (natural) areas that are dark blonde , actually lifted slightly with a dark orange glint . I only had the toner on for 10 mins. I was under the impression that 10 volume didn't lift , only deposited. Is my hair unique? What level developer do salons use with toner on highlighted hair ?

    Hi Bobby, your expertise in the formulation of color is impressive!
    I have had a question about formulation for a long time and never found a serious and complete answer. I saw in a video (SKP professional) and elsewhere too that a level 10 contains about half the color molecules concentration than a level 9, and level 9 contains about half the color molecules concentration than level 8, and so on. Hence, when using 20 g of 9-1 and 10 g of 8-4 we end up with an equal amount of 1(cendrés) pigments as of 4 (beiges) pigments.
    First question: Does that correspond to your observation?
    ***
    Besides, in the SKP lines, let's take for example 30 g of 7-49. That, of course, means more 4 (beiges) pigments and less 9 (violets) pigments.
    Second question: How much "less" pigment is in the accent digit? Does that mean about the equivalent of using 20 g of 7-4 and 10 g of 7-9? And that would be also almost equivalent to using 15 g of 7-4 and 15 g of 8-9? Here I wrote 'almost' because I suspect this last formulation to be a bit lighter since it should end up between level 7 and 8, while the previous one stay at level 7.
    ***
    Thanks for your time.

    I totally would have loved to watch this video 2 days ago before I went Sally’s. I was definitely a level 10 minus some ultra pale yellow tidbits and orange/copper roots. I am not a hairdresser, no education whatsoever I’m cosmetology except YT videos and years of trial and error, I just wanted know from them if , in their opinion I needed to bleach my roots only, again, (wasn’t my choice, it was was a choice to only “break glass and use in am emergency” situation. And if it could be toned down what toner I would and also toner for the rest of my head.She talked me into coloring my hair.OMG I so knew better, I knew better. Showed me a color swatch that was actually the color I was aiming for . Yeah I knew better. Followed her directions and the directions from the box of the cursed color. Why is it cursed? Because instead of being the blonde/ light silver tones to hide my grey la blend better. iT turned my hair into purple. And not the pretty purples that are out there. But puke bileish dull purple with ginger roots. 🤪 I have debilitating arthritis and herniated discs. I can’t sit in the salon chair more than 15 minutes w/o wanting to scream. Just sharing that part for anyone that says you should have went to the salon. I know but ya know even in perfect health we all do some crazy stuff when we’re bored and it’s 1AM. I😊 I have done that so many times but I swim and we have intuition it's not just that that you have been learning you knew better and every time I haven't listened to my gut well guess what yep it has happened to me but guess what... I have learned so much don't only go with one channel or one person and literally do your research and just wait and see what feels. There's so many things that are accessible to us I would just use try a gloss or a glaze first and then maybe Demi but you've got to understand the science and like the high lift meaning the letters h l well you know I just learned a lot from the science girls and then applied it to the other people that know how to do it and then their artists and then you know you're going to know whatit's best for you and you know I don't know some girl keeps going on about her hairline but I like those in the summer you know just a tad bit but I think she's been using herself as a guinea pig this one chick I found which is she's amazing she is a hairdresser and she's now in repair mode so yeah her hairline screwed up but she's trying to save us as well but I'm a little bit yeah but the main thing of why we are cursed or why why I was cursed as well don't ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever go by what someone says ever on a box or on a channel or anything because guess what the only true thing just literally a toner or a demi it really or even bleach you have to keep checking it literally every 2 minutes so it could be up to 60 but literally you just need to watch it literally give yourself grace and patience.

Could you please help me understand if by "fill colors" you meant you add the Schwartzkopf gold filler 0-55 with clear before you apply your 9-4 & 8-4 base Schwartzkopf vibrance toners or if you add the gold concentrate to the formulas or if you just meant use a toner that has the (-4 beige muted gold color) in the formula as the primary color? Secondly what do you think of the new "Muted Desert shades" They have a for but fin one it's the secondary and the other it's the primary with ash/blue as the second 9-42 & 9-24 are they pretty for this or would they be muddy and one should stay away if beige is the goal. So for the fill colours, both of your options are great choices! Either adding a 0-55 kicker or adding something with a 4 or 5 in it in the toning line. I personally love the muted desert shades but I use them for the clients who are nervous to inch towards neutral and warm colours as it’s more on the cool side of beige. It’s great for mushroom brunettes and blondes and anyone whose shy to come over from the ashy colour trend that we had for years

