Two of the nicest blokes in metal. Ray, a phenomenal drummer, very fluid, and Charlie, my drumming hero and he's got solid chops. These guys are another two vertebrae in the heavy metal backbone!
I played with ray about 60 times in the middle 90`s when I was at GIT. He was effing awesome even then. When I saw he was playing with Korn I damn near fell out of my chair. Props to both of these guys.
It's really cool to have Ray out there in the music world and being from Pittsburgh. I live in Pittsburgh and first saw Ray with Army of Anyone at Rex Theatre! Can't wait to see him with Korn at Fort Rock in Ft. Myers on April 26th! Keep up the great work Ray and be safe out there on the Road!
I love Ray and follow everything he does. Anthrax never really caught my ear but I knew beyond a shadow of doubt they were real deal, just not my cup of tea. I have really started paying more attention to Charlie though. Great guy, seasoned drummer.
i love that he said.. im a guitar player trapped in a drummers body.. cause thats exactly how i feel. its so much easier to write music on guitar.. of course you can play a bunch of beats for 10 minutes and think you wrote something.. but to actually add melody and play guitar and know what you are gonna do drum wise.. is amazing!! thanks charlie for saying that
Two of my heroes right here. Man, I would be like a little kid if I was there. Ray is so dynamic and creative, and Charlie is so freaking fast, and a paragon of precision
Love both of these guys, lots of character. I remember hearing Ray first time with Army of Anyone, his solo at the end of Goodbye. I was a fan right there. Charlie has done a great job all of these years with Anthrax, what else can you say? He's just killed it for a long time.
I love Charlie! Ray is new to me but I've heard him 3 or 4 times talking about drumming and I Fuckin love Korn! He seems to be awesome and I like him a lot!
THIS IS MY FIRST TIME EVER HEARING RAY LUZIER SPEAK AND FINDING OUT HE'S 45 YRS OLD I ALWAYS THOUGHT HE WAS SOME WHERE IN HIS EARLY TO MID TWENTIES WHAT A BIG SURPRISE
I love listening to them talk about highschool band lol I'm in 10th grade right now and I play upright bass, I play drums and guitar aswell and love heavy music but I also really enjoy playing a variety of jazz.
At 4:20 he relays an anecdote and says he was "a huge fan of Charlie's" to Charlie as if he's speaking in the third person as if he forgot who he was talking to. That's fucking funny.
Dude. I Soooo wanna see all these part 2z... lol I am so loving these videos man-!!! where's all the part 2 ?? keep posting these types of shows.. METAL !!!
Both are influential beyond belief. I love that Charlie, Mike Portnoy etc... always are referencing Tommy Lee because he influenced so many drummers when Mtv began and his style made drummers seem cool with his twirls and his stick tricks etc. Drummers that can easily play 4/4 and Tommy's beats in their sleep, still respect him and love his style and give him his respect.
That would be awesome. I grew up with Smashing Pumpkins as a kid and I'm still blown away by Jimmy's drumming. Danny Carey is amazing. Proud to share my name with the guy!
Funny what Charlie says about being a guitar player trapped in a drummers body. I play guitar and always wrote riffs in bands I was in but I hear the drums before I hear the guitar. I am in my late 40's and said screw it I want to learn drums so in Feb. I started. I suck but I really enjoy playing drums and hope I can get good at them.
danceofeternity3824 mike is one of my favorites, but i couldn't ever get into dream theater......i always would dig into the riffs but could never handle more than a song.....mike needed to get some straight metal/punk rooted guy's and go at it
Charlie is right. It is always the older siblings. My brother is the reason I started listening to metal. He introduced me to Anthrax and Charlie took it from there lol
Vince Neil's drummer has a lot of the flash they were talking about, I've never seen anyone as flashy a player until I saw Zoltan Chaney live. He does stuff I've never seen before, that's what makes him fun to watch.
fieldys got his own style..as oppose to all others..now i aint biggin fieldy up because both of them suck along with all others compared to les claypool
Dude Alex Webster is the Les Claypool of death metal the guy knows his instrument backwards and forwards. I’m not trying to slam on another musician but I think if you let Fieldy try to play a Cannibal Corpse song I not so sure he could do it at least not without some practice.
Ray is too good a drummer to be wasting his time with those hacks in Korn, unless of course he's getting a huge paycheck for his efforts, in which case he's probably looking the other way. As for Charlie, I wish there were more videos on youtube of him playing guitar, because I heard he can really hold is own on rhythm and lead.
"Yep"
-Ray Luzier
MegaThrasher95 true
Tyler Smash yeah, right right, yep
Where can I put my "laugh" reaction? 😂... this coment is very funny!
like for a moment a thought I was listening to Beavis and ButtHead

Listening to Charlie play, I can hear a guitar riff in my head, that makes a lot of sense when he said, “I’m a guitarist trapped in a drummers body”
Two killer drummers in one room having a great conversation. We need more!!!
