i think youre the first person/detailer that actually showscontent of them polishing the whole car, door panels, trunk, etc. other content creators usually just show the hood and call it a day, yes they go through the whole car but it has always been intimidating to me to do a whole car because no other person has showed how they do the whole car and you did, huge props to you!
Thanks! Glad it helped
You should do a video on polishing FAQs for beginners as well. For example, how long should that realistically take for a beginner? How many pads should someone go through?
Sorry for the late reply, but as a general rule of thumb, the pad will dictate when it is ready to be changed. I typically polish one panel, check my pad for any build up or residue (depending on cutting vs polishing) and change/clean the pad if necessary. I always keep a distilled water spray bottle next to me when a polisher is in my hands. Lots of times, the polish/compound will just need re activated. Polish a few passes, stop momentarily, check your pad, spritz with water if necessary, and it has a tendency to re juvinate any dried polish/ compound in the pad.
Speed will all be dependant upon several factors. Are you in sun or shade? What type of polisher are you using? Are you cutting or polishing? Is it a single step? How many steps are you going to skip? IPA wipe, strip wash, clay bar, etc..
All are necessary evils but all depends on how much time you want to invest and results you are after. Good luck 👍
Great video Josh!! Appreciate the explanation and steps shown. You did a great job on it. Keep up the good work detailing and making these informative videos!!
I'm catching up on some of your old videos. You are one of the YT detailers who provide the best explanations on detailing. I started out with a P/C 7424XP and Meguiar's products 15 years ago.
Great explanation , turned out great. Thanks Josh!
Man you’re honestly the best automotive detail channel real world shit
Wow thank you
Nice video! I find your channel very informative and helpful, thanks mane✌️
thank you Josh. You explained the basics to a beginner and I am now ready to hit it running.
Love the explanation! Made it easy to understand
Great to hear!
Great video for the diyer, nicely done DR. Josh 😁👍
Great video and exactly what I needed to see. Will be trying this soon on my car. I plan to do some clay as well.
Great informative video! The car turned out really nice as well.
Thanks Josh. Much appreciated,
Thank you! I appreciate this knowledge you share with us.
Excellent video, thank you so much for taking the time to explain and video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really appreciate you sharing your experiences
Another great video..... been binge watching quite a few of your videos. Great explanation and very beneficial. As a consumer, I would love to see a end-to-end video of steps to wash/detail/polish in preparation for ceramic/graphene coating. What should be done and what shouldn't be done along with good products to use for each and not to use. I know it's a lot but trying to piece together each step from multiple videos is also confusing..... at least for me just getting started.
That looks sweet...I'm kinda just getting into it...great video...thanks so much...
GREAT JOB JOSH, I KNOW THE OWNER WILL BE HAPPY!! LOOKS GOOD BRO GREAT TIPS.
Thanks 👍
Hey Josh, I like seeing these kinds of videos as well! I know it can be hard and be home consuming trying to cover so much. We appreciate you sir!
Agreed .. thanks Josh
People need to know about many of the "correction" products that have fillers. So many people will do a cut n polish with a line that has such fillers and carriers that remain after a polish that's not truly polished. Always do an IPA wipe after a polish to ensure the fillers are removed and to ensure you know whether or not you've truly polished the finish. That's why a person can get a "detail" and 2-3 washes down the road, those fillers are washed away and Bam! There's the marks that weren't polished out. I stick with a killer, water based product Ceram-X from CSI that just doesn't mess with fillers. Some situations like you mentioned might benefit from them, but the reality is fillers cover up a 💩 polish job too.
Wow that's a hell of a value on that DA. I remember looking them up on youtube a while ago and people were saying you had to spend $150+ to get a good one
Crazy good deal! Full kit for under $80 if you use the code imjoshv15
IMJOSHV - Car Detailing and Reconditioning Tips is that a limited time deal or can I wait to order
That was an awesome improvement for a one-step correction. Nicely done.
Yes! Thank you!
Thanks so much for all your tips and advice God bless
Great stuff bud 🤙🏽
Thanks 👍
Good job josh
THIS GUY IS THE GOAT!!!
I have an F-Type I drive on the weekends, and am liking the XJL more and more each day.
Another great and informative video. Glad I found your channel mate. Thank you. Quick question, which I’m hoping you’ll see: How long do the fillers last in that type of polish. Would it look that good for say another 6 months, or will some of it start to lift out the next time you go over it with a pressure washer?
Great vids. Really good job on the 1 stage paint correction. Question. Did the parts under the door handles need correction and if so how did you do that. Cheers.
My cars paint is going to clean up so good ! It's got flakes in it but you can barely tell from all the scratches from car washes !! Started to wash my own car and working on a DA polisher !!
