Frank Bello is a NATURAL at this. He NEEDS to do interviews. Just like this. He asks all the right questions from a musicians perspective, flawlessly. He's MADE for this.

I concur...met Frank at a clinic in ATL 2 yrs ago... his rapport with people, and how he interacts with them is classic. He should interview people all the time, or for that matter write for music magazines!

Everybody that's giving Rudy flack...he never once says that he created the bass lines in Ozzy's band.
He talks about learning the bass lines...not creating the bass lines.
Rudy is a good bass player and a class act.

Frankie is a better player on bass. But they're both great inspiring people. Thats my opinion.
I don't think Rudy sucks or anything. He don't. But Frankie is just a better and more aggressive player. And they both know it here.

I saw a lot of Metalhead to Head Episodes where the two protagonists just had a bad chemistry and it created some kind of vicarious embarrassment watching them pretending to be nice and interested. But these two guys here fit together really good. It was fun. Good mood.

Frank is dead on about his clinics. I'm a guitarist, not a bassist, but I like Anthrax so I went to one he did at Sam Ash in Edison, NJ. First off, he's pretty much the nicest fuckin' guy around(that's how we talk around this area. Adding a "fuckin'" in the middle of saying how nice a person is means a lot.) So he gets on stage and he jammed on a few Anthrax songs, talked about how he never uses a pick except for the intro to Got the Time, but he spent more time going "this is why I wanted to play this part." He played some song off of Spreading the Disease which I don't remember the name of because I've never owned that album and before he played along he said "ok, there's three bassists that I was trying to emulate. Geezer Butler, Geddy Lee," and some third one I don't remember. And he told us all about which part was which, then walked around and personally gave everybody a t-shirt for whatever Zoom product was new at the time and signed everyone's poster. Then got back on stage and jammed with anyone who would go until the manager literally stopped him. The highlight was this little kid, maybe 7 or 8, who wanted to play drums to Raining Blood by Slayer. He played like you would imagine a 7 year old would, but Frankie was trying his best to jam along with him and really make it a moment. Seriously, the nicest "big" musician I've ever met. Frankie is awesome, people.

Well, I was kinda drinking and typing while he was talking so I missed that part. So there. I figured it would be a guy from the generation before Harris, like Geezer and Geddy.
And I'm totally not Frank Bello, if that's what you're implying. I'll take his bank account and gigs though.

In high school I wrote for the for the news paper. I wrote many articles and stories, but my main contribution was always an article on heavy metal bands, either a live review or on an album. I got this crazy idea to interview a band, and had just bought Quiet Riot's Metal Health. I asked my teacher if I could use the school phones to set up an interview, he laughed and said I would fail, it was challenge accepted at that point. I called the label in New York, they directed me to another location in LA, I called there and after several more calls, I had it set up, an interview with Quiet Riot in Salinas California. Meeting all of them back stage was overwhelming. I recall Rudy Sarzo was so different backstage, quiet, and drained by his show. Frankie Banali who was a ball of energy, was drinking from a Coors Light can, and Rudy asked if he could have some. Frankie grinned and handed him the can. Rudy tipped the can, his face turned red and he nearly spit out what he eventually swallowed. He turned to Frankie and asked "What's in this?" Frankie grinning said "JD Light" having snaked the opening act's JD and poured it into the empty beer can. Rudy was gracious as was the whole band to a high school kid who managed to get an interview. I was and am a fan of his playing, but because of that night, I truly respect him as a person. Great interaction on this, thanks for bringing back such a great memory.

After being someone who has enjoyed Frank and Rudy's performances for 30+ years it"s nice to see the two of them hang together while being relaxed and interested in what each other has too say.
It's awesome to see people that I grew up as a fan of and listen to them interact and how they carry themselves in the real world as apposed to whatever perceived image that I developed of such people while growing up in an age when magazines pictorials, music videos and live shows were all I had to go by.

Love that Peavey Rudy Sarzo bass. I remember one in my local music store, hanging from the ceiling and expensive as heck for a 15 year old kid. No one purchased it because some idiot dropped it when taking it from the ceiling rack, and had this serious bump near the lower strap button (it fell on its butt). Every time I went there I lusted for it. For almost 6 years it stood there, no one wanted it, and when I was 21 I saved enough (working during vacations) to get it. I went to the store, damn bass was not on the rack, and when I asked, salesman says "Ah, a young kid took it last week"...

Frank Bello. Killer bass player. Dudes on this comment thread claiming he shouldn't be up there with Rudy are perceptualy impaired . Anthrax didnt have hits, they were more like Maiden or Mercyful Fate or ... you know what I mean, big colorful catalogue with a fan base that stretches back a couple of decades, but not on the cover of the magazine. Monster rhythm section, He and his uncle Charlie have been likened to being the Fleetwood Mac of heavy metal, tighter than a #@%@. I am always happy to see shows that feature Frank, if you have not heard him please pick an Anthrax song and listen.

Ed Tee So fucking what? What did Ozzy ever wrote? In Sabbath Gezzer wrote all the songs that became hits, and every song that became hits on Ozzy's solo band not one was written by Ozzy and thats a Fact!

i dont think Rudy should of bothered with this interview, if anything Rudy should interview cool people like Ashely Reeve etc, this NY bass bum is not anywhere near Rudy's caliber.

Why doesn't Rudy mention BOB DAISLEY who wrote Blizzard of ozz and played all the bass on it and Diary of a madman? He admits he couldn't play it like the record but won't admit it was Bob's playing he can't reproduce. What's up Rudy, are you jealous that Bob is a better player, song writer etc? Very poor form. UA-cam Ozzy at saltlake city to watch Bob Daisly with Tommy and Jake E Lee.

He didn't admit he couldn't play like him. he said he couldn't reproduce the bass lines note for note because he was playing with a different drummer who was playing it a little different and he had to alter the lines to lock in tight with the drummer. Daisley is bad ass. Rudy is right there with him. One of the best in the business. Daisly played with a pick which made it easier to hit some very fast triplets and 16th notes that may have been tough with finger style which Rudy primarily does but it wouldn't surprise me if sarzo could do it finger style. He is very very underrated. Lee Kerslake was playing with Ozzy when Daisley recorded those albums so thats what he was referring to. Different drummer which required some slight modifications . Daisley even altered his original bass lines when drummers started changing

All those Amazing bass lines from Ozzy's albums are composed and played by Bob Daisley.. Sad to hear this guy pretend he had something to do with those bass lines..pathetic

Sarzo never said he wrote them. Sarzo played his heart out with Ozzy. Randy wanted him in that band.