David Lee Roth impression-awesome
It's really cool to have Ray out there in the music world and being from Pittsburgh. I live in Pittsburgh and first saw Ray with Army of Anyone at Rex Theatre! Can't wait to see him with Korn at Fort Rock in Ft. Myers on April 26th! Keep up the great work Ray and be safe out there on the Road!

It's so cool to hear how they adapted being a drummer from their experiences
Both are such cool dudes.
i love that he said.. im a guitar player trapped in a drummers body.. cause thats exactly how i feel. its so much easier to write music on guitar.. of course you can play a bunch of beats for 10 minutes and think you wrote something.. but to actually add melody and play guitar and know what you are gonna do drum wise.. is amazing!! thanks charlie for saying that
Love Ray's Roth impression. Spot on
lol. I love Ray's David Lee Roth impressions.
Two of my heroes right here. Man, I would be like a little kid if I was there. Ray is so dynamic and creative, and Charlie is so freaking fast, and a paragon of precision
This is awesome! I wish there were a lot more of this series. I love both of these guys. Anthrax and Korn rock!
This is awesome. I love Korn and Anthrax is probably my favorite. I love Charlie's drumming, and Ray is really good too. Great video!
Some great guys there!
And that’s some serious talent sitting in one room.
Bless you guys….
Fascinating stuff from these two very respectful and awesome guys. Rock!!
This was so good, on a soul and chemical level...
Love both of these guys, lots of character. I remember hearing Ray first time with Army of Anyone, his solo at the end of Goodbye. I was a fan right there. Charlie has done a great job all of these years with Anthrax, what else can you say? He's just killed it for a long time.
Charlie is the best thrash drummer ever.🤘🏼
this was suprisingly entertaining.. these two actually have good chemistry kinda, and being a drummer, i can relate to everything they're on about
Charlie's a great guitar player/writer. He wrote most of Anthrax and SOD stuff
Why didn't this video mention that Ray was also in Army of Anyone? A great super group!!
The first time I heard Among The Living I was hooked. It changed my life. I only bought the vinyl because of the homage to Stephen King's The Stand.
I love Charlie! Ray is new to me but I've heard him 3 or 4 times talking about drumming and I Fuckin love Korn! He seems to be awesome and I like him a lot!

LOL! Ray's impersonation of Roth is hilarious.
Fuse, this is fuckin AWESOME!! You are on the right track, plz keep doing the excellent work ! peace from Morocco
Les Claypool and Geddy lee
That would make me moist
I would break down into tears if this happened.
Please make this happen, Fuse.
Yes please, especially now
I saw primus open for rush around ‘92 on the roll the bones tour, i was 14-15....
How about Les and Flea?
My right hand gets a lot of use - charlie benante
I thought that too hahaha
Masturbing to killing myself, blasphemer!, blasphemer, BLASPHEMAAAAAA JAJAJAJAJAJ
Ray's a pretty cool dude, great DLR impersonation.
For every two of you there are 1,000 of us...You both are super cool and I wish I could do what you do. Good job..Blizzard of OZ..and Ted
this was great, looking forward to more!
these guys are awesome!
At 4:20 he relays an anecdote and says he was "a huge fan of Charlie's" to Charlie as if he's speaking in the third person as if he forgot who he was talking to. That's fucking funny.
Charlie rips and Korn is lucky to have Ray on drums he is a monster!!!
Awesome! More please.
Feel like ray was describing Phil Rudd from acdc when he was talking about a drummer that looked bored hahaha
Charlie: 'The doctor had a hard time pulling me out "cause I wouldn't let go of the drum sticks.' 🤘
Those two have great chemistry.
Dude. I Soooo wanna see all these part 2z... lol I am so loving these videos man-!!! where's all the part 2 ?? keep posting these types of shows.. METAL !!!
look in the description :)
Oh... lol my bad lol thank you
You can watch Part 2 here:
Korn's Ray Luzier & Anthrax's Charlie Benante (Part 2) | Metalhead To Head
ua-cam.com/video/dGRIZwsrglM/v-deo.html
Dude an episode with Tommy Lee and Lars Ulrich would be great
either that's a really funny joke or we're on very different pages
Lol
Both are influential beyond belief. I love that Charlie, Mike Portnoy etc... always are referencing Tommy Lee because he influenced so many drummers when Mtv began and his style made drummers seem cool with his twirls and his stick tricks etc. Drummers that can easily play 4/4 and Tommy's beats in their sleep, still respect him and love his style and give him his respect.
Next one should be Dan Carey Tool and Jimmy Chamberlain Smashing Pumpkins
That would be awesome. I grew up with Smashing Pumpkins as a kid and I'm still blown away by Jimmy's drumming. Danny Carey is amazing. Proud to share my name with the guy!