Excellent work…
Thank you!
Man that looked great.
thanks
Love the video and explanation. I am looking to go mobile and paint enhancement does make more sense than a full paint correction. I am currently using Menzerna 3 in 1 on my car. I just hope it won't turn ppl away because it has fillers in it.
very helpful video. on a one step correction like that is the 3d speed the last thing you use on the car, or is there a wax or sealant used?
Nice video! Looks hella good with that one polish, what’s the difference between the speed and 3d one?
Absolutely fantastic I've been detailing strictly interior for the last year-and-a-half I always get asked if I know how to do this type of work I'm thinking about getting into it have never done it what would you recommend for somebody new getting into the exterior?
Josh love your vids. Just starting out. Do you always have to claybar before polishing? Thanks
Andrew
Thank you so much josh your videos have helped me incredible to make my own bussiness! I owe you! One question, I’m a mobile, do I need a shop to do polish?
I recently found your channel and really enjoy your content. You make the process easy to understand.
On this video, do you wax after you finish polishing? I’ve heard you are supposed to wash the car after polish and then wax. Curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks
Thanks for this video. I am a new subscriber. I plan on doing a 1 step enhancement like this on my car. Do you think I could use the Rupes blue high performance cutting pads for the entire job, or is it too course?
Exelent job as always Josh I know is been 2 years from this video but I am new to this and I am watching most of your videos ,actually were just minutes away because I am TJ, one question hope you can help if I use the 3d speed to one of my cars I don’t need to put like a sealer or other protection like bead it up from 3d or poxy ,thanks and kind regards
Great info video. DO you ever measure the thickness of the paint & clearcoat? WIth this being a older car you don't know the history if it has been worked on before and how much clearcoat is left.
Think anyone should invest in a paint gauge before even considering correction
Thanks for the vid! Is a one-step like this sufficient to apply a ceramic coating on top of?
Man!! Talk about a mirror finish👍
Thank you for this and all your informative videos. Can the 3D speed be applied by hand? If so can you recommend an applicator? I'm only working on a small portion of the car.
Do you think you could do a video of when to use a compound vs. polishes and which ones to use along with the pads to use? I typically use the white and yellow rupes pads with meguiars 110 and 210 but I’m curious on how you determine what you’re going to use or when a compound and a cutting pad is necessary. Thank you!
First of all you do a great job on your video's! I've never polished or have done any paint correction. I'm looking at getting into detailing on the side. Do you know of any good training schools to get a more in depth knowledge of it?
Excellent Josh! How many pads would you recommend having on hand to do a similar car for a diyer without an air compressor? Thanks. Also I used to live in Pt. Loma 1971 thru 1976. Go University high school fighting Dons!
Aprox, how long on that job?
Ordered one of the MaxShine buffer kits, thanks for the discount code, also subscribed.
Wow 👌
Thank you for another awesome and educational video, how long did it take you to do the whole car?
it was only about an hour and a half!
Very great video, polishing is something that I haven't done before but want to try soon! Do you have any tips or tricks on what to do around chrome / plastic trim? Do you tape off the area or just try and steer clear? I'd imagine they don't take too well to polish.
Yes sir! You are correct about taping off areas that you don't want to affected by the polish. However, I've only done 2 paint corrections both 2 steps. I recommend just do a lot of research but most importantly don't be intimidated and take your time. Don't use a heavy grit polish or pad. Start out very light then work your way up if you need to. Hope this helps.
I do this for friends and family, how much should I charge. Great video. 👍👍
Question. Do you just start polishing or do you have to rinse the vehicle down first then dry it? Or should you rinse, use a higher ph soap, dry, then polish then wax/clear coat?
thank for your tips. what happens if all you have on hand is a finishing pad to apply compound, will it still work and what if you use a polishing pad for applying wax. Would you get some paint correction while applying wax . Thanks
Hey Josh! My car is in a similar condition. Just asking, Didn't you need to clay bar the surface first, and then polish it?
Thanks. Keep up the good work!
This was great! Thank you!!!
What would 3D one be used for?
3d one is more of a compund/polish. You can get our deeper defects and it has no fillers. If i did the 3d one first then followed with speed, the result would have been even better
How do u do the parts of the car where it curves sharply and is at an angle? Also, what about the panel that’s right above the window(not the roof), that little skinny section. I’m sure that pad u where using is too big and you switched out to a smaller pad?
Nice Jag. But once this is done how do we keep from scratching it while washing it? The proper washing method to prevent micro scratches.
FKN AWESOME!!!!! WoW
I may have missed it but what did you finish with?...sealant - wax? Btw nice work 👏
I know this is an old video but under the products you linked you have the 3d compound did you use that as well or just the 3d speed shine?