Yet I did overlap and lost a small chuck of hair. As this goes on it seems to get harder. Or maybe I’m not dedicating enough time planning and effort into this. I should plan on spending at least five hours or more if toning. It was just sloppy or the bleach powder is getting old or I didn’t use enough peroxide in mixture on top. It workable but needs a couple days not touching it. Thank you so much for your help. I wish I did still have a stylist. And I don’t know why sometimes I nail it and others I make a mess. I like to know if it’s possible to dye hair to a ginger/copper/auburn without bleaching? 6 months ago I got honey blonde highlights in my hair & just right after the hair washing or maybe during the hair washing my hair was a complete disaster it starting breaking & falling out badly.. it was like combing through hay & it was sooo tangly & knotted I cried.. the hair stylist didn’t say anything til she started to comb through it though to cut my hair & she couldn’t do that but she started to tell me did I have bleach in my hair already but of course not my hair was completely just my hair it was super long.. I have dark dark brown hair naturally so idk what happened I just know these past months I’ve been scared to do anything I’ve since been only washing my hair maybe twice a week maybe 3 times if that I did use to use dry oil remedy in my hair(if I can remember if that’s what it’s called) & olaplex no 6 & basically just only use pureology shampoo & conditioner or redkin in my hair to help with the dryness. I think I got my hair glossed like twice but that’s been a while as well but that was after the breakage each time they dusted through my hair to get off the dead dried out parts. But since it’s been half a year I just wanted to know if it’s safe to dye my hair again.. I guess I’m just trying to do one solid color(which is ginger\ almost auburn) & will this mess up my hair more will this require bleaching? I’m really trying to steer clear from bleaching for as long as possible. Any advice at all for a desperate being that took pride in their hair til this whole hair-tastrophy...!?

      Hi there! So I'm definitely not Miss Bobby, lol... but I am a licensed hair dresser and I feel like I have answers to your questions !! So, yes you can do a solid color. I would only, ONLY do a demi-permament color. Not permanent. Alot of demi's can help the hair to feel better afterward. I feel like you would benefit from using Olaplex shampoo and conditioner, or even Redkens Bleach Recovery. And #6 in Olaplex is a great leave in...but not nearly as affective for what you have going on in my oppinion. Now the #3 is like an intense bond building mask that would truly change the way your hair feels within a few uses!! So you cant go wrong with adding that on to your Olaplex arsenal! Lol
      Also heat protectant...omg can't stress this enough!! Personally I think this is a product where more, is more!! I use a leave in spray or cream that helps protect from heat, after washing and before blow drying and also when my hair is dry, I will use a heat protectant on it for curling or however I style that day! It will save the life of your hair!! Hope that helps in some way! ((:

    How do you keep the platinum/silver/gray from going back to just blonde and the yellow tones from coming back? My will look very shiny sliver blonde but then it's like it washes out and or fades in like a week. Then when the roots start to grow back my hair looks really yellowish on the top and somewhat blonde towards the end. I have short hair.

      That just is the nature of having bleached hair. Toners that light always fade fast and reveal the underlying pigment underneath.
      For at home maintenance you can use strong purple shampoo to fight the yellow tones when the toner fades out.

    • @sunuman4454
      @sunuman4454 2 роки тому +3

      Yes mine exactly the same. I use a purple shampoo (dead cheap touch of silver to fight yellow tones). To go back to silver you have to leave it on for ten mins - but b careful of purple streaks; you have to experiment. I normally do a purple shampoo every other wash (so every other time I wash my hair) to keep it silver. Xxxx.