You ain't lying.
Am I the only person who noticed Charlie's Lorde T-Shirt? hahahahaha
Joshua Goonetileke I was kinda hoping it was a Kansas City shirt lol
DaddyO's Ink same!
cool dudes, nice vid..awesome...2 of ma fav bands
ray is such a cool cat
Funny what Charlie says about being a guitar player trapped in a drummers body. I play guitar and always wrote riffs in bands I was in but I hear the drums before I hear the guitar. I am in my late 40's and said screw it I want to learn drums so in Feb. I started. I suck but I really enjoy playing drums and hope I can get good at them.
Awesome interview!! Two cool drummers! David Curtis
Fuse Can you guys do a Mike Portnoy & Mike Mangini Metalhead to Head?
lol!
danceofeternity3824 mike is one of my favorites, but i couldn't ever get into dream theater......i always would dig into the riffs but could never handle more than a song.....mike needed to get some straight metal/punk rooted guy's and go at it
Imagine not listening S.O.D as one of Charlie’s bands
Charlie is right. It is always the older siblings. My brother is the reason I started listening to metal. He introduced me to Anthrax and Charlie took it from there lol
this is so awesome. im having giggles
Good Rapport. Liked this vid a lot.
Wonder if Benante related to Vinnie on that chopper show? just noticed the resemblance!
great video
Charlie is one of the best ever
where's part 2 ...
Vince Neil's drummer has a lot of the flash they were talking about, I've never seen anyone as flashy a player until I saw Zoltan Chaney live. He does stuff I've never seen before, that's what makes him fun to watch.
Charlie looks like Spanish footballer David Villa
interesting chat.. sorry my english not to good
Charlie benante Fucking A first guy ever to hit 230bpm on the double bass and Ray luzier one of the best groovers in music today...
If it's head to head, shouldn't it have been Brian?
“Yep.” - Ray Luzier
Am I the only one who noticed where Charlie placed his drumsticks?
Fieldy and Alex webster. Just to see how someone who hardly plays bass stands up to a bass master.
fieldys got his own style..as oppose to all others..now i aint biggin fieldy up because both of them suck along with all others compared to les claypool
You're propping a bass master versus someone who entirely relies on his own technique lol
I get what you're saying but Fieldy can actually play. However, Alex Webster is a peer of Cliff Burton.
Dude Alex Webster is the Les Claypool of death metal the guy knows his instrument backwards and forwards. I’m not trying to slam on another musician but I think if you let Fieldy try to play a Cannibal Corpse song I not so sure he could do it at least not without some practice.
Trendkill213 “not without Practice” are you stupid ? It’s not like that’s his band, of course he’d have to practice it first.
Coffee guys. Keeping the head straight :)
ryan martinie and fieldy
and on that day a bromance was formed
“Yep...yeah...yep” Ray sounds like the “yep yep” muppets.
KXM...🤘
We got smoke machine now?
Charlie Benante !!!!!!!!!
Ray always looks like he's had a cheeky key in the toilets.
Next drummer head to head should be Carmine Appice with Joey Jordison.
Jay Weinberg and Joey Jordison
RIP JOEY
That bored look:
Charlie Watts
I air drummed fr the better part of 2 years and then I got a kit
Ray sounds like he isn’t interested in the first 40. Seconds lmao
My favourite part is when Ray said “yep”.
311’s p-nut and Limp Bizkit’s Sam Rivers
Genius'
7:03 funny as fuck.
Marco Minneman & Tommy Lee Or Tommy Lee And Charlie Benante
+TheWarDog11 Portnoy vs. Benante that will be a great battle
Barry Dompor Holy Crap, that would be amazing
Lol “you can steal our records”
Get Steve Vai and Devin Townsend together!
16mins straight and neither guy touches the practice pad.
4:59
Charlie just kicks Ray ass lol
Ray reminds me of Roddy piper sorta
Ray looks like Johnny Depp
I was thinking a little Jermey renner
More like the geek kid in road trip
MetalLover no he doesnt
Seems like Ray is scared of Charlie,lol... "yep, yep, yep, yep"
this tinny mustache >_>
Ray is too good a drummer to be wasting his time with those hacks in Korn, unless of course he's getting a huge paycheck for his efforts, in which case he's probably looking the other way. +6672rock He is worth like 150+ million
ray is like a white eric andre
Ray's talents are absolutely wasted in Korn.
Bullshit. It’s the best drumming he’s ever done
AarosConcerts not saying it isn’t, I’m just not a Korn fan.
haha seriously
You lower your drums? That's because you can't play em right. Circular and flowing. Come on man! Chicago
Ray seems cool. Too bad he drums for Korn.
Best decision of his career
Drummers all seem to age well.