Hey Josh how many readings measurements do you take on a panel.
Josh, have you used VSS from Chemical Guys? What was your opinion? Thanks
No clay bar or anything beforehand? Would it make a significant difference to take the time to do so first?
My isn’t quite that bad but I just wonder how to tell how thick my clear coat is now so I don’t burn through it (since I am the 3rd owner and I don’t know if the previous owners ever polished it). Is there a good way to tell?
So what about paint that has clear mixed in? Like Toyotas super white? How would you polish that?
How long will the protection last with that AIO 3D Speed?
Do you have to iron decon and clay before polishing?
Do you ever use Sonax Perfect Finish for an enhancement job?
Do you wax it after you polish it?
Wow! What an awesome improvement. As always very useful information. Keep up with the great job Josh 👍. Just one question. What is the best way to remove water spots from the windshield. Thx
There are a few water spot removal chemicals you can use. You can also just polish them away if theyre not too bad
? Are you using a damp cloth to remove the first layer of polish or does it matter?
Is the polishing kit still available ??
How much did you charge on something like this? I noticed on your website it included in one of your packages one step
What’s the difference between the all in one & the all in one speed?
What did you charge to do this paint enhancement?
QUESTION : If car has a lot of scratches and some are quite deep so you need to paint them..but you also are planning to do full paint correction.. should we:
1. We first sort those deep scratches (preparation, sanding, painting, polishing), then do the full paint correction of whole car...
2. We do painting of deep scratches mid way of full paint correction... (after wash...iron and tar decontamination and clay bar decontamination)
3. We do all the steps of paint correction and before applying ceramic coating we focus on sorting those big deep scratches
How long is the protection on this 3D speed ?
Did you wipe it with anything to remove any potential contaminants? I thought you were supposed to use a clay product before polishing so you don’t dislodge anything and scratch worse.
Does the compound and polish get erased when it got wet from the rain? or do I have to re-apply it often? this is the first time that i got a car, and i wanted to bring it back to its shine since it is already a used car.
Compound is to smoothen the jagged clearcoat, and polish is to make it gloss all around,so after those 2 if you do it correctly you dont need to worry about rain..after polish wipe it of with ipa to make sure no polish residue then do some waxing, polymer sealant or ceramic coating to protect your car from the weather & have high gloss shine, water beading & sheathing.
How many times we can do pint correction ?
How much time does a 1 step take to complete?
I need a solid 3inch polisher
How much would you charge on a sedan for this type of service ?
How long did it take to do his car?
You wanna use a cutting pad with speed right? not a polishing one
It's now 2023 but what should one expect to pay for paint correction vs paint enhancement if done by a person of your skill level?
What’s a good cost to a a vehicle that size??
About how much did that customer end up paying if you don't mind me asking? Any advice on finding someone local who performs services like this? All the commercial places don't take attention to detail, it's just how quick they can get it done...
I forgot to ask, is HD speed something you would recommend using prior to applying a ceramic coat? Or, would the fillers or wax or whatever need to be removed before applying a ceramic coat?
What do you used before a ceramic coat?
Not before ceramic. When you do the final wipe before applying ceramic it would pull out some of the fillers. So to prep for ceramic you’d want to use a true polish with no fillers
@@imjoshv I appreciate the knowledge.
You could use 3D One instead of Speed
No wax or protectant afterwards? Did you clay bar it before?
Hey Anthony
I used 3d speed which actually has protection in it! This is a quick 1 step option.
"Sorry the sun's right in my face" now if only you had something that could help you with this problem of yours 😁😁😁😁
Form over function brah
What product would you use for paint correction on this vehicle?
Got a love automatic car wash lol
Did you clay the car before u polish it
This sounds like what is done to hair, your hair looks dry and dull a glaze is placed on the hair as sort of a filler to make it appear healthier and shiny.
Hey Josh would you ever buy a gas powered pressure washer for detailing cars?
hey, I'm not josh but I own a mobile detailing company and I wouldn't. you can use an electric pressure washer and get the same results with less weight and not having to worry about gas, especially the prices they are nowadays. your choice though.
Many professional detail trailers/skid mounts come with gas pressure washers… when I first started that’s what came in the trailer I got. But now there are so many good electric ones that’s what I prefer, but a gas one will definitely work. They are typically higher powered so try to lower your psi by adjusting your tips or just don’t get too close to the car
Thanks for the info. Just like almost everything else in life there are so many ways to look at things and we as people sometimes make them way to confusing lol Thanks again for your input. Thanks for all the awesome videos. Always great info.
What do you use for the windshield/window?
I actually dont use any special glass products. Just water and a microfiber towel
@@imjoshv what micro fiber towel do you use?