    When I decided to bleach my hair I went to your page for the guts to do it. I had hair breakage , right on the crown in the back which was a shocker gotta say. ugh. Right now, my hair is REALLY white, my husband says it's not 'blonde' to him, and I happen to agree. I did tone it this time with T18, never done that before, so maybe that's what has pushed me over the edge to white now. I'd like to tone it more towards less white and more gold(ish) ish? Not sure what your advice would be for that tho? I know, STOP MESSING WITH YOUR HAIR. I hear that voice in my head already. ha Anyway, whatever help you can suggest I am listening...NOW. ;)

    I had to remove a semi-permanent (M.P. Supernaturals/Cobra). It was really more of an auburn color, fading to a brassy red. Soooo, I did a bleach bath and ended up with a peach shade. Once again and then mostly a leverl 10 with some 9. I don't want silver, ashy, or platinum. I even tried 'beige' and it looked too gray. Now what? I still want the level but without too much yellow and not gray/ashy either. Any advice- anyone? I can't afford a salon right now.

    • @Hairfan
      @Hairfan Рік тому +1

      It sounds like the bleach bath helped. Have you tried doing another bleach bath? If you haven't done that, or if you did and it didn't work, just bleach it. Use a 10 vol so you can go slow.
      What do you mean when you say you tried beige? Was it a toner? A permanent colour?

    • @lolak7438
      @lolak7438 Рік тому +2

      @@Hairfan Hi- It was a toner. I even tried the L'Oreal toner-a 'Champagne' color. The picture looked like my hair so, why not? The only problem -there was a lot of blue in the pigment. If you have any (even a very small/light amount) of yellow it creates a green cast. My hair, now, has breakage at the part. I'm going to go dark again. Much easier than trying to do the root area. Bleaching just ruins your hair unless you have loads of money to go to a salon for the upkeep. Not worth it. Thanks for replying!

      @@enwe6487 Hey- sorry it took so long- maybe you've found a solution- I hope☺. I jst gave my hair a break and used things like dandruff shampoo/Dawn diswashing liquid (you can google less damaging products that aren't as harsh). Then I made sure to condition it with really good products (Olaplex, Kerastase ) adding back both moistue and protein. Oh- Kevin Murphy has some great products that have a gentle lavender color so it doesn't come out too ashy-plus they're excellent for the hair. I kept washing to a minimum and avoided using too much heat. Letting my hair mostly air dry. Also a good moroccan oil and heat styling spray. I also took some really good vitamins, collagen, viviscal. If it's close to breaking of, trust me, leave it alone as much as possible. All of what I did restored my hair but I made a recent mistake. I was covering the root area and by mistake biught a high- lift blonde color😮 Now I do have some breakage around my part. Back to babying my hair again. Blonde's a bitch🙄 lol.

    Okay wait I'm so confused why in the world okay everything is correct on and she did a beautiful job with the mixing of toners or if you will summer Demi summer permanent they're all actually color if you will anyways to make a long story short the shadow root I'm glad she mentioned that because it's very easy to do but you people have been explaining it wrong and this woman did not explain it here but I'm telling you what where is the dimension where is the dimension of hopefully she'll put the lowlights in hence low lower level which would be browner right you want the dimension and then high lift high level would be the blonde. You're going to have to go probably I mean I used to rent out toners way before it's time. Because I freaked out like in 2 minutes because it was getting darker well I didn't realize the levels even though I was sitting there understanding it I still would freak out.

    What color toners did you use for the lightest, brightest blond? I was doing spring cleaning and found 1 tube of blue steel, 2 tubes of ice, and 1 tube of sand. I'm like, wth was I thinking when I bought it?! lol! I cannot figure out how to arrange these. Could these be used for a cool, icy blond with blonder tips that would let my level 2 roots grow out? I’m sorry, I hope I haven’t offended. last time I referenced my clients hair in a video I used the term Hispanic/Spanish accidentally and was told that was wrong too. I don’t know what I should be saying when referencing to her hair type. All I was implying is that her hair is naturally dark, but that shouldn’t scare off stylists from taking dark hair to light blonde because some clients can lift very easily and quickly with almost no yellow colours.

      @bobbyhairstudio I understand why it can feel relevant to mention a client’s ethnicity or heritage as that does seem to be the factor that determines how much melanin is in their hair! Maybe there’s a more technical way to put it that doesn’t risk “othering” someone. Like “this client has level 2 hair, straight texture, medium density, and wide diameter hair shaft”?

    • @BobbyHairStudio

      @@dressmaking I do use technical terms often but I find some people without much technical background may find relatability more understandable for them.
